Where to Find Chiles En Nogada in Detroit - Eater Detroit

"This casual taqueria may be known for its takeout-friendly menu of tacos, burritos, and botana, but this spot also features dishes that are otherwise hard to find locally, including the chiles en nogada, which are served with beans and rice. Another house specialty, cochinita pibil, slow roasted marinated shredded pork with the restaurant’s own special Salsa Hidalgo." - Serena Maria Daniels

Google
The food was amazing! I used DoorDash to order a chimichanga dinner, a flauta dinner, and a tamale. All three were cooked to perfection, decent portions for the price, as well as made and delivered hot to my door within a half hour. I recently had some of the worst food in my life DD'd to me from a place I took a chance on, so I want to make sure I also give flowers were they are deserved, instead of just giving negative reviews. This place was amazing and I would 10/10 order again. The tamale was as good as I remember the ones my abuela and I made together years ago. Thank you so much!

Google
Do not, and I repeat DO NOT doorDash from this place unless you want your food to be treated like you’re an animal being served the however, they feel like it they gave me old potatoes that taste like they haven’t changed the oil. This is my first time ordering from this restaurant after a long day of a 10 hour shift. I paid a total of $47 and some change for some old food they didn’t put my taco together for one dinner, but for the other my fries were small portions the rice and the dinners were small portions. We didn’t get any salsa we didn’t receive any for utensils, except a straw for the overpriced drink. I paid for that they didn’t follow directions on. I am disappointed and this was a huge inconvenience for me overall zero out of 10 not recommended

Google
i usually have food delivered from here by doordash, but i decided to stop by and dine in instead. the restaurant was very clean, with a relaxing atmosphere. the sopa azteca was amazing! the flavor was spicy and savory, with the right amount of complexity. great dine in experience, on top of all of my doordash orders always being perfect. the cochinita pibil is my favorite thing to have delivered.

Google
I can’t believe you guys are not seasoning your freaking food. Literally everything on this plate is disgustingly cold and unseasoned. Then to throw the overripe limes in didn’t make it no better. I’ve never in my life had a nasty taco until today. At the hospital and I ordered from here and I’m extremely disappointed. COLD UNSEASONED FOOD!

Madeline Dietrich

Google
I ordered delivery and overall the tacos were good. I think hot sauce or a special house sauce could go a long way for these tacos. It was really reasonably priced with three tacos, rice, and beans being $7. I wish the chicken had a bit more sear and flavor, but it was still yummy.

Google
Stopped for lunch..this is the most tasty and flavorful Mexican I’ve had in Michigan. Don’t bother w Mexico village, stop here and eat they also have drinks and lots of tequila. I would add this to guys diners drive in and dives this place is that great! It’s small 8 tables prices are good but damm the meal was great!

Robert Davis

Google
Great food! Affordable prices. My wife and I had a great meal and spent some quality alone time. This was our first trip to sit down at this restaurant even though we’ve had them on Door Dash before. We had steak quesadillas and they were well seasoned and prepared. We shall return.

Google
Service sucks , the waiter doesn’t even give you extra napkin. Then the soup I had it had no flavor it was plain soup de res was not the way it is . Needs improvement. I sure gulped the soup because I was starving and thinking it was going to be so good and always remember this a a opinion of each and every individual. So I had to finish it!

Yelp
El Senor Lopez is, in my opinion, the best pure Mexican restaurant in Detroit. I say this because they have a huge variety of selection, their prices are incredible, they keep great hours and they specialize in items many restaurants around here screw up. Their pork in green sauce is incredible as their verde topping is extremely flavorful and isn't just some drab, sweet sauce they stick on the pork. Also their Shrimp El Diablo is awesome as the sauce is again, flavorful and packs a kick Their Menudo is the best in the city. I'm a huge Menudo fan (and you should be too as it's a great hangover cure and health item) and theirs has a thick broth, is full of flavor and isn't overloaded with hominy (which I hate). They are open from sun up to sundown and have breakfast lunch and dinner. Their staff is extremely pleasant and it's just a nice restaurant to spend some time at and enjoy your food (or drink). This has been my go to spot for almost 3 years. Go check it out!

