The 24 Best Places For Cheap Sushi In LA

"Seabutter is a modern, subway-tiled sushi bar with a menu offering two distinct sushi experiences. On one hand, you can get some pretty busy-sounding things, like sashimi covered in truffle soy sauce or wagyu sushi topped with uni, or you can take the purist route with simple, lightly dressed nigiri. Order the $40 seven-piece omakase to experience a little bit of both those worlds, including a perfectly torched tuna nigiri and creamy minced yellowtail belly that might’ve been even better. The sashimi platters do tend to come with lots of toppings and sauce, but we don’t mind: the kanpachi yuzu plate with kosho and lime zest was arguably the best thing we tried." - jess basser sanders, brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder

Google
This is a cute and casual Sushi spot in Beverly Hills with the food being 5 stars! Absolutely love their cod hand roll... WOW! They were also super caring and thoughtful about making adjustments to the rolls since I can't have onion/garlic/gluten. They have a special GF menu which was super helpful!! Great service, great food, easy parking post 7pm on a weeknight!! Highly recommend 👌

Google
ordered on doordash 1️⃣classic omakase-Reasonably priced and quite good. The slices were thicker and very fresh, making it great value for the price. I'm satisfied!✅✅ 2️⃣fried tempura-Excellent! The batter was done perfectly—crispy and light.✅✅✅✅ 3️⃣pressed otoro-Felt more Americanized. If you prefer traditional Japanese style, skip this one. The texture was lacking, and it kept sticking to the paper box. 4️⃣dragon roll-The sauce was overly salty, and the rice was too wet and sticky, clumping together unpleasantly. * But I do appreciate the thoughtful note! It felt very considerate—thank you so much!😗😗😊

Google
We did the tasting menu and it was amazing. Every bite was excellent and the fish was incredibly fresh and buttery. Some of the best fish quality I’ve had in LA. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in town.

Google
Hair on a business trip and pull this name out of the hat for sushi tonight, it was close by our hotel. We were the first to arrive approximately 6 PM and received such a warm welcome from the host Astrauex, the sushi chefs and our server. The fish was fresh and tasty, The yellow tail melted in my mouth. They are light on the rice, which is wonderful! You have to try the marilyn monroll! By the time we were done more guests were filtering in.... Don't forget the green tea matcha mochi!

Caragh McKenna

Google
Love the name and it perfectly describes the quality of the sushi....melt in your mouth. Excellent selection too, including non sushi items. The miso cod with mushrooms was delicious but definitely sushi all the way next time.

Google
Decent sushi with different roll options but was expecting a bit more flavor and quality suggestive of the restaurant name for something near Beverly Hills. This restaurant is more of a lunch place not a high dining sushi experience. Most of the dishes are fusion. Pressed sushi is decent but falls apart unlike other restaurants with decent pressed sushi. Aburi style flamed sushi is a standout. I highly suggest not getting the 911 roll - extremely spicy beyond measure. My lips are still burning hot as I write this review.

Google
First time eating at Seabutter and we had an amazing experience. The food and service was exactly what we were looking for. Hip and cozy at the same time. The sushi chefs were a lot of fun. I highly recommend sitting at the bar to have a more interactive experience

Google
I had a wonderful my meal at Seabutter. Quality of the food was excellent and the selection was impressive. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Price point matches the quality and service. A very chill atmosphere with good music!

Yelp
Food is My favorite is the HYE. This is my 2nd time trying Seabutter. First one was in Westlake Village, and then this one. I think this one is better. Not really sure why but my experience here was really good. We sat at the bar and watched the sushi chefs do their thing. Seeing them prep their ingredients by hand (squeezing their lemons and placing the juice in a small bottle for their use later, chopping the peppers with precision), it was all just very impressive! Everyone was also very nice. The servers were attentive and took their time to explain what we got. A little negative experience though was when a group of people came in and one of the staff greeted them loudly from our end of our booth and told the rest of the chefs and servers "can we pretend we're happy to see them?" I think that was cringe and i believe he's also the manager. Sooooo, I'm still gonna give the 5 stars though. Since my own personal experience was pretty good.

