"How did it strike you on arrival?Minimal and modern, Hotel Americano almost feels like an extension of the contemporary art galleries finds itself surrounded by, with its vaguely industrial feel. What’s the crowd like?Fittingly, its an art-world (and art-fan) favorite, considering its location in the heart of Chelsea's gallery district. Most importantly: Tell us about your room.Rooms here could be described as American versions of a Japanese ryokan. Minimalist, functional, and beautiful, with polished concrete floors and modern lighting. There's nothing extraneous, just the necessities, done extremely well. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The mattress is set on a wooden platform—simple and comfortable. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth a mention? You'll find it's hard not to stuff the stylish, soft denim robes into your bag. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The marble clad bathroom is attractive, though it's small and lacks counter space. The Aesop products almost make up for it, though. We all need some good Wi-Fi now. What’s the word on that?Strong, free Wi-Fi. Anything stand out about other services and features? The 14th-floor rooftop bar is a must during a stay here, for incredible city views. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The clean, crisp design is very emblematic of the neighborhood and compliments visits to the local blue chip galleries. Bottom line: worth it, and why?You should be a fan of minimalism if you book a room here. That being said, visitors won't want for much, with a very cool place to sleep, great food to eat, and all of Chelsea and the High Line at your doorstep." - John Wogan

Cons: The rooms were quite small and the bedding was a bit low quality for any type of proper hotel. Maybe the other weak point was the food was generally awful. ||Pros: That hotel is pretty and the spaces are pretty. The location is great for exploring the area, the staff are friendly and the rooftop bar is accommodating and the drinks are fair priced. ||It was not a bad budget ish way to see NY but the hotel vibe made the spot not feel super Selina ish and the cheap bedding seemed a bit too much to make me think about staying again.

Kiko was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Always a friendly smile and hello. We had a special request to use the freezer for some goods we had with us, and it wasn’t the slightest problem showing us the area to use. Martin was also very friendly and vibrant. We had a great conversation as we waited for the elevator one late night when we came in. This spot is in a great location for getting around manhattan easily. The skyline walkway is right there and takes you to the Chelsea market, and all up and down the west side.

This place is average on net. Positive: good location, good food and friendly staff. Negative: so dirty. The mattress is on a wood panel and the wood panel is so dirty and sticky. I don’t even want to think what those sticky stains are. The room/elevator also smells. A lot of air freshener trying to mask some other smell. Also I was told by the front staff if I parked at MPG garage, I got 30 percent off. I even asked her to type in to my Waze to make sure. The next day, neither the new staff member nor the garage admits there is a discount. Parking is 90$ a day there. So 30 percent matters. I wish the staff can inform the guests consistently about the parking discount. Other than that, good location. Reasonable price. But the room is dirty. And the table is too low to get any work done on my computer.

Had an amazing stay at the Selina Chelsea, the highlight of which was absolutely Martin, the nighttime manager! We arrived at five in the morning after a long night on the bus, borderline delirious, and he welcomed us SO warmly, was super helpful checking us in, and started our trip off great :) Every night that we were out we would be excited to come back and chat with Martin and tell him about our adventures. The hotel itself is in a great location, right next to the highline, 10 minutes from the closest subway, and close to the water. The rooms are pretty bare-bones (no fridge or closet) but do the trick, and there's a rooftop terrace and bar downstairs. Would recommend - also make sure to say hi to Martin :)

Anne Hathaway did not spit in my food.

Google
Nice lobby, plus the only semi-public restroom at ground level for local gallery visitors. This one has an Annie "St. Vincent" Clark in it! I wonder who put that there? Someone please let me know if she sees it one day. Not sure about the rooms, but in my experience, hotels are just as iffy as other businesses.

Google
Can't beat this location and convenience! It is a small room, but fantastic for solo travel on the go, and the option to meet up with friends on the rooftop bar was appreciated. Hotel was clean and cleaning team were on top of things. The staff was incredibly accommodating and helpful; Martin, in particular, made me feel right at home and put in effort to meet all of my needs. I will be back here.

Disappointing Stay If you're looking for a spot in the middle of Chelsea for easy exploring, Selina Chelsea might seem like a good bet. But once you step inside, things go downhill pretty fast. As you approach the reception desk, you're met with a wall of silence. The staff don't even bother to mutter a simple "hello" or "welcome." It's like they've taken a vow of silence, but forgot to tell the guests. First off, forget about comfy carpets here. The floors are bare, which makes everything feel chilly and messy. And they don't even give you slippers to make up for it. The bathtub? Gross. Not exactly what you want when you're trying to relax. Noise is a big problem too. You can hear everything – your neighbours chatting, people outside your door, even loud music from the rooftop. Not exactly peaceful. And let's talk about the staff. The folks at reception? Not friendly at all. They seem like they'd rather be anywhere else. But props to the housekeeping crew – they're nice. Overall, Selina might look fancy in pictures, but in reality, it's just a disappointing, low-budget place with bad service. Save your money and find somewhere else to stay.

