Senate Avenue Brewing Company Will Open in Jersey Village - Eater Houston

"Senate Avenue Brewing Company, founded by Jersey Village mayor Andrew Mitcham, is set to open later this year. The brewery is currently undergoing the permitting process, with construction expected to begin soon. The brewery will offer a variety of staple beers, including an IPA, a blonde ale, a malty amber, and a high-gravity stout. Mitcham aims to create a neighborhood brewpub catering to the local community." - Amy McCarthy

Staff was very nice and the beers had great flavor. Short Ribs and wings were amazing! Get the beef empanadas....you won't be disappointed. Will definitely be back but maybe on a night less crowded with kids running around the place.

Met up with my brothers here after work, and to my surprise, it was awesome! I tried the Persephone beer, and the flavor was incredible, fruity, wheaty... perfectly balanced. I also tried an ale beer, but I can’t remember the name. It was surprisingly tastey. The atmosphere was cool, even though my brothers were a bit loud (as usual, lol). I’ll definitely be coming back for the great vibes and that amazing beer 😃

Google
They serve good beer and good food! They have other types of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks available. Great list of food on the menu. Plenty of space inside and outside with TVs to watch the games. Lots of parking available. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Google
Really enjoyed this place! The wings were perfect… crispy and fresh and the sauce was on point. Tacos were fresh and delicious and they worked with us to make them customized from the menu to accommodate cilantro sensitivity. Beers were lovely as well. Will be back!

Google
Each of the three beers that I had were outstanding and possessed distinctive characteristics that will bring me back to try more. Moreover, the food was fantastic! The atmosphere was bright and cheerful. Great care has been taken at every step to ensure that you will have an excellent meal served with an exceptional brew. We will be back many more times.

Had a wonderful experience hosting my engagement party here! Staff were welcoming, friendly, and delivered fast service in spite of our large group. I will be looking to do this again for my graduation party since it went so perfectly the first time.

Google
A great little neighborhood place with super friendly service, great beer selection, and standard food/bites. I wish it had a bit more expansive menu food-wise, but for what it is, it's awesome - definitely recommend for a casual lunch or happy hour! Bonus points for all the Parks and Rec, Schitts Creek, and Office references throughout, along with the giant dog portrait (forgot his name, but nonetheless adorably kitschy!)

Google
Love this place. Lively and welcoming neighborhood brewery, beers are always delicious (and they’ll add new brews constantly), food is the best of bar bites. The Mayor’s burger is my favorite so far, the wings are the runner up, as they’re huge and just the right amount of crispy. Oh and they do really well organized Trivia nights (Harry Potter and such) on a weekly basis. Owner is always around, is involved and friendly, and service is great. If you’re in doubt about going, stop, just get in your car, and drive to Senate Ave and order a beer and fried cheese curds while you think about it some more.

Yelp
This place has great food and a great selection of beers. I recommend the pretzel, fried artichokes, and salads are pretty good too. I mostly come for the movie and trivia nights which are always fun. Checkout their Facebook page for upcoming events!

Yelp
Met a friend here for lunch today. This is a very casual place where you order at the counter and seat yourself. Don't forget to grab your own napkins, cutlery and condiments. As a water drinker, they just had little cups and a tub of water. Disappointingly no ice, and the water was room temperature. I felt a little European drinking a small cup of warm water. My bacon cheeseburger with fries was $15. Solid burger, good amount of cheese and bacon. They asked if I wanted regular, Cajun, or sweet potato fries. I went for the Cajun. They were well cooked and had a nice flavor, but I would have liked a little bit more seasoning. Kind of weird that the toppings for the burger weren't either on it or on the bun, so it took a little maneuvering to pick them up and get them on top of the burger. Overall I was pretty happy with the burger and fries

