Seisoka

"The name of the restaurant means ‘space surrounded by green plants’, and indeed Seisoka exudes a serene atmosphere, surrounded by the trees and shrubs of the Tengenji temple precincts. The name was inspired by a calligraphed tablet by Rosanjin Kitaoji (1883–1959) that adorns the wall. The cuisine is redolent with the spirit of chakaiseki (tea ceremony cuisine), while always evolving; for example, in summer tomato surinagashi appears in cocktails." - Michelin Inspector

We dine in a private room and the staff don't close the door although we asked for multiple times, the serving staff keep bumping into our chair when he passes. They dropped source on our table and knocked our drink glasses withput any apology. The staff refused to explain the food in English and we never saw chef. The food was not served the same time and during our eating, multiple staff pop into the room to check if we finished the dish and that made us extremely uncomfortable The room temperature is too hot. The food is very average and the presentation is terrible. We found very often for the same dish food are presented slightly different which is not accept for a high end restaurant. We also found water marks on plates. We can not select sake and were told that we can only do drink pairing or no drink. The restaurant doesn't accept American Express although American Express made booking for us. This is the WORST michelin star restaurant we have dined ever! It certainly not worth the US$300+ per person!

This was a lovely meal. Simple food, but all very nice. Knocking one star off as it is over priced for what it is. There is nothing exceptional here that you would expect for the price.

This place lives upto its name. It's a hidden gem. Culinary delights combine elegantly with Japanese heritage pottery / crockery. Everything is authentically sourced , not just the ingredients here matter but also the plate you are eating on. It contributes to the whole meal and experience. Highly reccomend.

Incredible Kaiseki with a very passionate chef who has an incredible collection of vintage sake cups...It’s a bit hard to find but well worth the effort

Yelp
The experience itself didn't really seem worthy of 2 Michelin stars, but the food was definitely fantastic. Fig with sesame paste: the sesame taste was absolutely delicious. It was unlike any sesame paste I've had before! One of my favorites White fish and tofu stew: the tofu was incredible. So custardy that it melts in your mouth. The fish was pretty good. Anago with roe: I personally don't really like anago, so I thought this course was just okay. The main course: there was a lot going on here. There was vinegar fish, edamame, tofu paste, pumpkin, potato, abalone, corn, gingko nuts, seared fish, and seaweed fish ball. The seaweed fish ball was my favorite. My least favorite was the sauteed fish. The flavor was a bit too strong for me. Eggplant with yuzu miso paste: the miso paste was so good. It complemented the eggplant well Zosui with pickled veggies: pretty average course. I don't think it's supposed to be a highlight, but more of a transition course to dessert Red bean jelly and matcha: matcha was very strong and delicious. It went well with the red bean jelly Sencha: self explanatory. Great way to finish the meal The premises seem very barebones. The wall was scuffed up where we were eating. Seemed kind of odd for a 2* Michelin restaurant, but that's okay. I'm all about the food anyways!