Google
I never rate hotel rooms but I'm going to rate this one. I had a bad customer service experience across multiple employees. Also, the glass wall bathroom/shower might be fun but it's weird for a friend's weekend trip: Chapter 1 - I prepaid online and the website froze while confirming my card. I refreshed and submitted again and then realized I had two charges for $1300 from them (I was staying there for 4 days). I called their customer service immediately (which was outsourced) and said they wouldn't offer me a cancellation refund for the duplicate booking. I finally got my money back thanks to my MasterCard team and no thanks to the Chelsea Customer Service. Chapter 2 - When I checked into the hotel (in Chelsea), the person asked for my credit card, which I assumed was for incidentals or confirmation purposes. Instead, they handed me a reciept for an ADDITIONAL $1200. I told them that I already paid online and they proceeded to argue with me for the next 10 minutes that what I paid was just a reservation deposit. I finally got the manager in the room and after re-explaining the situation was able to confirm that I had, indeed, paid for the room already. The manager upgraded me to a king size bed as an apology. Chapter 3 - Later the same night, after getting into my room and starting to drift to sleep (about 12:15am), I heard a door latch open. I assumed it was my travel partner getting up to use the bathroom. Then I heard my partner say "NO" and I sat up to see that another guest, with suitcase in hand, was entering the room with the key card they'd been given. Had we been out late that night, that guest would have had access to my computer and all my belongings. Chapter 4 - I went down in the morning to inform the front desk of the problem the night before and they said "it doesn't happen very often but when it does, it's very embarrassing". I went back up to my room and found out that my key cards had been deactivated. I went back down and they re-programmed them and gave me two free drink tickets to the club in the basement. Chapter 5 - I went to redeem my drink tickets and the bartender didn't know how to make a Manhattan.

Yelp
I came here for a shared workspace experience ($10 for the work day on ResortPass), not as a hotel guest. It was reasonably quiet for a hotel lobby. The cute outdoor decorations and seating were changed, possibly because they are seasonal. The staff were cordial. There is plenty of seating as the space indoors is mostly allocated to a restaurant that did not have many customers after lunch. I found an outlet near the piano for my charging needs. It was clean, had cool deco, including the library area, and did the job.

Yelp
This hotel is in a good location, close to the highline, close to Chelsea market. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly. It's a boutique hotel so it's not like a traditional hotel, there is no ice machine, which drove me crazy so every time I wanted a glass of ice, I had to go down to the bar and get it. The rooftop bar was nice - good view of the Empire State building. The reason I did not like this hotel and I will not be going back is the beds are just the mattress with no boxspring, no frame, just on a wooden floor. I get that it's minimalist, but it was very hard for me to get up off of the mattress and on one morning was trying to literally crawl off the mattress and my foot slipped on the floor and I kind of threw my hip out and couldn't walk for any of our sightseeing for the day. Kinda ruined our whole visit. Good place for the younger crowd.

Yelp
Stayed one night and never again. I truly can't believe the price point ($492 per night) for this "4-star" hotel. The Selina is a 5-star hostel. Our room was small (expected) and damp, you could see the discoloration (black mold?) on the ceiling where the vent blew out cold, damp air. My nose instantly stopped up. The halls were dark and uninviting and the decor and throw pillows in the rooms were very low quality. The room was dated, and the cement floor was cold which added to the worn budget-motel feel. However, the bathroom was clean and the common areas in the hotel were what is expected from a 4 star boutique hotel in NYC. The best part about the Selina is the friendliness of the staff (5 Star!) and the dazzling rooftop bar/restaurant with awesome views!

Yelp
I made a reservation for this weekend and paid in full. They sent an email that they are canceling all reservations due to a "management change" and don't know when they will refund us. Their phone lines all say there are no representatives available. None of my emails to their reservation service or their help form have been responded to. I am now out $950. This is a horrible customer experience and it looks like others have also experienced what I am based on comments below.

Yelp
Hotel hosted a private party in the basement bar the night we were there and it spilled out into the street at 3am, right under our 3rd floor window. We could not sleep and decided to leave (we live in NYC) rather than suffer through until dawn. We informed the front desk and, to be fair, they did offer to move us to a room at the back of the hotel, but by then the damage had been done (we were awake). You would think the hotel would manage their front porch area better than this, for guests who are not staying up ALL night. Otherwise, fine, though mezcal shots were $20 each (high, even for NYC) and the kitchen closed at 9am (way too early). Side note: the bartender at the main floor bar was a good guy - he gets 5 stars in an otherwise sleepless evening!

Parisa P.

Yelp
The room looks like a prison cells. I don't know how this is rated as a 4 star hotel. Service at the front desk is also terrible. Awful. Don't stay here

Joannie B.