Yelp
Super nice restaurant. Great service. The mole' dish was exceptional. Not a big restaurant. Good parking.

Yelp
Ordered through delivery. Prices are very decent. The Enchiladas were okay except I prefer ground beef, and these came with shredded beef. Chicken is also an option. The sauce is a little tomatoey and needs to be better seasoned with garlic and onions. Rice tasted like fried rice. Beans were good.

Yelp
The waitress charged me way too much money for a lunch dinner and a chicken quesadilla. I told her to take a five dollar tip but on my receipt, it was only a dollar tip. My food was supposed to be coming up to 12 something and I found out there was a charge for 17. Something on my card never going back..

Yelp
Señior Lopez is our "go-to" spot for conchinita pabil. It is so juicy & flavorful, we haven't found a place who does it better. They recently renovated the inside and it looks great! The service is always impeccable, and the food is always delicious. I grab a bottle Coke to start, along with their fresh chips and salsa. The queso flamedo is a cheesy, tomatoey dip we enjoy while waiting for our amazing pabil tacos & pabil quesadillas. I can't even explain, you must go give it a try! You will dream about them for the first year. They're addicting! The rice and beans are great, but the perfect ending is the tres leches the have on the menu coming from Mexican Town Bakery! Señior Lopez is hidden on The Michigan Avenue strip in Southwest Detroit. You will miss it if you aren't paying attention! It's a tiny little gem. Their take out is on point.

Yelp
My first time dining here was when I attended a funeral next door. The food was authentic tasting and flavorful, however, there was an overpowering smell of bleach/disinfectant in the whole place. So strong that it burned my throat. Thinking it was a fluke, I tried twice more. Same great food - same overpowering disinfectant. I would have given 5 stars for the food and great service but the smell drops the score down exponentially. Too bad.

Yelp
They have their own parking lot at least. Dingy looking spot but it could be a gem of a hole in the wall spot. They had a chain to let us into the dining area. We were allowed in after the waitress asked if we were here to dine in or carry out. Plexiglas for carry out orders and by the back counter too. We ordered two mandarin jarritos and the waitress brought out the sad looking corn chips and two small ramekins of salsa, which also looked rather lifeless too. The corn chip I had was stale. I had my husband try it in case it was just me. He said his chip was stale as well. It was likely the whole basket. I couldn't believe their corn chips they gave us were totally stale, beyond stale and that they had even given them to us. We had ordered some Mandarin jarritos, didn't touch them after the first bite of their corn chips. My husband and I refused to eat here if the corn chips were this bad. I wasn't going to tell them why, but decided it was important for them to know that their corn chips were stale. We informed the woman behind the counter as well as our waitress. Our waitress looked at us dumbfounded, as if that were impossible. The salsa is also terrible, tasted like watered down tomato sauce. This place was disappointing to say the least. Luckily we weren't far from Mi Pueblo and reverted our plans to go there, since it's consistent and reliable and good.

Yelp
Amazon food and also Amazon prices. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great meal.

Yelp
Thank you, Senõr Lopez, you made a homesick Texas girl very happy tonight! I just moved here a month ago and have yet to try any Tex-Mex here and most times, Senõr Lopez is marked as "too busy" on the delivery apps, but tonight I noticed they were part of the pre-order dinner specials on Uber Eats where you get free delivery and can pick your time for delivery. Firstly, my order was beautifully packaged and arrived warm-ish which is good since it's a little chilly today. I love that you can order one enchilada or one taco as a side and that's what I did and also got the chicken fijitas with rice and beans and a side of flour tortillas. The Al Pastor taco was delicious, as you can tell from my photo, it barely latest long enough to get snapped. High quality meat, perfect seasonings, perfect corn tortillas. The cheese enchilada was not quiet up my alley, but there's certainly nothing wrong with it, it had high quality cheese and a nice tomato sauce. I just like the other kind of enchilada sauce. The real show-stopper were the fajitas: high quality meat, perfectly cooked and seasoned, good amount of bell peppers and onions, rice was almost as good as my mom's and certainly better than mine, refried beans were excellent, I'm actually going to save most of them for a bean and cheese taco tomorrow. Also, the flour tortillas were fantastic. They actually arrived a little undercooked but I just finished them off on my comal and they came out beautifully. I'm so glad I found my little slice of home and can't wait to try their other items like chili relleno, flautas, and green chili pork. And next time, I'm getting at least four of the Al Pastor tacos! Note: they are a Pepsi shop so for real authenticity, you need to have your own Mexican Coke or Dr. Pepper on hand.

