Seven Stars Bakery Review - Rumford - Providence - The Infatuation

"Seven Stars is the perfect place for a pastry, a cuppa, a shot of espresso, or a custardy quiche snack before (or after) a day of exploring the city. The quiche is worth getting your hands on (if you see it, order immediately since they sell out fast), as are the kouign amann, and the cheddar biscuits. And, if you’re feeling all Parisian in Providence, grab a loaf of their house-made bread: they bake up dark French rye boules, olive-studded batards, chewy sourdough sandwich loaves, and crunchy baguettes that all make for great picnic carbs." - Grace Kelly

I’ve never dined in here, but have dropped in many times to order baked goods. Their lemon cakes are to die for! In fact, their bread and pastries tend to be so delicious, I never end up with any pictures of them. When you order loaves from them they can slice them for you right in the back. They’re quite a good price and always delicious. The coffees and iced teas are also great. Parking tends to be quite busy, since there’s about 6 spots in front.

Google
Absolutely love this place! Their sourdough is delicious. Staff is lovely and helpful. They will have your coffee ready quickly and made perfectly. One of my favorite coffee shops in the area!

I am new in town and decided to go to Seven Stars Bakery for a coffee break. The interior is so beautiful! They have this little outside space to sit and sip. It was beautified with gorgeous plants. The employees were super nice! They recommended that I try lavender cappuccino, and It was AMAZING. The coffee was warm, not hot, that I usually prefer, and they didn't have WiFi, which was pretty odd. Overall, I loved the vibe of that place!

Google
Staff was efficient. Ordered a cappuccino which was good but was cold before I even stepped outside. Also ordered a chocolate croissant which was essentially a small, hard chunk of chocolate stuck in some puff pastry. As evidenced by the photo--not super appetizing.

Google
This is a great little bakery. Very much enjoyed the pecan sticky bun. Didn't try the drinks but will next time I'm in that area.

Google
Was passing through town and stopped by for a bite. What a pleasant surprise! The food was absolutely delicious and the ambience and service was also great. There were many great pastry and sandwich options — it was hard to choose! Went with a cappuccino, egg and broccoli sandwich, and cheddar scone. Will definitely return next time I’m in town.

Came here from RI Food Fights- the coffee is good! A lot of different varieties of treats too

Was teaching a class down the street and afterwards walked down for a thick slice of sourdough bread with homemade jam and coffee...a definite treat

Yelp
Seven Stars Bakery is a wonderful place to get great coffee and something delicious to eat. The people who work there are friendly and focused on providing a positive experience for their customers. The atmosphere is so welcoming. You won't be disappointed!!

Yelp
Came here today to get a loaf of their cheddar bread and the staff was the most welcoming and nice I could have found at any bakery. Always a smile in their faces and a very helpful demeanor. The bread was delicious and fresh. Great bakery and pastry shop.

Yelp
There is a reason Seven Stars is a staple bakery in Providence. The baked goods are always so fresh and delicious, and the service is always so wonderful as well. It's a friendly neighborhood vibe. No wifi but the vibes are good for working and I've used my phone hotspot with no issues. The baked goods really just shine though. My personal favorites are the ginger scone, lemon cake, chocolate brownie, foccacia, everything Danish, and olive batard... Is it okay to have that many favorites?! They will always slice your bread loaf for you if you ask, too. They also have an awesome rewards system (just sign up for it!!!), and you even get a free loaf for your birthday (something I look forward to each year). A great place to meet with friends, get takeout treats for your coworkers, or to get some work done!

Yelp
Don't even know where to begin, but this place is my morning cafe spot! The sweet potato sandwich is my favorite, but I'm not a fan of onions, so I always pick them off since they come prepackaged. Staff is always kind and remind me of their reward system, which is free! It gives you a birthday loaf and points that can be used for future purchases! Location is always clean. I notice that whenever someone leaves their table, there's a staff ready to wipe down the tables, preparing for whoever is looking for a seat to enjoy their bakery goods~ it is always busy, but never an issue on finding seating when I come around. Parking is a bit tricky since the parking lot is tight and limited.