Yelp
Great affordable sushi in West Hollywood area. It's not bougie which is great and I can tell they do a lot of takeout orders. We ordered so many items that we needed to do takeaway after for the leftovers. - spicy tuna and salmon crispy rice were really big but that meant we had a hard time to pick up w chopsticks. And we're Asian. - soft shell crab was soooo good - scallop sushi and HYE were heavenly - tuna shishito roll was not bad. 4/5. I like shishito peppers but I think they could've added more ponzu to balance. - crispy albacore roll also could've had more ponzu - hamachi jalapeño again could've used more ponzu as it tasted more gamey. Parking was easy on a Sunday because there's free street parking after 6pm (across the street) and always available. Not including the green meters. Overall I may come back if I'm in the area and need a quick sushi run.

Yelp
Simply incredible sushi! They have some very creative rolls and one of my favorite things here is the pressed sushi. It's amazing. Definitely try the pressed seared toro sushi if you like toro. Amazing mix of flavors and it really does melt in your mouth. It's fabulous. Today I had one of their daily specials, which was the halibut fin sushi, and it was seared warm, savory and delicious with a slice of fresh lemon. I had to order two orders because it was so good. They also make a fantastic blue crab hand roll. The mild sweetness and smooth creaminess of the blue crab contrasts with a slice of fresh crisp cucumber inside the roll. Actually everything I've ever had here is phenomenal and a taste treat. The service is super nice and they have a dining room in back where you can sit or it's fun to take a place at the sushi bar in front to watch the artistry of the chef. If you sign up on their mailing list, you get specials and occasionally a 10% off coupon by email. You can also make reservations here via RESY. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant, and there's metered parking right in front, but it's only for 20 minutes on weekdays. If you don't park in their lot, check the side streets or Doheny Dr. for more parking. Parking in front at the green "20 minute" meters is free all day on Sundays!

Yelp
Nothing but good things to say about Seabutter! There is plenty of table and bar seating inside so the wait is never too long, even during peak meal times. The menu is extensive, so it's easy to find something for everyone in your party. They have some pretty unique rolls/pressed sushi that I haven't seen anywhere else! I usually get the Sizzling Black Cod, Sunset Roll, Salmon Supreme, and Salmon Medley (Salmon, King Salmon, Truffle Salmon). The fish is always fresh and the portions and presentation are consistent. Pro tip: Sign up for their email list for monthly 10% off coupons.

Yelp
Location 4: In the semi-residential, laid-back area of Beverly Hills, CA on Olympic Blvd. Street parking is usually no problem. There are many free parking lots around also according to the business, but I have not used them. Venue 3.5: Nicely decorated medium to small sized venue. Large sushi bar area. Indoor tables and outdoor (literally on the sidewalk) seating. They take reservations, so you will not have to wait long during busy times. Service 3.5: Polite, friendly and helpful but not frequent. Our server was attentive up until the food came but noticeably slowed down afterwards. Our order was taken quickly, and the food came quickly as well. Food 2.5: Nice, large assortment of small Japanese plates, sushi and rolls. Plating and presentations are very nice, and the menu is unique and creative. Pricing is a little above the norm, However, I have been going to Seabutter for a few years now and I am sad to report that the quality of fish is not what it used to be. Everything we ordered this time around not only tasted a little fishy and stale (and this was on a Saturday night) but at the same time lacked flavor and impact. Drinks 3: Smaller assortment of beer, sake, wine, soft drinks and tea. Pricing is a little above the norm. The last word 3: It used to be a treat for me to go there, but sadly not one of my top choices any longer!

Yelp
Sea Butter is the kind of place that lets the food speak for itself. I ordered the Lux medley 10/10. The fish was absolutely otherworldly. My waitress was kind and genuinely attentive a presence that's rare to come by in LA. I'd absolutely recommend.

Yelp
This is an excellent sushi restaurant with excellent service, food and very convenient location. I was seated right away at the table of my choice with very attentive servers and host. I had a nice assortment of fish tempura(outstanding), sushi nigiri(excellent eel), rainbow roll and last but not least, garlic edamame(healthy and delicious). The ambience has a nice upscale, yet relaxed flavor with nice decor and on the quiet side which I like. The location is great just on the other side of Starbucks(I also liked they did not hassle me about bringing in and drinking from my Starbucks cup)on the north side of Olympic and west side of doheny intersection. There's cameras there(at the intersection) so don't speed folks and respect cyclists and pedestrians. Highly recommended making my top 10 LA metro sushi list.

