Every year we come to Dayton for a soccer tournament and one of highlights is Screen Door Cafe. We were in town for 5 days and ate there 3 days ( and only because they were closed one of the days). There isn’t a meal that you won’t love but I got the Fried Green Tomatoes every visit!!! So delicious!!! I also ordered the Chicken Parm, Short Ribs (oh so amazing), and a cheeseburger with bacon and and an egg. The food is so fresh and top notch!!! The staff and owner takes so much pride in their restaurant and food! I also have to say that the staff is so knowledgeable and attentive! We had Brianna the last two days and every time she took our orders (large group) I thought she’s never going to get this right because she doesn’t write anything down. Not only were our orders perfect but her suggestions were spot on!!! She was seriously one of the best waitresses I’ve ever had in my life. I can’t recommend SDK enough!!! I’m missing it already!

Google
Savannah was a great server! She was helpful and kind. The place was super quaint and homey. My husband had the Cajun Chicken Sandwich, which he LOVED and I had the Pumpkin Pecan Cavatappi, which was great but I would try something different next time because so many things caught my eye!

Google
Hidden diamond in Dayton Tn. Food was amazing and our waitress was the best. Chicken and waffles was great. Hubby had meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Meatloaf melted in your mouth and mashed potatoes OMG!!!

Google
Atmosphere was very charming in this classic old home structure. Service was excellent. However, the meatloaf was very average as were the green beans. The fried catfish was very tasty but very thin and we've had much larger portions elsewhere. Fried tomatoes were also very good. Overall, a real nice place.

Google
The food was outstanding and reasonably priced. The BBQ, mashed potatoes, etc. were especially good and the collard greens were the best we've ever had. We splurged and had dessert - chocolate for me and pecan praline pie for my husband. Huge slices (we had to take 75% of them home) and delicious. We'll stop here again the next time we're this way.

Google
Always a stellar experience here. I had the PB&J Burger (Pimento Cheese, Bacon, Jalapeno Jam, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and Dukes Mayo on a soft roll served with General Tso's Brussel Sprouts. And their peanut butter pie? I don't think you'll find anything like it. It's like clouds in your mouth. Made from scratch in-house including the crust! *sorry for the pic of the 1/2 eaten pie, but we forgot to take a pic until halfway through 🙂 And the service? Spot on. This is definitely one experience you don't want to miss if you're anywhere near Dayton, TN.

Google
Hidden gem! I have really high standards for restaurants and wasn't sure what to expect here but I was blown away. The BBQ was excellent, bourbon bacon burger was excellent, collards were some of the best I've ever had, and the Cajun fries actually had enough seasoning on them. Gluten-free options are great! Would definitely eat here again next time I'm in town.

Google
My friend and I had lunch at this quaint Restaurant today. I loved the Fried Green Tomato BLT and french fries. It was very delicious. I was full with half, but I ate it all. Our waitress was very nice and efficient. We had a great time! The next time we pass through this town, I will try the crab cakes.

Yelp
First time here. I must say , this place did not disappoint! French toast was awesome . Coffee in a coffee press. Corned beef hash awesome ! Grits were superb! The service ideas super attentive. This place is an old house turned into a wonderful place to eat ! Go get some!

Yelp
Tried this place while in the area on a work trip and we had a great experience. Staff was attentive and helpful and I could not have asked for more. Our food was good as well and I do wish I would have gotten the catfish I kept eyeing the gentleman's plate at another table but woe is me - maybe next time. The pork sandwich I did get was super tasty and the fries were fantastic. I also really liked their house made ranch. It hit the spot and I highly recommend checking it out.

Yelp
Come here every Sunday for their brunch and I try something new every time I come, and I've yet to have anything I'd not get again. Staff is super nice and very accommodating. Only thing? No decaf coffee

Yelp
I love when restaurants repurpose old places and this house is perfect. Parking is limited, so if you're going with a group highly recommend carpooling. Also, call ahead and get a reservation. Seating is limited and in cooler or rainy weather there really isn't anywhere to wait without being in the way of staff. The food is amazing! We had fried green tomatoes, apple salad and chicken parm. The FGT came with three topped with pimento cheese, plenty big enough to share with multiple people. The salad was massive and paired nicely with the honey dressing. Chicken parm was some of the best I've had in years!! Everything was fresh and came to the table fairly quickly. Finished our meal off with some turtle cheesecake to go. Will definitely be going back.