Yelp
Came here for a pulsd with my friend, the main floor is beautiful decorated. The rooftop is ok, it looks drab and sad, I like the ferns hanging and the decor by the bar in the cut. The hotel across has a futuristic feel to it. The rooftop has potential and I don't know why it doesn't see much foot traffic. I see IG post of parties but when I went it was dead and the decor doesn't match the post. I wonder if I went to the right place From the pulsd I ordered the fried pork belly it was ok but needed a Lil salt and pepper maybe a Lil flavor. And my friend ordered the potatoes which, at the time we didn't know that they were; we thought they were plantains. The bathroom is tiny and accommodate only one person. The area looks cool to hang out in. The waitress and man that greeted me were very nice. Rosè is pretty good.

Lorena R.

Yelp
I reserved and made me pay because otherwise, they will cancel the reservation. Now they cancelled and they "don't know when are they able to return my money" don't reserve, they will steal your money.

Yelp
Discount hotel that offers just enough for the minimalist traveler, but nicer than a hostel or motel. There was a $25 (per room? Per person? Unsure) mandatory resort fee, but that's pretty standard at hotels now, unfortunately. Stayed in a standard mini, which is perfect for up to two people if you're only in town for a few days. It was a cute space, and the common areas were actually very cute. They had tango lessons or something that night, and gave us a free ticket for two welcome drinks (house wine, beer, or soft drink). Service was pretty friendly, though I didn't interact with the front desk or bartenders much. They even let us check in a few hours early, which was awesome! Bed was surprisingly comfortable, so if you like firm beds, this is a good choice. However, two things: 1. There was a small very curly hair on the "clean" hand towel in the bathroom. My husband and I have straight hair. 2. The window felt like it was nonexistent. I heard everything, including the hotel's (I think?) Latin music, which didn't stop playing until 6am. Like, wtf? Why blast music all night long??? And there was construction nearby, so that was also a fun thing to wake up to. They left a pair of ear plugs in the bathroom, so please be aware--you will 1000% need them.

Yelp
Nice hotel - a bit small but works for NYC if you are a single traveler or a couple with light luggage. The hotel is clean and modern with a very cool lounge atmosphere. I was there in September for fashion week and it was very busy. There are night events where the lineup outside on the street can get loud after midnight to get into the rooftop party, which you can hear into your room. Again, great for single travelers or business people who just need a good safe clean hotel with very lovely staff. I would stay there again as it fits within my budget and offers what I need when I come into NYC, Manhattan.

Brian G.

Yelp
OK at best. Your front Desk staff could not be any more dismissive and unfriendly. Like they were doing us a favor. We understand you're trendy and cool., We get it. We don't care. Sometimes we just wanna really nice hotel to stay at. The club on the roof was loud as hell. You could hear it from the first floor, Elevator shaft in your room. I do not recommend staying there while the club is open. It's very nice that you offer yoga and other things on the roof. But it would be nice for a guest to come down in the morning and get coffee without being run over by Lululemon and their mats. By the way, answer the damn phone when we call the front desk. You suck at that. The pricing was OK at best. No great bargain. The room is extremely small. And offers you to sleep on the floor. Good luck with all that.

Ruby S.

Yelp
This review is for The Rooftop at Selina Chelsea; not the hotel or their first floor bar. My friend and I visited last night and it was such a treat! The ambiance and view are fun; with a direct view of the Empire State Building. They've got their holiday drink menu out, so the coquito is a MUST. It was fire. They've got small bites and delicious churros. Honestly, such a great view and fun time. The bartender was funny and friendly, though I did not catch his name.

Wesley K.

Yelp
Was visiting a friend and saw the lobby decor. Not bad, but the room quality is very different. Feels like the hotel prioritizes an outside perception of the hotel rather than what guests actually experience. As a visitor, I used the outside perception of the hotel to make my review as I did not stay there. Modern and fresh with very nice views from Chelsea.

Joe B.

Yelp
Price point = good, vibe = great, decor = cool, but I have to admit the "capabilities" and just the way the setup is off and ultimately confusing for guests. For example upon check-in we had to fill out a bunch of paperwork with personal information we already provided online as opposed to just checking in with a drivers license. When we got our room key (707) we attempted to unlock the door 3x and no luck. Came back down and the receptionist gave us another key for the same room, and the same issue occurred...this happened 2x more times and then the last time she rewrote the room number on the card differently than it was programmed so we had to get a new room entirely (this is taking so much time!!!!) we had to re-register for a new room, and they take/took more hold $$ on the card than normal, odd. We finally get into the room, walls are thin, you can hear a lot - but the vibe is cool. Frameless bed makes it hard for adults to sleep (small full bed) is tight and we were very sore the next morning. You can hear the club fights outside too- screaming, crying, etc. but I think what upset me the most was we got a coupon from management for a free drink at the lobby bar! Which we presented when we ordered a jack and coke and a gin and tonic. Not until we closed our tab was it stated that the coupon was for a "specialty drink" of the day which was a hot toddy. I'd come back for convenience but only for a quick stay!

Yelp
Just had a perfect weekend in NYC and truly enjoyed staying at the Selina Chelsea. No big frills but very clean, practical and charming room, and extremely friendly service. Thanks for Veronika and Tricia for making us feel at home!