Yelp
I would give 1000 stars to this place. Funny enough even living in LA I STRUGGLE to find good sushi. Something that not your average "Cali roll" or copy and paste menu from down the street. This place has it all. Tucked away off of Olympic this restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere, low lighting and wonderful seating would recommend the bar for a laid back time and the dining for more of an intimate experience. Every time I go I have my absolute go to's and then always try to get something new The miso soup is absolutely wonderful and the best way to start in my opinion, for something so "basic" this place has the best miso I think I've ever had... warms even the darkest corners of my soul. I am a sushi lover but really enjoy a good sashimi, and maybe a roll or two, Go to sushi: ALWAYS the uni-toro... idk how they do it but year round this uni is some of the freshest most delicious I've ever had... paired with the flavor of the toro is beyond words. 100/10 The yellow fin hamachi is also an absolute delight, the sweat spice combination and the tenderness of the fresh fish is the perfect combination, if paying wasn't an issue I would eat them out of yellow fin, The blue crab roll is a bit of an acquired taste essentially if you are used to the imitation crab taste. For me I LOVE crab so this is a definite order for any crab lovers. Service is always really really good if anything it gets a little shaking and the timing of stuff being released gets a little thrown off when they are busy but overall a great experience. I will be frequently visiting Seabutter.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for date night for the first time and we really enjoyed the sushi. The sushi was fresh. Our waiter was really attentive and helpful.

Yelp
Came here today with my mom and loved it. Super affordable pricing and delicious food. The waiters were extremely nice and gentle and I overall had a really great experience. Will definitely be coming back here

Yelp
Yummmm is all I have to say! Everything is SO fresh! I don't think there's a single thing on the menu that isn't delicious! More importantly, the staff is amazing. I have a soy sauce allergy so they were kind enough to make new batches of things to accommodate me. Parking was easy as there was room in the back. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I love getting their pressed sushi - super unique. The entire menu has so many great options too like nigiri, hand rolls, rolls, etc. so makes this super versatile for groups of people

Yelp
I promised my boys sushi for our last meal in LA. We booked a 5:30pm reservation here at Seabutter since it got amazing reviews and was close to our hotel...although even driving a mile in LA seems to take awhile. It took a few trips around the block to find parking, but finally found a post in the parking lot next door (right where Dr. Sandwiches is). We were one of the first tables in the restaurant and were served relatively quickly: - A few orders of edaname for the table - House salad for me - Sunset roll for myself (yum) - Salmon rolls for my youngest (he said the best he's had) - hot night roll for my oldest son (he loved) - veggie rolls for my vegetarian friend And after a long few days at theme parks with my boys I was happy to enjoy a glass of wine. It was the perfect meal to the take the kids- low key, tasty and quick. I know there's so many great sushi options in the area, but we enjoyed this one!

Yelp
Yum. Very fresh and tasty sushi. I ordered it via a delivery service and it was so good. I recommend this place and will go in person at some point t.

Yelp
Fantastic quality for the price. Seabutter is a great alternative to Sugarfish or Kazunori and is my new default sushi bar. I appreciated the buttery scallop cut roll and the rainbow roll filled generously with blue crab.

Melissa L.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE this spot!! I've never ever been disappointed by a sushi roll while dinning here. I've only been here about 4x and I can't wait to go back! Their rolls really melt in your mouth! The quality is always fresh and delicious. The salmon collar bone is always exquisite! Last time I decided to dine solo since my friends were unavailable and I could no longer wait! Their sunset roll is so delicious that I could eat 10 of them! Customer service is also always super amiable and friendly. 10/10 sushi spot I wish they had some closer to downtown LA!! Hello??? Or Inglewood area!! Please lmk when you open up another spot

Yelp
This is the second time I've gone to sea butter, excellent service, very friendly waiters and weight. Staff chef was amazing and above all else the food was amazing.