Yelp
The food and service were excellent!! I had the chicken apple salad, but I substituted a crab cake for an additional $7. The prices are very reasonable, and the food was so good!! I hate to say anything negative about this wonderful place, but my one and only criticism is that the interior could use an overhaul (fresh paint, etc), and the restrooms definitely need a deep clean (possibly a fresh coat of paint). The walls, doors and light switches were visibly filthy. It always makes me question how clean the kitchen is when the restrooms are not clean and obviously haven't been for quite a long time. Those are all that kept it from a 5 star review. But, those things are so easily remedied, and the food is truly excellent!! I had planned to take half of my very large salad home, but I couldn't stop eating it!

Yelp
Huge portions. Ambitious menu with a lot of variety. The small roasted vegetable salad was enough for 2 people as a starter. Highly recommend it. My mom loved her chicken Parmesan and I really enjoyed the meatloaf. I cook with less salt but that is likely just personal preference. We took so much home that it made two more meals for us both. This is partly because we wanted to also have dessert. The peanut butter pie was a new thing for me-I really liked it but can't compare it to others. My mom's cheesecake was "really pretty good, maybe not among the best". You might note that she ate it all! Service was by young very competent people, ambiance is family-operated cool old house. This place lived up to its Yelp reputation and I am very glad we went.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful lunch! The fried Catfish, the salmon, the General Tsao Brussels, and the PEANUT BUTTER PIE were terrific! Savannah, our server was wonderful!

Yelp
Excellent food and even better service. The meal was unique and prepared fresh. Our waitress was very fun and informative

Yelp
We stopped by here on the way to Chattanooga for a wedding. The atmosphere is so calm and definitely feels like a family home. I loved the staff and everyone was so nice. The goat cheese appetizer was absolutely delicious, as were both sandwiches we got. We both also ordered brussel sprouts as a side and they were incredible!

Gloria M.

Yelp
What an awesome menu! So many good sounding things to choose from! We both ended up having the fried green tomatoes blt on grilled sour dough bread. I had the General Tso's Brussels sprouts and my husband had the green beans. Everything was delicious! Our waitress was very friendly and nice to talk to. We will definitely go back!

Yelp
Visited for Sunday brunch and really enjoyed the experience. Located in an older home that has been nicely renovated for the purpose of seating folks and serving them delicious food. We did take advantage of their (very reasonable) $2 per person corkage and enjoyed a bottle with our meal. Extensive menu option, truly something for everyone. Shout out to our great server Gabe!!

Sharon A.

Yelp
The food is just ok. BBQ not good, brussel sprouts were chopped up and burned. My granddaughter got food poisoning on the chicken parmesan and started throwing up when we got home, she was so sick. Our drinks had no ice. The biggest complaint I have is the owner seems very disconnected and not friendly. I saw him a couple times while there and he was just not smiling. The waiter was good and as he was putting our ticket in at the register the owner walked up again. We had around 12 guest for our family christmas and spent a lot. He never spoke never ask how was our meal no communication at all. He did not even appreciate our business or the money we spent . I will not go back again and do NOT recommend this place at all. I can say without a doubt the food and menu is just not good at all. I see good reviews and that surprises me. No competition much in the area is why I guess. The house is old and run down and not even decorated nice. It was not even fixed up for christmas, no pretty decorations. lol the screen door on the front the screen was all ripped and not even used. I really don't know what the hype is about this place . I will not go back and let others know.

Yelp
Imagine this. In a small town, playing little league football, not wanting fast food, and a friend says try this place out. A minute drive from the field and we pull up to a beautiful Victorian style house. We walk in and are immediately greeted with a smile and seated. The restaurant is immaculate and the menu was above and beyond. We started off with soul rolls which was a spring roll filled with BBQ and collards alongside a pimento cheese, bread and pickle app. The best pimento cheese I've ever tasted and both were home made. Two of us got catfish plates, my wife got shrimp linguini, my youngest got a pulled pork sandwich, and I had Mrs. Perrywinkle Cajun chicken sandwich. From start to finish this was an incredible meal. Mac & cheese and homemade potato salad complimented the entrees and the portions were huge. Great food!! This isn't a "next time in town" stop, this is "I'm going to make the trip here just to eat" stop. If you're close, stop in and give it a try.

