"This hidden sandwich shop in Notting Hill hasn’t got much space for loitering. There are black, plastic booths (no cushions so don’t get too comfy), and there’s really no reason for anyone to stay for long after they’ve finished their sandwich. The sandwiches are, however, hefty enough that you could stretch a lunch here to 35/40 minutes. Perfectly formed blocks of Tokyo milk bread hold the perfect ratio of filling—whether that’s tuna, mayo, and lettuce, or the T.L.T (turkey, lettuce, tomato). Plus there are fun toppings like bacon crumb or crispy shallots that you can add as well. Our favourite combination is the tuna mayo with salt and vinegar McCoys crisps." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak
"The Japanese-influenced sandwiches at this Notting Hill cafe are served in aesthetically pleasing, perfectly formed blocks of Tokyo milk bread, with the perfect ratio of filling—whether that’s tuna, mayo, and lettuce, or the TLT (turkey, lettuce, tomato). There are fun toppings like bacon crumb or crispy shallots that you can add as well. Our favourite combination is the tuna mayo with salt and vinegar McCoy’s crisps crushed up inside it." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"Secret Sandwich Shop has black plastic booths that encourage efficiency, and hefty sandwiches that will make you inefficient for the rest of the day. They’re aesthetically pleasing, perfectly formed blocks, with the correct ratio of filling. There are fun toppings like fried eggs and kewpie mayo, and you can add McCoys salt and vinegar crisps to your order. It’s one of the best lunch options in the area, and one of the best sandwich spots in London." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"If you have ever frequented the reduced section of Tesco circa 9pm, you’ll probably notice a sad little selection of egg and cress sandwiches covered in yellow stickers. The egg sandwich is often overlooked but not at this Japanese-influenced spot in Notting Hill. Its enormous egg salad sandwich is both a feat of engineering and a testament to the eye-watering effects of dijon mustard. The wedge of thick toasted bread holds that gooey egg yolk in check and the addition of Kewpie mayo is a fun touch." - heidi lauth beasley
"Secret Sandwich Shop in Notting Hill is an advocate for the classics. This handful is filled with generous layers of pork, sage and onion stuffing, sliced turkey, red cabbage, cranberry sauce, crispy shallots, and kewpie mayo on rye." - jake missing