Yelp
This little place is literally down the road from my daughter's house in Jersey Village. It was a great find. We sat outside on the patio which wasn't covered but had adequate shade in the afternoon. I wish we had taken our doggo, but we will be back. They have a QR code and you are actually able to order from the table. The waitress brings out your food/drink order. We got the beef empanadas, the loaded fries, and a pizza. By the time we had ate all the empanadas and fries we had wished we hadn't ordered the pizza. Ha ha we were way too full!! Everything was great and my daughter liked their craft beer as well.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday mainly because they have an outside area for the kids. But that area was not there anymore, it was just dirt so defeated the purpose. It was a bit packed, but we managed to get a table. My friend called prior to see if he could reserve but they told him they don't do reservations, and then when we showed we saw a table with a reserved sign, so that was a bit confusing. The food was okay. If you're looking to mainly hang and drink with some bites then this is a good place. Everything was over priced and too salty. We got the supreme fries, buffalo chicken sandwich, beef empanadas, and a kids sliders meal. The supreme fries were lacking cheese. Beef empanadas were salty, not sure if they're fresh or from a box. I don't think their high prices match their quality. Wouldn't go again.

Yelp
A friend suggested this place for dinner and I honestly had my reservations. Dinner at a brewery sounded like chicken wings and fries but Senate Avenue Brewery blew my mind with a restaurant worthy menu. I had the braised short rib with mashed potatoes (go ahead a take a sec to wrap your mind around that. I'll wait) followed by a refreshing and generous helping of raspberry sorbet that was the perfect palette cleanser for the end of a flavorful meal. The short rib was insanely tender, cutting easily with my knife, with just enough sauce to coat each piece of meat as I cut into it and a few mushroom caps sprinkled in there. I could've used more mash for sure but that's a personal preference as I'm a potato girlie. The cheese curds were crunchy and the pretzel bites were pillowy soft. I have no complaints about my meal nor the atmosphere of the brewery. It's a large, open space with high ceilings to carry the sound throughout. It was bright and loud which I fully expected but it wasn't off-putting. Everyone we encountered was kind and helpful and at the end of the night as they were gearing to close, the runner came and asked if we wanted any dessert before the kitchen closed. That's how I ended up with the sorbet lol. I'd definitely come back. There were a couple things on the menu I'd like to try.

Yelp
Music trivia is awesome, food is delicious and the beer is tasty. Fun times! Whoo hoooo!!

Yelp
I thought I took more pics but didn't! One of my besties and I went here for steak night. We both ordered the rib eye. I got mine with greens beans, now the green beans would have been good but they put corn in there which I'm not use to it. steaks 8/10 greens 5/10 mash 10/10 cheese curds 6/10 corn dip? 9/10 The place is pretty expensive... but a nice spot for sure to hang with co workers at...I also had a cider their green apple one and it was light and nice. The service was good the lady at the register was friendly and provided a lot of information. I can def can see the potential this place will have...wouldn't mind going back on a good pay day.

Yelp
Poor business business decisions by management will always cost you. I took our grandfather out to eat for his birthday cause he really wanted to try this place. We ordered our food only to find every single table in the restaurant had a reserved sign. Mind you the place is about 90% empty.... I wish I was joking. IIf you're going to have pre-reservations for multiple parties that aren't there then just don't open up to the public. It's dishonest and quite st*pid. I hope they've learned some common sense from this cause we canceled our order and walked out. Can't review food or eat it if you cant sit anywhere. Do better guys

Yelp
Fantastic gathering spot! Just what you want in a legit neighborhood restaurant. The owner and his family are usually circulating. If you are lucky you will see Robert, the owner's dad, in his usual spot on the couch. He has never met a stranger so feel free to strike up a conversation. Great beer selection, food is really good! Try the crab cakes. I know. Yes try them. Burger is legit. Fish and chips on Friday- not enough vinegar but they gave me extra when I asked. The beer is brewed in house but they also have local guest kegs on tap. Simple kids play area with a gravel rock pit and artificial grass. Pet friendly patio. TVs in view if you want to watch sports ball. Large patio and large indoor seating. Most are large tables with batches, but there are a few tables w chairs.

Yelp
Music trivia was awesome! Service was amazing! Food was excellent! Winning 3rd place in music trivia was a plus : )

Geralyn M.