Cade Z.

Yelp
Bought tickets to their halloween event. Initially the downstairs Staff checked us in through the wrong line so we had to line up again. However, after that we had a good time. Strong drinks but the rooftop views are only accessible if you reserve a table.

Jenny L.

Yelp
Disappointed to not receive the quality I expected for the price I paid. I feel like the price is only for the convenience of location but lacked greatly as far as "hotel" amenities and ambiance. Similarly to a lot of the other reviews, I agree that for the price point of this hotel, I did expect better. Walking in, it seemed more like a coworking spot or casual bar. The reception was right behind the bar, with a small area separating the two. In that area, there were some small travel items/tchotchkes you could buy and next to the reception desk was an open merchandiser where you could also purchase drinks. Not quite the feel I would expect from a $200+/night hotel....but maybe the standards are different for NYC. The location is convenient - close to High Line and other Chelsea eateries. It's about a 10-minute walk from Penn Station. I was staying by myself and booked a Double Standard. There were two waters in the room so that was nice. The room itself was alright but I feel like it would be pretty crowded with 2 people and luggage. I was a little disappointed since pictures showed a bathroom with a tub but I only got a standing shower. As others have stated, there was definitely a noise issue - both from the street and the hotel. At one point in the night, a group of girls came back with one talking obnoxiously loud and I'm not sure if they left their room door open or they were still talking that loud - but I could still hear her. And apparently so could others because somebody else yelled at her to shut up and a short screaming match started up. All I can say is I know I can pay what I paid here at other hotels and 100% expect better patrons....this hotel doesn't really feel like a "hotel" despite what they are advertising. The other huge letdown, which contributes greatly to my 3-star rating, is that I had a charge on my credit card that was unexplained. When I checked in, the person asked for my credit card for what I assumed was a deposit (they didn't say it would be charged - they just said they needed credit card and ID) and when I checked out, they didn't tell me I had any additional charges. But the amount charged on my credit card was an odd amount for a deposit, and it wasn't refunded afterwards or didn't show that it was a hold - just a straight charge. So I had to call to inquire and only found out then that apparently it's a resort charge that is mandatory for hotels in New York. But even the person that answered wasn't sure and had to put me on hold to check with another person as to what the hold is - a little weird to not automatically know your policy. For what they charge, I'm sure there are other accommodations that can provide more of what you expect for the price point.

Michelle C.

Yelp
Overpriced due to lack of amenities combined with lackluster customer service. Two stars for a decent shower and comfortable bed (note it's on the soft side). The hotel seems to have undergone a renovation in the last couple of years, and card access is used for the room, but the deadbolt did not work. The lobby was your typical trendy midcentury furniture with greenery type setting. Upon exiting the elevator on my floor, I was greeted with dim lighting, hallways and doors painted a dark grey/almost black, no wall art for contrast, and stepped onto gray carpeting with various dark stains. Images of that recent Netflix documentary on the Cecil Hotel came to mind as I walked to my room. Other than one associate who was working the front desk on a late Sunday afternoon, all of the other front desk staff I interacted with during my stay was what I characterize as millennial aloof. I'm a millennial too, and try not to fall in this bucket. What is millennial aloof? Think Stevie from Schitt's Creek, season 1, but a couple of notches lower. Three examples: If you book through a travel site, the confirmation indicates there were slippers as an amenity. When I asked the front desk staff on the day of check-in whether there were slippers as the confirmation said there was, the front desk staff gave me a puzzled look and replied that they do not offer slippers. A couple of ways to improve this experience would have been to apologize for the inconvenience, offer to work with the site to have that information updated (at least lip service), or suggest a convenience store nearby. In another instance, when asking about the deadbolt for my room, the front desk staff (different guy from check-in guy) gave me a puzzled look and said that the deadbolts are not used. Not certain if that is really accurate or not, or technically legal, but since the card access seemed to work fine, I opted to not dwell on this too much. Again, it would have been helpful to provide some assurance or background that the deadbolt was no longer in use because of a renovation or some kind of reassurance that regulatory codes do not require it, etc. Upon check-out, I asked about whether there was an option to leave my luggage for a couple of hours, which is a common amenity available for most lodging in its price category. By this point, I had a feeling this may be an issue. The staff briskly apologized and said that there was a big party checking in today and so there were no spaces. Once again, the experience could have been improved by simply offering an alternative such as stowing luggage at the train station, but the overall exchange felt aloof. Aloof customer service - it's just not a good look. If you see my other reviews - a two-star review is rare from me. However, this experience needed to be shared for transparency. Even though there are many travel sites with gram-worthy, professional photos and no shortage of reviews, somehow after doing a reasonable level of research, we still encounter unfortunate surprises. I do not expect to return and do not recommend to others unless significant changes are implemented.

Yelp
The rooftop restaurant has amazing views and great food selections and music. Will recommend!! Worth the visit

Steve H.

