17 Essential Barbecue Restaurants in and Around Boston

"Earlier in 2024, Scott Brothers expanded beyond the confines of their former home at Winter Hill Brewing in Somerville and moved north to Middleton to put down roots there. At their new spot within the Lot on South Main, they’ll continue their barbecue-themed menu and some more, serving brisket and other barbecue classics on weekends." - Valerie Li Stack, Rachel Leah Blumenthal

This food truck is in a lot woth other trucks. Very cool spot. The food was amazing. BBQ sauce was so good. They had 4 or 5 flavors and we all got the sweet sauce. Brisket was so tender and not too fatty. Pulled pork was also very tasty and tender. Slaw was good, had apple slices. Wasn't very wet or saucy though. Was a little drier. Mac and cheese was very good and gooey cheese! Greens were flavorful, not as salty as usual but they were very good.

Wow. Just wow. Around 7pm on Saturday, my wife, daughter, and I stopped by Scott Brothers BBQ at The Lot in Middleton for dinner—and it absolutely blew us away. I wasn't sure what to expect when we first opened our takeout, but holy smokes—the brisket was incredible. Perfectly tender, flavorful, and paired with a sauce that tasted unmistakably homemade. You could taste the molasses, the vinegar, and every carefully balanced element in it. It was next-level. The ribs? Equally amazing. Not overly sweet, just the right amount of glaze and smoke. Even the pickles stood out—we ordered them on the side, and they were phenomenal. My wife is a pickle enthusiast, and she was seriously impressed. Our daughter couldn't stop eating them either. And then there was the mac and cheese, which we initially got for our daughter—but after one bite, I was hooked. You can tell they made a proper roux. This wasn’t your run-of-the-mill mac and cheese; it was creamy, rich, and clearly crafted with care. Everything we had was absolutely top-tier. I genuinely can’t wait to go back and try more. Scott Brothers BBQ has officially made it onto my list of top BBQ spots in Massachusetts. A+++++, highly recommended. Also, shout out to the guy taking our order and explaining some of the menu items to us. Super friendly staff!!! You'll be seeing us again!

Update: the brisket is just as good as (maybe even better than) the pulled pork, if that’s possible! - I hadn’t found great BBQ since moving to New England, but the search is over! The pulled pork sandwich was delicious! Skip the cornbread, it’s not great, but I enjoyed the peach upside down cake. Will definitely be back to try some brisket and sausages!

Wow! Let me tell you, this place is genuinely incredible. I only tried the brisket sandwich (w/slaw, of course). I’ve had great BBQ in Austin, Memphis and other BBQ meccas. The brisket here doesn’t just compare well with those. It blows them away. Truly competition-winning brisket. I found Scott Brothers after I missed an appointment and was wandering around killing time. I definitely need to start missing more appointments. Thanks so much for the excellent food!

This BBQ is LEGIT! I had the brisket sandwich, cole slaw, & potato salad. As a southerner in New England, I'm always looking out for GOOD slaw & potato salad. The potato salad is fantastic! It has the right amount of crunch & flavor. The slaw is vinegar based but doesn't have a strong vinegar flavor, which is good. It pairs nicely w/the brisket & sauce. The apples in the slaw is a great addition to the recipe. I'm typically a creamy slaw aficionado but I'd eat this any day! The pickles tasted great but too spicy for me personally. If you like heat, this is a must! I'd recommend these guys 10/10 for getting your BBQ needs met! I didn't take photos because once I took a bite, I couldn't stop eating!

Some of the best barbecue I've had - the brisket on a roll was moist, tender, and had good smoke flavor. The pickled jalapeños it came with were delicious and the sauce was amazing. Good service, lots of seating available (it was brisk outside), and easy to get to.

Not very good. We had heard good things so went there as we love BBQ we checked it out. This was massively disappointing. The ribs were honestly bad, like straight up not good, they were dry, chewy and didn't fall off the bone and had mediocre flavor. The brisket was better than the ribs, but it wasn't hot (I get BBQ has to be prepared in advanced but the meat shouldn't be served at room temperature) . The sweet sauce is WAY too sweet and the cornbread had an odd flavor can't quite put my finger on. I love BBQ but neither my wife nor I even finish our meals because it was that bad. Overall I would avoid this spot, it's roughly the quality of cheap chain BBQ for a higher price, we spent 89 dollars, including tip. In fairness one of the guys asked how the meal was, I told him and he didn't make excuses and apologized so I guess that's something.

The area is cute, it's a bunch of food trucks with an outdoor dining picnic tables and lights. The food was pretty good. My favorite was the ribs, the sauce was sweet and they provided dipping sauce.