Yelp
Everything is always great food, beers and entertainment. Love trivia nights!! We always have a group for music trivia.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid selection of beer and wine. Decently priced. A great place for 3-6 on the road office to skip the traffic. Place was packed at 6 on a Wednesday Didn't try the food this round but will update when I do. It looked good
google avatar

Shannon V.

Yelp
Had a great happy hour that extended to music trivia! Didn't come close to winning...but the great food and drinks made up for our lack of 90's and 00's music videos! Really enjoyed the ready.aim.fire Belgian and the Hatch Act of 1939 with a hint of hatch chile. You can order and pay from your table by QR code which was so convenient and fast!!

Yelp
Absolutely unexpected experience here! Not only is the vibe super relaxed but the beer and the food options are incredible. I had a hazy IPA, a raspberry sour, and the fish and chips. The rest of my party had cheese curds, fried pork skins, crab cakes, and loaded fries. Everything was insanely tasty and came out super fast. Sampling beer was easy and they didn't give us any hassle there. The prices were very affordable for 16oz pours. The service was great and the bathrooms were clean. We came the day after Thanksgiving and it was nice to be able to watch sports with not too many patrons in the building. I can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Always enjoy it when I go here - great food, really solid beers and a nice atmosphere. Counter service so you just walk up, order and they bring to your table. Good place to bring kids too.

Yelp
Went for trivia and had a blast! If you want good beer and food, you've found your place

Yelp
What a great spot. A really great spot. Rather easy to get to with adequate parking, Senate Avenue Brewing has a roomy interior with multiple different kinds of tables. Nice outdoor area for fun and conversation, too. Very gracious employees who are oh-so-good at their job, too. Order at the bar and grab yourself a spot to sit. Beers are excellent. Smoke Show Roasted Jalapeño Blonde had just a hint of jalapeño, but a very smooth, easy-drinking taste. The Czech Amber Lager was also a hit. Food ordered came out lightning-fast, too! The Supreme Loaded Fries were de-lish! Crab cakes were excellent and the soft pretzel was just right. We observed many locals who came here during their obvious lunch hour from work. Many didn't order any beer, as there is a wide variety of soft drinks from which to choose, along with iced tea and water. They were here for the food - which is a good sign that their kitchen is doing a nice job. This is a superb local brewery nestled in a nice part of town. So glad we stopped in recently. Definitely on my list of breweries that I intend on returning to.
google avatar

Joseph M.

Yelp
Family and pet friendly brewery. Not overly noisy, which is great, and it's close to the freeway for easy access. The beers are pretty good! I didn't care for the Red, White, & Blueberry Cream Ale, but the Smoke Show Roasted Jalapeño Blonde was awesome! Haven't tried the food, but will definitely come back and update the review with food pics. Overall, a nice, chill spot. If I lived in the area I'd frequent here often
google avatar

Sydney C.

Yelp
My family & I really enjoy this brewery. I'm not usually a beer drinker but I like the lighter beers here. The food is also tasteful! I really like their Margherita pizza. You can either get up and order or your can order on your phone. The service is great. They come around & clear off the tables pretty fast. The place is a kid friendly with lots of games. It gets pack on Fridays around 6-7, of course. They also have a pretty decent size patio if you wanted to sit outside too. On the other hand I think the glass ware is so cute.
google avatar

Veronica H.

Yelp
Beth needs retrained or to only do day shifts. Drinks are not often great here. Food is okay

Pong E.

Yelp
Good beer lineup, the kitchen cranks out good food, tenders and staff are friendly. Plenty of activities going on throughout the week. Facilities are clean and big, and the place is dog friendly. Parking is hectic during busy hours. Great place to hangout, go try them out!
google avatar

Kari J.