Yelp
Screen door kitchen is more than just a dining destination; it's a journey back to simpler times, where the freshest ingredients and genuine hospitality reign supreme. Whether it's just an evening for two or a gathering with friends and family, this farmhouse gem is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Yelp
Food was ok; took an hour to make. Thought a small green with my potatoes and chicken would have been nice tho. Have always loved this place. Arrived for an early, hopefully quiet and romantic anniversary dinner only to be seated in the middle of several large families, with loud kids. Couldn't even hear each other. Plenty of room in the other two smaller dining rooms. Added to that was the lack of decent table service (Megan H); we were lucky to get a refill on our drinks. So disappointed. Gotta rethink this place going forward...like supporting local, but not worth the cost.

Yelp
The food here is always amazing. Everything I have had here has been fresh, expertly cooked, and high quality. We like their brunch where they have traditional breakfast fare and some experimental southern inspired dishes, none of them have ever disappointed. The French press coffee is also a must. The service has been consistently good with very nice, attentive staff. Sometimes on busy days the food can take a little while to come out, this wasn't a problem just something good to know if you're in a rush. Ambiance is very rustic. It is set in an old home and has southern charm. It's a little older but they do a good job keeping it clean. There was a pretty significant amount of flies there. While they do have some measures in place to control them there were still a lot. It may have more to do with the time of year than any fault of the restaurant, but that is the only reason why I didn't give them a full 5 stars.

Yelp
Missing item on our order. Waitress said she'd correct it, but never came back. No drink refills. Eggs were cooked wrong (requested over-easy): one was solid yolk. The other egg the whites were still clear and raw on the inside and inedible. Ants crawling on the floor, the chairs behind us had spider webs on them, and in the hall to the bathroom there were multiple spiders on the ceiling. Half of our meal was quite good: my wife said the sausage in the omelet was flavorful although the egg portion wasn't light and fluffy but heavy and dense. My chicken biscuit was quite flavorful and the home fries were tasty and nicely cooked.

Theodore E B.

Yelp
Careful!!! Our waiter ask us if we wanted any sauce for our chicken livers, We said yes, they changed us for a few drops of hot sauce. I paid cash and they charged us extra dollars for credit card. Did not know this until I got home. Our Food was very good, but...

Yelp
I am on my way home from the absolutely delicious experience I just had at Screen Door Kitchen. What an amazing dinner! I couldn't stop saying " this is so good!". From the pimento/pickle and salmon/avocado appetizers, to the beef short rib dinner; everything was 5 star. My husband and daughter loved their dinners too. My husband just kept smiling and nodding his head. . Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your culinary gifts!
google avatar

Kathleen Z.

Yelp
Good ambience. Feels like a Southern home. Iced tea was cold and delicious. I had chicken salad which had great flavor but was way over salted and bread was kind of stale. Cole slaw had great flavor but cabbage was chopped too small. My husband had a burger and he said it was also way over salted. Perhaps we caught the chef in a bad day. I'd try again to give a fair shake.

Ioannis F.

Yelp
By far the best restaurant for lunch in terms of quality in the area. I wish it was open on Mondays and Tuesdays... i eat there every WTF
google avatar

Angie S.

Yelp
The food here is just so delicious! My favorite is the prosciutto linguini. So yum! But really, you can't go wrong with anything from there and I love that they do seasonal menus as well.

Larry R.

Yelp
First time customer today. Fantastic food and atmosphere. Great customer service. I had the chicken livers, my brother-n-law had the waffles and chicken, sister had the fried shrimp and hush puppies. Everything was made to perfection including all the sides.
google avatar

Yelp
We were recommended this restaurant but unfortunately we didn't have a chance to try the food. They were very busy and we were there for a few minutes before being noticed. Instead of a welcome we were asked if we wanted to wait an hour. We sat waiting for a little while but we decided to go elsewhere. We didn't see anyone else waiting around and didn't feel welcomed. It felt like we were a burden because it was more work for the people who worked there.

Marty F.

Yelp
We went for our 31st wedding anniversary today. Food was great. Service was great. But I can't go back. There were flies in the dining room that kept diving into our food. It was not acceptable. A constant bother. Server even joked about shooing them away. I hid my anger over this unsanitary issue. Not a good way to do business. I hate to leave a bad review but it is what it is. They could have dealt with the flies or moved us to a different dining room. Others recommended that we go there. I was let down.
google avatar

Melina G.

