The Best Places To Eat Outdoors In Bed-Stuy - New York - The Infatuation

"You know that herbalist acquaintance of yours who sells crystal-infused incense on Etsy? That’s who you’d probably run into at Secret Garden, a restaurant and juice bar that serves vegan bacon cheeseburgers, iced matcha lattes, and a bunch of herbal teas you’ve probably never heard pronounced out loud. They’ve got benches and outdoor sidewalk tables that you can use from 12 to 7pm Tuesday through Saturday and from 12 to 6pm on Sunday." - nikko duren

"I got the salmon salad from this bodega nearby called Secret Garden Juice Bar & Tea House on Halsey and Lewis. I love them. It’s like a fancier bodega where they have nice food. They just have the best salmon salad that they make up with olives, chickpeas, carrots, corn, sautéed mushrooms, beets, Parmesan cheese, and sweet peppers. Oil and vinegar. I put a lot of green stuff in it and also cashews and capers."

Just entering the space makes you feel so calm and warm. Beautiful reggae tracks and all vegan menu. We got the coconut milk chai, chopped cheese and curry chicken wrap with side salads. Really wanted to get the stew but that's only available post noon. Absolutely floored with how amazing every single dish tasted. Will 100% be coming back very often.

Google
Came here for a quick juice, and was not disappointed! $10 for a very large and tasty and fresh drink is a good deal. The decor inside and music are eclectic to say the least, and there’s incense burning in the planters outside near the covered patio. There’s books, handicraft for sale, and art supplies for free use. It’s a very kitschy and cute spot with an artsy thing to look at everywhere you glance. I’ll be back to try some vegan food next time!

Google
I ordered a juice and it tasted like medicine:( I think your reply to my review was nasty. yes i came in and ordered a concoction to fit my desired taste. I asked for mint, cucumber, lemon and green apples. What i ordered was executed poorly. I dont taste cucumber or even green apples in this drink. I rated this based off of how it was EXECUTED because the service was also poor honey! ;)

Obsessed with this Brooklyn hidden gem! The vibes are amazing inside this small female owned cafe! The staff was very friendly. We definitely came for the boho tropical aesthetic. My friend and I are obsessed with their smoothies and can’t wait to go back! The atmosphere is perfect, really loved the music. Had so much fun collaborating with Secret Garden Oasis!

Google
1/21/25 UPDATE: new obsession are the cookies from here! freshly baked every day with rotating flavors. if you EVER need a cookie or smoothie, come here! after over half a year of constantly visiting, i can confidently say the service and quality are top-tier! consistently. i❤️this place this place is absolutely divine, the drink options are endless (and AMAZING), the smoothies are prepared so well its unreal. total gem in bed-stuy, huge recommend

Google
Great spot in Brooklyn. Vegan food is awesome. The fresh drinks are amazing, especially the smoothies. Outside seating only. The atmosphere is calming and relaxing. They also sell oils and other goods. They accept cash and card. The incense they burn while outside smells so good. It is a must to make sure you visit when in BK. Black owned

Google
Walked past this place and it looked good to try. Great marketing but the products aren't so good. The decorating is amazing. Good vibes, ambiance and all that. Even the menu items are well written. We ordered the curry stew which we expected more of a broth based item but it was really just a bunch of chickpeas, spinach on rice with light turmeric sauce that needed more flavor and a side salad. It wasn't super flavorful and just tasted more like a healthy vegetable bowl. It was filling but deceptive. And prices high in my opinion. Also ordered a chai latte which tasted super watery. They say they use a creamy oatmilk but no creaminess was perceived. Not good. Service was great though, and the place has potential but flavor upgrade, some indoor seating or working great lamp, and better quality cafe drinks are needed. Also more sustainable packaging to match the concept.

Google
This place is so cute, artistic and beautiful. Although, its name is Secret Garden but the decor screams “Hello, look at me I’m here.” which is perfectly fine because I love you. I had the opportunity to try the vegan cashew and pistachio cookies and they were absolutely delicious. The coffee was very good as well. The re are many options to choose from the menu. I definitely have to bookmark this business for future visits.