Yelp
Great service and amazing food. I will always recommend this bakery. This was my first visit to this locator and it sure was busy (as to be expected on a Saturday morning). They had some seating area and a small parking lot. The staff was great and got us taken care of quickly despite the long line. The sourdough pan is a must to bring home. The molasses cookie was amazing (I got the last one)! The ham and cheese pastry is just perfection. Have them heat it up and you'll be in heaven. As usual 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
What a gem of a local business! Seven Stars offers a full array of coffee drinks (though I miss the coffee ice cubes that used to come in the iced coffee, so it didn't get diluted), house-baked pastries (ginger star cookies, several varieties of scones, muffins, danish, kouign amann, croissants, etc...) and pre-made salads and yoghurt in the to go cooler. But the star of the show is their wonderful, scrumptious bread. Bread like toasted walnut and raisin, French rye, olive bread, durum rounds, country, and seasonal favorites like pumpkin seed bread to name just a few. There are now five branches of this local treasure, each with a cozy indoor seating area (generally packed, so finding an available table may be tough) and WiFi. Each cafe has its own interior design - all beautiful - with real plates and mugs for hot coffee if you say you're staying. Each has restroom space. Most if not all also have outdoor seating options. The original location, on PVD's Hope Street, is in a former gas station that was creatively reimagined decades ago and had been renovated at least twice since (originally, when this was the only storefront, baking was done on an oven set into the cafe's side. The first renovation moved the oven out to create more seating). The cafe also has a gorgeous covered patio with beautiful trees and plantings blocking the street noise. Parking here is tight, but on street parking can be found (sometimes with a bit of a struggle). I've stopped here at least once a week since around 2001! Still, one of my favorite spots.

Yelp
My weakness is the focaccia bread at Seven Stars. Depending on the season they offer regular herb, tomato, or with grapes! I prefer their Hope Street location over Reservoir Ave- the staff is friendly and they handle the hustle and bustle of the East Side with ease. I usually have them heat the focaccia up because they wrap it with foil, which can prevent the oil from seeping through their brown bags and onto my passenger seat or tote bag. Their iced coffee is decent and they have a station to add creamer, milk, sugar and syrups. Their pre packaged turkey sandwiches, cheese twists, quiches and lemon cakes are also fantastic! The parking lot at this location is small, but there is plenty of on street parking available- however it is more challenging during peak hours. They have plenty of tables and seating both inside and outside for people trying to study, work or go on a coffee date.

Yelp
If you visit Providence, you should check out Seven Stars Bakery on Hope St. Their pastries and coffee are excellent. Especially if you come during winter -and it is gloomy outside- the hot coffee here will help a lot. Their croissants are among the best. People are pleasant and friendly here, I really like the one on Hope St. They have outdoors seats.

Yelp
I mentioned a unique taste to Seven Stars' coffee in my earlier review and actually, it turns out to be the perfect earthy undertone to their seasonal pumpkin spice latte. That drink was seriously unreal (I consistently went out of my way to get it) and something I'll look forward to every year going forward. Four stars since I still don't get most of their regular coffee drinks, but their bakery remains unmatched across the board and the location/vibe are really wonderful. Service has historically been hit or miss but recently has been mostly miss bordering on rude or not getting my order right.

Yelp
To begin, Please bring back the cherry brownies!!!! I went to Seven Stars Bakery a year+ ago and they had a chocolate brownie with a cherry swirl. It was sooooo good and I haven't seen it again since! The plain brownies are still delicious though! Seven Stars Bakery is a great place to stop for a coffee and a small bite. They have an amazing baked goods section and a wall of beautiful loaves of bread that are baked fresh daily. Their olive loaf is so amazing! I typically go to the Point Street and Hope Street locations. They are always busy and it seems like it's a place where people go to stay a while which is nice to see! That means it's good! Also, they give back to their community! At the end of the day, they donate all unsold bread, pastry, salads, and sandwiches to local food pantries and shelters. It's great to see local places supporting their communities and also eliminating food waste!

