The Best Restaurants In Montauk - New York - The Infatuation

"Tucked away next to the pool in the backyard of the Solé East resort, Seasalt feels more peaceful than many places in Montauk. The food at the all-day spot is quietly impressive too, with great sourcing and preparation going into Mediterranean dishes like grilled tuna, or monkfish with salsa verde. Imagine this is your very own Hamptons estate, complete with a talented private chef." - melissa kravitz hoeffner, team infatuation

Yelp
Just WOW!!! Have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. The ambiance is beautiful, the food AMAZING! Mediterranean food with incredible flavor. Loved the oysters, monk fish dish & hummus appetizer. Highly recommend for an awesome experience You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
So I honestly didn't know how this was all going to pan out. I can here a bit trepidatiously as the reviews weren't that great, but it came highly recommend from a friend of mine who is a local of Montauk. I took my friend's reco and went and honestly, we had a great experience. The only reason why I'm not 5 stars all in here, the backyard piece of this place is the winner - the area out by the pool is magically lit and really quite beautiful, but it was far too cold and we had to dine inside instead and I wouldn't call the inside as equally of a beautiful ambiance and that was the let down for me. So if you can be outside that's where it really feels special. Overall, the food was very good. Tasty clam chowder that warmed me up on a cool night. The tuna was expertly seared and so delicious. Everyone was extremely happy with their meals. Would definitely come back, but make sure I'm outside :)

Yelp
Went on Memorial Day since it was the only place we could get reservations. Wouldn't have gone out but it was my dad's birthday. Music was crazy loud at 6pm and took 3 people requesting to turn it down. Waitress was trying but was on 3rd day of job and had no idea what was going on. Food took forever to arrive, and was very mediocre. I thought they made a mistake cooking my tuna through all the way but then realized I waitress never asked me how I wanted it. All this is forgivable and sort of par for the course for MTK, but then a family next to use brought a dog inside. Which was fine, until the dog sat on a chair and ate at the table. The dog also climbed on top of the table several times and barked a few times as well, so there's no way the staff didn't notice.

Yelp
We had a great meal here in Columbus Day weekend!! Dirty martinis were perfection. Started with the artichoke Parmesan flat bread which was delish. We had the lamb ragú gnocchi. The gnocchi was light as air and perfection. The lamb was melt in your mouth! The capelini was rich, creamy and outstanding. A glass of wine while relaxing outside by the pool and fire pit was fun! The service was outstanding. It is the end of the season and it was fabulous!

Yelp
I'm glad I didn't go by the mediocre reviews. We had an excellent dinner here. It's a lovely outdoor space and all the servers were attentive. The roasted chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy inside, and the creamy polenta was outrageously good. They also had a kid menu featuring steak & fries for $15 which was awesome for our little guy.

Yelp
First time here and I think might have been the last day before closing. I was delighted to be able to bring my dog. I ordered the Hangover, which was short rib on a bed of potatoes, fried eggs and a spicy avocado tomatillo sauce. It was super delicious. My husband had the burger and he said it was delicious also, cooked perfectly medium rare. I stole some of his fries and they were perfectly salted hand cut fries. The service was interesting. Our waiter was attentive and funny. My impression was that he was pinch hitting for the regular wait staff but he did a fine job and he kept us laughing. Ambiance is nice. I noticed some people commented about the pool. Because we were here late in the season, there wasn't anyone in the pool. I don't think I would have minded. The main thing is that the food was very delicious. I hope it's as good the next time I'm back.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in a hotel. We were seated for our reservation. Our server, Cooper was amazing. He was running crazy. There was a wedding going on prior to us getting there. So he was so kind to tell us that we couldn't place our food orders till 7:30. Which was fine. Then he came around and notified us that the kitchen was backed up. Which I thought was really professional. We were fine with waiting. We were talking to the table next to us. Our food came out in a normal amount of time. No delay. We had the hummus plate. Then my husband had the Monk fish I had tuna tartare and a side order of polenta. The food, the atmosphere were great. We will most definitely return Here, the next time we come out to Montauk! Cooper was very attentive to us.