Yelp
I checked this place out on Friday and it's enchanting. It's a vegan cafe that feels similar to a living room abc back yard. There are many interesting books on culture and health placed around if one needs anything to read. I ordered a smoothie and a vegan cookie. My smoothie had mango pineapple and sea moss. I may come back in the near future. It is the perfect place to read or study. The service is pretty quick although there was one service

Yelp
I walked up to this spot and felt my shakras align babes. If you check it out you'll know exactly what I mean. They have a ton of options on the menu to choose from and everything is Brooklyn inspired. I couldn't decide and ordered 2 beverages for myself. It felt like I was walking up to an Erykah Badu concert. A little bell to signal you are at the window to order but there are also goods for purchase inside as well as cafe options, fresh juice and smoothies. I will definitely go back. I can't describe the vibe of this spot other than calm, sage and evil spirits be gone. (Insert Erykah lyric)

Yelp
Who knew? Not just great coffee, fresh delicious juice and fantastic service; the delicious looking Chickpea Stew Is also gluten free!?!!! WIN! I was in rush, so didn't stay even with the inviting seating and canopy; but my food was so hot and well packaged that I got home and my dinner was just as fresh, hot and delicious as I could ever want. Once again, Joy delivers

Yelp
I'm giving this a food a five star because even though it was a little wait for my food, it was the best breakfast burrito. I've had loved it. The seasoning was good, the salad was good. Very delicious! The smoothie was good but a little watery. This was my first visit. I will be going back.
google avatar

Alyssa H.

Yelp
The food I got from here was so flavorful and fresh. The salad that came with the chick pea sandwich was really good!!! I can't wait to come back and try more
google avatar

Ash B.

Yelp
This is theeeee perfect place for lunch! The vegan chickpea sandwich was so satisfying and the sunshine juice was refreshing on a hot day. Definitely will be back to try their extensive coffee and tea menu!

Yelp
So yes I came back on Earth Day to get some more of that aromatic, warm, and tasty Hibiscus Tea. Again it looked like a small intimate gathering of friends. Everyone said hello. She remembered me, she took my order, the tea was awesome, Apple Pay machine was working, and those wind chimes were humming. I took a seat and sipped my Tea. Great afternoon...great atmosphere...almost sixty degrees...I could get used to this!
google avatar

Courtney S.

Yelp
All I can say is wow! This place is really low-key but the flavors are high-key lol. I came here to redeem a voucher I received from Yelp, for a free spiced coffee and 2 cookies. I also ordered the vegan curry chicken sandwich and a ginger shot. The sandwich literally blew my mind with how good it was. & the salad that came on the side was so fresh and came with sliced strawberries and pears. I loved that the salad wasn't drenched in dressing. No indoor seating so I sat outside, got some work done on my laptop and said my goodbyes to the great staff. This place is Black-owned which is my favorite part. Many areas and restaurants in Brooklyn are now places that I don't feel welcomed or taken care of as a Black person so my experience here meant a lot to me.

Yelp
I walked up to the window and said hello to the young woman at the window. She didn't speak back but I proceeded to look at the menu. I asked her what foods were in 2 dishes because my son has a life threatening food allergy, and she brushed it off giving me one word responses. I asked what was in the BBQ sauce and she said "It's regular BBQ sauce". When I asked exactly what is it made of she went to see and confirmed the exact ingredient was my son's allergy. I asked for a manager and was told to wait five minutes, but I decided to leave. Her nonchalant and frankly, rude attitude, will make sure I never eat here.

Yelp
The vegan curry chicken sandwich is delightful-- peppery and fresh in a way that made me forget it wasn't real chicken (a big plus in my book). I got a different tea than the one I ordered, but the one I did get was great, so I didn't really mind. They were also out of both specials, but the atmosphere and tastiness of the food made up for all of it. The outdoor tables were small, but pleasant. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite local cafes. They have a wonderful vibe and aura, full of fairy-like decor, vegan friendly items, and just lovely aesthetics. It's an outdoor cafe but they have benches and tables for you to sit at! I ordered the: Lavender Latte -- this was magical! they don't shy away from the lavender syrup which i appreciated. it was an interesting blend with coffee but i very much enjoyed it. they put pieces of mini floral petals and lavender leaves on top, which a cute touch. Pistacho Cookies-- Yum! can't even believe it's vegan. it's like shortbread, which i love, and the texture is crunch and melts in your mouth. Can't really taste the pistachio much but it was still really good :) Overall, i love this place. it's a place where you go on a nice sunny day and bring a book to read. It calms me down and everyone is really sweet. The place is decorated with a vine of flowers and beautiful nature touches. Check it out!

