"The search for the perfect Old Fashioned ends at the doorstep of Seven Grand. This North Park whiskey haven is a cozy yet lively spot, offering dark, moody vibes, pool tables, and reasonably priced happy hour specials. Whether you’re a whiskey enthusiast or just looking for a good time, the expertly crafted cocktails will hit the mark. 10 San Diego Spots for a Great Old Fashioned | Eater

"Seven Grand takes whiskey drinking seriously, but not tediously so. This is the place to bring your whiskey snob friends or engage in deep, meaningful conversations over a splendid cocktail. Here, your Elijah Craig Small Batch Old Fashioned will never suffer from over stirring, too much sugar, or a garnish of yesterday’s orange peel. They don’t have a kitchen, but there’s nothing stopping you from walking two doors down to Gelati & Peccati for a couple of slices of Roman-style pizza, then going back for an Elijah Craig nightcap (or two)." - Mary Beth Abate

I was in the area so I finally got to visit this bar. It’s dark inside but looks elegant. It’s got the whisky bar feeling. The bar area is nice. There are two pool tables, a booth, an area for dart games and an open window seating area. The Happy hour menu looks simple. I ordered a happy hour mule and then ordered another one because it was good lol. There’s a speakeasy in the back. I’d love to check it out one day.

Not too bad of a place. Drinks are expensive. They have pool tables and a smoking patio. The downside is that parking is very difficult to find.

Rachel is the Queen of bartenders Anyone can make a drink but she is the ultimate hostess who invites you in wholeheartedly and makes you feel at home By that I mean appreciated and welcomed and she aims to please! Cool atmosphere, great happy hour and cocktails and the band was the topping on the cake! Fantastic music rockin the joint! Thank you 🙏

Awesome place for a great cocktail. I had the opportunity to go in 2 occasions one with live music, blues playing. So nice atmosphere. Recommend.

Google
Such a neat place. We were attending an event around the corner and decided to take a walk around the block to find a coffee shop (I think we found something way better!). Seven Grand is very reminiscent of a pub. We walked in an immediately noticed and loved the plaid carpet and beautiful wood detail throughout the bar. There is plenty to do whether it is sit and chat and make new friends or catch up after work for happy hour and shoot some pool or play darts. Seven Grand has plenty of space inside to sit as well as a nice patio on the outside. They have mainly whiskey based drinks and some draft beers. Seven Grand also sells cigars. There is also a really neat back area which seems to house special whiskey tasting events (more info available on their site). They also have plenty of space to house bands with live music. We made it in time for happy hour and had some really good drinks for a great price. I had an Old Fashion and a Manhattan. Both were tasty but because orange is my citrus of choice I think the Manhattan stole the show for me. My husband had a whiskey sour which he really enjoyed as well (he actually said was one of the best he has had). Service was great, the staff is amazing and very helpful. When we first arrived there were quite a few people but it was really picking up around 6:30 or so. For sure stop by for a visit!

Google
Seven Grand is a gem of San Diego! Awesome bartenders and staff, shelves and shelves of whiskeys, bourbons, and scotches from around the world, amazing hardwood trim, and live music! Went on one of their live music nights and saw some great jazz performers. They have an outside patio and an inside separate area for cigar lovers. Had an old fashioned with rye bourbon and it was delicious. Love the vibe of the place. Come visit when you can!

Google
Loved the atmosphere! Several different rooms to hangout at, billiards and darts available. Prices weren’t absolutely insane, in fact happy hour deals were very good. Bartender made scotch recommendations, turned out great.

Google
Just a quick review on a cool spot in North Park. Lots of whiskeys on-hand and have Happy Hour deals on Old Fashioneds, Manhattans, and Mules. Good drinks for $8. Other than that, have a couple pool tables and dart boards. A nice bar, with a good vibe and location.

Yelp
Great experience last night at the Rey Wolf show. Ambiance was everything. Brought a couple of male friends who love whiskey as this is a whiskey bar. All drinks we ordered were delicious. The vibe was dark and comfortable. The back room had a nice chocolate candle smell to it and great music but I could only stay in there 20 mins due to allergies. The patio was cute, dark with candles but needs a heat lamp. We absolutely would go back as we also had great service.