Yelp
I love this place; the sushi is always fresh and delicious. The service is friendly and the dining area is trendy. We typically come in for lunch when it's less busy. It's definitely our go to sushi place when we are in the area.

Yelp
Usually when I enjoy a restaurant I like going back and trying new things on the menu. I've been to both locations Glendale and Beverly Hills but a few days ago I wanted I was in BH and really wanted sushi. I had told my friends that I had been to seabutter a few times and really enjoyed it so I wanted to take them there. I wish I hadn't said that because I was so unhappy. I could not tell if it was just an off day or if the quality of fish had worsen. We ordered the sunset roll, Mr crab roll, hamachi yellowtail, halibut sushi, salmon sushi, red snapper sushi, a salmon roll which I forgot the name of and few other apps. The only thing that tasted good was the sunset roll and the yellowtail sashimi THATS IT. The rest was missing flavor. My halibut and red snapper sushi had a weird taste and I got a scale or shell in my mouth. The service was alright every time we would order one thing and we were going to continue with ordering more our waitress would just walk away. We had to call her over a few times to actually put the entire order in. Overall it was not a good experience and I'm not sure if I'd be returning.

Wayne S.

Yelp
Great selection of sushi, excellent service , waiter was really helpful with recommendations and not badly priced.
google avatar

Ev R.

Yelp
Seabutter has gradually become my favorite sushi bar in this part of town. Extremely fresh fish, delicate flavors, and the sweetest staff who will write hand-written notes and drawings on your boxes even if you're just picking up takeout. The space inside is fairly small and can get crowded, yet there usually isn't a wait. Despite the Beverly Hills naming, the prices aren't outrageous. Some of the freshest hamachi and kanpachi you'll taste, and they have some pretty varied tempura dishes too. Note that they sell their nigiri individually rather than as a pair. Small parking lot in back, but if it's full, the street parking nearby isn't horrendous at least.
google avatar

Carolyn K.

Yelp
Last time I was here, the food was incredible. I remember it being so good, I decided to order take out. It was horrible! The fish was so fishy and lacked flavor. It smelled so bad. I tried a few bites and couldn't eat it anymore. I gave it to my husband to try who's the least picky eater in the world and he couldn't even finish it. He said it was fishy and terrible. Not good and very disappointed! So fishy and gross.
google avatar

Elaina E.

Yelp
Delicious food. Excellent service. Music and decor relaxed. The Bluefin Carpaccio with fried onions and sautéed mushroom was off the charts. Garlic edamame and miso were good as well. I'll be back for sure.

Cristy T.

Yelp
Searching for a new sushi place and I found this place that so close to my hospital Food is delicious and staff is always gracious
google avatar

Kathy Z.

Yelp
This is sushi art on a plate. 15 out of 10 stars, hands down. It is oh so hard to find legit pressed sushi in Los Angeles, and Seabutter offers a variety. They do a sample size of nigiri and crudo dishes, ideal for sharing. Everything is pretty AND tasty - a truly underrated quality in a flashy city like this one. Seabutter is worth every penny. This is a small, intimate spot - plan in advance and make a reservation if you want to have the best experience possible. You can make a reservation online, not sure if they take reservations over the phone or if you even need one on quiet weeknights. I respect people who show up without a reservation and wait it out, but I do need that sense of security... :) Everything I had - pictures included - was truly amazing. Great fish-to-rice ratio, great quality fish, and the Lux Medley was one to remember. The staff were polite, polished and so sweet, too. There is another location in Westlake Village, in case you are situated closer to Ventura County or Santa Clarita County. If you're in the mood for a delicious, upscale dinner for date night, the BH location is definitely a must.
google avatar

Newsha R.

Yelp
Food is amazing here!!!! The quality of the fish is really amazing and fresh!! Ambiance -it's a small place but still it's lovely. Service is good.

Yelp
Upon walking in, I noticed it was very busy during dinner hours. There is plenty of seating heading towards the back of the restaurant, but I had made a reservation ahead of time through their Yelp page, so my boyfriend and I were seated at the sushi bar. The restaurant seemed casual and was lightly decorated. The sushi chef taking our order was very kind, and our waitress was also very friendly and checked in on us often. We ordered a bottle of Sapporo and three rolls. I cannot remember the names of the rolls, but my goodness they were extremely delicious. The prices seemed reasonable too, which surprised me. I was expecting ridiculously high prices for sushi in Beverly Hills. Overall, I'm so happy to have found a nice sushi restaurant with good prices and amazing food and service, and will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Lucia L.