Yelp
Absolutely incredible gem in the wall. Everything's delicious and nutritious. Go there now!
google avatar

Cathy K.

Yelp
Vegan cafe with yummy smoothies and drinks, and good vibes with an awesome soca/afrobeat playlist. Handful of tables to enjoy on a sunny day. Tried the bloom smoothie with espresso, banana and peanut butter but was a bit disappointed it had more of a bitter taste. Got a coconut milk based coffee that we enjoyed.

Yelp
I've had a few things here, but I really jus come for the drinks. The Hoodhealer is my fave because it's a go-to flavor of mine when it comes to a latte (hello baking spices) and ofc a love for Imani! One thing I really want to commend this space on is having accurately temperature drinks! Hot drinks are hot, not lukewarm, not cool. I love that. Ideal café behavior.

Yelp
Had a flower arrangement delivered. I picked out the flowers but didn't see the arrangement. There were supposed to be 3 gerbers . They used only 2. I called them, and they said , "No, we used 3, and we will send you a picture of it. They never did. Well ,my party that did receive the arrangement posted it on Facebook and I forwarded to them. They never responded to me. So not trusted. I will never go back there again.

Yelp
This place is an unbelievable find to hang out. We came here for dessert after eating pizza across the street. We both had a tumeric iced drink called Moonshadow (I think) and it was so absolutely amazing. It had flower petals in it! We tried each of the cookies and the lemon cookies were the best.

Jade S.

Yelp
The maps was a little confusing while finding this place, but super cute, they got outdoor seating and very friendly staff. I ordered the vegan sausage bacon cheddar sandwich
google avatar

Lindsey O.

Yelp
I had a lovely spicy hibiscus tea here that I'm totally still thinking about and would be excited to go have again. The actual store is soooo cute - I love the decorations and wide variety of offerings in the store, from clothing to decor and products like incense. The service is super friendly, and the vibe is amazing. They were playing Nigerian music and I love so much when I go into a place playing anything but the American music I already hear over an over. I even shazamed the song so I could listen to it again later. I'm certainly looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
After a long 11-mile run in cold temps, my neighbor and I stopped by a spot we both long-neglected for some smoothies, and discovered the greatness of Secret Garden. Hands-down, this is the most comforting cafe I've ever been to. Yes, some of that is due to the size, which is tight-ish but they've made so comfortable and welcoming. As soon as you enter, you are greeted with warm smells of goodness and lush greenery. It connects with your senses on a vibratory level, putting you at ease and ready to order something filling yet light. They've got the aforementioned smoothies, but also organic teas, juices, soups, and vegan food and treats. I especially like the list of zodiac inspired teas. And best of all...they have pie! After ordering my smoothie, I could think of nothing else but those pies (can you tell I like pie?) While I also like the seating area, I equally adore the little touches of holistic health that imbue the store with knowledge of your body and your senses. Man, there's so much to behold at Secret Garden, I feel you could visit 12 times and still discover something new. And I look forward to making that happen.

Yelp
A quaint place for teas, lattes, baked goods, and vegan bites. Solid options that are filling and satisfying. I highly recommend the teas and chai latte. The smoothies, juices, and soup seem slightly overpriced at $10. Also not open in the mornings.
google avatar

Bhavana C.

Yelp
This place is just an oasis - love the vibe and the decor so much. Love all of the different healthy options they have for food and drink. Some of the items are a bit pricey, but everything is super tasty and honestly I feel so zen sitting there that it doesn't matter. Definitely try this place!
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
What an absolute gem!! I went here wanting a healthy lunch and it exceeded all expectations. The enticing storefront smelled of incense and relaxing music greeted me along with bright and mood boosting decor. I ordered the hot chai latte - absolutely delicious and creamy - and the grilled chicken wrap, which was warm and delicious and satisfying and came with a well portioned side salad that was fresh, crunchy and delightful. I loved everything, will come back again and again. Perfect lunch spot for vegans and non-vegans alike!
google avatar

tania s.

Yelp
This place looks lovely, but $4.50 for a standardized coffee in bed stuy is shocking. Granted there is some cinnamon flavor in it, but I cannot justify these prices. Cookies are less expensive but come with the sugar crash, presumably lower quality ingredients.
google avatar

Kneenoshhka G.

