Austin Restaurant Second Bar Opens in Mineral Springs, Texas - Eater Austin

"Austin restaurant Second Bar + Kitchen is opening another new location this year. The New American restaurant will open up in Mineral Wells, Texas within the Crazy Water Hotel on Friday, October 27. The expansion makes sense seeing that the restaurant’s parent company La Corsha Hospitality Group is partnered with the hotel. La Corsha regional vice president and executive chef David Bull actually moved up to Mineral Wells. Second Bar’s Mineral Wells menu will include familiar dishes such as the black truffle pomme frites, pastas, pizzas, and more, plus vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free options. Cocktails will include items made with the hotel’s bottled water brand Crazy Water, which makes use of the town’s famous mineral water, as well as an array of nonalcoholic drinks and beers." - Nadia Chaudhury

Our server was lovely but he had a ton of tables so we felt slightly neglected. The restaurant itself was nice and clean but very loud. The crispy brussel sprouts were a 10/10. We also enjoyed the black truffle frites. I LOVE beet salads but this one didn’t do it for me. The salad was warm and had mint which didn’t seem to mesh well with the other flavors.

Glad we found this restaurant on our day trip to Mineral Springs! Nestled inside a historic hotel, the staff are very welcoming and the food is so creative and good. Zero proof cocktails and wellness shot available. Food presentation is well thought out as well. They also give you a brochure with history of the hotel and things to do locally. Our server Bobby were great. It was a good birthday lunch! Thank you

My wife and I have eaten here twice. Both times we have been impressed with the food and service. All food is well seasoned, tastes great, and seems to be fresh. The service is good and the servers are very friendly. Hope to make this one of our regular spots.

Our Server was excellent and the menu looked great BUT don't order a salad! Unless you're not expecting much. They definitely are not entree salads more like small side salads. It's like they punish you for ordering something healthy. ... I took my father here for Father's Day Brunch and he ordered the Farm to Market salad $14. I guess they forgot to go to the market. It was so sparse and lackluster I was seriously embarrassed that they served it to him. It literally had a few misc pieces of lettuce in a bowl. It was the saddest salad I have ever seen. I ordered the Roasted Beet Salad ($14) with salmon ($10). I requested to have it without the red vinegar dressing as I prefer my salad dry and felt that it wouldn't pair well with my choice of protein. It came drenched in a big bowl of bitter liquid (dressing). There was about 1 cup of liquid in the bowl. The salmon was overcooked and the chickpeas, that were supposed to be the crunch element, were soggy blah.As people who really enjoy a great salad, this was the opposite and hugely disappointing for my dad and me. If we hadn't started with the truffle fries for the table, which were very good and a decent size to share among our group as an appetizer, we would've left as hungry as we came in. Our spouses both ordered the Waffles (cleverly shaped like Texas) and enjoyed every last bite.

We had the BEST EXPERIENCE there last Saturday night! We were in Mineral Wells for a visit to the Crazy House spa. Our camping plans were foiled by the rain, so we started looking for a place for dinner. We stumbled upon a 5:15 reservation for Second Bar + Kitchen. We received a glass of champagne while we waited on our table and found out it was only their second night open! How lucky we were to snag a reservation! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner! Our server was super helpful. We absolutely loved our meal. The Brussels sprouts and shishito peppers were so delicious! Our pizza and mushrooms were a perfect pair. The buttermilk pie was absolutely delicious! The restaurant is gorgeous! We can't wait to go back.

We traveled to Mineral Wells for a girls trip and ghost walk. This gem is located in The Crazy Water Hotel. Our server was new but did a great job. We did not have reservations so I assume that is why we were seated in the hotel lobby. Nonetheless, one of the best steaks I have ever had along with a side of polenta. You must also try the side of mushrooms as a side and the risotto balls as an appetizer. For desert, you must try the blue bell ice cream with touch of sea salt.

This place is an amazing oasis. In the middle of tough dining options. The food is wonderful. The staff is awesome. Brian, our waiter was very knowledgeable and a very nice person. We went here the night before Christmas Eve and had an outstanding evening. All of the dishes that were recommended were amazing. We had Shishido peppers, Parmesan truffle fries Fried pickles to begin with… They were all amazing. The mains are table had were ribeye, warm beach, salad, and salmon. Each of them was prepared properly and delicious. The desserts were amazing. Cheesecake and buttermilk pie were beyond amazing. Thank you to Shelby for getting our family in on such a busy night.

