The Best Montreal Caribbean Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"The social media-savvy Seasoned Dreams first made waves with jerk poutine mashups thanks to its first chef Jae-Anthony Dougan. While Dougan has since moved on, their menu has stuck to its Caribbean beginnings with jerk chicken burgers and tenders, oxtail, and other comforting eats. Now they’re cooking in both the Sud-Ouest and the Plateau." - JP Karwacki

Seasoned Dreams Founder Opens a Pan-Caribbean Restaurant in Montreal’s Saint-Henri | Eater Montreal

"Originating in Côte-Saint-Paul and created by Dougan (though he is no longer the owner), this breakout spot is where he devised the jerk chicken poutine that has since become a staple across town. The business began in 2015 as a catering project out of his parents’ garage before he opened his first brick-and-mortar on Anger Street—after securing a $98,000 loan to install ventilation—an early period he describes as starting from nothing, even sleeping on a basement couch." - Valerie Silva

Google
This use to be the spot. I am very disappointed with the food and service I received. You cannot order over the phone only online, what happened to talking to people nowadays? Ever since they changed owner of the restaurant; the food is not the same. Their jerk Mac and cheese use to be a hit. This is not the same place I knew. We ordered jerk Mac, Mac with chicken strips and a crunch burger. The chicken was dry, lacking that bold, smoky, spicy flavor you expect from proper jerk—it tasted more like a rotisserie chicken with some seasoning sprinkled on after. Tastes nothing like a jerk Mac. It also came with rice which was very hard and seemed like they just heated it up in the microwave. The Mac and cheese, tasted like craft single cheese, bland, definitely not creamy or cheesy the way it should be or the way advertised. For the price we paid, totally not worth it. The crunch burger was soggy, the chicken did not taste good. It felt like both dishes were made with no effort or care, which is frustrating given how amazing these foods can be when done right. Definitely not worth the money.

Google
A food lover’s dream!! A beautiful blend of Caribbean and local Québécois cuisine. Seasoned Dreams offer succulent meals in gigantic portions for a very affordable price. One bite and you’re transported into a world of flavours. Can’t recommend enough. Make sure to try their Oxtail! It’s amazing!!!

Wow wow wow… this place is a must go. The food is incredible and I met Joseph he is a master at his craft. The hospitality is tops. I recommend this place to everyone. The wings and Mac and cheese are just amazing

Google
Mac and Oxtail well seasoned no pun intended ! you quickly realize the time they took to season the meat & very tasty! Food was light flavorful and I enjoyed my meal

Google
I had a great experience at Seasoned Dreams! I ordered the goat with rice, and it was absolutely delicious full of flavor, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. You can tell they put love and care into their food. The portion size was generous, and everything tasted fresh. The staff were friendly and made me feel welcome. Definitely a spot I’d recommend to anyone looking for authentic, tasty Caribbean food. Can’t wait to come back and try more from the menu.

Google
Used to be one of my favourites but the quality has gone down drastically from the food to the packaging. Their delicious salads with goat cheese and mixed lettuce is now some cheap watery iceberg lettuce with tasteless shredded cheese and the “arrêt cardiaque” was flavourless and has less chicken, sauce, macaroni and cheese, and just more greasy fries in cheap boxes instead of the reusable bowls they used to have. Really sad and disappointing.

Google
I just ordered this through DoorDash and was blown away by the jerk chicken - smoky, tender, and oh so flavourful. I had the jerk chicken leg and opted for mac and cheese and the portion is huge, struggled to finish even when my son kept stealing bites. Absolutely delicious!

Google
My boyfriend an I would order the jerk chicken Mac n cheese every now and then and it was always AMAZING like the best ever Mac n cheese… now tonight we got it again after not having it in the past couple months from this location ( we alternate between this one and the other location) n it went downhill a lot. It got more expensive and the Mac and cheese is no longer Mac and cheese. It has a tomato Campbell’s soup taste and now has become somewhat spicy which is very odd that they would change the recipe since the last one was bomb. Idk if they changed owners or something but I miss the old mac n cheese recipe that didn’t have a tomato taste. We’re very disappointed to have spent 53$ on 2 Mac and cheese’s and it not being that original flavour we were under the impression on it being the same. I wish someone would have told us that they changed the recipe :(

Yelp
Small place, amazing food and staff. We got there at 630 on a week night and the place was empty (blaming it on the snow). The restaurant probably has 35 seats. They offer what looks like a full bar and a short list of homemade cocktails. I had the Island Tonic (gin, campari, triple sec and tonic) and i recommend it. Couldn't confirm if they offer wine. We shared plantain and spicy sauce as an appetizer. They offer sweet or savory, we got savory. Very good choice! I chose the jerk chicken breast plate with half rice half fries. Chicken is flavorful and tender, fries are thin and crispy and rice it traditional riz pois coller. They also have an option for Portuguese chicken. Both are cooked on fire. My partner had the oxtail Mac and cheese and omg what a fusion cuisine plate. Creamy, spicy, tender meat. The small portion is more than enough. They also offer poutine with choice or jerk chicken or pork, griot, shrimp or oxtail. I will be back for sure.