Yelp
We showed up with a large group and I was excited as it looked like a beautiful place. I won't lie-it was a little weird eating an expensive meal next to a pool full of people and people in sun beds next to me. It started off rough: with such a large group, only a few pieces of bread were brought out. When we asked for enough bread for everyone to have at least one piece-it took SO long and several reminders for bread to come out. Our water pitchers were empty most of the meal. We asked them to be refilled and then they were empty again and left empty. One item wasn't available from the menu-but we didn't find out until all the other meals came out. They did comp the new meal that was ordered, but the second choice didn't come out great either. I ordered a simple side instead of a full meal and it never came. But after watching how the rest of the meal was going, I never even said anything because I was done with the night. They may have been short staffed...who knows. But for a table that ordered seven steak dinners plus several other entrees and a very hefty bill...I was expecting much more.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance and music. Great date night Place. Was in Montauk for July 4th weekend and this was a recommendation from a friend. Food was great but wished there was a bit more in serving. Had the Cavatelli Pasta and grilled octopus. The pasta had lobster meat, shrimp, Oyster mushrooms && it was phenomenal!!! The sauce was just right, too!! Grilled Octupus can be a miss or hit - sometimes tooo chewy, over grilled or that "fishhhy" taste....but this this was . Would 100% go back.

Jena K.

Yelp
The staff were exceptional! The food was "family style," 4 of us and $800 later, the chicken would have been better at KFC and the tuna was overcooked. I would NOT recommend this restaurant

Uzi S.

Yelp
Listen up: Im absolutely baffled by the bad reviews here. This is a wonderful restaurant - great food, excellent wine, great place to hang out. Never disappoints. We dine here regularly, and my wife is particular about her food and even more particular about her wine. And for the person who complained they didn't get enough bread - just ask for more.

Yelp
Kennys was a great find. Authentic Italian food with great service. Mario made us feel at home. We had a great experience. Cannot understand bad reviews. See you next year for dinner.

Yelp
Lots of fun & good food, not bad pricing for Montauk. Backyard seating area is beautiful

Yelp
Atmosphere is great but the food came out very wrong. We asked for the tuna rare and 3/4 of the tuna dishes came out well done. The service was mediocre at best

Yelp
One of the last real diners in this area. Amazing food and service. Chicken quesadilla with house Tzatziki (interesting combo) never disappoints. Fries are always great too. There's a lot to be said for a family run business like this and it satisfies Morning, Noon, and Night.

Yelp
I don't understand all of the negative reviews. Is it anything mind-blowing? No, but I think it's a very nice option for the area and is quite reasonably priced. We were a very large group (over 15) and were able to get a same day reservation over fourth of July weekend and were seated right away. We sat in the garden outside by the pool and the ambience was 10/10. Beautiful lighting, serene and peaceful. The servers were very attentive and nice, though some should learn a bit more about the menu (what is or isn't gluten free, etc.). We ordered a couple of bottles of wine, and other people were ordering cocktails. We shared a bunch of appetizers for the table, and people also ordered mains for themselves. The burrata was my favorite appetizer and I shared the steak with my friend as our main. The steak was pretty good (the potatoes and green sauce that came with it were very tasty) and was a fairly large portion, very shareable with the appetizers we ordered. We did not order any dessert as we were all full. Overall, for a large group, the location, scenery, and prices are on point.

Yelp
Once the server finally attended to us, he did quite well. Maybe they were short staffed. We got the oysters again. There's dirt at the bottom of the ice buckets they give out that you can bring back to your room.