Yelp
I love this place! I've been coming here for years!! Since the porch swings!! Food is great and so are the drinks! My favorite sports are always on! And if not, they will find the particular event I'm wanting to watch and put it on one of their TVs.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a good clean local brew pub. The two beers I tried were delicious. One being their Pilsner the other a basic blond. When I was unsure of my second choice the team graciously provided a sample for another and the blond before choosing the blond. 10 and 16 oz are available allowing a try of two beers without having to down excess. I wanted to grab a growler on the way out but the were out at the time and expected new shipments soon. I'm sure I'll be back for one. The food was good bar food. I wanted simple bar fries and a burger which is what my son went with also. Both were delicious and hit the spot. Good size and good taste. My son is not the adventurous foodie but he wanted to try the pork skins in our first visit to expand his horizons. We enjoyed the spices and the ability to have an app without overloading ourselves. The atmosphere is open, airy and friendly. They have tables and sofas and chairs. Families are welcome and after the 100+ degree weather breaks, maybe even sit outside as that looked like a nice place to sit when it wasn't an oven outside.
google avatar

Mary G.

Yelp
I love the variety of drinks and food. They always have fun events. I just wish they would share when they are having events more consistently and with more notice.
google avatar

Kaileigh H.

Yelp
Beer choice was limited but there was a small variety. The beer I had was the strawberry saison and to be honest you couldn't taste any fruit. Which is disappointing. I tried a fronds beer and that one was really good. So I think it is hit or miss with what beers are good or not. We didn't get food but what was coming out of the kitchen looks amazing! Service was good but the atmosphere was wonderful. A lot of local young people wanting to hang out. I like that they have different events each night for the community like puzzle and board game nights. So if I wasn't just visiting for the weekend I would totally go.
google avatar

Kam N.

Yelp
Fridays are the best fish plates. My mom loves this place. They have a dog free patio and all the staff are friendly. I don't drink at all but the guys from my workplace think that the beer that Senate Avenue brews is top notch. They love coming here after work to relax and wind down before hitting the traffic on their way home. Best to so many!!!!

Yelp
Ok so... HOW LONG HAVE I LIVED RIGHT DOWN THE STREET AND NEVER NOTICED THIS SPOT?! I love this place and I am so glad that I found it right down the street. Maybe it's a bad thing that I found this brewery but all in all I never thought that such a cool spot can be so near home. Definitely reminds me of a microbrewery you would find in the city. Finally! 1 point for Cypress/Jersey Village!!! They have a flight of beer for $12.. Which I did partake in and I also ordered their personal Margarita pizza. I couldn't pick a favorite beer... all were pretty awesome! I would recommend to go and ask someone at the front what they recommend. They are super helpful. I like a light non hoppy beer and they did a pretty good job in giving me their best recommendation under what my preference was. Their Margarita pizza felt like a snack. SUPER thin crust.. it was just not filling. Velveta cheese for their queso... not the best food but awesome drinks/atmosphere. They played the Astros game so they hit the nail on the head with everything else. Highly recommended for a night out with friends and family.

Yelp
Family run brewery with a laid back atmosphere. Good, regularly rotating, beers and decent bar food. Great patio when the weather is nice. Will go back.

Yelp
Awesome Place and Awesome People. Always lots of Fun. Best Trivia Nights Around Music Bingo Bring your family and Friends

Lionel R.

Yelp
My first time here the staff was great and a good selection of beers. The food was ok in my opinion others would probably say the food is great. The ambience is a little loud but it is a place to socialize. The only thing I don't like about this place is that they allowed kids going from table to table selling popcorn or whatever they are selling for fundraiser. The kids walk up to our table two to three times trying to sell their merchandise. I just want to go to a place to have a beer. I don't need someone trying to selling fundraisers snacks.
google avatar

Yelp
Went here for Stranger Things trivia last night and we had such a good time! The trivia was fast, well organized, and had a great format with clips from the show with the answers after the round. The beers were good (the best being the red, white, and blueberry cream ale) and they had a really interesting and delicious selection of ciders if beer isn't your thing. The food was fine (bar food that gets the job done) and the service was excellent, especially since they were super busy. We sat outside and I was pleasantly surprised by their fan situation. We were not overly hot despite it being July in Houston! Definitely recommend if you live in the area and are looking for a laid back evening!
google avatar

Albert T.