Yelp
I give it 2 stars because it's clean. there are too many downsides. 1. I discovered when I registered that there is a mandatory $50 resort fee. Resort? It offers free parking (but who has a car in NYC?). And they don't charge you for going to brunch. Oh, but they do charge you for ordering any food for brunch; they just don't charge you for going. 2. The room is tiny--claustrophobic. 3. There is zero privacy between the shower and the rest of the room. 4. The TV is tiny and doesn't offer internet channels. 5. No hot water for the shower, possibly because I was on the 9th floor. Maybe that's a good thing, because the shower curtain is too short, so a shower of any length would flood the floor. And the direction of the shower head is not adjustable. 6. There is no surface in the bathroom to put toiletries except a 5-inch shelf, too narrow for some of my items. Well, I guess you could use the toilet cover.

Sandy C.

Yelp
This is a use of hip pictures and a roof bar to sell you on a wildly uncomfortable, absurdly loud and not very nice at all hotel. Oh and an "amenity" fee for NO AMENITIES. No gym etc. crappy beds on the floor - just stay away.

N W.

Yelp
Second stay at Selina and 100% our LAST stay. Our team stayed here for 5 nights for a trade show event nearby. First night there was no hot water. Which, dare I say, is the least a hotel can provide?! The staff continued to gaslight us and state that the hot water was "just recently fixed" or "it'll work if you let the water run for 30 minutes." after inquiring/complaining. Tried running the water for an hour and nothing, and actually brown water instead of clear (see video below) kept coming out of the sink. After not having hot water from 4pm until 7am the next day, I tried once again in the morning and the shower head blew off my shower from so much pressure in the pipes--and STILL no hot water. Also, at this point the toilets didn't flush. I asked the staff (newly arrived after a shift change) if they had called the plumber yet and she knew nothing of the hot water situation that the entire hotel had been experiencing. As a solution to the broken shower head, she went to another room to unscrew a shower head for me but ironically that room was given to another friend of ours checking-in that day. What a way to relay one problem to another. Hot water eventually came back hours later but we had to make a firm (and somewhat aggressive) request for compensation. I'll be honest I feel bad for the staff, as they are just as human as we all are and managing what they can. But it doesn't mean that Selina shouldn't be held accountable as a hospitality company for their lack of basic training and protocol in case of emergency scenarios like this. You can tell that (some) of the staff are well-meaning, but ultimately poorly trained and told to divert complaints rather than resolve them with compensation or communication with maintenance of any sort. Completely understand this isn't a 5 star hotel, but the basics are barely covered at this place. I should have heeded previous reviews, so if you are reading this, HEED MY REVIEW and stay elsewhere. The convenient location means nothing when you can't flush your toilet and you get a shoulder shrug as your response.

Catalina M.

Yelp
It's great location if you plan to be easily downtown, it's beyond close to the high line so it's easy to navigate. It had a minimalist design to it, so cute! The staff are so friendly At first we had the room 33 on the 3rd floor, and after being there for a while the ac stop working, so we went to the front desk and a lovely gentleman, Mark, moved us to the 6th floor without hesitation. I personally recommend it!

Emma C.

Yelp
Really overpriced for what was essentially a motel. Room didn't even have cups, tissues, water, any hotel info. Had to walk down the street to a bodega just for a cup of hot water. Bathroom was cramped, cheap toiletries, see-through walls. We got a suite but couldn't even take advantage of the couch because it was covered in smudges/stains. Pros: really cool rooftop bar, comfortable bed, nice tv. Skip this place.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Scummy hotel chain thatll steal your money. Rented a room here, showed up and was told me and my 9 year old couldn't swim in the pool due to it being a private event. We were a little disappointed that no one warned us ahead of time or put it on the website. We checked out to go stay at the Dominick (with a pool, beautiful & great customer service) they said they would refund me and it was no problem. 17 days later and I have still not received a refund or had anyone take me seriously. I kept getting "it's been escalated to management". This place is SCUM.

C B.

Yelp
Stopped into this hotel lobby to grab drinks with friends before a show. We ordered six drinks in total, all of them martinis, and they charged 180 dollars. I've had drinks all over New York City and never have I seen a place charging 30 dollars per drink for really standard and not even top shelf quality martinis. Do not stop in here unless you want to be gouged. And from the other reviews I've read on here, sounds like they overcharge for crappy hotel rooms too.

Emma F.

Yelp
Wish I could give no stars. Bought a deal on Pulsd, which they acknowledged. Advertised two free drinks, two free appetizers. We were not spoken to by any of the staff when we arrived - we had to find someone to help us. We didn't get any service for far too long. Ordered food, they closed the kitchen 45 mins after we ordered and did not make the food we ordered. Drinks were straight tequila which I would've liked if I was a college student but I paid for food and drinks. Not 2 glasses of tequila. Would not recommend - the staff gives 0 sh*ts about as semblance of good service. Didn't get my money back either. Waste of time.