Hilary L.

Yelp
Not Tex-mex so do t expect ground beef but the shredded beef is reminiscent of a guisado and very flavorful and tender. Three different salsas all home made. The ranchero was vibrant and pleasing. Two of us dined for $15.00 and are stuffed. Open at seven am, this will be the place I pick up breakfast tacos for my team. Will be back often.

Yelp
Was looking for a place to have lunch and decided to stop here. We were seated right away and given menus, utensils and waters. I ordered the breakfast blt, and it was delicious! The sandwich was loaded with bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado and onion. The bun it was on was super fresh and reminded me of a banh mi bun. The potatoes that came with the sandwich were very fresh. My spouse enjoyed the flautas. Everything here was made fresh! Save room for dessert because the tres leches cake is excellent! The staff here works very hard and they were attentive. I recommend eating here!

Yelp
The service provide by this location was the most professional!! I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to experience dining at an establishment in the SW Detroit area.
google avatar

Yelp
Burritos were terrible, no salsa and full of lettuce. The chicken was really dry and bland. The pork tamale was good.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Excellent food and service every time. Small inside so may be a wait if eating inside
google avatar

Sophie Z.

Yelp
Very bad experience, would not recommend. Maybe their service and quality is worse with COVID, I just don't understand the positive reviews. We ordered takeout- enchiladas verdes, the combination plate, chips and guac, and flan, all vegetarian. The enchiladas themselves were actually good. The burrito on the combination plate, which we asked to be filled with beans, came with chicken. The enchiladas had basically no sauce on them, and the tacos were filled with limp green beans and avocado that was brown (pictured). The rice that came with both entrees was old and dried out, clearly not made today. The guacamole appetizer was not bright green but slightly brown, also not made today. Serving old, unfresh avocado and rice only made me question the freshness of the emchiladas verdes. The flan tasted good, but again who knows how old that was. BUT. What made all of this more disappointing was that we were told the wait would be 30-35 minutes, when in reality it took over an hour for us to get our food. If they weren't even making the food fresh what was taking so long?? Some of the employees inside weren't wearing masks either.

Yelp
Extensive menu, friendly prompt service, great Margaritas for $7.00. Food is fresh and portions are generous. Great value.
google avatar

Andreaus T.

Yelp
Wow this was the best omg god dam chicken was to perfection and the mole was nice and hot with steam I can see the freshness I'll be back to dine in

Yelp
Usually, you get great mexican food, but the establishment doesn't serve booze. Or you can get booze, but you get a lackluster Americanized mexican food. This right here, is one of the few establishments that does both. Usually we do the tacos here, but for some reason they're always out of their lengua. Which is a shame because it's my favorite taco meat in the entire world. That's fine,, there's the Al Pastor, the Carne Asad and the Conchinita. Those are damn good tacos. Don't forget to take a gander at their specials from time to time. Last time we were here they had fried cactus. That was interesting and quite yummy actually. Also, I love their tamales dinner here. It's just out if this world. Anyways, service is pretty good. The staff is way friendly and as attentive as ever. We understand that they could get swamped specially on days where there's only one server for the floor. But she still manages to come check on our table. That's above and beyond stuff right there. And yes, I don't cry about the wait when I know people are just honestly swamped. You guys keep kicking ass... and please have some Lengua next time.