Yelp
I really thought I would like this place and it really saddens me that I just didn't. Food was mediocre at best. I got the hot chicken sandwich and it caused me to have the worst night(tmi- threw up and whatnot). We had a variety of appetizers. None were particularly great. Ambience was overtly crowded and the tables were on top of each other. Service was also not the greatest, countless times forgot the things she was supposed to bring and made comments that were not appropriate. Overall, not my cup of tea.

S P.

Yelp
The food tasted pretty good, but was fairly overpriced considering the price after tax, tip, and up charges. $38 for two pulled pork plates is ridiculous with these portion sizes. They do not list all the up-charges that they charged on their menu, and they acknowledged that fact when we brought up our concerns. We had 5 up-charges in total for just getting sides and sauces. At least the waiter was nice. Not coming back though.

Steven O.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant! Pleasant and helpful staff! Interesting menu items. Abundant servings. Juicy chicken. Flavorful dishes. Pleased with this unique fine! We would go back to try some other items. And recommended to friends and family!!!

Ricky B.

Yelp
Cool restaurant in an historic house. Our server Gabe was awesome!!! The food was amazing!! I had the pimento bacon and jalapeño omelette which was soooo good. I'm gonna be honest I love coffee but never had French press. I am such a fan of French press now. Highly recommend anything here!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant in dayton is In a beautiful old house. I don't know the history but there is an old chalkboard and pictures of children from many years ago. Possibly a school at one time. High ceilings and long windows. I ordered the chicken club sandwich and a side of Cajun vegetables. The sandwich wasn't bad but not wow either. This sandwich had bacon, avocado, grilled chicken, onions, and bean sprouts. The Cajun vegetables were too salty for my liking. The tea was spot on. My waitress was very sweet and attentive. Ill probably go back but try something different next time.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
First time! Food was really good! The service was great! So why not 5 stars you ask? The flies! There is a weird smell at the front door attracting flies. Then while we were eating (small room on the left) flies were all around and near the window, kinda gross. We will still come back but hopefully the owners recognize this post and can work on the cleanliness to get rid of those flies.

Wendy G.

Yelp
My husband and I order out at least once a month on the reg.... Everything we have tried so far is amazing!!!

Linda G.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. My husband had salmon with their delicious Brussel sprouts and I had chicken livers. Both were delicious. However, the desserts were not as good as I expected. My chocolate pecan pie was cold -- straight out of the refrigerator and the chocolate cake serving was very small.

Debra G.

Yelp
This visit was disappointing. It was very busy. The servers did a good job will all they had to do. The hostess was not friendly, but not rude. I ordered a Ruben and slaw. We waited as later tables were served, but when our food arrived, it was warm. The sandwich had little kraut and dressing. The corned beef was not very good and the sandwich didn't have the other flavors to help. The slaw was predominantly salt. This was not enjoyable for a $20 meal.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
Basically 100% on service, food was pretty good overall, but gosh the server guy thought he was amusing but super inappropriate. Oh, and he wasn't at all funny either. The next table told us "you have to deal with the service to get the food here" Well I ordered a spicy Nashville hot chicken I asked no Mayo please, he said no substitutions, I said, fine I don't want a substitute I just want no Mayo. He said they can't make it with no Mayo. Then said "you can scrap it off though". Pretty lame right? Well the sandwich comes, and literally it's just an ordinary bun you can buy at the grocery store with squirts of Mayo on it. Clearly they could have not put Mayo on. Well I took my knife and cut out the Mayo and put it in the floor. When our funny guy server came back i said "oh now the Mayo is on the floor, but you can scrap it off" and I emphasized his stupid scrap it off phrase. So, I won't be going back, it was a very douchy experience.

Yelp
I have been hearing about this business on the radio for a while and finally got the opportunity to try it. Very glad I went to the effort. Very eclectic vibe here, great spot for an anniversary or date night in Dayton. I had chicken livers and they were good. Had the club salad and it was almost too much to eat. Very fresh and well prepared. I hope to get the opportunity to go back soon and try other things.

Jamie G.