Google
The cocktails were great, the Lavender infused Gin was amazing. The food would have rated higher if the Burger wasn't overcooked, crumbly and dry. The Cowboy Ribeye was very good, the Green Chile Polenta was lifeless and Bland. The appetizers were great, the shishito peppers were good but not blistered, Brussel Sprouts were great though, and the Fried pickles were very tasty! We visited during the Holiday Season so perhaps some staff were on holiday. the atmosphere was a little pedestrian, booths were too high, legs couldn't touch the floor. The restaurant could use some help in the ambiance department, I felt like I was sitting in a Hotel Lobby. Service was sub-par, finished plates left on the table, waited about 20 minutes to try and get another drink to go with dinner. I read the other reviews and was excited to try this restaurant, it's exciting to have a restaurant like this in Mineral Wells. I will try going there again after the Holidays, I love supporting small businesses and quality restaurants. I would like to add that it would have great to have a choice of Crazy water, a flight of Crazy 1,2,3,4 or Sparkling Crazy water would have really been a nice touch, being that the restaurant is IN the Crazy Water hotel!

Yelp
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner here on Saturday evening. It's such a lovely room and it has a classic yet relaxing ambiance. I ordered the salmon, which was prepared beautifully, and my husband went for the ribeye; no regrets there either. Our server, Tyler, was very pleasant and gave us great advice on our menu selections. If you haven't visited here yet you're missing out-- treat yourself!

Yelp
Amazing place. Great bar... great food!! We got the Pork Ribeye and was honestly one of the best pork chops I've ever had. Service was amazing. The old fashion was a top 5 all time for me.

Yelp
We made a reservation for happy hour as it was recommended to me by someone from the area. We are glad we did. The lounge seating is comfortable. Our server was attentive and made great recommendations for drinks. The black truffle fries and chips and guacamole appetizers were excellent as were the drink prices. We would definitely come back to try dinner here as the menu looked amazing.

Yelp
The ambiance of this place is golden. It is in the Historic Crazy Water Hotel, which in itself is charming, fun to visit and always put a smile on my face. I gave it three stars due to location. The up front service was polite and friendly. Lots of good people smiles and attentive. Our waitress was pleasant and gave suggestions along the way. I was expecting a fabulous 5 star food experience. I was so disappointed. The food was a great disappointment, no flavor. The plating was a mess and not appealing at all. We had a party of four and only one person was pleased with their dinner. This was the Beet Salad. Sloppy plating, only about four beet slices, covered in micro greens, freeze dried chickpeas, and vinegar. The vinegar dressing overpowered the salad and it needed salt. For $15, I was so disappointed Soba Noodles was poorly plated. Down right ugly and unappealing. The person who ordered it, said it was plain. No taste and extremely vinegary. Such a disappointment. Broiled Salmon was plated just ok. The salmon was cooked well and had good simple flavor. I enjoyed it. The side was supposed to be butternut squash and broccolini. I got four butternut squash cubes and 1 tiny broccolini. The purée on the bottom was a vinegar butternut squash- very sour and not enjoyable. It did add to the dish at all. In between the butternut squash and broccolini, there was about 13 soggy croutons that made the sides look filled in but left the palate wanting more. I so dislike soggy bread, no matter what format it comes in. The whole plate was covered in micro-greens, as to hide the plating and make it look bigger than what it is. The New York strip was cooked to perfection and the polenta was tasty. However that whole plate was $55. Plated well and had really good flavor. This party member was the only one that enjoyed his food and experience. Out of the four of us, only one left satisfied with his meal. And that was the New York strip steak. The rest of us left hungry and unsatisfied with our dinners. We were hoping that our very souls would have been touched by the food of this particular Chef . We had heard so many great things about it, only to be incredibly disappointed. I will say that this restaurant is the most expensive, fanciest , nicest, AND CLEANEST restaurant in Mineral Wells. But the food is lacking. I'm sorry.