Yelp
Times are tough as I'm writing this review. With many restaurants unable to be fully operational, most are offering exclusively carry out or delivery service. DoorDash helped me find this place, and I figured it's Tuesday so why not. Their menu is quite robust. You have a decent mix of classic Tex Mex and some traditional Mexican. For delivery, we got chimichangas, a fajita, rice, beans and guacamole w/tortilla chips. We were thoroughly satisfied, and the delivery time was reasonable. Familiar flavors, fresh ingredients, and decent portion sizes made this delivery dinner a winner. Only gripe I had was with the flan (very small and quite bland).
google avatar

Joshuah M.

Yelp
Hair in my rice. Food was not very warm. I ordered an assortment of tacos and they were not very good. I am not impressed.
google avatar

Jenn E.

Yelp
I've been getting food from here via DoorDash. It is phenomenal!!!! So fresh and delicious. It's the first place here I actually enjoy the rice and beans as well. Also, I want to add that they didn't have the tamales I wanted and sent a different batch. They apologized but I am not complaining because they are the real thing. This place is authentic as they come
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a long time and they never disappoint. This is a nice little spot to get authentic Mexican food. My dad comes here every time he's in the area, for the same reasons I do, it's the best! I think it's really nice they give you a complimentary taco when you dine in. Free is also nice. That's how much they appreciate business. The quality of the food is just what I look for when eating Mexican food. I feel like mom and pops are in the back hooking it up! And you cannot beat the price! I got two taco dinners, a jarrito and horchata for 18$ Definitely a low key hidden treasure.

Yelp
Its kinda crazy how i found out about this place.....My cousin past away last year n this place is next door from the funeral home he was in so from time to time i order from here in memory of one of my fav cousin an yes there food is awesome
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
I felt completely underwhelmed by the two tacos I tried. The asada taco was lackluster, with some grizzly bits. The pastor taco was lacking in flavor. The selection of salsas was nice, but I do not think I will return.

Kate A.

Yelp
Highly recommend!! Coming from Chicago & trying Mexican food someplace elsewhere is hard but Senor Lopez Mexican Restaurant reminds me of food from home ! It's so delicious from the drinks, to the chips and salsa and taco dinner. Absolutely will come back!! Don't snooze on them!
google avatar

Sifah M.

Yelp
I would never in a million years eat here again. If i could give them 0 stars i would. This was hands down the worst food i have ever eaten from a restaurant. Worst mexican food ever. Chips were stale, rice wasn't cooked all the way, sauce tasted old and flavorless, everything tasted like food that had been left in a freezer for months and microwaved. Like it came out of a can or something. Absolutely horrible. Only thing that was kind of decent was the salsa. I ate a couple bites of both orders and threw everything away. IT WAS THAT BAD. 30 dollars down the drain.
google avatar

Dave F.

Yelp
If I could I'd give this place 3.5 stars. I had the Chile en Nogada, my wife had a chimichanga lunch special, and my big eating 15-yo son had a burrito as large as a house. I enjoyed my dish. As mentioned in other reviews its not a common dish and is certainly not in the vein of common Mexamerican fare. I wanted something different and I'm glad I tried it. It is a sweet dish mildly spiced, so if you're looking for heat try something else. One big minus: the guac. All 5 of us at the table agreed it was subpar. Since good guac is my wife's main requirement for a Mexican joint we won't be back as quickly as I'd like. The wife did agree with me the refried beans with our plates was a notch above average. Nothing to write sonnets about but good enough to note. One of our guests had Caldo de Res. He came into the restaurant feeling under the weather, so had little to eat. He gave my son some beef from his bowl and the boy said it was his favorite bite of the meal. I've had both Caldo de Res and Birria recently at other local joints, and the CdR here looked better than both. I might have that on the next visit. As others have noted diners receive along with free chips and salsa a small soft pork taco. Its pretty good! Add a bit of salsa to it. And on those salsas. 3 are brought to the table. I didn't try either red concoction. Instead I pretty much finished the entire bottle (mini-carafe really) of tomatillo salsa. It was delicious. If they bottled this I would buy it. Great mix of mild-ish heat and citrus-y notes. And finally the gentle price structure. Its gentle, which is nice and helped my wife forgive the poor guac. If the guac improved we'd be back relatively soon.

