At the suggestion of one of Mrs. HB's co-workers, we stopped in to try Senor Julian's. He was right. It was great! The first thing you noticed when you walk in is the colorful artwork all over the restaurant. The second thing you notice is they are using every square foot they can to get as many people seated as possible. They even use the hallway to the restrooms for seating! They were very well staffed, and the entire staff was extremely friendly! But the food... it was some of the best Mexican we've had in long time. And the portion sizes were... substantial. I recommend anyone who loves Mexican food to try Senor Julian's. You'll be glad you did.

Google
Absolutely amazing food and wonderful service/staff. Our server, Ben was a very nice individual. He was a very courteous and polite person. Hard to find these days. The food was delicious and well appreciated! Definitely will come back to visit!

Google
We loved it here and will be back. It was very good! The fajita baked potato was amazing. The fluffiest potato I have ever had. The rice had the best flavor and the meat had amazing spices on it! Definitely need to try the place!

My favorite place to eat in Springfield! The food is always delicious and comes out super fast! Griffin has been my server several times and is excellent. He always gives great recommendations on new foods & somehow convinces my table to drink JUMBO margaritas. Every server I have had has been 10/10. I would give more than a 5 star rating if I could!!! Glad they are not open on Tuesdays so I’m forced to eat at home.

Google
Sensor Julian’s is top notch! A hidden gem in Springfield. Family owned and excellent authentic food. The service is incredible and they make you feel right at home. We had Griffin and he was so polite and so funny. Will definitely be back! Don’t sleep on the Jumbo Margaritas, you’ll thank me later.

I drove down from St. Louis to Springfield to attend a concert that a former student of my conducted and when finished… searched for the obligatory Mexican restaurant to eat at when in a new city! I am SO glad that I discovered Señor Julian! What a way to end such a memorable day! I was a little reticent about being able to eat here as the parking lot was full and there were patrons standing outside, but sometimes being a “party of ONE” has its benefits! “Would you be agreeable to a high table?” SURE! I was seated right away and quickly presented with chips, salsa and a tall glass of water! Having looked at the menu prior to arriving I already knew what I wished to order and told my server, Griffin, my order! I doubt that it was more than 3-4 minutes later when Griffin (¡Si! ¡Griffin! Who was great by the way!😊) brought out a hot plate with my chimichanga, rice, beans and a Pacifico! And this was no small chimichanga, folks! It was… delicious! I don’t know why more people don’t put out positive reviews because it takes just as much time to compliment as it does to criticize and I wanted to give Señor Julian their praise as quickly as I could! (I’m actually sitting in my car while STILL in the parking lot! 🤭) So… if you’re looking for authentic food, fast and friendly service… look no further! And when you DO stop in…tell Griffin that that choir director from St. Louis says “Hi!”

Google
Not your typical Midwest Tex/Mex influenced Mexican restaurant. Menu has good diversity in options. Asado de pueco has very good flavor. Beans and rice also. Awesome salsa with sweet and hot combination. Bar has good vibe. Very good service, everyone welcoming. I recommend a glass of Casamigos mezcal as an end to a great meal.

Google
Great experience, great food and most importantly amazing service! We have been regular customers for several years and couldn’t say enough about this place. The owners are there every night and will make sure you are treated right every visit whether it’s your first time or 100th. Not only do they care but they have invested in their team who reflect their attention to detail and caring attitude! I have to give a special shout out to Carolina our server and friend for many years. She is so special and attentive but also has the best personality! Not only does she remember our orders and special requests but she cares about you and making sure you have the best experience. Senor Julian’s is amazing and we are lucky to have them in Springfield, Mo!