Yelp
Exceptional is not a strong enough word for this place. From the service,to the bar, to the food, you cannot go wrong. We tried an appetizer, a burger, drink and dessert and all of them were excellent. The burger is one of the best we have ever had. It was perfectly cooked, juicy and the flavor was spot on! Don't miss out of the incredible desserts. We tried the buttermilk pie and it was delectable! We have eaten all kinds of food all over the US and this quickly moved to one our top "all around" meals. The service was great as well and our bartender answered every single question I asked her. She was so patient and helpful. I can't wait to try something else from the menu. I have a feeling you can't go wrong with any choice you make.

Yelp
Service was exquisite. Food super good. Highly recommend the brussels sprouts as a starter. We were basically sitting in the hotel lobby, but it wasn't too busy, so the noise was at a minimum. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in Mineral Wells or passing through.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best food I have ever had. Thank you, David, for bringing such quality food to my hometown. The atmosphere of the remodeled Crazy Water hotel only adds to the class of this restaurant. Whether it's elevated American classics like hamburgers, weird choices like olive oil and ice cream, or some of the best appetizers you have ever tasted like the meatballs or Brussels sprouts, you cannot go wrong on this menu. Everything tastes amazing and I promise you will not be let down!!

Yelp
I was looking forward to eating here and half the reason for the stop in Mineral Wells and staying at the Crazy Water hotel. I've enjoyed the ATX location and looked forward to this meal. Upon arriving at 6:20pm we were told that if we didn't have a reservation, we'd have to sit in the lobby seating. Unfortunately, the 5 tables, one 2-top in particular remained vacant throughout dining. We instead were graced with the ambiance of the lobby and preteen baseball kids running around and banging on the lobby piano. The Brie arrived and it was delicious! It was like having a gourmet appetizer in the middle of a theme park. Savor the flavor. We ordered 2 burgers, mine was a medium-well Congress burger. Well presented and that was all. We should have stopped with the Brie. Drinks lagged, polenta side was presented well, but lacked flavor. Hopefully this was a one-off experience and other patrons will have the culinary experience they are known for providing.

Yelp
just wonderful! 88 local investors have taken on the crazy water hotel and brought it up to find standard. This is not the giant baker hotel but it goes back to the same. era is equally beautiful. it is a large hotel. I'm sorry we didn't stay there this time, the pool and spa in the basement have yet to be renovated. We made reservations on.Resy for a table in the lobby area, but were told by reception that it was closed. The actual restaurant has an echo and if you're looking to talk, it's loud when I mentioned this to Lily our waitress she immediately said she'd be pleased to serve us at a lobby table. she was on top of everything a most marvelous fruit, waffle, eggs, and coffee. Did I mention the hot syrup? We made this trip for a short getaway from Fort Worth. We will be returning.

Yelp
a first for me in mineral wells- a craft cocktail and dining experience! second bar+kitchen is a new and happening locale located in the crazy water hotel, which is experiencing a rebirth back to its roots after years of being an old folks home and then unoccupied. the building and restaurant harken back to mineral wells heydays, marble and vaulted ceilings. the restaurant combines these beautifully restored features with midmod accents, creating a beautiful dining experience! we sat at the bar and enjoyed the attention to detail from the servers, as well as watching the bartenders work their magic. the food and drinks were very good, the star of the show was the specialty burger. now, i wont lie, we had a bit of sticker shock - these are big city prices in small town mineral wells- but it is an experience that you would otherwise have to drive to fort worth for. we will return!

Yelp
They are constantly out of items on the menu. I have been here at least 5-6 times and 100% of the time they are out of something that I wanted but found out when they took my order that they were out of it...back and forth several times until I could place a complete order without having something "not available". When this happens I always switch my drinks to the cheapest beer and meal on the menu thereby costing the restaurant at least $100. Which cost the server $20 in tips because I always tip 20%.

Yelp
There's a book called time was in Mineral Wells - It was published with a photograph of my grandfather on the slipcover and that photograph from around 1895. Needless to say we go back along time in this area and I'm so happy that a quality restaurant has moved in and the revitalization of the area. I even had the privilege of living in Austin and I was super excited when this restaurant was coming here and I am still excited after eating there for my first time. We no longer have to go east to weatherford now we can go west to Second. The quality of the food was spot on, the service for what I always feared would be hard to find in this small town was actually a pleasant surprise. The restaurant was busy and the ambience excellent. It may not be all things to all people, but then again, it's good for me. I hope you as well. Give it a try.