Yelp
I got the chile en nogada and would never get it again or probably even come back here. The batter used to deep fry the pepper made me feel like I was going to get diabetes! It was just way, way too sweet. Also, I'm a bit squeamish with sketchy meat and the ground beef they used didn't seem to be that great. The presentation was extremely pretty, but other than that, I would never get this again. The rice that was served with the entree smelled/tasted like stale cigarettes (perhaps something got burnt). The beans were the only okay thing I had. Perhaps they have better food, but I don't think I will be back again. I couldn't finish my meal which rarely happens!
google avatar

Prince H.

Yelp
Steak fajita was excellent, for sure, I will be a repeat customers for that. I also had the chicken taco salad it was okay, it was filled with too much none salad items for my liking it had grilled chicken, beans, avocado, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, and it came in a fried flower tortilla. The restaurant itself self is small but very clean, the bathroom was spotless which is a major plus. The waitress was excellent and parking is on the side and was plentiful. My food was $21 for steak fajita dinner and chicken taco salad, I ordered my food to go but she still gave me free nachos and salsa to go! Definitely going back.
google avatar

Brad T.

Yelp
Restaurant was very solid. When I got there they gave me a house pork taco which was lightyears better than my carne asada. The steak was flavored well but a tad dry. The rice and beans were really good, but hard to mess a up rice and beans. Really wish they had chips and queso. But oh well.
google avatar

Yelp
Do not recommend! Ordered Chile en Nogada as I had this dish in Mexico & loved it. However at this restaurant it was horribly over sweet & had a maple flavor to the sauce. I took one bite & sent it back -I could not eat it it was so sweet. I ordered lunch special instead of 2 meat (steak) tacos. Those were very dry- steak was waaaay overcooked & not really seasoned. I ate one but left the other. We got bill & they charged us for the Nogada meal, which was probably the most expensive item on the menu. I did not want to pay for a meal that was inedible. I argued with another server or head cook (I guess that's who it was since our original server was hiding) who said since the order had been put into the system she could not take it out, she also said that I picked at the meal. I told her I had one bite - that's how I knew it was way too sweet & inedible. Then she said the manager wasn't around so she couldn't change our bill. She blamed me for ordering the dish- said I could have picked something that wouldn't have had a 'sweet' sauce. I was very disgusted at the way I was treated and that they would not adjust the bill for an inedible dish that was sent back basically untouched. Do not go to this restaurant unless you want subpar food and really rude & crappy customer service.
google avatar

Anja F.

Yelp
Not bad. Very gringoified--but tasty enough. There's not a lot of heat here and you sort of feel like you are being served a limpid version of some of the best traditional Mexican dishes from that amazing cuisine. They do some of the more difficult platos to pull off successfully like chiles rellenos en nogada which is a traditional wedding/fall offering from Oaxaca and enchiladas suizas from Ciudad de México but it all lacks that subtle oomph that comes from blending different peppers, dried and fresh, to create the base for what makes Mexican food so special. There's more tomatoes than peppers on most of these offerings. Everything just seemed taken down a notch. The extra star is for the fact that they deliver (via UberEats) even to far away Hamtramck, so when you can't get to your favorite, spicier, more interesting, less...well, less everything place, this is a great option. I vacillated between 3 and 4 stars but decided to round up because it's pretty obvious they care about the food and ingredients and it's really not their fault that their customer base wants a blander version of everything. Like I said, it's tasty enough, it's just not authentic.
google avatar

Artie A.

Yelp
$9 Guacamole and it was not even very good. It was also a TINY portion. Literally the most expensive guac I ever bought. To be fair, the server warned us that it's $9 (even though it was listed as $4.50 in the other part of the menu) but we expected it to be a huge amount. The rest of the food was decent, but it was just super annoying with that $9 price tag for a tiny bowl of guac.