Yelp
We came here for the first time last night for dinner. It wasn't quite as good as I hoped it would be, but it wasn't terrible. The salsa was really good, so that was a plus. The downside is that the salsa comes in a little bottle that is only filled between 1/3 to 1/2 of the way full, so when you have three people at the table, you have to repeatedly ask for salsa. Half of that little pitcher is only enough for about two people. So that was a bit frustrating. The main reason we came here was because people recommended the tortillas as being fluffy, delicious, homemade tortillas. Unfortunately, the tortillas were pretty disappointing. They were flat, not fluffy at all. You could still see patches of flour on them, which wasn't a huge deal, but it was definitely not what I was expecting. They did not taste any different than store-bought tortillas to me. We ordered the El Jefe Queso. It was extremely watery. We really could not even take a scoop of it because there was too much liquid. You had to kind of dip your chip in the cheesy water and wipe it off on the side so it didn't leak everywhere on its way to your mouth. Guacamole needed more acid. I wish I would've asked for limes to add to it myself. It also needed more salt. It was really creamy but bland. I ordered Chicken Tampico. The zucchini was barely cooked and still way too hard, not even al dente, almost raw. The mushrooms were cooked pretty well. The mushroom sauce was OK, but I would've preferred a different sauce after tasting it. The rice was good, especially with the fresh pico. That part I enjoyed. I also loved the fact that the chicken was incredibly thin. I would much prefer that to chicken that is thicker and has more potential to be undercooked. The service was pretty good here. We constantly had people coming around checking to see if we needed more chips. The chips stayed full pretty much the whole time. The restaurant was incredibly loud. The table behind us and the people that kept stopping to talk to the folks sitting at the bar height table next to us were unnecessarily loud. Of course, there's really not much the Restaurant can do about something like that, so I don't hold that against the restaurant or anything. I'm just mentioning that as part of the ambience that we experienced. Would we come back again? Yes, if we're in the area. I'm not sure that I would make a trip from Ozark solely for that purpose though.

Yelp
One of the best places around Springfield we found were from Joplin and Carthage. We have lots of good places here but they're top-notch..

Yelp
We popped in to Senor Julian's Friday night and the place was hopping, in such a good way! You could definitely tell it's a local favorite spot! We were able to sit at the bar and it had to be one of the owners who was bartending and serving and he was the best! They make homemade tortillas and serve them with butter if you're 1st timers and they were delicious. We forgot to take pictures. Also did not get a picture of the Tacos Especiales that my son got and they were our favorite plate, which was recommended by the owner and he wasn't wrong!! With that said, everything was so good that we talked about road tripping from KC to Springfield just to eat here!

Yelp
Me and the family stopped in for lunch on our way through Springfield and everyone was happy! The food was great, the servers were super friendly and on top of everything, and it was a cute place. A great time!

Yelp
The service was great, and they are super nice. The food was "amazing" and the ambiance is awesome and very colorful and pops. And they know right when we sit down they know what we what to drink

Yelp
Everybody has been talking about this place...so we tried it one time. Now, entrees we're pretty good. The salsa was better than it looks. Chips are decent. The place was a zoo...cramped..... louder. Good for them....but does detract from the dining experience somewhat.

Sarah E.

Yelp
First time visiting. The food, service, and atmosphere were phenomenal. Chips and salsa arrived within 30 seconds of being seated. Our server, Caleb was prompt, friendly, and efficient. Salsa: well blended (smooth salsa) with small chunks of onion and cilantro. Not spicy, but not bland - it's nice. Chips were served warm. Guacamole salad, tortillas, rice, and refried beans were all TexMex authentic and clearly homemade. Chicken Fajitas: HUGE portion. Could be shared or taken home for a second meal, for sure. Fajitas meat has a great flavor. Brenda's enchiladas: 3 cheese enchiladas with grilled chicken and queso on top. Wow! So good. Plenty of food - leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Food was piping hot when it arrived. Will definitely be back. Best TexMex in Springfield!

Yelp
Best food great portions! Everything was delicious. Shrimp tacos were incredible! My daughter loves the kids options. Food was hot and fresh.

