Nine Boutique Hotels to Know in Ontario

"There are few hotels that are more clearly a labor of love than Stratford, Ontario’s seven&nine. That is, if it’s even a hotel. Set a scant minute’s walk from the Avon Theatre, one of the anchors of the annual Shakespeare festival, it was built as a private house, and an extraordinary one at that. Architects Shim/Sutcliffe were inspired by the kind of raw-concrete modernism that recalls figures like Tadao Ando and Alvar Aalto, and the house is decorated with modernist classic furnishings and contemporary artworks to match." - MICHELIN Guide

A very impressive, unique building and beautifully furnished. Fabulous sheets and attention to the details made our stay memorable. A proper First Class experience.

We had an amazing long weekend getaway at seven and nine. Beautifully designed with amazing furnishings and art. Total comfort and style. Our hosts offered helpful and timely information about the house, the city and surrounding areas. Even without a theatre season there was lots to see and do, great food, beautiful walks through the neighbourhoods and around the lake. Having bicycles available gave us the ability to go further afield to explore. We will be returning!

Booked a 4-day stay at Tower House in 2020, but had to postpone several times because of the pandemic. Despite weather not cooperating (arrived and left Stratford in a snowstorm), we had an amazing time. The 4-story house is spectacular qua design. Lots of light because of the huge windows and the skylight. Loved the different levels , the fully-equipped main floor kitchen, overlooking a small pond with a waterfall, for entertaining, the second floor family-room to relax by the fireplace and watch tv, the two upper bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Fascinating art throughout, as well as books on architecture and a folder with information about Stratford.. Excellent central location overlooking Lake Victoria, Within walking distance to most restaurants. The host left us a detailed manual about the property and more useful tips about Stratford. We can imagine when the live theatre season is back to normal, staying at this property will be an absolute pleasure.

We stayed at seven&nine for three nights. As an architect, I am fascinated by the Tower. It is wonderful to stay and experience the beauty and complexity of the design over an extended period of time, how the light changes, how the flow of spaces works, sitting and observing the many custom details and imaginative solutions. You come away from the experience more committed to excellence in architecture.
