Sète

This was my first visit to Séte and I absolutely loved it. As a solo diner, I didn’t know if the menu would work, but it was perfect. I started with a cocktail, then enjoyed a couple of glasses of riesling along with the incredible food. One of the best meals I’ve had in Margate for a long time and super friendly with chilled atmosphere, I will be back.

Came down to Margate for a long weekend/stayed in local Airbnb near Sete & host recommended us to try it… We weren’t disappointed. Loved place… We arrived just before 6 pm and made use of their happy hour deal , £5 for a glass of wine, in fact had two lol You were seated in the back room on the condition that we vacated the table by eight as a large party was coming in which was fine for us as we had a dog with us (so the place is dog friendly) The cheddar rarebit was great and similar to its namesake… My wife went for the vegetarian cauliflower main course followed by the chocolate desert, which was the two course menu option. I went for the rarebit and braised lamb main, with matching wine which was superb…. Overall, the food was to a high standard and the service excellent. The bill was £113. Which wasn’t too bad compared to what it would cost in London….. Very enjoyable evening, if we’re back in Margate, we’re definitely come again

A wonderful spot for dinner. The set menu is surprisingly good value too, letting you try some of the best items on the menu at a discount (2 courses for £20 or 3 for £23). The star of the show was surprisingly the Courgette, Salsa Macha and Tofu, which was one of the set menu options and one we wouldn't have picked normally. But the pork rillettes, chicken schnitzel and roast peach with goats curd and walnut were all superb too. A great spot that's strongly recommended.

Wonderful and unexpected little gem hidden away in the back streets of Margate. Went for a midweek treat and were blown away by the quality of the food on offer with a choice of two starters, mains and desserts as part of their special early week offer. Arriving between 4-6pm we were also able to enjoy any of their wine selection for £5 a glass and were delighted with our choice of orange wine. Service was warm and friendly and they were so helpful in dealing with my dietary restrictions, they really couldn’t have done more. Definitely somewhere worth travelling to and I look forward ti a return visit.

Wow wow wow! This place is a gem. I feel very lucky to have gotten to eat here. We went on a Tuesday and got to experience the The £23 / 3 course set menu. It is honestly outrageously good value for the quality of the food you are eating, we couldn’t believe our luck. It was one of the nicest meals we have had out. The venue itself is beautiful, the service was absolutely gorgeous and the food was just so fresh and delicious. If you don’t have allergies I would suggest ordering one of each food item off the menu so you get to try everything. It’s very rare you come out of a place and can’t fault anything about it. I’ll be talking about this place, and recommending to anyone that plans on going to Margate. Thank you for a wonderful experience. ❤️

TLDR: The staff gosipped about our food choice near us, rushed us off our table and were generally quite rude. We booked a table at Sete for a meal a few months ago, but as the menu isn't released until the week of your booking it ended up not being something we wanted (we're vegetarian and I cannot stomach yet another head of cauliflower charged at almost the same price as pork schnitzel). Instead, we went to casa a bit earlier for a pizza and then headed to Sete to honour the booking and have dessert and some more drinks. Initially the staff were fantastic, but after we'd sat down and they learned we only wanted to order a dessert and some drinks their entire tone changed. They were rude, short with us and generally gave the impression we'd offended them. Worse, we clearly overhead the owner and waitress moaning about us (they were stood directly behind us when this happened, and was frankly mortifying.) Once we'd finished our food, they told us to move to the front bar with no notice (and without asking if we wanted anything else) and had us stand without seats for several minutes so they could move another couple onto our table. Frankly, their treatment of us was disgusting and unprofessional. They clearly think you're not worth their time if you deviate from what they expect - despite the fact we still spent a lot of money with them. As locals, we won't be going back - there are dozens of better, nicer and more reasonably priced restaurants on Northdown Road.

I’m usually the kind of idiot Londoner who will be happily overcharged for decent food and wine but the pricing/ portion size of mine and friends meal left us baffled and feeling a bit cheated. Seams they’ve scraped the previous offer of ‘mains’ and the portion sizes last night were a lot smaller than the pics from previous reviews, so maybe this is a recent change? You would need at least at least 4 of their small plates to constitute one plate of food for one person - which would set you back a healthy £50-£60 - just about stomach-able if your talking fine dining, which this is not. £5 for 4 tiny rounds of baguette was actually laughable but we were stuck buying more of it as there was nothing else on the menu of any substance. Wine was fine (though pricey) dining space lovely, service very slow and understaffed.

Such a cool spot ! Great bar at the front with excellent choice of drinks and snacks, with an ‘aperitif hour’ - £5 for a glass of wine !! Inside the restaurant is decorated nicely looks like a classic French bistro, old wooden chairs and the menu written in chalk on a blackboard. Very good value ! Set menu was delicious, carefully produced, seasonal dishes that had amazing flavour. Highly recommend !