Yelp
The bakery is a cute and cozy space. Bright and warm but the parking lot is small and it can get busy so it's likely that you will have to find street parking. I visited around 2pm on a Saturday so it was hustling but not overly crowded. I ordered a medium oatmilk lavender latte which was made in about 5-7 minutes. All of the employees were polite and somewhat frjendly. However the main reason for the 3 star rating is the coffee. My latte was just not good. It tasted like the espresso was burnt and the lavender flavor had a weird aftertaste. I paid $8 for this coffee so I was especially disappointed. I would have went back and asked for another if I hadn't already driven away and since the parking is tight, I didn't bother going back. I may come back and try again next time I'm in town, but I'm not particularly pressed to do so when there are so many other coffee shops in Providence.

Yelp
This is a really wonderful local bakery. I was in Providence for a quick day trip from Boston and was Yelping for bakeries so I can get a light breakfast. I came across Seven Stars and I'm really glad I did. The place was packed at 10am on a weekend and we got lucky and snagged a parking spot in their tiny parking lot. The display case was filled with amazing looking pastries that it was difficult to just order one. We ended up ordering a few savory and sweet items to eat there and take some with us on the road. All the pastries are excellent. My favorite was probably their almost croissant. It looks flatted and squished, but it was full of almonds on there and tasted sweet, complimenting the tea I ordered. Highly recommended to check Seven Stars Bakery out if you're into good, fresh made pastries.

Lis L.

Yelp
I'm happy to say that they have 100% proved me wrong. I strongly believed that you just can't get a decent cappuccino in a paper cup. Every other place I've gotten one has resulted in just getting the espresso on the bottom with no foam. But Seven Stars figured it out and its amazing!!! Food is amazing as well! There is no better bakery in this area. And they're unionized! How much sense does it make that they treat people well and they put out a great product - TOTAL sense! People are very friendly and helpful. I'd attach a photo of it all, but its gone!!

Yelp
Seven stars is a Providence classic. I recently got a mozzarella and roasted red pepper sandwich and a chocolate almond croissant. The chocolate almond croissant is something I've had several times before, and I always think is excellent! Like most of their pastries, it's rich, but not too sweet. I hadn't gotten a sandwich here before, and while the filling was good, I thought the bread was a little harder than I'd like. The seven stars location and atmosphere is great. There's some parking out front, and plenary of indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is particularly nice because it's in a lovely patio surrounded by plants.

Yelp
I have been going to this place since I was like 5. Man this place is great! The food is good. Although they do not have everything I would want for lunch, they certainly have some insane gingerbread stars. I hope they still have them at least! The service here is kind and cool The ambience in this spot is peak. Once upon a time I went into this building wearing a carrot costume, and my friends came as a pickle and a banana. We filmed a video together and it was Awsome, the owner here let up film in the store and it was great

Linda S.

Yelp
Was my favorite R.I. bakery, but they continue to over bake the pecan sticky buns I used to love. Also now the q buns. Both now over $6 each. I still love and buy the cheddar scones, now up to $5.20 each. Prices really increased way too much after union, that I'd thought was a good thing. I go there less now and buy less too.

Ryan P.

Yelp
Dear Seven Stars, The photo shows a large void in the top of the 20 oz latte. This is the 3rd time over the course of a few weeks. There is less than 16 oz of coffee in this 20 oz cup. It is very good I just wish there was more of it. Thank you. UPDATE: recent visit coffee was full thank you Seven Stars great coffee

Yelp
I have just been in love (again) with the seasonal salad with summer squash and wheat berries - and I don't want summer to end. My most recent visit was to Cranston - super fast, there was no line when I went in so that was convenient. Got greeted, grabbed a delicious ice coffee and was on my way. Wished I had time to grab a table and sit and relax.