Yelp
As someone who's always looking for a new go-to sushi spot, I really wanted to love @seabuttersushi , but unfortunately, their quality fell a bit short for me, especially for the pricing. Salmon trio sampler: I would actually highly recommend their salmon, which was super fresh (with a slight hint of sweetness and a super buttery flavor from the belly) and well cut! This was definitely worth, especially considering that you get 3 pieces for $14. Rainbow roll: Seabutter is known for their pressed sushi rolls, which are a bit more compressed compared to a traditional sushi roll. However, despite being plated beautifully, the crab filling was tasteless, and the sashimi on top did not taste fresh. I really wish I loved my experience more, especially seeing the care that the employees put into plating and preparing even my delivery meal, but unfortunately, the mediocre quality doesn't justify the high prices. You can definitely get better sushi for around the same prices, or the same quality for a lot less money in LA.
google avatar

Celia S.

Yelp
Worst experience of my dining life in Los Angeles. Not only did the sushi taste rancid and rice hard but they moved us mid-bite literally for no reason. They didn't even apologize. Please lord do not come here. Jesse the manager please contact me. I was treated like trash at your restaurant. Do you have no pride? Your server yelled at me and accused me of lying. I hope I don't get sick from the terrible tuna.
google avatar

Meagan M.

Yelp
This was my first time ever trying Presses Sushi, and what an interesting concept! While it had great flavor and I loved the fish, it fell apart and was more difficult to eat than regular sushi or cut rolls. I went with the Tuna Citrus ($19.50) because the server said it was one of their most popular from the pressed section. It had tuna, spicy albacore, gobo, jalapeño, and a small fresh lemon slice on top. Pressed sushi is something I recommend every sushi lover try at least once for the experience. They have a variety of crispy rice options that range from $6-$15, and we went with the spicy tuna crispy rice for $8.50. It comes with two pieces and it's absolutely amazing, a must order. I loved the amount of truffle and yuzu on their menu. My favorite thing about Seabutter was that they had fresh wasabi available. The name of the restaurant really threw me at first, but it was a great choice if you enjoy unique sushi. For parking, I'd recommend dining after 6pm so that you can get free metered street parking.

Yelp
Great potential for a 5 stars place if there is a lot of improvement. But do not deserve a 4.5 star for sure. I heard about this place from my coworker and decided to give it a try. The menu has the "taste of butter" at the end that no longer available. Don't know why they don't update the menu. Server is lazy and does not explain these changes to guests. Overall service is no where near professional 4/10 at most Overall impression about this place is very casual and informal from the presentation, service, setting and environment. Not an ideal place to celebrate any kind of anniversary due to all of the above which is a bump because they do have good food All the food is great. Every single piece of fish on the omakase have a very distinct taste and not just plain fish. Which is great because not a lot of place care about the flavor on top of a very good fish. Unfortunately i found a fish scale on a snapper in the omakase. Server don't bother checking on us and left before we even finish asking all the questions so we did not have a chance to bring this up Chilean sea bass is buttery and crispy, sadly the skin is burned. The only good side is that food has great flavor
google avatar

alexandra k.

Yelp
I got takeout from here, wasn't wowed by this place, especially given their pricing. The fish was fresh, but the flavor combos weren't anything inspiring. We ordered: 911 Daddy long legs Sunset Shiso special Sunset Tuna explosion Marilyn Monroll (carb free), wrapped in a thinly sliced pickled radish strip, no rice or seaweed. Salmon truffle sushi...?? Not even sure we got the true salmon truffle sushi -- I initially thought they forgot to give us the salmon truffle because it was the only roll that wasn't written on the box it was in, but then we noticed three different rolls in one box, but the box only listed two. But then there wasn't even a whiff of truffle, artichoke or citrus which the menu describes the sushi as having -- blandly tasted of salmon and rice. Wanted to love this place. Will continue the search for my go-to sushi place.