Yelp
7 Grand: From Restaurant to Speakeasy - A Bit of a Letdown I've got a soft spot for 7 Grand from my first visit, which was awesome - great food, killer drinks, and even a cool tarot reading. But this time? Not so much. They've totally switched up their vibe, ditching the restaurant and going full speakeasy. The atmosphere is still kinda nice, and the bartender was cool, but something was missing. The drinks were good, but nothing really blew me away this time. My cousins and I stopped by, hoping to recreate that magical first experience, but it just didn't hit the same. The space feels different without the restaurant, and the overall experience felt a bit flat. Would I recommend it? Honestly, not so sure

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. A vast majority of people who visit me from out of town are big whiskey people so this is a must do on our list. The selection is great and the bartenders really know what they're doing and talking about. I used to LOVE the back bar with how mellow and chill it was but they've turned it more into a dance club feel. I completely understand why they did it and it is slowly growing on me! (They had a great dj last night)

Yelp
This spot can be a little dank, sticky, and loud, but that's a problem of the clientele more than the venue. Catch it before it gets mobbed and sloppy and it's a real gem. Dive bar meets cigar lounge decor, incredible booze collection, great specials, knowledgeable and fantastic bar service both on- and off-menu. And bring your friends from out of town. It's kind of becoming a modern institution at this point and it's never not a hit with your favorite whiskey connoisseurs.

Yelp
Seven Grand totally reminds me of a 90's Hollywood bar. It's elegant, room-y, and has a fun theme. On a Wednesday night, it was moderately busy and noisy, but my friend and I were able to find a cool spot to enjoy our drinks and catch up. I'm allergic to alcohol, so it was nice to see some options for non-alcoholic drinks. I got a No-jito which was just as good as any mojito I've ever had. All the staff from the doorman to the bartender were friendly.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Seven grand in north park is the spot. They have pool and live music, a smoking section, and a bar in the back. I'm not much a whiskey drinker but it was a vibe in there for sure.
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
Came here on a Monday evening and it wasn't too busy. They are a whiskey bar and have many different choices of whiskey to choose from. But the also can make other mixed drinks as well. There are multiple seating areas inside and a pool table. The lights are very dim inside and have such cool taxidermy decorations. The music was a mixed playlist and enjoyed that also.
google avatar

Sabrina T.

Yelp
I like going out on a good prowl looking for new sights, lights, and night caps but when a dating app prompt asks where I would be if I weren't at home, Seven Grand should be my answer. It has everything I want when I imagine the space I want to be when I go out--cheap(er) cocktails, dark and moody interior, equipped with a great selection of music on a jukebox, lots of decent humans to watch, pool tables for restless company, and a designated area (a cozy one with real candlelight) for me to exist with my friends as they smoke/vape. If I don't spend my entire night here, I find a way to steer the party this direction.
google avatar

Raymond A.

Yelp
Seven grand is the same place its always been. A great place for good drinks, occasional live music. Speakeasy style back lounge. Chill safe, separated spot for the smoking community. Also some highly competitive entertaining billiards on short cramped tables. When its crowded, heated games and talent are noticed and praised. Gr8 place to start or finish a night. Babes a plenty in the 30ish crowd.
google avatar

Zaydian A.

Yelp
I really like the Seven Grand in LA so I had to check out the San Diego location. Being a whiskey guy the drinks here were a solid 10/10, they even had a special on whiskey sours for $8 on a Friday night. Service was also 10/10 for me, bartenders were really friendly and the wait for drinks wasn't bad at all. I also really like the location being in North Park with other bars/restaurants being in walking distance. Would I go again? Yes!
google avatar

Marisa M.

Yelp
This bar confused me a bit. When you walk in, it's a very old school whiskey bar kinda vibe, which was cool but then they also had live music going which was super loud. We kept going to the back room, where they had a disco ball and dj set up, and it was kind of Halloween-themed with specialty cocktails and deco. The drinks were yummy and the crowd was pretty good, but the music was insanely loud. Good place to go if you just want to dance, but if you want to be able to talk at all I'd stay toward the front (at a time when the live music isn't going). Cool that they had both vibes in one though.
google avatar

Yelp
Seven Grand was the last stop of the night for me on a Friday evening and the place was buzzing even around 12:00 a.m. Though I was at a whiskey bar -- where sky's the limit for what kind of whiskies you can try out, I actually ended up ordering two Negronis during my visit. They were made quickly and properly. The bar is LOUD and you should expect to yell in order to have a conversation with your friends. After the band vacates the stage, the stage becomes an area for darts. In addition to darts, you'll also find two pool tables in the main area, as well as an outdoor patio section dedicated to smoking. Overall, solid place to stop by for drinks.