Yelp
Went at Si Si for 4th of July weekend and these guys are really doing it right. The hamptons aren't an easy location to deal when is that busy. When we arrived the valet greeted us with a smile guiding us through the main gate decored with flowers... Our server was Philip from Ireland and he was nothing but amazing suggesting the right items to pair with our wine!! The entire staff is engaging and hard working. What a View!...with sunset and luxury yatchs! We'll definitely come back next weekend or whenever we will have the chance! Bravo Si Si!!

Yelp
I came to Montauk a few weekends ago for my bachelorette party. My friend made a reservation here for 10 people. We had to wait 20 minutes for our table, despite making the reservation. We were then seated at a table for 8, when we had 10 people. We waited for about 20 minutes until the hostess addressed the issues and brought us more chairs. It then took awhile for a waiter to come to our table. The service was atrocious (both from the hostess/waiter). The food was good. The burrata appetizer, polenta side and truffle fries were delicious. I also enjoyed the rose' sangria. I would not come back here due to the atrocious service, despite the food being good!

Yelp
Felt compelled to write a review because I noticed the previous reviews haven't been great. I went here on Friday night with my boyfriend after a recommendation from our friends (locals who come often). First off, I really enjoyed the ambiance, both inside and outside. The outside is definitely the highlight, but the inside is super cozy and inviting as well. We didn't have to wait at all. Right when we got there, we were unhappy with where we were sitting since it was next to the bathroom and requested a change. The host was extremely friendly and accommodating. He made sure that we were taken care of. While waiting for a new table, we sat at the bar and chatted with the extremely friendly bartender who made us great drinks and had good recommendations. It made the wait that much more enjoyable. When we were finally sitting at our new table (in a great location in the back), our waiter was upbeat and excited to serve us. Food wasn't brought out too fast so we had time to sit and enjoy. I knocked off a star because of the food. It wasn't bad food, my tuna was tasty. It just, in my opinion, wasn't quite worth the price. Entrees were over $40 so I expected them to be incredible. I know everything around there is expensive, but the price should still be justifiable. While the food might not have been the absolute best in town, I'd come back for the ambiance and service. I'd especially come back just to sit at the bar and drink a bit.

Yelp
My wife and I had dinner reservations here on a recent Friday evening as part of our honeymoon in Montauk. We arrived on time, were told they were clearing our table, and directed to the back bar to get a drink while we waited. It took about 15 minutes to get drinks (to be fair, it was a Friday night). We both had cocktails and they were good. When we checked back in, our table was ready. As we were seated, we were taken in by the relaxing and charming scenery. We also noted that all the staff were wearing masks and tables were properly situated. The rest of our experience was somewhat mixed. First, our server didn't seem particularly interested in us. He told us the specials then disappeared. When he was taking our order, he started to walk away from the table before we could finish (we wanted a fresh round of drinks). This could have been an issue with our particular server, or perhaps he was tasked with taking care of too many tables. It was just a bit odd, particularly in an intimate setting, to have a server not pay us much attention. As for food, I started with a salad and my wife the chowder, both of which were very good. For our mains. I ordered the special fish (it may have been black cod, I can't recall), which was solid but uninspiring. My wife had the roasted chicken which was similarly good but not great. The best part of the meal was undoubtedly the polenta served with my dish. My understanding is they do not offer dessert or apertifs as we were not offered any. The visuals and atmosphere of the Backyard are quite charming. However, the service and food don't quite match. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could and I'd consider returning depending on the circumstances.

Yelp
This place really shouldn't label themselves as a restaurant as it's more a food / drinks option by the pool. Unless I was staying at the hotel, I wouldn't trouble yourself. Service wasn't awful but wasn't great either by any stretch of the imagination. Lunch menu was very limited and overpriced. Ambiance seemed like it was trying to replicate a pool party in Las Vegas with loud house music and horrible acoustics. Energy wasn't great either as the vibe was very jumbled (college scene combined with an older crowd). Lastly, the decor was non-existent as it looked like they gathered a few leftover seats to complete a table setting; place had ZERO charm.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant and the food was pretty good. What stood out to me, however, was the service. Every table was bussed so quickly it was mind boggling, done by an unassuming little girl. She was bussing, the food was bussin, and the experience slapped. 6/5 stars!