Yelp
Senor Lopez is a charming fella, no doubt about it! We ventured out for some mexican today, we found ourselves here. The chips were great! The salsa not so much, very thin rolled right off chips. The service was okay, our server was young and more then likely new, she had no knowledge of menu, she had to go to kitchen and ask to answer our questions. They were out of carnitas, no barboca, as advertised on window and apparently al pastor, because that's what we ordered but not what we got. Senor Lopez was very hospitable and charming, he brought each guest a mini conchinita pibil taco, nice touch, however that is also what they served as their al pastor, so I guess there was a miscommunication somehow?? All in all the food was decent. The azteca soup was delicious. The enchiladas fair, rice and beans iffy. The dining room is very small but cozy so all in all not bad or great. One thing I will add is they offer quite a bit on menu for vegetarians so props for that. I'm not sure if I would return, more then likely not.

Yelp
Good food Small setting. Great Service We stop there often. GREAT MARGARITAS!!!!!

Yelp
This place gives me life. The only thing I'm not feeling is the salsa, a little too watery for me.

Pat N.

Yelp
We came to Detroit for a conference and Yelped Mexican restaurants......we searched and searched and came across Senor Lopez. It was about a 10 minute Uber ride and worth every penny. Not fancy, but looks are deceiving. Food options a plenty and the salsa and gauc were delicious. Our waitress was fantastic and quick. Recommend you go outside of downtown Detroit if you're town for dinner for Mexican.

Yelp
My husband and I recently had an intense craving for some Mexican food and ordered DoorDash from this spot, and greatly enjoyed our meals -- chicken chimichangas, chicken enchiladas and chips and salsa. We received everything we ordered and it was hot and fresh. I PARTICULARLY enjoyed the rice and enchiladas! We will definitely order again in the future!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome service and delicious food! Free chips and a small pulled-pork taco as an appetizer. We had carne asada/lengua/huevos con chorizo tacos and a chimichanga with rice and beans. You can also get 10% off if you post on Instagram :) Definitely coming back

Alexis D.

Yelp
Ending up going here because Xochilmicos was on such a long wait, but it was actually really good. The drinks were good and the enchiladas were decent. I would probably come back here. Their menu is pretty large to with lots of options and good portions.

Yelp
Once again, I'm amazed by a Mexican restaurant that up until about 6 months ago I would have never tried. If you read Dil F's review, you know that it's not in the greatest area of Michigan Ave. You'll generally find the only people on the street in the area are people checking out hole-in-wall restaurants or looking for hookers. But the surprise is inside. Senor Lopez has some great tasting food. 9 of us took the trip today and we all came away very pleased. I ordered the lunch special with an extra taco. I find that comparing tacos is a great way to tell the winners from the "also-rans". The Pastor was tasty and moist, the Asada a bit under flavored, and the Cochinita Pibil ( a marinated pork in a tomato based sauce) was divine. The meats were move chunked rather than shaved as meats in most restaurants are. As usual the tacos were covered with cilantro and onion and accompanied by whole beans and rice. While the beans and rice were acceptable, they were nothing to gush over. One item of note an the menu was the special Chile en Nogada. This was a Poblano pepper stuffed with meat and veggies and then covered with pomegranate seeds, with a sweet sour cream sauce poured over all. This made for a very unique lunch experience. Others ordered tostadas, quesidillas, and burritos and were all very satisfied with their food. The salad and all the food was extremely fresh and flavorful. When we arrived chips and salsa were brought to the table. I found that the salsas were some of the most fully flavored salsas I have ever tasted in M-town. One mild sauce, one hot sauce that really hit the spot, and a chile-pepper paste mole that can stick in the back of your throat and make your sinuses clear like no other. Senor Lopez also serves alcohol, so you can wash down all of your good eats in style if you prefer. Senor Lopez is definitely a place that I will be trying again.