Yelp
We had a great dinner at this cozy spot! The service was quick, attentive, and super friendly. It wasn't crowded since it was a Monday, which was nice. The yellowtail belly and toro were incredible so fresh they just melted in my mouth. Would definitely come back!

Zina G.

Yelp
Service is awful! Very rude staff. Placed an order for delivery through their site at 5:53 and the order was to come at 6:41. Finally got food at 8:15! Don't order if you are hungry or have someplace to be and expect the timeframe to be honored. Order was incorrect too. I feel bad writing a bad review but this has happened to us before about a year ago and with service on many occasions. We will not be giving the restaurant another chance. All the best to them and I hope for other customers they improve their customer service and get more accurate on delivery times.

Yelp
I signed my name on the receipt but what I picked up smelled sooooo fishy! Nice customer service and the restaurant ambiance is cute and modern! Nice bar!

Yelp
First time here at SeaButter. We really enjoyed the food here. Frwy fish, great selection, really good Sake. Amazing experience overall. Service was good, sushi came out very quickly and we had a very good time. We will back for sure.
google avatar

Rose B.

Yelp
The sushi was pretty good but for the price there is better sushi in LA. The ambiance is nice, but nothing special. Again, it's not bad but for a town filled with great sushi it doesn't really compete.
google avatar

Lily T.

Yelp
Quality fish! My entire party was really impressed by the yellowtail sashimi. We came for dineLA lunch and left feeling satisfied. However, the quantity and quality definitely did not warrant for its price. We also felt very rushed with our meal, due to the server constantly hovering and asking to clear plates when we weren't quite done with our course. We all agreed there are places with easily better service, ambience and sushi for a similar price range. Probably wouldn't return due to that.

Celine O.

Yelp
This is my favorite sushi spot in LA in terms of quality, price, and ease of reservation. I go here once a month and it never disappoints. Service is good and food is amazing. I want to gatekeep but I also want their business to thrive.

Olivia B.

Yelp
Amazing sushi, very good quality and very impressed with service. Have gone back many times and it's my first choice

Yelp
The fish is excellent quality. The flavors of the original creations are delicious. Great local sushi spot.

Yelp
New favorite sushi place. There are some rolls with flavor I've never experienced before, and all of them more delicious than any other place I've been to. My personal favorite is the YTJ. The staff are also incredibly nice and helpful. So happy to live close enough that it's convenient to become a regular!

Yelp
Don't sleep on Seabutter! The fish was top notch, we ordered all sushi and splurged on the toro medley .. SO GOOD! Melt in your mouth toro. Top of it off with incredibly friendly and attentive service from the hostess to our server to various servers dropping off food it was a great way to spent a Friday evening. There are only a couple outdoor tables if you don't mind a busy street. By 830 it was buzzy inside, great vibes!
google avatar

Ramin R.

Yelp
Although it wasn't my favorite type of sushi due to the small portions, I have to admit that the quality was truly amazing. The flavors were exquisite and the ingredients seemed incredibly fresh. While the portions left me wanting more, I couldn't help but appreciate the attention to detail in every bite. Just thought you might find this information interesting. If you're in the mood to try some exceptional sushi in small portion, Seabutter might be worth a visit.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
I appreciate the service and the food was pretty good but if you have celiac disease like myself don't eat there. I would have given it more stars but I got very sick even after we did gluten-free allergy so there's got to be a ton of cross-contamination. And normally I don't get sick like this out of sushi restaurant, and I do everything gluten free any gluten free soy sauce so something's going on there

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for a while now but was hesitant since it's more on the expensive side. I finally decided to treat myself to take out and I was not disappointed! The fish is so fresh, and the flavors mix so well. My favorite were the amberjack-kanpachi and the sexy albacore. The to-go packaging was great as well. The baked scallop hand roll was just ok but everything else I ordered I really enjoyed. I hate that I loved it so much because now I'll spend a fortune on my sushi coming back!! Nonetheless I 100% recommend this place!

Yelp
Wow! Probably the best takeout sushi I've ever had. Can't wait to order again! Blue crab hand role was pure deliciousness!!! The toro melted in my mouth. LOVE!