Yelp
This place is unique to share, good vibe, energy and city view. The staff very friendly, spacious and fresh..my new place

Yelp
Staff was friendly and accommodating! They had just opened the pool upstairs and it was a great vibe. Downstairs they had a projector set up to watch the Euro final. Room was clean and unique. Location is just a few blocks from Chelsea market. Would stay again for sure.

Yelp
I would give the hotel a 3 star rating if it wasn't for the staff. They were always nice and super helpful. One staff member in particular went out of his way to make sure my stay was pleasant including assisting me in changing my reservation over the phone. When I arrived at the hotel I was really excited that I got to thank Adam in person. He remembered our exchanges and provided an awesome welcome to a tired traveler who had just had a 3 hour train ride and a bit of a walk around the city. Upon check out he asked if I needed to leave a bag so I can explore the city before my trip back home. I thanked him and went on my way. The hotel might not be suited for an older traveler, mattress on a raised plank, lots of buttons ankle height to reach from said bed, and only a wooden school chair for sitting, but with the rooftop bar and pleasant staff, I will have fond memories.

Yelp
I have never written a review before but this place really inspired me to do it for the first time. I payed a high price for the "suite", but it feels like I over payed for a miserable motel room. The room was nothing like the pictures. Nothing seemed to work, I couldn't even open the window curtains and the phone to call the main desk did not work. The bathroom was horrible with see through walls and small tub. Bad service and bad lighting everywhere.

Yelp
Please don't stay here it is NOT luxury and is not 4-star hotel. The walls in my room were dirty and there was trash on the floor. I noticed the filty floor because that is where the mattress sat. I also did not have hot water for 1.5 days of the 3-day stay. My room was on the 9th floor and the elevator went out twice. For some reason my keypads to get in my room did not work and I had to update them twice. Although they continue to advertise the rooftop it is not open and hasn't been for awhile. This place is overpriced and has lackluster customer service.

Yelp
I stayed here about 2 weeks ago and had such a wonderful visit! My best friend and I had stayed here previously in August and came back for round two and was not disappointed. Their staff is helpful and kind, especially Martin who truly went above and beyond for us! He was very professional, helpful and accommodating. The location of this hotel is perfect and sits right below the High Line so it's perfect for a scenic walk or morning jog. The bar at this hotel is awesome and makes amazing drinks! The rooms are cute and cozy! We will definitely be back. Thank you Selina Chelsea!

Yelp
I think I want my money back. Booked this based on some decent reviews but those must have been plants. Good location near where I needed to be. Right below the High Line Park and close to Chelsea Market, Penn Station. That was the good. The bad? If you need to work in the room forget about it. VERY small, very dark. For some reason I was given a room with a broken light that they decided to fix AFTER my arrival- which never did get fixed by the way. Tried to find some space to take a biz call but the lobby had too much thumping base. Minimal toiletries. Unless you only need a place to sleep there are many other better options at better prices no doubt. Extremely disappointed.

Yelp
Hotel was great. Staff was very attentive. Rooms were clean and cleaned daily. Excellent rooftop and patio restaurant. There is an unadvertised comedy club in the basement.

Yelp
I've capitalised the main topics so you can quickly see the positives and negatives of Selina Chelsea (Formerly Hotel Americano). PROS: THE ROOM was very nice and modern, cost about $185 for the night which I felt wasn't an incredible deal but wasn't ridiculously overpriced either. We stayed in the Superior Downtown King. Really nice floor-to-ceiling windows + blinds, stylish but kinda tacky feeling lights and a TV straight outta 2012. THE LOBBY is well-furnished and there's a bar. We didn't check the menu so can't comment on the price or quality, but there were a fair few people there during the day so it can't be awful. Friendly check-in service. Decent SHOWER water pressure and a funny semi-transparent glass divider between the shower and the bedroom which I enjoyed watching my girlfriend through. No bath unfortunately. CONS: They really DIDN'T SEEM PREPARED at all. Upon arrival, we received our room key, and upon opening the room we found it still completely full of clothes, shoes, and an unmade bed, like guests were still there! Luckily we didn't walk in on anybody, but come on, it's 3pm, you'd expect them to at least check the rooms between the 11am checkout time and then. As a continuation from my prior point: the second room we received was empty of guests, but the minibar and fridge was also completely empty, and as far as we could tell, the only available water were these $10 artisan bottles. I'm not sure if they expect guests to go down to the lobby bar and ask for a glass at 12am or what... On a side note, I reserved this room for my girlfriend and I, whom don't see each other for most of the year, and I made a note of that whilst booking the reservation. They actually emailed me saying they'd marked the reservation and would try to leave something nice in the room for us, which I thought was very kind of them, but we actually ended up getting even less of a proper service than most guests probably receive, which I thought was pretty funny. Their POOL is still under renovation, and anything you might've heard about hot tubs on the roof is pure hearsay. Thankfully, most of the hotel seems complete now so it's not a big deal. The 'Superior' part of the SUPERIOR ROOMS is hilarious; for a good $20+ extra you get a room that's a few floors higher than the regular rooms, but the view (at least from our room) was directly into an office block! We had to keep the blinds down low to stop random white collar workers from being able to peer into our bedroom, lmao The HALLWAYS are really creepy. Not like a cool creepy either, like a "why do i feel like i'm in an old mental hospital" creepy. It's like stone painted dark blue, they're really claustrophobic with very dim lighting and a weird carpet. You feel like it's somewhere you are at risk of getting stabbed. Maybe that's just me. The CLEANERS are very very loud and start pretty early (around 7/8). I know they've got to clean, but because the corridors are so tiny the reverberations of them shouting, their phone alarms going off, clattering the cleaning equipment around so early in the morning really interrupted our sleep after the late night out we'd had. CONCLUSION: Beyond the stylish looking rooms, lobby and interesting area, this hotel still feels like they're getting themselves together. It's just a lot of little things they need to be doing better that would really elevate this place a lot! If you're looking for style, go for the Studio room instead (It was sold out when we booked), skip breakfast and, if you can bear the 15 minute stroll around the comfy local area, go to Johnny's Luncheonette instead.