Yelp
Food and service were great Paulie was the best i highly recommend patronizing, food was excellent!

Yelp
Right off the bat, I have to give huge props to the hostess on duty the evening we went. When our original reservation fell through at another restaurant, we gave them a call and they were able to accommodate our large party of 9 on a rainy Saturday night. As for the food, the best part was the warm french bread that took forever to come to the table. Everything else was just a little above average and the red wine we ordered was terrible (we asked for their best bottle). We were seated in the patio to get away from the DJ and blaring music inside. Even with the doors closed and the speaker turned off, it was super loud. And what seemed like every few minutes someone was coming in and out and slamming the door open and shut. Our server also referred to many of the women in our party as "love" or "sweetie" and that was a major turnoff.

Alexandra C.

Yelp
Understood this is a particularly unique time to be enjoying a meal, or serving at a restaurant. I give the wait staff a lot of credit. However, I am giving this establishment a 2-star solely for the fact that lunchtime here is not as serene as promised by the positive reviews - especially on Open Table. I had zero intention of hearing loud club music, and to be surrounded by people at the pool doing whatever they please (no social distancing, how can you?). There was no separation of restaurant patron versus pool guest. For what you can get at this here, and the lack of decor, I would take your money elsewhere. I'm shocked that the reviews are so positive. Perhaps they all enjoyed the dinner ambiance. I was certainly underwhelmed.

Gaby M.

Yelp
By far the worst restaurant experience in the hamptons - the service sucks, the bar takes almost an hour to get you your drinks. When we went, the forecast showed rain so we called ahead and asked if there were indoor accommodations. The host let us know that they did...but when it rained they crammed everyone into a bar with no tables, threw the food in to go boxes, and didn't provide any service. I'd rather them give an honest answer. Front desk staff was also incredibly rude. When in Montauk, go to eat at Duryea's and Crow's Nest. Don't waste your time or money here.

Yelp
1st night after a long drive to get to Sole East Resort ...we decided to dine at the restaurant "The Back Yard" on the premises. We ordered: Mediterranean Plate Wild Tuna Tartar Burrata Montauk Oysters All of which were incredibly tiny portions. The drinks were $13 ea. and sub-par at best. DRUNKS from the bar area were standing in the dining room at full volume while we tried to eat our $170 dollar meal! Wait staff was totally disinterested. Sad, because we were staying there for the week & would have been nice to have ENJOYED a few meals there. We will NOT be back again or recommend this establishment.

Yelp
Had a great meal on a Monday night at Backyard. Hadn't been in a while and didn't know what to expect. Wow! Great meal, ambiance (tables outside and around the pool) and service. For appetizers we had gazpacho soup with crab, mediterranean platter and arugula salad with goat cheese and cantaloupe. Yum! Entrees were just as good. Scallops seared to perfection, Rigatoni alla nonna (eggplant) and oven roasted chicken (really good). The restaurant was very accommodating for one of our party who has a dairy allergy. Service provider/waitress (Josette?) was great. All around fantastic experience. Don't know what it would be like on the weekends but for an weeknight it was awesome.

Carol I.

Yelp
Service was slow. Drinks overpriced 23 dollars for a tequila with pineapple juice! I ordered the flat iron steak with broccoli rabe, the steak was chewy for 48.00 . This restaurant used to be very good. Not anymore!
google avatar

Jane M.

Yelp
$14 glass of wine... a little stingy! Food ok but VERY pricey. Dined on a Thursday night in July....about 4-6 people having dinner. Empty restaurant tells the story. $5 glass of Sprite.

Kay E.