Yelp
I've been following this place on IG for awhile now. I am glad that I was in the neighborhood and able to check it out. I'm not a vegan but I love all things food. Yes, I kept it simple - again, I'm not a vegan (lol). I ordered freshly squeezed juice (called Heartbeat: beets, ginger, pineapple, apple, carrots) + a salad (arugula, apples, strawberry, capers, red onions, black sesame seeds + this delicious dressing I didn't catch the ingredients for) If I would've went from my house, the trek would've taken forever BUT it would've been worth it all the same. Only negative was that it says it opened at 11 but it actually open at 1PM (I got there at 12:35 so the wait wasn't that bad since there's seating in front of the establishment + a wealth of info written about the benefits of the vegetables/fruits used in their dishes - as well as menus
google avatar

Yelp
great food and great service! they're a lil loose with the hours so i recommend calling ahead
google avatar

Lauren D.

Yelp
absolutely delicious. we were there on a chilly, drizzly day and had the lentil soup & sat on their cozy outdoor benches. I am not a huge soup person & don't typically find it satisfying enough but this was FULL of flavour and exactly what my wife & I needed to warm up & fill up. I had also been dying to try the hood healer & was not disappointed. food, drinks, vibes on point
google avatar

Anna M.

Yelp
Was walking down the street when I noticed this gem. It is a cute little walk-up with lots of character and great music. I got the "sunshine" juice which was absolutely delicious and walked home. About 2 hours later I came back for lunch and was not disappointed! My boyfriend and I both had the vegan Philly cheesesteak - so good. We also shared the lentil soup - SO! GOOD! And let me also say that the spiced cacao with oat milk was the best coffee I've ever had. Deff will be frequenting this spot and excited to try everything on the menu!
google avatar

Tiffany P.

Yelp
I completely forgot to take pictures of my food. I ordered the bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich with a rosemary lemonade. It was delicious my only gripe is that I wish they put more "bacon" in the sandwich and scale back how much tomato they include. The sandwich came with an arugula salad that I wish was made with mixed greens.
google avatar

Kenya W.

Yelp
Was supposed to meet a date for tea here but I didn't call before and found out once I got here that it's outdoor seating only. Not ideal for a 6:30pm link-up. However, I was early (what's new) so I used the time alone to my advantage: I ordered a "Feel the Heat" fresh squeezed juice, which consists of beets, ginger, apple, cayenne, lime. I also ordered a cacao and oatmeal raisin cookie. It was better than I thought it would be! Because the pastries are in the front window facing the sidewalk, I assumed it'd be a tad hard but was willing to support anyways. To my surprise, it was chewy and yummy! Was only $1.08! If I weren't trying to cut back on sugar, I'd have ordered 5 more. (Cheat day, I suppose, lol). Cheers to this tucked away place that I'd never known existed after all this time of dining in Bed Stuy. Until next time!
google avatar

Jess A.

Yelp
I loveeeee this place. I've almost made it through their whole menu. Their Philly cheesesteaks are my new favorite sandwich. I never had a real meat one so can't compare it. But everything is seriously so tasty!

Bridget H.

Yelp
Vibe is chill & drinks (hot and smoothies) and snackies are always delicious. Such a wonderful place to stop for an afternoon snack.

Yelp
This place is the sweetest thing ever . Me and my friend walked passed and didn't realize it was a actual place until we saw the signs and seen that it was. So we went in and it was something so magical and whimsical . Plants and so many colors and it was just so amazing . They have super cute menus on the wall and it has options for vegans, vegetarians , and pescatarians. I had the BLT which was fully vegan it was delicious and simple and comes with chips or salad I had chips. I also had the ginger tea . Everything was delicious . What I enjoy most about this place is the decor it's just so cute and charming . What I would recommend is that they get vegan desserts. That would be awesome but regardless it was the sweetest place I've been. Will def be visiting again . You have to come here guys it's the best and I believe it's a family business which makes it even more beautiful !

Yelp
So many good reviews for a reason! The food is delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Such an amazing place.
google avatar

Gustav F.