Yelp
Excellent hotel. Bed was comfortable, room was clean, and service was above average. We had a few drinks at the bar because of the free drink coupon provided upon check in and they were amazing! Would definitely recommend staying here. And it is close to most relevant subway stations for tourists!

Yelp
This hotel is NOT luxury and is not 4-star. It is dirty, there are holes in sheets and the hallway is filthy. The room is dark, no view and the phone nor tv works. Check in was delayed 2 hours because rooms weren't ready because they let everyone check out late...that makes zero sense. The only good thing about this hotel is the customer service of the front desk staff. If I could give the room and accommodations no stars, I would. We were there for all of 30 minutes and in that time we were in two different rooms that were equally horrible. We decided to just cancel our reservation and leave because it was that gross. They shouldn't be charging anyone to stay at this mess.

Yelp
An expensive hotel which fails to do "basic hotel stuff". I won't be going back and recommend you go somewhere else at this price. Good: - Great location near High Line in Chelsea a few blocks from Penn station. - Cool decor, rooftop bar with nice drinks. Bad: - They just don't want to give you towels. The service, while friendly, was quite poor. Every day was a fight to get towels so we could shower. I'd go up to the front desk and ask, I'd use their WhatsApp contact to request it, and I'd remind them 4 hours later when they didn't come. This happened both days of my stay. One night we got them, the next we didn't. We just want to shower! - The cleaning staff woke us up! We arrived late after traveling and wanted to sleep in till 9am. Thin doors and impolitely loud conversation from the staff about some gossip isn't a good combination. - Arranging housekeeping service was a similar ordeal. The feeling I got is the hotel is understaffed, because they said they might not get to our room because there was a lot of checkouts today. It took 3 requests in the morning, afternoon, and night to get service. - AC wasn't working. We ran it at 67F at full blast for the whole stay, but the room never dipped below 75F. Maybe it was partially broken. The heat made sleep harder. - The room is quite small and the toilet isn't a separate room, so it's not really sound proof. Probably not great if you're traveling with someone else. - COVID pre-registration app was time-consuming and confusing, mixing up having had (and recovered from) COVID with having it at the present moment in the options (the grammar of the options doesn't distinguish between the two cases). - No gym, so you'll have to spend extra to go to one a few blocks away. The one I went to cost $60 for a day pass, but maybe there's cheaper ones further out. They have exercise classes in the hotel but only one a day so you've gotta fit on their schedule. - Their rooftop pool, one of the reasons we purchased the room, was closed the entire stay! Wow! The deciding factor between this and another hotel was due to false advertising. Overall, it feels like a $100 per night experience with a $500 per night price tag (we stayed in the "Standard" room, which is just a queen bed, desk, and bathroom).

Yelp
I stayed for two nights over Memorial weekend. For a very small investment, this could be a very sweet boutique hotel. It is, instead, a shabby little two- to three-star. The staff was very helpful and friendly but the condition of my room was appalling. Getting off the elevator, the walls were charcoal gray, very dark and the hallway was not air conditioned so it felt very stuffy. The door to my room was very scuffed and scratched. Paint is such an easy fix. The charcoal color continued into my room. Part of the floor was concrete, then a very dirty runner near the foot of the bed platform. Again, runners are cheap. Why leave such a dirty thing in place? I was grateful I had brought my own slippers. Due to the dirty rug, I had to question how clean I thought the concrete to be. The lamp in the corner did not work. The tiny room had two phones. Neither connected. There were two bath towels, no hand towels or washcloths. There was one tiny soap bar and some ritual small tubes of bath products. I had mixed feelings about the bathroom. The walls, floor and shower stall were all marble. Good. The toilet was very modern, but only my toes touched the floor. I'm 5'5". The sink was a tiny bowl, fine for hand washing but not face washing. The shower had a sunflower head only. A hand-held as well would have been nice. The common areas of the hotel are modern and trendy. It also has some cool outdoor spaces on the lobby level and a roof deck.