Yelp
We got the lobster pasta. It was awful. Undercooked pasta and two tiny pieces of lobster in it. The manager walked away as he told us he'd take it off the bill, which sounds like he already knew the food here was awful. Such a bummer because it's a super cute place.

Nancy A.

Yelp
Not impressed. Never put a lantern on my table; had to try and read receipt in dark. Gave waitress order and food was at table in five minutes. Just a little too fast. Table was uneven. Just wasn't impressed.

Thomas H.

Yelp
0 stars! Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Arrived to our reservation early and a couple arrived 10 minutes after us and were seated immediately. Per the hostess, they were seated because they were assholes. We were not treated like human paying customers and you would think we were getting a hand out. Don't waste your time or money here. Anywhere else would be a better option to spend your time or money at. Avoid at all cost.

Ava G.

Yelp
I went with my family last night. The scenery and all the workers are amazing. Also the lamb burger was exceptional !!

Robert B.

Yelp
It's okay. There are much better. Service is good. Food is fair. Prices are in line. Views are fantastic.

Therese S.

Yelp
This place goes above and beyond with customer service and really tries to make this the best experience possible. It's great for groups, especially brunch. Shout out to Omega and the amazing Sole East crew, we'll be back soon!

Yelp
Highly recommend, had a great experience, great service, FANTASTIC COCKTAILS! 5 stars from me. Thanks for reading!

Yelp
I came here with a party of 8 and the location was very cool. There were a bunch of white tables outdoors in the middle of a courtyard. The only thing holding this review back from 4+ stars was the service. There were clearly too many tables for the kitchen to handle. 2 of the 8 appetizers didn't come out but the ones that did were delicious. The entrees took forever to come out as well but the food was delicious as well. The server was gracious enough to remove all of the appetizers from the bill. Would only come back if they got the service situation together.

Faith F.

Yelp
Was rushed through our meal. Waitress wore her mask on her chin. Ordered a Charcuterie board to find out it was not available. Portions were small and food was overpriced, service was only ok. I would have ordered another drink but waitress walked away too quickly. I do not recommend and will not go back.

Nicole A.

Yelp
My two friends and I went to have lunch here on a whim. We called ahead and the person on the phone said told us there was no crowd and to head on over. For not being very crowded at all and having a small party of 3 people, the service was ATROCIOUS. We had to ask for our water three times and finally my friend got up herself to bring us water from the communal water jug they have set out for patrons. Only when the waitress saw her get up did she actually go and get us water, so we ended up with 6 cups. We then ordered 2 hamburgers, one medium, which ended up being fine, and the other medium rare, which was inedible. My friend had maybe two bites and left the rest of the very raw meat on her plate. The food took a long time to come out as well and then it arrived undercooked! The waitress asked if everything was ok while eyeing the plate of disgusting raw meat. Of course it was not ok. We did not want to make a big thing of it, especially because our meal was taking a ridiculously long amount of time and we just wanted this fiasco to end, but this should have been addressed by the waitress. The last straw was they added 20% gratuity to the bill, which I realize is standard for hotels to do. But this was a very generous tip in our view for very very poor service. The dining area is pretty, but that is the only nice thing I have to say about this restaurant.

Olivia M.

Yelp
The food is fine and the decor is nice. The service is awful. Their reservation system doesn't indicate if you prefer outside or inside dining so when an unexpected rain storm hits on MDW they don't know which reservations need to be canceled and instead chose to rush everyone out the door in order to turn over the table. Our meal, including a steak that needed to be cooked to MW, was brought out so rapidly that we were finished eating and could have been out of the restaurant within 40 minutes from arriving. We decided to stay for another two rounds of drinks and planned on leaving after the second, but the hostess very rudely and very directly told us we needed to leave because she needed the table for someone else. No offer to transfer the tab to the bar or comp us a drink for the inconvenience of moving, no discreet placing the check on the table or asking how our experience was, etc. For a location like Montauk where 1- discretion is paramount and 2- money flows east from a very small social circle in NYC, this restaurant should understand how all of my friends will hear how disappointed I was with the classless and tactless service.