Yelp
Ate here bcoz another yelp review said the food was better than the Mexican food in San Diego. It's not. Typical neighborhood, casual atmosphere/decor. Clean. Good service. But the other exaggerated review meant the food was a letdown for us. I'm from Texas and my son lives in California so we've eaten lots of Mexican food. Even in San Diego. I had the chimichanga. The chicken inside was so dry that I had to ask for extra queso to moisten it for eating. Also, it was my birthday and traditionally Mexican restaurants offer a special dessert for the birthday person or at least sopapillas for the table. It was plain ice cream or a tequila shot here. Second disappointment of the meal. No reason to return or choose it over any other Mexican restaurant in Springfield.

Tommy J.

Yelp
I could eat here everyday. Everything I've had is so good, and you can tell it is very well run, staff is all great, and the food comes out shockingly fast. The El Jefe dip is crazy addicting but they've got something for everyone on the menu and it's all done really well.

Maureen E.

Yelp
Oh my God! This place has the best food and even better service! This family run establishment has legit down home delicious Mexican food! I was in town from Idaho where you cannot find good Mexican food. We ordered the queso Birria tacos and they serve them with a beef consume that is heavenly!

Tim B.

Yelp
Being from Arizona may skew my opinion. The Mexican food at this restaurant was barely mediocre. Had a group of about 15 people, most did not enjoy or even eat all of their food. Service was good and the beer was cold, the saving grace.
google avatar

Donn D.

Yelp
The food here is five star. The dirty silverware, forgetful waiters and crazy loud and super small dining area is more like a two star experience. So I graded on a curve. To be honest the food is good enough that we would eat here again, but if it's up to me we'll be picking it up and taking it home to enjoy.

Yelp
Drove in from out of town and decided to hit this spot close to our hotel. Place was packed on a Friday night but we were sat right away. As soon as we sat down, we were immediately given chips and salsa and greeted by our waiter. Service was beyond amazing. Food and drinks came out fast! Didn't get a picture of our food (we were starving). We shared a huge margarita and it was plenty for the both of us. Will definitely be back if ever in the area again!
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
Quesabarria tacos were delicious. Chicken dish was a rather thin piece of breast, bacon thick. Good atmosphere. Great service. Only real complaint was the restrooms. I don't like it when there's a single restroom, and it is almost always occupied by a member of the staff sitting in there forever. Also, my check had items on it that I did not order, which took 15 minutes to correct.
google avatar

Camille D.

Yelp
My husband and I have loved this place since they first opened. We're here a couple times a month. The food is outstanding, the service attentive, and the atmosphere vibrant (love the colorful paintings, iguanas, and hats on the walls!). Best quesabirria tacos ever. We also love their fajitas, streets tacos, chile verde, and Julian's special. Their salsa is the best of any Mexican restaurant in town imo. Oh and can't forget the homemade flour tortillas - could eat them plain! They recently expanded their dining room and got all new dining furniture (chairs are much comfier now!), so I guess they're doing well. Hope they continue to do so. In our top 2 Mexican restaurants in Springfield.

Yelp
We just had the best Mexican food ever, we're from San Diego and the food here is amazing and much better
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
The food is always amazing, the service is always fast and the staff are all very friendly. The trash can nachos are very good, honestly there's not a bad thing on the menu! The margaritas and crush cans are really fun and effective! They recently expanded their building and the design is authentic with a modern touch, great space for the heavy foot traffic their delicious food brings.

Yelp
On a recent trip to Springfield, we found this little gem. The service was excellent, the staff were very friendly and informative, and most importantly the food was Awesome! I ordered the Quesabirria Tacos and my husband ordered Brenda's Enchiladas, both was delicious. Enjoyed their charro beans. And for a treat their homemade fresh tortillas was amazing! I recommend this place for some excellent Mexican food!

Yelp
Best Mexican in Springfield, Mo. Great service and they have the best horchata I have ever had. The restaurant fits a lot of people and it's not too loud. Great option for Mexican Food!!

E M.

Yelp
Great chips and salsa. Service was good and atmosphere nice. No vegetarian options on menu which is a big minus to me. They made me a veggie burrito but was plain and nothing memorable so
google avatar

Yelp
The best Mexican in Springfield for sure! Good drinks, good service, and AMAZING FOOD.

