FOOD
- purple taquitos (7/10): 3 crispy tortilla rolls filled with mashed purple potatoes and topped with chipotle almond sauce and pickled cabbage. We asked to get a 4th since we were sharing between 4 people. It makes a great appetizer as part of a larger meal. The potatoes on their own are not seasoned so most of the flavor comes from the chipotle sauce and cabbage. The sauce tasted similar to a store bought one which is smoky and spicy.
- burnt brussels sprouts (7/10): roasted brussels sprouts tossed in mustard, cayenne, lime, and topped with fried garlic. This is a good dish to share as an appetizer or a side. Our server told us that this was the reason he started working at Seabirds. The brussels sprouts are perfectly roasted with a soft interior and crispy exterior. I recommend eating it as soon as it is served to limit the mustard making the dish soggy.
- beets me burger (6/10): shiitake beet and chia patty topped with grilled onions, pickle, arugula, almond butter sauce sandwiched between a fluffy brioche bun and served with side of salad or fries. For veggie burgers, this was great. It had a smoky and sweet flavor from the patty, a caramelization from the onion, and a sharpness from the arugula. I was hoping for something more based on the menu description, which is why I felt like it was just okay.
- butternut squash enchiladas (6/10): three enchiladas filled with squash, mushroom, and spinach covered in a spicy green sauce and almond feta with a side of black beans. This is a hearty and warming dish great for cold days when you want something cozy. The sauce was the highlight, as it was tangy and spicy yet not overpowering.
- bibimbap bowl (10/10): brown rice, steamed kale, Korean flavored jackfruit, pickled cauliflower, fried kimchi, crushed peanuts, drizzled with gochujang and aji sauce. This was my favorite dish out of the ones we ordered. It had the ideal blend of both textures and flavors with the right amount of spice from the gochujang. I had not seen jackfruit cooked this way but think it worked well. This bowl is a hearty portion for one person but I would gladly finish the entire thing.
WOULD I COME BACK? Yes! All of the dishes were fantastic and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming
