The 15 Best Restaurants In Cape Town - Cape Town - The Infatuation

"Because Cape Town has such an international dining scene, visitors often arrive in the city and wonder what South African food actually is—and the country’s diverse heritage makes it a challenge to pin a definitive answer down. But the chef at Seven Colours Eatery does an excellent job of highlighting much-loved local dishes that many people still cook at home. For example, you can try boerewors, a type of spicy sausage, served with relish and maize porridge, and vetkoek, or fried dough, stuffed with mince or cheese and jam. Whatever you choose, you’ll leave this restaurant with a new love for bread cooked on an open flame." - mary holland

Experience the Best Restaurants in Cape Town

"A casual neighborhood spot named for a traditional family meal, this eatery celebrates South African comfort flavors with dishes like tshisanyama chops and a signature burger topped with chakalaka (spicy tomato-and-bean relish) and amasi cream served on freshly grilled roosterkoek. The chef-owner aims to reimagine what a local South African restaurant should showcase, making familiar home ingredients central to the menu." - Sarah Khan

Lovely staff and absolutely delicious food. I will say this, it is the first time in a very very long time that I have such a nice meal in a restaurant, I would give 6 stars if I could. Very nicely prepared, not too salty or too bland, not too spicy or too whatever, everything was perfectly cooked and the flavors perfectly balanced. The dessert was also great, not too sweet, very fresh and delicate flavor. Had the ginger drink, and once again, it hit the spot. I will be recommending this place! 💛

This is a must go if you are in Cape Town and want to experience an authentic South African meal. The staff is extremely kind and passionate about their food heritage. There were so many meals which were all extremely flavorful. My favorite was the oxtail. Don’t miss this great opportunity if you are in town!

This is the best place for authentic South African food! Every time I visit, I discover another new delicious item and the service is fantastic! Every staff member provides excellent recommendations. I love seeing what the specials are each day and definitely leave room for dessert because their malva cake is amazing!

Delicious, warm, inviting, tastes like it was cooked from the heart for the soul to bless the tummy lol. Hospitality was great! The manager (I think she was) who waited on us was warm, attentive, friendly. Everything from the appetizers to the main course and dessert hit the spot. We got the oxtail as one of the many dishes and it came out steaming fresh off the stove. I thought I had a picture of it to include here but can’t find it. We already had a reservation and came as part of a tour group fyi so there was no wait. Extra happy knowing we were supporting black business in Cape Town. The culinary experience in Cape Town has a place in my heart 🥲🫶🏾

UPDATE: The Seven Colours daily plate has drawn me in for two more visits (third and fourth in total) as I work my way through the menu. On visit 3 the Hardbody chicken and Samp were my choices. On the 4th stop, Oxtail and Turmeric rice provided the best combination yet! I don't like spinach, so I've asked to have that side dish left out, but was very pleased, on visit 4 when my partner was along, that a little dish of my spinach was brought for them! The staff here are so friendly and welcoming, and the food is amazing. I'm hoping to have another visit before heading home. Such a wonderful experience! We each had the daily option, although my partner had the Beef Potjie with Samp, and I had the Cape Malay Pulled Chicken and Steamed Buns. All were delicious. The Chakalaka was my favourite from the four side dishes, but all were good. My partner had the Rooibos Iced Tea, and I had the Brutal Fruit Ruby Apple. Considering the generous portions, great flavours, and friendly attentive staff, Seven Colours Eatery is quite reasonably priced. An excellent start to our visit! Highly recommended. I would catch a plane from Australia to eat here again. We stumbled across this place in the morning, and was blown away by the mouth watering flavour, and tastefulness of the dishes. The Tshisanyama plate (Brai meats) and Umngqusho Onemboti (slow cooked samp and beans) was already so yummy, and then we paired it with a protein dish - Isityu Senkomo (beef stew) and the two dishes complemented each other so well. 100/100. So lovely and tasty!! Great service as well!

The food is delicious and fresh. The staff is so kind and thoughtful. Highly recommend the lamb tripe and oxtail. The drinks are super tasty (non-alcoholic & cocktails).