Yelp
Came here on a night of bar hopping with my friends during Halloween. The inside was decorated very well. The selection of spirits is vast, it can get overwhelming. However, the staff here are very friendly and will gladly assist to make sure you enjoy your experience. A more laid back establishment, perfect to wind down your evening, however late it may be.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Good drinks with great vibes. Friendly and attentive service. Came here during the pop up event.
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of fun, great place, outrageous whisky selection and a restroom that makes one feel lucky to walk out alive!
google avatar

Iggy G.

Yelp
Best whiskey bar in North Park by far. Their whiskey sour and penicillins are timeless classics, and their bartenders are quick yet meticulous with their service. They've also got different rooms and the environment is always lively; always a great place for a night out with friends.
google avatar

Cela G.

Yelp
This is nice and chill vibe. They have happy hour everyday from 4-8pm with a selected menu. It's dimly lit and have pool tables and darts. If you don't find sitting in the main patio there's a cigar lounge in the back with nice seating. Parking in north park sucks sometimes so always be aware. The music is dope the vibe is chill. Nice to grab a whiskey drink before heading to north park that's right across the street.

Dave H.

Yelp
Just a quick review on a cool spot in North Park. Lots of whiskeys on-hand and have Happy Hour deals on Old Fashioneds, Manhattans, and Mules. Good drinks for $8. Other than that, have a couple pool tables and dart boards. A nice bar, with a good vibe and location.

Yelp
Very cool place! I'm not a whiskey girl, but the drinks looked good and the ambiance was nice. Bartenders were friendly too! Good spot for a date night
google avatar

Taylor C.

Yelp
I'm not much of a whiskey person or a dim-lighting-ambiance kind of person but I really like Seven Grand. They make really great mules and what's better; they have $8 happy hour drinks. For non-whiskey drinkers, they do have other options available but you can't go wrong with the Happy Hour Kentucky Mule or the Taylor Mule.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Really good happy hour. $8 mules?!? Hell yeah!! So good. Good vibe. Lots of space. Pretty good access to pool tables, cigars and darts. Great spot to hit before a concert up the street. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
My brother just turned 21 and was in town for winter break from university. I brought him here on a Sunday afternoon and was taken care of by John a.k.a. Little John. There were about 8-15 ppl here at the time, but he was attentive, quick to service all the guests, and was even choosing appropriate music/playlists for the environment. I dont know much about whiskeys, and one can easily be intimidated with the library of whiskey on the wall, but John was super cool and down to earth and served my brother a nice taste testing. We both had a great experience very much in thanks to the high level of service. This place is a must if your in North Park. No hype quality bar. Thank you John!

Yelp
How have I never written anything about this place? I have been with my partner for nearly 10 years and I went to Seven Grand before I even met him. I remember being completely overwhelmed when I came in on a date here. At the time, I didn't drink brown alcohols. This was the first place I started. In the last decade, I moved away and back and event visited the Austin location. All without knowing I'd never gotten around to this review. Well this place can get busy. However, any decent spot worth the wait WILL get busy in the evenings and weekends. Don't let it hold you back though. It is worth it. This is a solid first stop for a date night, especially if you can make it to a happy hour. That way you get the bartenders full attention and you can taste a good selection of goodies at a better price point. I have waited a long time for some service but many drinks are more than just a bottle pour, so it will take time to get your mint julep, or old fashioned. Again, don't be a meanie and you'll likely get better service anyways.

Yelp
Friday night, 8:30. We walk up to the two bouncers who are sitting there with no other patrons around. Before we could even start to say anything, we were quickly corrected to be told we were on the wrong side of the line. Ok. There's no.one.here. But ok. Our friend forgot her ID so our intent was to engage and ask if they would accept a picture of her ID. (P.s- we're all well over 40). We were abruptly met with "we don't break the law here". Ok. Great. Not what we were asking you to do- we were simply asking if a picture would suffice and should you say "no" we would move on. To our surprise, the bouncer tells us "have a great night princess" to my husband as we walk away. ARE YOU KIDDING?!? Completely unprovoked, 2 over 40 coupled that just came from dinner looking for an after dinner cocktail are met with rude, unnecessary commentary. No wonder this place was empty. Good luck! BTW- head over to Happy Medium instead. A new local spot with a great atmosphere and fun little spot! Seven Grand is last years news....

Yelp
ID check out front and a chill place on Uni Ave for all your whiskey cravings. I love that their HH is every day until 8pm (on the back page of the menu). While it's definitely different from their house old fashioned (pre chilled and different whiskey and bitters) two of these for $17 is a great night. Or some of the drinks neat for $6 is also a steal. Staff are chill and friendly, and there's 2 pool tables inside with a patio if you don't want to sit a the bar.
google avatar

Jana N.

Yelp
What a great bar! First off, it was like stepping into a hunting lodge with low lights to set the mood and deer heads lining the walls. Secondly, I love that they have happy hour every day from 4-8pm where drinks are $8 (I got the Kentucky mule). The front bar is rather large and the bartenders made sure that everyone got their happy drink orders in before it ended. The space is also bigger than I thought and we wandered to the back area by the bathrooms. They were having a whiskey tasting event for $25 that included 6 tastings and a cocktail. We were informed that we could still participate until 8:15pm, however when we went back to check they told us that the event was closed and we would be drinking irresponsibly if they let us in (I assume he meant that we would be shooting back the tastings?). I would say it was a little disappointing but I guess it is a good excuse to return. Lastly, some observations: that the bar gets really packed later in the evening (nothing new here), but coming at around 7pm was a good idea and you can reserve seats and get in on the happy hour. Also, if you want to play pool we found out that to save your spot in line, you need to put down a dollar. Overall a great experience and I will be returning.
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
Happy hour 4-8 $8 mule, old fashioned, manhattan Bartender with man bun and beard is phenomenal, super efficient and nice. There are pool tables and darts with low lighting for that moody vibe. Seating is a bit sporadic. A lot more standing is happening around the bar once all the seats are filled. Plenty of whiskey to choose from. Cute spot for a date or a larger group hang. That's what we mainly saw on a Sunday evening. Will definitely come back as their drinks were solid.
google avatar

Kristen W.

Yelp
We love that they have a daily happy hour from 4-8pm! We ordered an Old Fashioned and the Manhattan. We enjoyed both drinks, but we wished we tasted more of the whiskey. Staff is friendly depending on who you get. Shout out to Alex at the bar! If you like to smoke cigars with your whiskey, this is the spot. There's a patio for smoking and it's pretty well ventilated. Neither of us smelled like cigar smoke after! There's 2 pool tables in the main room. There's not too much seating, so be prepared to mostly stand. We'll be back to try their other drinks!
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
hmm, i'm not sure if this location was first or if the L.A. one was. but, basically the same vibe. whiskey bar with cigars for purchase as well. my group and i were slowly winding down the night, so it was nice that they also have mocktails on the menu for those who are already multiple drinks deep. the cigar section was decent with some Oliva and Padron in the mix. they also have a very small smoking patio with seating as well for you to enjoy your stogies.
google avatar

Connor K.

Yelp
Whiskey bar with pool tables and some live music. Another bar in the back too. Place is loud and crowded, but it's a good place to try a new pour
google avatar

Liann S.

Yelp
Fun spot, great drinks, live music in the back "speakeasy", pool tables, great vibes.
google avatar

Dmitri R.

Yelp
If you like whiskey, I recommend coming here. The bartenders are nice, the drinks are tasty and the place has a nice, chill vibe. They have a small but nice happy hour menu which makes it a great place to come after work.
google avatar

Raymond C.

Yelp
Fabulous whiskey bar for an evening cocktail with a significant other, friends or colleagues. Bartenders are fast and friendly. I like this spot.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
Door guys were rude which set the tone for a terrible experience. San Diego is full of exceptional bars and this one is not in the group. If I were you, I would pass and go to one of the other great bars along the same strip.
google avatar

Kannica C.

Yelp
Service was very, very subpar. I'm only giving it 2-stars because the drinks we ordered were very tasty. I just couldn't get past how every bartender we encountered was not very friendly. I can understand where they are coming from, working at a pretty busy bar, with some very annoying customers, but it was still an unpleasant experience. I will say, their cocktail server/busser was so sweet! He definitely added to our time there. Overall, the place is very cool and their smoking area is a great place to escape all the chaos. Unfortunately the service wasn't all that great and we probably won't be returning.
google avatar

Nivedita P.

Yelp
Was here for the happy hour. Ordered the old fashioned & manhattan. I prefer the manhattan over the old fashioned.
google avatar

Vidya P.

