We came here for the first time last night for dinner. It wasn't quite as good as I hoped it would be, but it wasn't terrible. The salsa was really good, so that was a plus. The downside is that the salsa comes in a little bottle that is only filled between 1/3 to 1/2 of the way full, so when you have three people at the table, you have to repeatedly ask for salsa. Half of that little pitcher is only enough for about two people. So that was a bit frustrating.
The main reason we came here was because people recommended the tortillas as being fluffy, delicious, homemade tortillas. Unfortunately, the tortillas were pretty disappointing. They were flat, not fluffy at all. You could still see patches of flour on them, which wasn't a huge deal, but it was definitely not what I was expecting. They did not taste any different than store-bought tortillas to me. We ordered the El Jefe Queso. It was extremely watery. We really could not even take a scoop of it because there was too much liquid. You had to kind of dip your chip in the cheesy water and wipe it off on the side so it didn't leak everywhere on its way to your mouth. Guacamole needed more acid. I wish I would've asked for limes to add to it myself. It also needed more salt. It was really creamy but bland.
I ordered Chicken Tampico. The zucchini was barely cooked and still way too hard, not even al dente, almost raw. The mushrooms were cooked pretty well. The mushroom sauce was OK, but I would've preferred a different sauce after tasting it. The rice was good, especially with the fresh pico. That part I enjoyed. I also loved the fact that the chicken was incredibly thin. I would much prefer that to chicken that is thicker and has more potential to be undercooked.
The service was pretty good here. We constantly had people coming around checking to see if we needed more chips. The chips stayed full pretty much the whole time.
The restaurant was incredibly loud. The table behind us and the people that kept stopping to talk to the folks sitting at the bar height table next to us were unnecessarily loud. Of course, there's really not much the Restaurant can do about something like that, so I don't hold that against the restaurant or anything. I'm just mentioning that as part of the ambience that we experienced.
Would we come back again? Yes, if we're in the area. I'm not sure that I would make a trip from Ozark solely for that purpose though.