Yelp
There are a few locations for Seven Stars Bakery. I've been to one on Point Street and most recently Hope Street. Both are very similar in their choices of baked goods and drinks. Hope Street location has a small parking lot in front. I had no problem parking because it was early, but I can see it getting busy. Point Street location has a cute garden outside seating and inside seating. The Hope Street location had inside seating. The staff were friendly. I had the small iced matcha latte and a Lemon Cake. The matcha latte was very good and not bitter. The lemon cake is a mini pound cake soaked in fresh lemon juice syrup. With the first bite you take, you can really taste the lemon. Looking forward to try their other goods.

Yelp
Food and staff are always amazing. Even when it's busy, the line flows well. Never too loud and never dirty. This was my go-to bakery for years. When the ownership changed, some of the items started to change. They don't taste any different, but they are using different ingredients. I used to be able to eat many things on the menu that were free of my allergies. Now, there is only 1 thing I can get (the plain croissants). Fortunately, they are GREAT about allergies. Every item is listed in their little book (kept behind the counter, just ask to see it for the ingredient list). They are great about updating it whenever they change an item. Sad that I can't eat much here. But, glad that others can! Be mindful that it IS a bakery and some items come in contact with other items. So cross contamination can be an issue, if you're sensitive like me.
google avatar

Fatboy S.

Yelp
Really disappointing first time experience here. Not a good selection of baked goods, and the ones they had were just average. Coffee was average as well. Good customer service, but the place was messy. Wouldn't recommend. Wouldn't return.

Liz P.

Yelp
I was so excited to try Seven Stars, after hearing about it for years. Unfortunately, my all-time favorite almond croissant is not at all a croissant at this bakery! What I ate on Saturday was not laminated--it was flat, dense, uninteresting. The raisin bread that I brought home was a bit burnt, to be honest, and dry, though the flavor was ok. The durum loaf was good, but not exceptional. What happened? Was that day's offerings baked by beginners? I honestly don't think you should be selling -- for $6.25 a pop -- what you call a croissant but was more a "meh" pastry. Review update! I had a great email exchange with Alyssa at the Hope Street location, who is a role model for superb customer service! She heard my complaints and was generous in her response, and I will definitely be giving Seven Stars another try. Thanks again for the friendly service, Alyssa!

Vail V.

Yelp
Food is good. a little over priced. Worker are friendly ! good plus. The tip configuration is high. I can't afford to buy my food and drink AND tip most days. The owner is very wealthy, give back to your local customers! much nicer in the summertime when you can be outside and not have to listen to the yelling by select workers. Let's make it a little more audio friendly. Please!
google avatar

Nick J.

Yelp
The baked goods are crazy good. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Every location we've visited has been clean, inviting and interestingly designed and appointed. I'm a bit of a coffee nerd, and the coffee is the only real ding against this place: it's tough to get a consistent coffee or coffee-based drink from visit to visit. But with all the other things this place has going for it, it's not that big of a deal. Beware the breakfast sandwich with broccoli (you read that right): it is highly addictive.
google avatar

La W.

Yelp
In my own autistic experience, this is a very difficult place to come to. It is always busy, always packed like sardines, and always very loud. That being said, I still come because everything here is absolutely delicious. And even though the employees are always running around doing a million different things, they are always very nice. The only reason I didn't give a full 5 stars is because it's pretty expensive.

Amy N.

Yelp
Very comfortable and fast serving. I love the Turmeric latte! Staff are kind and helping elder customers. I will stop by again.
google avatar

Dan W.

Yelp
A good decent bakery. Breads are the highlight. Coffee can be hit/miss depending on the barista working on the machine that day.
google avatar

Ryan L.

Yelp
Seven Stars pays their baristas $9/hour which is so far below a fair wage that it should be criminal. If your business can't survive without paying your employees fairly (which I'm sure Seven Stars can afford to do) then your business is failing.
google avatar

Carolyn H.

Yelp
We get Seven Stars bread often, love the Vermont cheddar! Their coffee and pastries are phenomenal too. Great reward program for regular bonuses. Love that I can walk to Point St location from my office or stop at Cranston location when I'm running errands on weekend.
google avatar

April Y.

Yelp
Super convenient and high quality bakery for the COVID-19 era! The Seven Stars Bakery app is super convenient for ordering ahead and picking up without having to wait in line. Of course, pastries are a great breakfast treat (my favs are the almond croissant, cheddar scone and sticky bun), but I also like to get an artisan loaf when I make soup (sourdough and the Vermont cheddar sourdough are my favorites). This is a really popular place, so sometimes parking can be a little tricky, but overall, it's worth it! Also, always great to pick up some goodies during the summer on Saturdays when they're at the Farmer's Market in Lippitt Park.
google avatar

Jimmy H.

Yelp
This place lived up to the hype. The sticky bun was perfect... a great balance of gooey, chewy and crunchy, with a rich almond flavor that added a lot. The broccoli breakfast sandwich surprised me with how flavorful it was. The texture was also on point. They also made one of the better chocolate almond croissants that I've had and solid coffee as well. I'll be back.
google avatar

Joyce M.

Yelp
Seven stars has several locations across providence but they consistently provide quality pastries and other baked goods. I've tried an unhealthy number of baked goods from here. I really enjoy most of the pastries I've had, but I think that my favorite would have to be the pecan sticky bun. It's slightly crispy on the outside with glazed sugar, but the inside is so fluffy and buttery. Another favorite is the kouign-amman, a French caramelized layered pastry that sort of reminds me of a cronut. I also personally love the lemon cake which is dipped in a mixture of lemon juice and sugar so it's quite tart. The only thing I've found that was just ok were the coffee drinks here. But if you're looking for delicious, unique pastries this is the place to go!
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
maybe I'm old fashioned, but a medium iced americano and a slice of raisin walnut bread costing $9.01 seems high. Is this a byproduct of the union movement infiltrating the retail coffee market?
google avatar

Margaret L.

Yelp
Seven stars has quickly become my go to stop when I want a tea, pastry or some of their delicious bread. I'm not a coffee drinker so I always appreciate places that have a few tea options (chai, London fog) although the chai was slightly on the milkier side for my liking. The bread is what will really keep me coming back every week. We've tried several varieties, multigrain, sourdough, Vermont cheddar and love them all. It can get crowded if you visit on a weekend morning but they do a good job of keeping the line moving. I've also tried several pastries and have yet to be disappointed. I will definitely be back to try all the rest of the bread/pastries!
google avatar

Ashok J.

Yelp
It's all about the sticky buns. So sticky yet so soft and balanced without overloading with sweetness. They got this right folks. The cheddar biscuit was also something we enjoyed. Had some nice time in the outdoor seating area.

Edward S.

Yelp
I wrote a review last week about an issue. Alyssa dealt with the situation immediately and cheerily. A few days later, I came home with a perfectly baked loaf of raisin walnut bread. Very impressive customer service. Truly!
google avatar

Taylor P.

Yelp
Amazing iced lattes with homemade flavor syrups. I got a cinnamon bun and it was so good. Very moist and flavorful! Highly recommend this place. ALSO they donate all of their unsold breads, baked goods and food to local food shelters!
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
Having been coming here for years with my family. Great pastry, coffee & breads. Love coming here on Sunday mornings or during the week for a quick little snack.
google avatar

Rei M.