Yelp
Loved this place so much, came on back to back days. A great and very inviting space, indoor and outdoor seating, lots of parking. While we did order the flight, our favorite out of all was the "Married Filing Jointly" Strawberry blonde beer - I hope this stays on the menu everyday! It was so good, on the second day we came they were already sold out. As far as the food goes, not bad for a brewery. We had the chips/salsa, wings, pizza--all good, no complaints. I didn't take a pic of the loaded fries, but they were a great appetizer.

Kendra G.

Yelp
Very mediocre food and not a big selection. Also not full service restaurant. It wasn't too busy since it was lunch and it was clean so that's good. Maybe if you're going for drinks it's fine but all the good reviews are def not for food.

Bryce B.

Yelp
I called ahead of time and was told there are tables open for trivia. Show up over an hour early for trivia yet there is nowhere to sit cause they allow reservations. Not a single person is there for any reservation. At any table. I talk to the manager to get a reservation for next trivia yet I'm not allowed too cause I am too early. I am then told to stand and wait until a table opens up to play. Then they state not every table shows up, so if I were to wait they could prob get me a table. Then he states if I want to grab a drink right now I need to go outside cause an hour before trivia they don't allow anyone to seat at the reservations. Absolutely terrible experience and customer service
google avatar

Sunland C.

Yelp
I'm not a drinker, so I can't speak for the alcoholic beverages here, but the food is legitimately good for bar food. I liked the pizzas the most. Very casual atmosphere. Games available. A patio that is dog friendly.
google avatar

Rachel O.

Yelp
This is truly a neat new establishment in the area! They carry only a limited amount of their own beers (only had 1 when I went, but two were listed) but carry more of a variety of surrounding local breweries. They are dog friendly but be aware that at least when we went there was a dog running around freely since it was the owners/employees. If you go, don't pass up on getting something to eat! I was overly surprised by how good the food we got was. When I go to a bar or brewery I don't only expect great beer but great food and they did not disappoint. Overall I'm excited to see what else they have in store!
google avatar

Deya Z.

Yelp
Ordered 1 beer for each of us, finished in about 30 min...then we ordered 4 single beers to go, waited another 25 min. Honestly, if you're going to can beer on-site, have a few of your more popular sellers ready in the AM, or get another machine but having folks wait around for 20 min is kind of ridiculous. The woman said we'd wait about 5 min but it actually much closer to about 20-25 min. After a day of travel, I was over it.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Very chill and spacious brewery! U can order and check out via your phone! Loved their hazy IPA. The strawberry blonde does have hints of strawberries! The protein bowl was very good too! They were out of a couple things but will come again!
google avatar

Cheryl S.

Yelp
This place is nice and clean. Haven't had food there yet, but will try it soon. Good beer selection and mimosa flights all day.
google avatar

Kay H.

Yelp
This review is a sign for you to go and try it out, especially when you have little ones and been holding back on having some beers and good food out of the house for a chance. It's a small brewery compared to most I've been too. Went on a Sunday at 10am (hallelujah for alcohol that early after 1 long hour outside in the heat at the park with the kids) and they only have brunch menu at that time and a lot of beer option was sold out but that didn't stop us from having a great time. There're both indoor and outdoor seating, high chairs are available. You can either order first and grab a table or you can order straight from your table since each table has it's own QR code to order from. They have mimosa as well for brunch. We got the beer flights, which is really cute but be mindful it doesn't have a bottom so don't be dragging that flight around, you have to pick it up to move it. As far as food, they have kids menu, brunch options were great. Outdoor has the little rock pit for the kids to find a golden rock. That kept them busy hunting for treasure and they didn't even wanna leave after all their finger nails are black and their knees are ashy. I started to think they might make great miners in the future. Will be back if we're in the area. P/S: there's trash can and an area near the restroom entrance where you can return your trays after you're finished.
google avatar

Destiny F.

Yelp
Loved this place! The menu is great the atmosphere is relaxing. It's dog friendly and they have delicious pizza and wings. They have lots of healthy options for food too. They had both indoor and outdoor seating and for going on a Sunday afternoon it wasn't packed at all. I saw families together here too it's a great place to eat relax and chill. They have plenty of TVs around we're you can watch different sports games. I can't wait to go back again!