Yelp
Really really love this place. The oxtail is very good, the portions are very big, I also love there plantains here so nicely cooked and comes with this sauce. The mac and cheese is good aswell, I didn't really find the griot good, it was about dry but everything else was so good. Definitely recommend this place for Carribean food. Also the staff is very nice. I will definitely go back to try other things on the menu like the chicken wings or the oxtail poutine I highly recommend

Yelp
A few years ago when I first tried it, the food was good and then I tried it today and they're clearly using cheaper ingredients. The food was so bad. The only thing I enjoyed was the rice. The Mac and cheese was a very big disappointment. The cheese doesn't even taste like cheese and it has this weird sour taste. As for the chicken..... HOW DO YOU MESS THAT UP? it tastes so acidic and they gave me these miserable pieces of chicken. The marinade they used was horrible. Overall the food was definitely not worth the price.

Yelp
Boy, did I miss this place! Alors, un voyage "en ville" était de rigueur! And, it was worth the trip. On a commandé "Le Rêve" et ciel! It was The Dream! Falling off the bone chicken, THE best poutine (frites fraîches, décadente sauce and meaty cheese).. with Diet Cioke for me and a Red Stripe for my husband. Mac 'n' Cheese et salade pour souper car on est pleins comme des boudins! Yum

Nivetha S.

Yelp
This place knows how to flavour their food really well!! This poutine was oozing in flavour with the jerk chicken and it's sauce! The fries and cheese were really good and the flavour overall was just incredible The pink ting drinks complimented the food very well, great combo overall

Yelp
What a great spot Seasoned Dreams is!! The service is fast and the menu is very easy to understand. The staff is also very helpful in case you need explaining. We went there on a Wednesday for lunch and were lucky enough not to wait in line. We ordered the Mac n Cheese which was out of this world. We also tried the poutine with jerk chicken. The chicken is amazing and full of flavour, as well as the poutine sauce. Finally, we tried the porc griot plate which came with rice, fries and a side salad. The pork itself was good but a little bit dry, the rice was phenomenal and the fries as well. This spot will definitely make you travel and they have a unique twist on island food. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous (around 40$ for the 3 plates we ordered). A must try!!!

Yelp
This place is amazing!! You have got to try the Mac & Cheese with added jerk chicken! It is to die for! The mac is so creamy and cheesy, the chicken tender and the jerk spice has the perfect amount of kick. Just flippin delish! U gotta to fo try it!

Yelp
You can't never go wrong with seasoned Dreams! I first discovered this place at the annual poutine fest in 2017. I was thrilled by the amazing flavours popping in my mouth. I followed them since then. Communication isn't great with them but I don't care because the food is great and generous. They went from the location on Anger Ave to Laurendeau and now the have that amazing location on St Laurent. Great atmosphere, good jam mostly from the 90's and early 00's fun people/ waiters. I highly recommend this place, great time guaranteed. On top of that it's affordable

Yelp
Seasoned Dreams is a hidden gem and a must when you are craving for some jerk chicken or mac and cheese. I had half a chicken with rice and fries, a side of plantains, and mac and cheese. The three dishes were a must. I believe that their mac and cheese is the best in Montreal. Jerk chicken is spicy enough and juicy, and the plantains are to die for.

Yelp
I like this restaurant, the food is flavorful and they give decent portions. And for the other stuff, well it takes time for them to prepare your order and it's quite expensive compared to other carribean restaurants close by.

Yelp
Mmmmmm. So damn good, the photos sure keep their promises. Excellent service, food was ready quickly for takeout, and it was freaking delicious. I did not like the coleslaw, no big deal. Half chicken and Mac n Cheese, amazing flavours and fresh chicken. Great sized portions. Really hope it comes to Vancouver.

Yelp
Food was good but that's about where the positive stopped. Order was prepared late, food was barely warm and the portion for the "half chicken" with mac and cheese was comically small for a 27$ meal. When I called back to get explications from the staff their reaction was very cold. It's a shame for a place with such potential

Yelp
The cardiac arrest is sooo good def recommend that dish. Def the best mac and cheese I've ever had and finally got to try poutine which is a big thing in Canada. The cardiac arrest combines both plus your choice of meat which I chose chicken. We went back the following day for more, it's that good. Nothing I've ever had in the states.

Yelp
Honestly one of my favorite restaurants in MTL! Everytime I visit, I never leave disappointed. Best mac and cheese I'VE EVER HAD! Friendly service too

Carlos B.

Yelp
We ordered the gold chains combo. We couldn't eat the food that we barely started, after my kid found a curly black hair in the mac n cheese...

Justin J.

Yelp
One of my favourite places. New location has seating which makes it that much better.