Yelp
Food was very good, served fast. Service was top notch. All servers work together to get the job done!

Nancy L.

Yelp
Service was amazing and our waitress was fast. We ordered our drinks in less than 2 minutes she came out with our drinks. The food portions were amazing. I ordered two quesadillas. And I could not eat not. The restraint is both quality speed and quantity. I will gladly come back here again. The inside of the restraint was beautiful. They always cheack up on you. And it was cheap. $11 for 2 quesadillas, and one side of rice. I would highly recommend. I have been to many Mexican restaurants but this is top 2 for Shure.

Mark T.

Yelp
I detest some of these elitist reviews, This is one of the top 5 Mexican restaurants in SGF...period. I've eaten here since their opening - at least a dozen times - and had take-out likely twice as much. Cramped? Loud? Yeah, because it's extremely popular. This family-owned, family-run joint is a gem. Food is awesome...even down to the combo meal which is usually a bland afterthought at other Mexican venues. The margaritas are very decent with innovative twists and complimentary to the meal. Sauces, including guac & salsas, are top drawer. It's recommended without reservation...especially since they don't take them... If you want solidly innovative, consistently superb Mexican cuisine with a nice cocktail, then this is the place. If you're a review poser, move on...

Yelp
Amazing food! Amazing drinks! Amazing service! Most places I have a favorite 'go to' meal. I could close my eyes and point at Señor Julian's menu and I'd be happy! Best Mexican in Springfield IMO

James H.

Yelp
The food and service here is amazing, every time we visit! Servers are very attentive with refills on drinks and salsa. Ask for the green salsa, it's fantastic! My go-to appetizer is Julian's Guac, super fresh and love the fresh fried tortillas that come with it. You can never go wrong with the Arroz Julian and top it with a chile rellano, so good! The quesabirria tacos are my other other fave. Packed full of juicy beef and cheese. I've never had a bad meal here, and you won't either! #bestinthe417

Yelp
Good food but don't ask me every two minutes if everything's OK or if I need anything. Let me just chill please.
google avatar

Crystal H.

Yelp
The strawberry margaritas are amazeballs! Food is always on point! We have made this our fav Mexican food and marg spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food perfect atmosphere excellent staff. I had enchiladas. Wonderful!! Salsa is good. Guac was really good. I'll be back. Margaritas to go!!

Yelp
Very good service. Place is a cute. Great bar! Food was delicious We got our food fast during lunch rush. Kids loved what they got

Sally N.

Yelp
First, what was supposed to be a 30 minute wait turned out to be just 15 minutes. Off to a great start. !!! It was our first time there, and the waiter was patient as we questioned items on the extensive menu. We split the fajitas.....combo chicken and steak. The meat was cut into smaller pieces which was different, but it was flavorful. The refried beans were excellent. So overall a good experience.

Yelp
Great service and delicious food! Comfortable environment with some gorgeous artwork hanging on the walls. We enjoyed every minute of our dinner here!
google avatar

Sofie K.

Yelp
We loved our recent visit to Señor Julian's! The place is not big but they have lots of seating, including bar seating. The service was fast and friendly. The menu is extensive. So many choices. My husband got the Torta. I tried it and it was so good! Highly recommend trying it. I got the El Tejano burrito. It was loaded with sausage, chicken, steak, and chorizo. As well as rice and beans and then covered in sauce. It was so good! We loved our visit and can't wait to go back!

Linda P.

Yelp
Food is delicious! Price is right! Service is friendly, fast and reliable! Highly recommend.

Yelp
5 Stars we are traveling across the country with our special needs son! He would not get on an airplane and we had plans to go see the ark in Kentucky all the way from California! We know Mexican food we live in California LOL!! Senor Julian is too top notch!! The food is superb! The service is beyond anything we get in Ca. Honestly the BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! We highly recommend Senor Julian's!!
google avatar

Laura B.