Yelp
Alby the bartender was the rudest bartender that I had ever encountered in my entire life. Ive traveled to so many places, and never been treated so poorly. He yanked my card out of my hand and continued to be rude and aggressive. They used old ice to serve my drink, and were very unpleasant.. Terrible service especially when all the drinks are $25+- I do not recommend coming here, I had a terrible experience

Yelp
I'll start this off with saying that I never leave reviews on these sort of forums. I know people say that but I truly have never left a Yelp review in my life. So with that being said I'll begin my review. When we arrived the front desk concierge (who was very nice) informed us that the TVs were not operational in the hotel. Honestly that was fine. I wouldn't normally complain about something like that but I'm including for context. The lobby area did concern me because it did bring some Motel 6 vibes along with it but again I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Now once we checked in we proceeded into our room. The first thing that caught our attention was how dark the hallways were. Now when I mean dark, I'm talking dark. I could barely see 2 feet ahead of me so I did not get the initial "high quality" hotel vibe. At that point I still was wanted to see what our room looked like. We entered the room, and after making the trek through the hallway of darkness we did indeed enter the room. The room was much smaller than the pictures alluded to. Now if that was the only issue, then we could have made due with it however once we factored in the BLOOD on the shower curtain and dirt stains on the wall, we had to reevaluate. At that point I made a reservation at a hotel nearby. With all of that being said, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of this hotel.

Yelp
Incredibly disappointed. Not at all what I would expect for $680 per night. The mattress was literally on the floor. Minimalist yes, but not at all functional or comfortable. Beyond design, the entire hotel is not up to par. Marks on the walls, room did not feel well cleaned, nowhere to put anything down in the bathroom, and I can keep going. Save yourself the disappointment, don't stay here.

Yelp
Pretty disappointing place. Staff not helpful. Arrived at 9 pm and in lobby restaurant shows they are open till 11, but were not serving. Some lights were out in room so at night was very dark. Lumpy, uncomfortable mattress thrown on the floor. Cramped room. No amenities (coffee...). I was overcharged and given some random explanation. There are way too many other better spots in NYC to stay.

Yelp
Alright folks, I waited a week to write this review to make sure it was as objective as possible. While the decor of this hotel is kooky and modern (definitely a plus), I have to be honest and say our stay was comically bad. THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR: - We booked this room in order to attend a black tie wedding. There is no lighting in these rooms. That made preparing for this event nearly impossible. My partner had to shine a phone flashlight on me for 20 minutes so I could do my hair and makeup. - There are ten channels on the TV, most of them in Spanish. (This didn't bother me, but my partner wanted it mentioned, lol.) - My partner took a ~10 minute shower which caused the entire room to flood, soaking our suitcases and wedding garments. I was blinking back tears trying to dry my $300 dress off with a towel. - To our surprise and horror, when we returned from the wedding (around 12:30am), the hotel was throwing a rager. The lobby was filled with drunk people not wearing masks; a staff member was trying and failing to escort an aggressive drunk woman out of the building; there was an ambulance outside; a staff member initially refused to let us use the elevators, and then when we argued that we were guests there, he shoved us into the back of the elevator and let another TEN PEOPLE into that tiny space. They were all so drunk that one woman in the front was dry heaving and two of the men started physically fighting in the elevator. I felt so unsafe. To the staff's credit, they seemed completely overwhelmed and just unable to control the situation. - The rager continued into the early hours of the night, which we know because it was deafeningly loud in our room. We were finally able to fall asleep around 3:30am. - Although we had a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door, housekeeping still woke us up at 9:00am sharp. We were so exhausted. I really wish staff had informed us that there would be a big party that night when we were making the booking. We didn't even bother trying to get a refund because other wedding guests had already tried and been laughed out the door. But if we could go back, we would absolutely stay at another hotel. This one nearly ruined our special event.

Yelp
This hotel and the way they manage their business is the WORST. I am an owner of a small mom and pop shop that is barely making ends meet and this hotel has not paid me for any of my services that I have provided 6 months prior to the pandemic. I have called the hotel and emailed multiple times the person that's supposed to handle the invoices but they have all gone unanswered since April of last year. The hotel and their management have the money to spend millions on buying and renovating this property but just straight up refuse to give me any answer for an amount that is tiny to them but would be a huge help to my business surviving. The way they are handling the situation is downright disrespectful and lacking in customer service. How can they expect to run a business that is supposed to involve great customer service when they don't care at all.

Yelp
You get what you pay for. This hotel is well located in the Chelsea region of NYC. The location is very convenient to the Highline and Hudson Yards. The negative: inadequate hot water in shower, platform bed that may be difficult for some people to rise from, no coffee or tea provided for guests (you can buy a cup of tea for $6), bar in lobby that charges $20 per drink, poorly maintained (room light not working) and no housekeeping provided for our second night.