Yelp
Great experience. Great staff. Great ownership. Definitely put this on your list to go. Sandwich and the burgers were good. Crab cakes: enh

Laura L.

Yelp
Best place for beers, food, and trivia nights!!! We are here several nights a month!! Best craft beer selection!!

Chris W.

Yelp
I ordered a flight of 4 beers and didn't touch 3 of them after one sip, and the brew I finished gets a C+. The crab cakes were very bland, I didn't finish half of the dish. Part of me wishes I asked for a refund. Solid ambiance, reasonably friendly staff and a cool place to hangout at. The part I liked best about this place = the comfortable chairs and definitely not the beer or food
google avatar

Yelp
During the recent horrid winter storm that graced Houston (big sigh), Senate was angels. They gave back to the community in such an amazing, selfless way. Providing clean water, snacks/food, and a great place to retreat from the chaos. Huge thanks to reminding us how powerful community can be! We love you. Sincerely, A grateful houstonian
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
Love it here - checks all the boxes: chill, family friendly, good drinks, good food, gluten free friendly (seriously they are a brewery that serves another company's gluten free beer - among other gluten free options). AC is cold! They have patio coolers! They have a rock pit for the kids! Dogs welcome! You literally won't be sad here, check it out.
google avatar

Yelp
Sam was a great server, he worked to get our heater working -- switching out the tank and the heater itself. Whatever we tipped him, it was not enough. Brews are good, food is good ( a little on the pricy side ). I will say that there are as many kids as adults there. And the parents DO NOT care, one bit. They let the kids run around outside unsupervised, so be prepared for that.

Yelp
This new brewpub recently opened up in a new retail two level strip center located on Senate Avenue in Jersey Village. It's easy to access from the Hwy. 290 frontage road Senate Avenue exit. On the other end of the building is the new Little Kitchen HTX restaurant. I have visited Senate Avenue Brewing Company twice now and here is my report. Both visits were for dinner. The first visit was to try their sliders that comes with fries for $10. I chose the crab crake version that comes with lettuce, tomato and chipotle ranch sauce. I also added a local beer of theirs called Don't Hassle Me, I'm Local (a blonde ale) for another $6. The food came out in about 5 minutes. On the plate were 2 sliders and fries. The sliders were good tasting and I rated them at a 3 but the fries were barely warm and I gave them a 2. Obviously they weren't cooked to order and left under a poorly performing heat lamp. This disappointed me and should have never left the kitchen that way. I mentioned this to a manager who offered to go get me some fresh fries but I was near the end of my meal and didn't want to wait for them to cook a fresh batch. The beer was very good in taste and one that I would order again. Overall, I would have given this meal a 2 due to the fries mainly. The second visit allowed me to try the Blackened Redfish Pontchartrain with a side of mashed potatoes for $ 21. I added a different beer this time called Tiki Wheat for $7. This meal took about 10 minutes to arrive and I really enjoyed it. The redfish had the pontchartrain topping of shrimp, crab and mushrooms and was delicious. The accompanying mashed potatoes were equally very good in taste. The beer was also very good that I would order again. Overall, I would give this meal a 4. This is a counter service restaurant that has both indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor area consists of tables and chairs along with indoor bench swings and corner areas with sofas to sit with friends. Outside there is a children's play area along with more picnic style benches. This area is open to the weather without a roof. There are TV's both inside and out and the interior has some Jersey Village area decor and I believe that more interior finishing will come over time. I believe Senate Avenue Brewing Company will be popular with the residents that live near here and I will return.

Yelp
was the coordinator for a wedding reception that took place at Senate Avenue Brewing this past Saturday and it was amazing!! The staff totally went above and beyond to make sure all guests and couple were taken care of and having a great time. (Shoutout to Glenn, Mack, Sam, Josh, Emma, Beth, Allen, and the owner Andrew!!) great place to visit for a beer or host an intimate event. They pair with a restaurant for catering and the catering point person, Vanessa, was also super easy to work with and really thoughtful of the couple as well as staff. I would recommend this place to anyone!