Yelp
The only place in Montauk that remotely resembles the "Old Montauk Vibe" Friendly service , GREAT FOOD in a great space. A must in Montauk!

Yelp
Table of 10. Didn't alert us ahead that we Must get a prefix meal. Did not even give us a menu. Just yelled it out. Service was slow. Fish was Chewy. Beautiful setting but terrible everything else. Have tried many times. Rude staff. Waste of 1300$.

Yelp
I've checked this place out a few times this summer. Going solo has its perts and setbacks but going to Sole, I feel one with the party. Its a chill vibe, staff is supper friendly and accommodating. The seating is plentiful, beach beds, chairs and tables and wait staff to serve ya wherever you are on the property. The music is eclectic, mostly ambient, electro pop. The menu is fine nothing special but I did have the fresh mozzarella and tomato which was good. Came with bread and butter infused with balsamic vinegar and oil, yum. Also tried the white sangeria which wasn't bad. The prices are generally the same anywhere, expensive but equal to what you'd pay in the city. The bar can get a bit crowded even around 630pm. I went one night for music and I don't know if its protocol out here or what but they have flyers/promos saying drs at 6pm, yet the band doesn't start for hours! That's a bit...hmm...rude. Overall a good experience but nothing special.

Jessica R.

Yelp
The outdoor dining experience was great at Backyard. The decor setup looked gorgeous. We really enjoyed the food and drinks here as well as the service.

Yelp
Terrible experience!!!! manager quoted at a 40 dollars corkage fee then charged us 180 and told us we were flaunting our bottle. could not have been more inappropriate. Also told us the owner doesn't care cause he has enough money. Do not dine here!!!

Yelp
Let me preface this review by stating that I am from a small town where a primary source of funding into the economy is from tourism and I completely understand the up and down side to the tourist vs. local relationship and how frustrating it can be from both perspectives. Last night, I had the pleasure of meeting Shane, who described himself as a general manager at Sole East as well as close friends with the owner. I began speaking with him when I heard him saying (very loudly) disparaging things about the owners at Ruschmeyers, Surf Lodge, and Sloppy Tuna. We are all entitled to our opinions about the "experience" of places like this but the "facts" that he shared about these people and their actions and relationship to Montauk were completely off-base and without merit. One of his "facts" was that Surf Lodge was purchased for 900 Million Dollars. Riiiiighhhhht. This was one of a dozen assertions about people he admitted he had never met where he questioned their character, called them scumbags and completely disparaged their names with information that was as ludicrous in nature as Surf Lodge being worth 900 million. He then launched into a diatribe about how horrible all of us Manhattanites are. This is where it gets interesting. I of course made all of the logical points - Sole East likely makes a majority of their hotel revenue off of people like me, who live in the West Village and summer in Montauk. I pointed out that although we certainly respect the local culture we are coming here for an escape, to relax, to unwind, which is the nature of many beach communities. This is when he stated definitively and repeatedly (and still at a volume where you could hear 2 blocks away) that (this is his emphasis, not mine) HE AND THE OWNERS OF SOLE EAST DO NOT WANT ANY WEST VILLAGE OR MANHATTANITES VISITING THE ESTABLISHMENT. THEY DO NOT WANT US STAYING IN THEIR HOTEL, THEY DO NOT WANT US EATING AT THEIR RESTAURANT AND THEY MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT US DRINKING AT THEIR BAR. EVER. I promised to keep my west village self away and he then requested that I inform ALL OF THE REST OF MANHATTAN that they SHOULD NEVER COME TO SOLE EAST. Again, the caps are his emphasis, not mine. So Manhattan, you've been warned. Sole East doesn't want your money, your business and their manager, Shane, would prefer you take your business elsewhere. This guy was so insulting i'd recommend you heed his advice. They don't deserve our $$.
