I have not written my review but I am enamored with Secret Island so I am thinking that this review will be more a love letter to Secret Island and the ode begins with the following statement: Secret Island is a treasure for the fun-seeking, it is an oasis for the beat-from-work-crowd, and, in a nut shell, it is an Island that promises pleasure, I guarantee. And I cannot forget the crown jewel of the hidden treasure that is Secret Island--- Its premiere bar tender: Josh. He is an Angel sent from service Heaven, a good place where Mother Teresa Resides, as well, as effective educators and brave firefighters who fight flames in the name of protecting the innocent.
I have a friend that is like a sibling, her name is Monica and she is like the sidekick to my acts of heroisms. I will christen her the Silent Boom: Her value is felt in moments of dignified kabooms that happened seldomly but when they do, cover your ears and un-shield your heart. That was suppose to be her tagline, like able to jump tall buildings is for Superman. This whole super hero tangent was to fully illuminate her importance in her life. So when we were meant to celebrate her day of birth we went to Secret Island cause it was touted and spotlight by several IG reels.
She and I went. Secret Island its not much of a Secret, if you know is there, you know is there. If yo want to find it just google it, you do not need a special password or item to enter its halls.
You walk some stairs to go get there. They are label with arrows. One side for up, the other side for down. Small details matter.
When you are finding your way there you pass this baby rain forest restaurant like motif. It is a baby jungle that wakes in a cycle. People try to catch a video of the small thunderstorm in a Bali forest. I saw it. Thought it was cool, but did not stand to gawk.
Monica and I sat at the bar. The universe blessed us with Josh's attention. I informed various people through out the night that we were celebrating my gorgeous friend's birthday. When I told Josh, he clapped and said yay! He clapped and say yay in a sincere way that made me feel like damn, this guy cares and he is amping up the party vibe. He is like this bartender that was delivered to us from the movies. His energy, his humor, his energy (and I know I wrote that word twice), was uplifting and above all made us feel seen and special.
I told him that I like my drinks sweet- super sweet. I told him and he gave me a Pain Killer, not like Vicodin, that was the name of the drink. I tasted it--- ugh-- I like sweeter. Josh to the rescue. He concocted a drink, a drink with no name. And it was so good- that I just tingled with nostalgia. It was dreamy in its state, and it had this amazing after taste that I long for if I am going to call something GLORIOUS and worthy of praise from king and knave alike. Seriously, it was heaven sent. I asked Josh the name, he explained that it had none. I suggested Josh's Kiss and he agreed.
I wanted to stop the manager or owner of the spot to let them know that what Josh concocted was worthy of becoming a staple in their drink menu. But alas might chance did not come. After Monica's birthday, I went on another night. Josh was there. Josh did the drink again-- it was a great delight but it was not the same as the first night when I had it. Grrrr. I hope that they make Josh's Kiss a consistent drink offering that way people can feel the delight all the time.
There was a manager there that read female to me. She was wearing all black the night when we went to celebrate Monica's birthday. She was wearing all black while all the other people had Hawaiian stuff on and were feeling themselves. She seemed more like the buzzkill of the night. I guess in a place where fun is suppose to reign someone needs to be void of fun, in case a situation demands for it. You know like someone needs to be a designated driver and someone has to police the tiki bar so the shenanigans do not go over board, I guess that is her role for the night. Or more accurately the role I casted her in.
There is music. There is food. There is people. Go! You'll like it. And say hey to Josh for me!
