Scout Review - Downtown - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Scout feels like the setting for a lumberjack-themed Project Runway challenge - there’s a lot of tartan fabric everywhere - but it somehow still feels chic. It’s the hotel bar for Thompson Seattle, but you’ll enjoy a trip there even if you’re not staying in the hotel. Sit on one of the very comfortable bar stools and toast with some Aperol spritzes or a couple of brambles." - Aimee Rizzo

I’ve lived in this building for years and Kaleb been a consistently excellent building manager. He’s helped me move into multiple different units in the building as my needs have changed over the time i’ve been living here. He’s made the transitions between apartments easy and hassle free. Any issues I’ve had with the building I’ve been addressed promptly by Kaleb and Joelle (who is also awesome). You can tell he genuinely cares about the tenants of his building. He makes an apartment building in the middle of Downtown Seattle feel like home.

Lorena was pleasant to work with and helped me make an informed decision. I’m moving from across the country and I know very little about Seattle so I needed to do a ton of research. I’ll admit that I didn’t see much value between many of the lovely living options in downtown and Google did very little to paint a pleasant image of the overall situation as well. Lorena gave me the confidence I needed to have an open mind, and behold— the perfect unit presented itself! I live at the edge of a California desert surrounded by lovely mountains and would only trade this view for something I felt could inspire me in the same way when looking outside my window. Lorena helped me achieve that purpose and now I’m a city boy. 2025 Edit: The customer service is absolutely amazing. Any issues with my unit and the front desk is always ready to serve our needs. Baleigh is a delight to have on hand for any questions and always responds immediately to any queries or concerns. Joel is a fantastic maintenance tech and has been instrumental in keeping my business here at Sequel as well. I’ll be sure to refer this place to my friends and family who often ask how I lucked out in finding it. Then I remind them that I’m Irish!

Rotten tomato in stairway for 6 months and fly problem in walkway/ lobby 4 month later, I’d like to update my review. The tomato still hasn’t been cleaned. They also implemented a new fee after increase our rent this year by $300 after being great tenants and never missing a payment to community fees of $56 a month.

Warning: Do not move into this apartment! My boyfriend and I moved into apartment 306, and while it was quite nice initially, our experience took a turn for the worse after two months when our neighbors moved in. Their dog began barking incessantly whenever they left. In an effort to resolve the issue, we left a polite note suggesting ways to work together to minimize the noise. Unfortunately, they reacted violently, yelling and banging on the walls, claiming it was their right to make noise. This hostility lasted about a week. To make matters worse, these neighbors have also been shouting racial slurs out of their window. As a Black woman, this situation is incredibly distressing, especially knowing that gun violence is a concern in Seattle. I reported this incident to Caleb, but he did nothing to address the problem. In general, if you ever need assistance, Caleb is rarely available, and even when he is, he fails to resolve issues effectively. I strongly advise against moving here.

My experience was awesome! Happy to be apart of a great community with great amenities Kaleb helped with a seamless transition. Thanks Kaleb!

Google
Kaleb is great! He always addressed any concerns we had. However, the building itself has a lot of issues. Don’t rent on the 10th floor—the AC unit frequently breaks down for weeks at a time. Additionally, there’s a halfway house next door, and homeless people often camp out near the garage entrance, doing a lot of drugs and just huddle up hanging out. Trucks also park in the alleyway, blocking access to the parking area. There have been many times I’ve had to sit in my car for over 6 minutes just waiting. If you’re sensitive to drugs, this place is not for you. Residents smoke inside their units, and the smell seeps through the walls, making your entire unit smell like a dispensary. I hope Kaleb gets promoted one day to work at a better building—he seems to receive little to no support when these issues arise, and it all falls on him. If you’re 19 and don’t mind smoking, homeless encounters, or constant maintenance problems, this place might work for you.

Want to get packages stolen? Move here. Have staff look at cameras, tell you that they saw another resident take it, and then proceed to do *nothing* about it. Super frustrating. Also there was dirty panties in my unit upon move-in, fabulous <3

The apartments in this building offer great value for money. I was particularly impressed by the newly renovated work area on the ground floor. The community manager, Kaleb McLain, was outstanding—he extended his working hours to give us a thorough tour, all while maintaining a friendly and welcoming demeanor. The only downside for me was the lack of balconies. However, I highly recommend checking out this building if you're in search of an apartment.

Yelp
Lived here for 2.5 years... it was great the first couple of years but in the last few months there have been significant negative changes with the property management and tenants. It used to be a quiet building and now it's like a college dorm some nights. Loud music, tons of smokers (in a "non-smoking" building, and maintenance requests take weeks to months to be processed. My dishwasher leaked and destroyed the floors in the kitchen and it took 7-8 weeks to fix. They also didn't fix the leak the first time and it kept happening despite letting them know. 3 of 4 maintenance requests this year took over a week to be fixed. We've had a ton of turnover lately in the property management department. I think 3-4 people in the last 6 months, Greystar must be a crappy place to work. They are also facing a price fixing class action lawsuit. Now they want us to move our cars out of of our leased parking spots for a week with a 6 day notice and no alternatives or concessions. Finding alternative secure parking downtown will cost $300 or more, which is the amount we pay to lease these spaces. I'm currently out of town and if I don't return in this small window, they'll tow my car and charge me for it. Rent here if you want a landlord that breaches their lease agreement, take forever to do repairs, and do not care about any inconveniences you face. But they call it a "luxury" apartment.