Yelp
I used Ubereats to order from here today. Let me be clear when I write these reviews Im not here to lie to anyone or to try to make a place look good when they are not I'm not trying to win likes or friends in here to tell my truth. Understand that everybody taste buds are different some people ain't never been nowhere but southwest Detroit for Mexican food so when they say something is good it might be to them because that's all they know. I have done a little traveling and tasted Mexican food from other states particularly Texas and it's way different from what we get here in Michigan or Southwest Detroit,it's more authentic, however the most authentic would be in Mexico which I have never been to to compare. I ordered from here because of the reviews and I was pretty much disappointed which I already know when ordering from the list of Ubereats that there is 50% chance it won't be good. I ordered the Chimichanga meal it's two chimichanga and your choice of two sides but really if you order anything else besides rice and beans as a side you only get ONE side, so not fair! Because they dress the chimichanga with sour cream, qaucamole, lettuce, cheese it's pretty soggy by the time I got it, had I known they do that I would have asked them to put all that on the side. I ordered the Carne Asada meat for the Chimichanga I wasn't impressed with it I only ate half of one of them. I ordered two tacos, one chicken, one pork. The chicken comes cut up in small cubes and it was dry I was expecting it to be shredded, it was just ok and the pork one was good it was shredded they both come with Cilantro and onions. I ordered a salad as my side with the chimichanga dinner beware the salad comes laced with lots of tomatoes and pieces of avocado I happen to be one who doesn't like avocado, I know right who doesn't like avocado lol I have never liked it. I also ordered salsa and chips this was a big mistake! The mild sauce is watery I'm not sure why would they keep making something many people have complained about if it ain't good make it a different way people only eat it because you keep putting out on the tables this stuff is not good! I make better salsa than this it just didn't have any flavor at all I'll keep it and freeze it I'll add it into a vegetable soup for color it's the only thing out my order I can hang onto and make useful. Some folks are saying it's the best place they ever ate at I'm thinking maybe I ordered all the wrong stuff or either these folks don't get out of Michigan much. I won't order from here again I can't waste my money for stuff I can't eat all of. And some of you Yelpers need to stop lying about some of these places just tell the darn truth it won't hurt you!

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time because of a Groupon. They were very kind on the phone as I placed my carry out order, but when I got home I was very unimpressed with the quantity and quality of the food. When we ordered the Señor Lopez fajitas, we were not asked if we wanted steak or chicken. Also, we ordered a shrimp dinner that came with six or seven shrimp and a small amount of rice and beans. Overall, not impressed, but since it was a Groupon, I didn't spend that much money.

Yelp
Fantastic food, but even better than the food though was the service! I originally placed an order on GrubHub to try this place out and to treat my work team to a delicious Mexican lunch. However, the driver ended up stealing our rather large order instead of delivering it to us. GrubHub thankfully took my anger in stride and promptly refunded my order. There was no fault on Senor Lopez's end, so I called them up again, explained the situation, and asked them to remake the order for me to pick up in-person. When I came to grab the order, they flat out refused to accept any money from me and would only settle for a good tip. Thank you again to the staff at Senor Lopez. I will be back for more!!

Yelp
Since it's Cinco de Mayo today, I was thinking of all the good Mexican food I've had here in metro Detroit and this place immediately popped into mind. I'm rating this solely on their Cochinita Pibil as it's the best version I've ever had of this. It's a slow-toasted tender pulled pork type dish served with beans and rice. The pork is sopped with a nice orangish sauce with amazing flavor. I don't remember really anything else except for this pork and am drooling thinking about it. This place isn't in the greatest of areas, and is small inside, but sometimes the best soulful food comes from places like this. Trust me...it's worth it!

Yelp
Had a chicken burrito for lunch. It was a little drier than I am used to but still ok. Chips and salsa were average. Food here is inexpensive. The restaurant appears to be in a bad part of town but the diners inside were ok and diverse. My service was excellent. I am going to be generous and give it a 3 because this was my only chance to eat here. Maybe other dishes are better.

Yelp
I wish there was a three and a half button because that is what Señor Lopez would receive. The service is so so being that there is only one service person so this is why the three and not the four. The second reason I did not rate higher is because of inconsistencies in my dining experiences. I went on two separate days and both times had the chips and salsa that comes before the meal, first day was spot on second time not so much. They give you a free mini pork taco and this also had a whole different taste profile. I will try again because the third time is usually the charm... We shall see.