Yelp
WOW!!! What a gem. Went two weeks ago with grandson. Had the bone in Ribeye. Awesome. Service was excellent. We live on a ranch one hour north of mineral wells. Last Friday I brought my wife to enjoy a wonderful meal . Located in the Crazy Water Hotel this is truly an amazing place. I had the New York strip with a side of Beets and SOURDOUGH bread. Omg. So good. Wife had a salad and Chicken/pasta. James, our server was so helpful and personable. The menu offers so much and with THE man, Chef David Bull, providing excellent food . We will definitely be back. The flavors of the appetizers anything on the menu will rival Any place you have been. R

Yelp
Almost as good as Mesquite Pit. Service is excellent. Ambience is unacceptable, reverberation off hard surfaces, painfully loud at half capacity.

Yelp
The best food in town!Great service, Fantastic waiters. Good atmosphere. The Brussel sprouts are the bomb.

Yelp
The only complaint we have with the restaurant is the music is so loud and so aggressive for the atmosphere. Everybody had to scream over everybody. The food is amazing. The service is wonderful, but the music is horrible!

Susan G.

Yelp
Loved the new restaurant at the Crazy Water Hotel! The bartender, Caleb, was so friendly & knowledgeable about the custom cocktails and menu. They make their Bloody Mary mix from scratch & infused the vodka with roasted peppers for a perfect spicy drink. The bacon & pork are brined on-site. The truffle fires are a must side! Loved that they were playing an old movie in the bar for an amazing ambience to this historic hotel!!

Stacy W.

Yelp
We have been to Second three times now and have had a wonderful experience every time! The atmosphere is great but the food and service is amazing! Everything has been wonderful! I love the roasted chicken dish and all of the salads. My husband loves the burgers. Highly recommend! We don't live in Mineral Wells but I wish we did so we could eat here at least weekly!

Yelp
The food is top notch and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Great vibe inside the historic Crazy Water Hotel.

Mark B.

Yelp
The atmosphere here is the only reason I didn't give it one star. Located in a historic hotel, the restaurant definitely has some visual charm. The food on the other hand left so much to be desired. From the Luke warm water they give you to the "I'm trying to hard to be fancy" ingredients in the burger to the cold store bought tortillas they used to make the breakfast tacos, there was not one item that our party of four found delicious or even adequate especially at this price point. I'm going to be very surprised if this place is able to survive

Ruth C.

Yelp
Front of house friendly and accommodating. Sat at table by door and greeted by waiter in training. He was great the trainer was a bitch. Starters horrible. Bread cold fried cheese gummy. Moved to better table and our waitress great. Raw salmon?? Really!! Entree ok but mediocre. Dessert heavy and had better at Albertson's

Barb T.

Yelp
Excellent food service and ambience. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. Great spot for the weekend for a special occasion

Laurel O.

Yelp
So so good! Yes it is $$$ but worth it paid more for crappy food in Dallas or ft worth. The service was sublime and the ambiance perfect! Will go back again and again!!!! Not to mention rickhouse brewery right next door for after dinner beer!!! Do this! You owe it to yourself!!!!

Kelly B.

Yelp
Our first visit here was terrific. The atmosphere is charming and feels special and yet casual. The highly recommended Crispy Brussels Sprouts as an appetizer was as good as we have ever had. I ordered the hot cheddar bacon burger with a side salad; the burger was well seasoned and so tender and the toppings of pimento cheese, bacon, and jalapeños were a delicious blend. The lime vinagrette on the side salad was also great. My husband ordered the pork belly BLT with truffle fries, and he loved his meal just as much. Liz, our waitress, provided excellent service. We love this beautiful, historic setting and the top notch food and look forward to our next visit already.

Trenton T.

Yelp
I had a fantastic ribeye, extremely tender and full of flavor. Great drinks. Amazing service from a Robbie, he was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He was very positive and made sure we never had a half empty glass and were well taken care of.