Yelp
Was asked how I wanted my hamburger cooked. I replied well, well done. The little thing was seared black on the outside, one bite revealed a very pink underdone center. Not safe to consume. Blonde waitress refilled all water glasses except mine. Glasses not placed in front of diners, but all 4 just left on corner of table. Despite generous access behind and between us, waitress chose to to reach over my plate repeatedly to serve companion on my left. She never even asked how we liked our food, or why I left by undercooked burger virtually untouched. This used to be an excellent, upscale place with delicious food called Fehn's, now now a total dive, horrible food and worse service. Attractive historical building restored by previous owners. Nice drive by, just don't go there to eat.
google avatar

Nikki S.

Yelp
This food is amazing! I would never have thought it was a restaurant the building looks like a beautiful Victorian home. A friend of ours in Maryland told us to try this food out and it did not disappoint. If you are ever in the area please check them out!!
google avatar

SK H.

Yelp
Terrible!!! Worst service experience I have ever encountered at any customer facing establishment, restaurant, retail or service related store, you'll find more caring, empathetic employees at a jiffy lube. Would never return, and ownership could careless about customer service, just note they're always right, never the customer.

Richard H.

Yelp
Ordered fried fish with cyan pepper added, hush puppies, Cole slaw and collards. Hushpuppies were burned past recognition, fish was overcooked with no seasoning what so ever and certainly no cyan, collards had turned into a bowl of highly salted green beans and potatoes. Was very disappointed
google avatar

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Loved this Dayton gem! The owner was very personable and accommodating. The atomosphere was charming. The food was amazing! We had a party of nine and everyone's meal was perfect! I had the delicious classic burger cooked perfect and the friend next to me had the meatloaf and let me try it... oh wow it was not your mother's meatloaf so better and the sour cream mashed potatoes, yum!!! Go there even for a road trip, it's worth it!
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
Came for Sunday brunch for the 1st time. Excellent! My wife had the avocado fire omelet. I had the mile high omelet and order a side of French toast and fruit. Everything was very good. The cheese grits -great Their home fries-great

Kim R.

Yelp
I have been here many times and always enjoyed the food and service. But the last three times have been a disappointment from a service standpoint. Went last night and was told there would be a 20 minute wait, after 25 minutes I asked the hostess and was told they lost the list. After we were seated we waited 10 minutes before anyone spoke to us . We ordered our food and was asked if I wanted my salad before the food, I said yes. After 45 more minutes and a few requests for the salad, we got our meals without the salad. I will say the food was very good too bad for the service

Robert M.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal I could come here everyday the food was sooooooooo gooooodddd I got the fried chicken and waffles I know something basic but I've had them before at other places and nothing compares to it our waitress was super sweet she looked like she had a lot of tables but took a lot care of us that's a good worker right there the only thing I would fix is the hostess attitude she didn't seem like she liked her job at all remember clean up after yourself and tip your waiter/waitress

Scratch C.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Tables and chairs with ample space between tables. Easy to find, good parking, warm atmosphere. More like eating in a country home without pretentiousness. Nice overall experience. Fried shrimp and Fried catfish plates. Both well-prepared, plentiful portions, hush puppies real home-style and tasty, french fries were hot and good, the cole slaw was excellent - a mix of mayo and vinegar and fresh, mac and cheese home-style. Nothing about the shrimp, fish, hushpuppies, or fries was the least bit greasy or tasting of old oil. That's a pleasant surprise from many places that serve fried foods. The staff was attentive without being in your face. Prices are less than you'd pay in Chattanooga for better food and a relaxing atmosphere without the typical city rush and loudness. It was well-worth the 30 mile drive on a nice fall day.
google avatar

Deena O.

Yelp
Love this little gem!! The atmosphere is so chill and. cute!!! Old Victorian home!! Great food!! Will definitely be back (multiple times)

Eddie M.

Yelp
Found this place by accident / but it's good. They're only open Wednesday thru Sunday I've had meatloaf and the catfish. Everything I've seen there looks good. Great service as well . This is in an old house with a nostalgic atmosphere. Great restaurant p

Cliff B.

Yelp
Massey, was a hoot!!!! Dressed in his overalls and comical but very polite!!! Coffee press experience was a great touch!!! Wonderful service and food!!! It's a plus they're open on Sunday's.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a friend. So glad we came. Lovely house. Amazing food. Great ambiance and service. We will definitely be back. We ordered a variety of meals and shared and all of them were amazing.