Yelp
A very cozy spot in Bed Stuy to grab some vegan pastries or some great tea. I particularly loved the interior and their zodiac themed tea menu. The owner was very friendly and welcoming.
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
OMG!!! How have I not found this vegan place sooner?!?! I ordered through Uber Eats but wanted to make sure I leave a review! Everything was so fresh and made with love (I could tell!) I ordered the Vegan Chicken Lentil Soup, the Pure Love Smoothie and the Vegan Chicken Salad sandwich. Every bite was better than the last and the smoothie provided the right amount of sweetness the the meal! Next time, I'm going there!!
google avatar

Crystal G.

Yelp
Best vegan sandwich I've ever had and the drink are amazing. Definitely my new local spot.

Jade K.

Yelp
I had the vegan Philly cheesesteak and it was amazing. You really couldn't tell me I wasn't eating chicken. The food was well seasoned and I also had a hot lavender and vanilla bean tea that prepped me for that cheese steak. I gave it a 10 out of 10 and I will be recommending. My mom also had the hot chai latte and it was slammin'!!! do not sleep on this place some real great vegan food at a BK!
google avatar

Izzy D.

Yelp
Wow - just stumbled upon this adorable little cafe for the first time today. You walk in and feel like you've been transported into some sort of Alice in Wonderland fever dream. As I walked up, the person behind the counter peaked their head out from some randomly (but cutely) placed curtains. I got an iced coffee, a coconut roll and a BLT. The BLT is an absolute must for vegans and no vegans alike. Oh yea did I mention it's vegan? Anyway, they have other things for sale besides food like books, hand painted purses, candles, etc. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area and you're looking for a low key, mellow, quiet place to have breakfast or lunch and either catch up with a friend or do some self-dating. I hope this place is around for a long time!
google avatar

Morgen B.

Yelp
I'm so glad I stopped into Secret Garden - I must've passed it many times, its near Peaches and other black owned restaurants I love. The inside is not only cozy and warm but the energy is welcoming - I feel like I'm hanging out in a relative's living room and I say this in the best way possible. There's plants and cushions everywhere, and the music is chill. The folks who work here are really kind and laid back, unlike other vegan cafes I've been to I ordered the vegan BTL which was really good and tasted fresh. I also got a smoothie, which was probably my favorite, I wish I could remember which one it was. I'll definitely be referring my friends to this spot and I'm hoping to be back soon.
google avatar

Sinéad G.

Yelp
So glad my friend and I happen to come across Secret Garden. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxing and cozy. The food was delicious! I ordered the Curry Chicken sandwich while my friend ordered the BLT. I haven't really tried many Vegan dishes and this place has set the bar high! I would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Maia W.

Yelp
Yummmmm is all I can say. Had planned to get pizza across the street, but they were closed. Picked the Vegan Curry Chicken and Cucumber Sandwich from Secret Garden instead and it was so good! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Heidi S.

Yelp
Love love love this vegan place in the heart of bed stuy...4 days later and I'm STILL thinking about the vegan chicken curry sandwich. Will be going here OFTEN.
google avatar

Paloma O.

Yelp
Very delicious and refreshing garden salad in a strawberry vinaigrette. This is on the current menu. I also ordered the forbidden love smoothie, so tasty. It's small spot but very cute and relaxing! I love the decor and vibe
google avatar

Brianna G.

Yelp
Exceptional service, food, ambiance, tea, cookies.. I could go on. Relaxing and fresh ambiance. Reasonably priced and carefully created dishes of high quality food. The chlorophyll water is amazing and the salad is my favorite.

Yelp
Delicious Curry-Chicken Sandwich and a Chocolate Babka

Yelp
I just moved into the area, and I feel like i hit the jackpot. This adorable place makes an amazing honey ginger matcha iced tea that cooled me right down during this heat wave. So worth it.
google avatar

Ja'Nae W.

Yelp
I stopped by Sat. For brunch. I asked the girl what time they were open she stated 11am. It was 10:50am at the time so I decided to wait. 11:30am they still weren't open. Poor customer service on their part.

Katie M.

Yelp
Amazing vegan gem in Brooklyn. This place has the BEST sandwiches especially the curry-chicken (perfect amounth of spice). Salads are super fresh and vibrant. I could eat here every day honestly
google avatar

Tabytha B.

Yelp
Their smoothies are delicious, the atmosphere is Mother Earth. I need to spend more time in this space