Yelp
Tried for the first time and food was okay. Started out bad when my husband was holding the door open for my mom who is disabled and he was told to close the door. No consideration for the disabled. Salsa was watery and the queso was thin and tasted more like milk than cheese. Taco salad was good but the steak meat for fajitas and quesadilla are cut very thin which we prefer thicker pieces. Quesadilla shell was more soft and not cooked long enough. Also seemed like they were rushing us to finish so we would leave. Just not a great experience and atmosphere. Maybe they were just having a bad day?
google avatar

Isabella B.

Yelp
The food was incredible!! And the cheese dip was the best I have ever had. If I was to give any Mexican Restaurant that award this would be the one. The service was really good they filled our drinks and continued to ask us how our food was and if they could get us anything. The atmosphere was undeniable good!
google avatar

Heather F.

Yelp
Best Pina Colada I have ever had!! My daughter had the mango margarita which she said was the best she had ever had. My son has a Black Margarita that he thought was delicious. Our table ordered the Mi Boy, El Tejano, Enchiladas Suizas, Quesabirria Tacos, and Los Campechanos. We all loved our food! Absolutely delicious! Our server was amazing and so sweet. The owner even dropped to ask how our pina coladas were. Amazing! Everything was amazing. The place was packed! This will definitely be our new go to spot for Mexican food and delicious drinks!

Yelp
Was so excited to try this place when I found out the owners are from my favorite Mexican restaurant in Springfield (Cesar's Old Mexico). To start with, the salsa and Queso were amazing! Honestly, I would return just for that. Margaritas were tasty, but nothing fancy and not that strong. Fajitas were also nothing over the top, but tasted good and the homemade tortillas were delicious. Unfortunately, my experience wasn't 5 star worthy because: 1. Our table was entirely too small for all the food and drinks we ordered. I had to move condiments and a few other things to the floor. 2. My husband's Molcajete was not good at all. The meats were overcooked, rubbery and dry. And there was way too much nopales (cactus). Our waiter was very kind about our feedback and took the Molcajete off the bill. We had no expectation of them doing that and just wanted to give them honest feedback about our meal. I feel like this place has great potential to become a top Mexican restaurant in Springfield once they work through the kinks. Just wasn't a good night for us.
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
In town visiting family and they suggested eating here. Was a little skeptical as other newer Mexican restaurants in town over the years were disappointing. Service was quick and everyone's meal was very good. Not the typical Tex-Mex menu. Very big menu with an authentic style. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Thomas B.

Yelp
This is my second visit to this amazing place. Waiting line both times but moved Very fast. IT IS WORTH THE WAIT!! The food is incredible and the staff is amazing. Great ambiance! Staying next door at The Baymont Inn, this is convenient and great. Just walk to my hotel if I've had too many margaritas. BUSY restaurants are busy for a reason: they provide great food and a great experience. It is definitely worth the trip Hwy 65 and Battlefield Road. KY Tom
google avatar

Madison W.

Yelp
Food was good, but they have GOT to get a bigger space. So many tables crammed in such a small space I was starting to feel claustrophobic. The service was ok, but the waitress wasn't very friendly at all.
google avatar

Rob E.

Yelp
Amazing Food, Amazing Service, Amazing Atmosphere! Food was hot, fresh and fast. I don't live in Springfield but I will eat here every time I am in town!

Kris T.

Yelp
We stopped in on our way through Springfield. We got right in on a Friday night. Our server, Caleb, was fantastic. We got our drinks right away and our food followed very quickly after. We shared an order of chicken fajitas. They were excellent. They make their own flour tortillas so they come out fresh and hot! While it was festive and loud as it is a smaller restaurant, you can still have a great conversation. We would highly recommend it!!

Logan W.

Yelp
Love this place and the service. Excited to see what they do in the future! My favorite meal is taco especiales. The restaurant in a whole is very clean and well taken care of.

Yelp
One of the best Mexican restaurants in town; atmosphere is no frills and is lacking personality but the food is excellent.