Yelp
Forced to use package delivery service from hell and unethical management that doesn't care about residents Greystar (managing company for Sequel) wants to avoid package liability, so they've hired this company Fetch to deliver packages to Sequel residents. Fetch is a predatory, most incompetent company I've ever had the displeasure of knowing. Your packages are always late, they get delivered the next day at best. So it defeats the purpose of Amazon Prime. And they lose your packages all the time. To get your package back, you have to email them and call them constantly. But their customer service is non-existent, so most of your emails will be ignored and phone calls will be on hold for hours. Prepare to spend many hours every month trying to get them to deliver your package. Even if you're lucky and they recover your packages, it'll take weeks (of emailing and calling them everyday). But it's common for them to not find your missing package at all. I don't even remember how many of my packages they've lost. Now I just can't order from certain websites. You won't be to opt out because UPS and FEDEX will always re-route their packages to Fetch, even if you tell them not to do it. The simple act of online ordering and receiving package has become a very infuriating, stressful, and time-consuming nightmare. And don't forget, they charge you a few hundred dollars a year (per person) for the honor of losing your package! Despite numerous complaints, the management continues to force Fetch on the residents. This shows how much they care about your well-being. As a resident, I feel voiceless and powerless. By the way, one of the staff working in this building wrote a 5-star Google reviews for this apartment and Greystar. This is unethical as it's clearly conflict of interest, so I took more stars off for that. Telling their own staff to write a 5-star review for them is a sad attempt by Greystar to boost their rating. In the future, I'll avoid apartments owned by Greystar or uses Fetch. But hey, don't trust me, go read Fetch and Greystar reviews on other websites. Apartment-wise, the inside is nice but the noise from outside is very loud. I'm often woken up in the morning. And the walls are very thin, so there isn't a lot of privacy.

Yelp
Thin walls and windows make these apartments very loud. Garbage trucks almost daily in the alley at 5-6am will wake most normal people up. The hotel plays music and has lots of guests making noise which is not blocked by the closed windows. For "new" and more expensive buildings, this is probably one of the worst when it comes to quality. It does NOT have gas stoves which many others in the area do. The washing machines are older and loud. We picked our unit because it had decent space for the price but would have gladly spent the extra $200 a month to have a building with proper sound insulation and appliances that meet the expensive building standards/expectations we've seen in other locations. Moving into the building is also one of the worst experiences we've had. You have to take two elevators (one down from the loading dock, then another up into the building) which also requires doing a 180 when you exist the elevator to get into the next one making any medium to larger furniture almost impossible to move in. Also tight corridors and clutter from the hotel operations can get in the way.

Yelp
I am not sure what management is like now but 2017-2018 was a pleasure living in this building. I have wonderful memories and the apartment had everything one would need to live downtown. Being next to a beautiful rooftop bar was bonus and living across pike place market absolute dream. If you can "afford" to give yourself some time in this type of environment it will last your forever :)

Yelp
These apartments are poor at best. I lived in a unit that faced the alley, however the management fails to inform you that all garbage trucks pick up directly below you. To add a sprinkle on top, being that it is connected to a hotel, the garbage/recycling dumpsters can be picked up at generally any time at night. Kiss your precious sleep goodbye. Additional shortcomings are walls being VERY thin and hearing everything your neighbors may be up to, as well as poor management. I was overcharged hundreds of dollars on rent, due to the billing system 'assuming' (Managements words) I was re-signing my lease as month to month, even though I had not made an agreement to do so and it being outside the 30 day window that I had to re-up the lease. This was followed up by management stating they will not refund this and I would expect this to be cut on the move out check. I only received the money back by putting a stop payment on the amount and reissuing the correct payment. To top it all off, had I re-upped the lease, it would be increasing by HUNDREDS of dollars. This is a beautiful city with many wonderful places to live, but unfortunately, Sequel is not. Go figure, it's Greystar. It appears the management is removing negative reviews, so as mine is removed, I'll be deleting and reposting this review as needed. Good riddance.

Yelp
I'd advise anyone considering an apartment at Sequel to look elsewhere. My wife and I have been living here a few years but will not be renewing our lease again. Since we first moved here the place has regularly gotten less well looked after, and management seems to have decided to put profit ahead of all else. The on-site office staff are always helpful and cheery but that's really where the attempts at resident satisfaction stop. Rent isn't absurd for the area but it's well above what you're getting here, in general the units are well appointed and maintained but as others have said noise from neighbors, the alley, and most of all the Thompson hotel next door is a constant issue. The Thompson's rooftop bar must be the only thing that generates any income in the property because it's the only thing that gets any consideration. The hotel lines up guests to the bar in the shared courtyard which frequently blocks entry to the front doors of the apartments, and night after night plays ridiculously loud music from about five until nearly midnight. We're in our twenties, we can usually get along with loud music, but when we've got our windows shut and the tv turned up way too high but still can't hear over the music from the hotel next door, the hotel operated by the same people renting to us, we really start to wonder if our tiny one bedroom apartment is worth $2,500.00 a month.

Yelp
Apartment was better previously but with new management it is hard to stay in this place.

Yelp
You get what you pay for. Its a bit pricey for what it is but the amenities are excellent. Basically youre living in a hotel leas housekeeping and laundry, though everything has its price.

Yelp
We've been living at the Sequel for almost a year. Absolutely love the convenience of this place. Beautiful apartments, central city location. Being attached to the Thompson Hotel and having access to their facilities makes life so easy. Particularly their in room dining and dry cleaning service. The management staff are incredibly helpful, particularly when my husband had surgery. They went above and beyond. This apartment is unique, with its monthly social gatherings, it gives a real community feel in the city.
