The 21 Best Restaurants In Margate

"A slice of French glamour in Margate, Sète seduces with the sound of corks popping, a snack menu scrawled on the mirror like lipstick kisses, and flickering candles come evening. The wine bar is an intimate and cosy space which suits bringing someone you want to, well, get intimate and cosy with. Sitting on the pavement seating, which faces a busy street, breaks the fantasy a little. Instead, head to the suntrap garden—the light will bounce off your glass and glistening anchovies on toast, and make you look like your best self. " - jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Sète

"A characterful, bow-windowed former sweet shop is the home for this lovingly run restaurant located on the road between Margate and Broadstairs. In a fairly small space, the passionate team have managed to combine a restaurant, a wine bar and a bottle shop. The kitchen fuses some classical French techniques with a distinctly British, produce-driven approach, where nothing is overworked and the natural flavours of a few key ingredients are the driving force. The blackboard-written menu is ever-changing, but expect the likes of curried lamb mince or braised squid and peas." - Michelin Inspector

A wonderful spot for dinner. The set menu is surprisingly good value too, letting you try some of the best items on the menu at a discount (2 courses for £20 or 3 for £23). The star of the show was surprisingly the Courgette, Salsa Macha and Tofu, which was one of the set menu options and one we wouldn't have picked normally. But the pork rillettes, chicken schnitzel and roast peach with goats curd and walnut were all superb too. A great spot that's strongly recommended.

Wow wow wow! This place is a gem. I feel very lucky to have gotten to eat here. We went on a Tuesday and got to experience the The £23 / 3 course set menu. It is honestly outrageously good value for the quality of the food you are eating, we couldn’t believe our luck. It was one of the nicest meals we have had out. The venue itself is beautiful, the service was absolutely gorgeous and the food was just so fresh and delicious. If you don’t have allergies I would suggest ordering one of each food item off the menu so you get to try everything. It’s very rare you come out of a place and can’t fault anything about it. I’ll be talking about this place, and recommending to anyone that plans on going to Margate. Thank you for a wonderful experience. ❤️

Such a cool spot ! Great bar at the front with excellent choice of drinks and snacks, with an ‘aperitif hour’ - £5 for a glass of wine !! Inside the restaurant is decorated nicely looks like a classic French bistro, old wooden chairs and the menu written in chalk on a blackboard. Very good value ! Set menu was delicious, carefully produced, seasonal dishes that had amazing flavour. Highly recommend !

Wonderful and unexpected little gem hidden away in the back streets of Margate. Went for a midweek treat and were blown away by the quality of the food on offer with a choice of two starters, mains and desserts as part of their special early week offer. Arriving between 4-6pm we were also able to enjoy any of their wine selection for £5 a glass and were delighted with our choice of orange wine. Service was warm and friendly and they were so helpful in dealing with my dietary restrictions, they really couldn’t have done more. Definitely somewhere worth travelling to and I look forward ti a return visit.

Pleasant atmosphere and friendly and welcoming staff. However, the menu is very limited, and the portion sizes are surprisingly small. The food was greasy, and the main courses arrived lukewarm rather than hot. Unfortunately, there is also nothing suitable for children on the menu. On top of that, the prices are extremely high considering the quality and quantity of what is served.

A Masterclass in Culinary Artistry at Sete, Cliftonville. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Masterclass in Culinary Artistry at Sete, Cliftonville Following a splendid weekend in London, my wife and I returned to Margate with appetites still in search of something exceptional. Sete in Cliftonville had been on our radar for some time after a glowing review by Grace Dent, and we were delighted we finally made the visit. From the moment we arrived, the evening unfolded with polish and warmth. We were graciously welcomed by Amy, whose service throughout was exemplary. Her knowledge of the menu and thoughtful recommendations elevated the entire experience, striking the perfect balance between professionalism and genuine hospitality. The menu itself is a study in well-executed restraint and intelligent flavour combinations. We began with vol au vents filled with rich, savoury duck, a nod to classic French cuisine made relevant and refined. This was followed by an exquisitely fresh crab preparation, a superbly silky taramasalata, and a simple yet flavour-packed melon dish, delicately accented by a sublime almond sauce that lingered on the palate with finesse. For mains, the perfectly cooked pork and the sea bream, each presented with harmony in their respective sauces, demonstrated a chef not only of technical skill but of remarkable culinary intuition. Andy’s work from the open kitchen was both mesmerising and reassuring. The sight of a chef so focused yet composed is always the hallmark of a refined establishment. To close, a feather-light meringue and a deeply satisfying chocolate ganache brought the experience full circle. Each course was a reminder that great food is both an art and a craft. The ambience was understated, inviting, and tastefully considered. It allowed the food to take centre stage while subtly encouraging diners to savour rather than rush. Watching the kitchen team work in quiet synchronicity was a further testament to the restaurant’s calibre. Just to make it even better, it is truly dog friendly. A thoughtful and welcome touch for those of us who like our four-legged companions to be part of life’s finest moments. Sete offers something quite rare. It is a dining experience that feels both intimate and elevated, a culinary gem not only in Margate but on any discerning food lover’s map. A triumph from start to finish.

What an exquisite little place this is. Was in town on a work trip looking for a weeknight solo supper and I seriously lucked out stumbling in here. Their set menu (Tues-Thurs) is incredible value for the quality of the food. Two courses at £18 is only slightly more than I paid for a posh snack somewhere else. And only a few quid more (£21) for a pud too. Two choices for each course, and various extras (potatoes, greens, cheese) to add on as you wished. I had the generously sized haggis bonbons, a perfectly tender slow cooked lamb with chickpeas, and a beautifully light chocolate mousse. Portions goodly sized, had I been dining with someone I would have had a side but not needed, and saved me room for dessert. Alas no booze for me on this occasion but was surrounded by people quaffing delicious looking and smelling things. I had a honey and rosemary soda which was sweet and interesting. Service was warm, friendly and efficient, and I felt perfectly welcome sat alone with my book. Highly recommend

I’m a bit torn with my experience at Sète. On the one hand, the food itself was tasty and well prepared, and the service was genuinely lovely. On the other hand, the portion sizes and pricing left me very disappointed. For example, my chicken schnitzel was literally just a single breast on a plate of sauce with a tiny drop of remoulade, no vegetables or potatoes, nothing to make it a full meal. The cheese board was equally underwhelming. At £14 I’d expect a generous selection, yet what arrived were four wafer-thin slivers of cheese that you could almost see through. The wine pricing was also surprising. The bottle we ordered had at least a 200% markup. That might be expected in a prime central location, but not on Northdown Park Road. To put it in perspective, over the whole evening we had: half a courgette, one large tomato, one chicken breast, around 30g of cheese, half a baguette, a small slice of cake with ice cream, and a £15 bottle of wine. The bill came to £120. In summary, while the cooking and service were both good, the value for money was not. For the price paid, I expected more substance on the plate and more generosity overall.
