I enjoyed my experience at Seoul Garden! While generally a bit sweeter than I prefer, the food was good (ESPECIALLY the Haemul Pajon) and the service was even better. Allow me to elaborate.
I am Korean. And among Korean people, there is an unspoken special care that one comes to expect when they enter an establishment run by other Korean people. Even though we may have never met the staff, there is an expectation to be treated like you're a brother, sister, mother, father, or at the very least, a close cousin. Nobody is a stranger in a Korean restaurant. It's a part of the culture.
The staff at Seoul Garden did exactly that. They took care of my family and I from start to finish. They treated my children like they were their nieces and nephews, treated my wife and I like family. So much so that we would return to eat just to see them. Service was outstanding.
The food was good. Wasn't the greatest I've ever had, but definitely better than a lot of other spots I've eaten at. Like many of the spots around town I think that some of the food that tends to be popular among my non-Korean friends have been understandably catered to their western palate. Some of the food was a bit sweeter than I preferred, but generally the meal was good.
However, there was one menu item that completely blew me away.
The haemul pajon was pretty stinkin amazing. When you order this dish at most Korean restaurants you get a thin little cake that's mostly batter. But here, it is thick, fluffy, and absolutely loaded with appropriate vegetables and seafood. When dipped into their homemade ganjang sauce that they give you, it's pretty sublime. It's exactly how mom used to make it.
Overall, like I said in the beginning, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Seoul Garden. The staff was caring and the food was pretty good. If I could offer just one small critique it would be to ease off on the sweetness in the Kalbi marinade and the tangsooyuk a tad. Don't change a thing with the pajon!