Yelp
Definitely have been here before but just getting around to reviewing this place. A great spot for hangout with friends - and for learning about Makers Mark releases! Enjoyed the education we were provided - and the drinks. Would highly recommend!

Clayton T.

Yelp
Amazing place. Love it here. The people here are very nice. Ambience is perfect. The house old-fashioned is really good. I really like the pool tables. Definitely place where you can come and hang out for happy hour.
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
I actually really like this bar. Good location. Theirs plenty of street parking, even if you need to walk there are lots of places to eat other spots to check out. Staff is very nice here. I love all the alcohol selection. They have a few pool tables here as well but we aware when its busy there will be a wait for sure. Prices are about right where they need to be. You get what you pay for. Also there was a live band playing so overall I had a great experience.I most definitely would come back.
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
Cool vibe and a great selection of drinks to choose from. We ordered two cocktails and a mocktail. The amount of attention that was put into my mocktail was impressive. The bartender treated it like a cocktail and gave me the full experience. It got pretty packed quickly so we decided to leave but they had a live band and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
Happy hour until 8pm. Amazing staff. Wide selection of whiskies. Live music most nights. Cool whisky tastings. There is so much to love about Seven Grand. If I'm here during slower hours, their whisky sours are frothy and delicious. Happy hour old fashioned are delicious and spirit forward. Staff are great with helping me choose a cocktail or whisky to try based on my mood. Seven Grand is a North Park staple. It is not your normal bar. Between the live music and whisky tastings, it's always a new and fun experience whatever the night.
google avatar

Cynthia W.

Yelp
Come here for a cozy speakeasy bar vibe! There is live music, a pool table, dim lighting, and many whisky drink choices. We got a whisky sour and another drink that included bourbon and fruit flavors. The drink with the bourbon is definitely strong but makes for a nice sipping experience. The whiskey sour reminded us of a light creamy dessert. Drinks matched with the aesthetics of the bar. There was another quieter sitting/standing area at the back of the place that is great for hanging out and talking. There was also another bar area here where you can order from instead of the crowded one at the front. If you can't find a seat, there are cool barrels where your party can stand around! They also currently have holiday decorations so be sure to check it out!
google avatar

Gale R.

Yelp
Beautiful and excellent whiskey sour! They pay attention to detail, with the dappled egg white! Manhattans are classic! Excellent and attentive service from John! Classic dark bar ambiance!

Gloria V.

Yelp
MOST COOL SPOT IN THE AREA, AND BEST DRINKS EVER, GREAT LOCATION, BUT HARD TO PARK.....I'll still go there once in a while for the ambience and amazing cocktails.......Business: hello, your business number is no longer in service. It's the "619-269-8820 number" thought I should let you know. btw I'm 31 years old and I still call on the phone and leave voice mails.... perhaps you can put a google phone number if you no longer have landline, manager's cell phone OR redirect to your DM on a social site. It will help your business. Some things of the past never go out of style. HUMAN CONNECTION ALWAYS STAYS AND VOICE TO EAR IS BEST MARKETING. OR maybe you guys are too cool for the phone which I respect..... but someone wants to call you that can change your life and your parking situation. Thank you, GloIsaPR
google avatar

Sandra P.

Yelp
I love coming to seven grand for a gold rush. I like to play darts while I'm sipping my gold rush. Anytime I am in north park I find an excuse to stop at seven grand for some gold rush or two or three or who's counting??? If whiskey or bourbon is your thing don't sleep on this gem. Try the gold rush.
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
AWESOME awesome whiskey bar in north park! Lots of options, cool happy hour, and nice lightning to set the mood. There's a big window to look out on the street and good music. It gives off a mysterious ambiance - bartender was friendly and the two large pool tables take card OR cash. How can you go wrong?
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
Great little spot with all the vibes in NP. Dark, ambient, throwback.. Sat at the bar, had a Scottish old fashion.. friendly bartenders.. Overall was a great experience!
google avatar

Dawn B.

Yelp
Phenomenal experience. I managed to hit up happy hour and hung out for the Buffalo Trace tasting, i can't wait to go back to one of these tastings. They have one weekly. I had so much and they had an expert who talked about their alcohols.
google avatar

Rustle J.

Yelp
Abysmal service and overpriced cocktails. In case the urge to wait 45 minutes for a watered down and overpriced cocktail mixed by a pretentious bartender in an excessively loud place, this is the spot for you.