Yelp
Love this place. Staff is extremely friendly and it's almost always packed but the service is efficient so the line moves quickly. They started implementing COVID precautions early and have done a great job with sanitation, masking policies, social distancing, etc. Currently taking to-go orders in person and via online order. Order of operations is important if you're ordering in-person: You get in line and walk by the cooler first (sandwiches, salads, juices). Then an employee will greet you at the pastry case when it's your turn. You'll order your pastries and bread at that time (if you're getting a bunch of pastries, it'll be helpful to let them know if you want a box). Then, they'll bring you over to a register and you order your drinks (this way, they can type your complicated drink directly into the order system). If you want your pastry and/or sandwich toasted, they can do this and will call your name once it's ready. They get coffee beans from George Howell so you know the coffee is good. Espresso drinks are obviously made to order. The dairy milk is from Wright's Farm but they also have soy, almond, and oat milk. All the food items are made fresh the morning-of (don't worry, the food left over at the end of the day is donated!). Literally everything on the menu is delicious. Kinda pricey but worth it. They do have a rewards program now ($10 for every $100 you spend). And as of about a year ago they finally take electronic tips, so no excuse not to tip the wonderful staff!
google avatar

Gena D.

Yelp
The Kouign Amann hands down has to be the best pastry I've had in my life! Their cinnamon buns are the best around! Cheddar herb scone - 3 stars Cheese Twist - 4 stars Cinnamon Buns - 5 stars Kouign Amann - 5 stars Lemon cake - 3 stars
google avatar

Karoline A.

Yelp
Beautiful welcoming dining room. You are welcomed with a wall of freshly baked bread. The focaccia was delicious. I sat and enjoyed a latte. Service was awesome. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. My favorite thing was they drew a heart it my latte which was special. Definitely a nice treat after a long day of work or meeting up with friends.
google avatar

Paul Z.

Yelp
Plenty of parking which is kind of rare on hope Street. Always decent coffee. The dark roast could be a little darker but I always appreciate the option to get a dark roast. Bake goods are always on point
google avatar

Shawn A.

Yelp
What to get here? What not to get here is a better question. The bread is outstanding! There are a number of varieties and all I have had are great but my go to is the Vermont Cheddar Loaf. The quiches are also great. They typically have a variety of them that seem to rotate, however I am a sucker for the Bacon and Potato one. The pastries unreal. The Chocolate or the Chocolate Almond croissant, either are super. The Blueberry tart (available during Blueberry season is a must have. The Danish are great, the Cinnamon Bun is great. Just try this place and you will be glad you did.
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
Can honestly say I've never had a good overall experience. Most unfriendly staff ever, spoke with a female manager once and she was incredibly rude and just this morning I get a hot coffee and What happens? The lid on my coffee is leaking out the sides. Now my car has coffee in it and my coffee experience is ruined. I try to come back here but it's always the same bland place. Time for a new place.
google avatar

Kranio S.

Yelp
For a spot smack in the middle of a city, the atmosphere , flower gardens and staff make you think you are in a quaint mountainside cafe removed from all of the everyday business one would expect from a city bakery. You are getting old world style Baked goods, artisan breads and deserts here. Well Worth a trip or a stop if you are in the area.
google avatar

Remy D.

Yelp
tasty place? oui. good baguettes. cooked very nice. was soft, warm, and fresh. would recommend.
google avatar

Catherine S.

Yelp
Out of this world! I went down to get a cappuccino for my son-in-law. Ended up also buying a lemon muffin and a macaroon gluten-free for my daughter. The lemon muffin was out of this world every bite had a sharp tang to it with a little bit of sweetness afterwards it definitely was worth the price. Looking forward to going again I have been there in the past for the iced coffee passport from Rhode Island and I bought things that that time as well and everything ends up being spectacular really one of the best places I've gone to for bakery items in Rhode Island.
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
Love this cafe on Hope St. Always busy and at times it can be difficult to find a seat, but well worth the wait. The line moves quickly and efficiently and their staff is very friendly. Their display of pastries is a good assortment. An almond croissant and a hot chai are my go to when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Cailyne G.

Yelp
I absolutely love seven stars! They have my all-time favorite cold brew, and their breads/baked goods are incredible! Always a favorite spot
