Michael Mina Appears to Be Opening a Scandinavian Restaurant in the Ferry Building - Eater SF

"Shack 15 is an as-yet unopened spot that occupies 46,000 square feet at the north end of the Ferry Building’s second floor. Prospective patrons were promised a Scandinavian restaurant concept, reimagined through a Bay Area lens, curated by award-winning chef and restauranteur Michael Mina." - Eve Batey

I came here for a SF social club event and was the first to arrive. While it was slightly confusing to located the venue at the Ferry Building, I was met with a warm, friendly welcome from all the staff I encountered once I entered the space. As others in the group started to arrive, we all got the happy hour wine, which was a fantastic deal and tasted great. Everything was beautifully decorated and tastefully presented. There was a live DJ who set the vibes for the night, but the lounge we were in was decently large and the music never got too loud, so it was still conducive for conversations. I had such a good time meeting people at the happy hour social mixer here and hope the club continues to collaborate with Shack15 to create a third space for social interactions.

Perched atop the Ferry Building, Shack15 is where industrial chic meets breathtaking Bay views. The open-concept design somehow strikes an intimate vibe, with cozy nooks and surprising spaces around every corner. The staff? Unmatched. Shoutout to the phenomenal bartender Le Voir and the lovely on-point manager Rachel, who made sure every detail was flawless. The food? Outstanding. The drinks? Absolute perfection. Especially the Espresso Martini. Whether you’re hosting an event or joining the city’s most exciting work-meets-play community, Shack15 is in a league of its own. Don’t miss it!

Shack 15 is a game-changer in City by the Bay. I attended another function at this beautiful space and every expectation was met and exceeded. Located in the historic and beautiful Ferry Building, this private membership club is conveniently located in the Financial District (FiDi). One can arrive here by nearly every means of transportation, including, of course, the ferry. In a city bustling with more options than one has time to enjoy and a rich collection of wonderful venues, Shack 15 is truly unique. The culture and vibe here is palpable. Service is excellent, the views are breathtaking and the culture is replete with innovators, leaders from every sector, entrepreneurs, artists, meaningful and socially conscious, purpose-driven members. The dedicated workspaces, meeting rooms, coffee bar, gorgeous event space and much more feels comfortable, very clean, welcoming and a fusion center for those who believe in helping, collaborating and mentoring others. The leadership team - all very of whom are deeply friendly, professional, smart and down to earth - has partnered with highly acclaimed and award-winning chef Michael Mina to bring top-notch cuisine to this San Francisco landmark. The restaurant and wellness center will be open soon.

Yelp
Shack 15 is a members only & guest of members workspace & community space with a large bar at the primary entrance and a secondary bar in the lounge area that features a DJ on Friday evenings in addition to $5 wine pours. I attended an event a few months ago & was added to their mailing list & became aware of the pop up dinner event featuring Michelin star chef Christopher Haatuft from Norway. Tickets were prepaid in advance, which made everything pretty easy. We arrived & got pre-dinner drinks at the bar outside of the dining area. My Moscow mule was pretty good. They were featuring $5 pours of Chardonnay & a red but I was in the mood for a cocktail. The pop up restaurant was a wonderful experience, paced well with explanations of each presentation. My favorite dish was the cod & my friend's favorite was the lamb but everything was delicious and none of the courses were heavy so we were full, not feeling stuffed after our meal. I learned that presently, there are no Norwegian restaurants in San Francisco (unlike the unlimited French & Italian restaurants) & this would be the first Norwegian restaurant if it moves forward with a more permanent setting in this location. I'm looking forward to it! There no parking at the Ferry Building & I usually park at the Embarcadero Center (parking after 5PM is $3 per hour).

Yelp
This coworking space feels like it was plucked straight from a White Lotus episode--curated for those chasing a particular vibe and aesthetic. The people here aren't just looking for a desk; they're seeking an identity, a carefully crafted image of effortless success. But beneath the surface, there's an emptiness--a life consumed by the grind of their real estate tech startup and the status symbols of a Tesla Cybertruck, leaving little room for genuine human connection or community engagement. Look around, and you'll see a sea of "fashionable" 30- and 40-somethings--Burning Man first-timers in $500 sneakers and cashmere sweaters, eager to prove they're not just about money while effortlessly slipping into conversations about their Series B funding round. A miniature poodle rests at their feet, a silent witness to the performance of nonchalance. I've been a member for three years, and while I stay for the prime location and stunning views, every visit reminds me why I can't stand the Bay Area tech scene. The staff enforces rules in the most condescending way possible. Today, I got a sharp "You need to move if you're going to talk here" for whispering something to my colleague--meanwhile, the person next to me was on a full-volume phone call and wasn't asked to relocate. Over the past two years, it's become unbearably crowded. Finding a seat is a struggle, and good luck hunting down an available electrical outlet. This place could be amazing, but it needs some changes. I think it's trying to do too many things at once and should prioritize the top 3. A few suggestions: Diversify the membership--bring in more social sector folks, less tech bro energy. Add more phone booths so people don't get reprimanded for a quick conversation. Increase seating in both the quiet and talking areas. Enforce a no meetings without headphones rule. Train front desk staff and noise monitors to be more welcoming and less, well, hostile. One bright spot? The café staff. They deal with some seriously pretentious customers but still show up with kindness and ease. Shoutout to them for keeping this place bearable.

Yelp
Attended a venture capital firm meetup event and enjoyed networking in addition to trying the cafe for dinner with an order of their little gem duck salad paired with hot lemon water to end the evening in the city with a beautiful water view near the Golden Gate Ferry docking pier area.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Shack 15 and had the opportunity to meet Danielle, a member of their team. Danielle gave me a detailed tour and shared valuable information about Shack 15. -One of the standout features of Shack 15 is its unique focus on Norwegian cuisine. -The interior design of Shack 15 is a perfect blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal. The minimalistic Scandinavian style, complemented by Henry Miller chairs, creates an inviting atmosphere. -One of the highlights of being a member at Shack 15 is the wide variety of events and programs they offer. From live piano sunset evenings to wellness programs like yoga and sound meditation sessions, as well as pop-up restaurants featuring renowned chefs. They also organize movie screening nights with discussions, such as this week's screening of Michael Morgenstern's "Reality Games" on deepfakes and disinformation. -The event rooms at Shack 15 can accommodate up to 500 people, making it an ideal venue for professional gatherings or community events. -it would be also nice to have access on Saturdays and Sundays (e.g. enjoy a glass of wine with a few friends before heading to Treasure Fest ferry ride, for example). -it is also worth noting that there is a limited number of phone booths and standard work desks, even in the quiet focus area.

Yelp
I liked this place before it was commercialized so much after pandemic that it became just a regular bar. Before it was a trendy, sofisticated place with meaningful events. When you are there you would feel as a part of something special. Right now it is just a regular bar. What a disappointment! Cocktails are watered down, food is simplified...

Yelp
First impressions are dicey, I half expected the bathroom to have gold toilets. The staff often have tacky, heavily pancaked make up and it can feel like a blog post from McMansion hell. But if you're picky and go to the events with dressed down people it's possible to meet some smarties here! Especially the back room events! Maybe over time the decor and style can start leaning towards the Tate modern instead of Miami! Was this place funded with crypto dollars. And it's cool the happy hours are nice since they start early even if the music is not super cool. This is definitely not Berlin or a center of culture. This venue grows on you, though it's weird seeing 20somethings dressing and acting like 50 year olds!

Yelp
I witnessed someone getting completely scolded by the receptionist for bringing in her own cup of coffee and a food item in a small brown bag. The people that work at the front desk in this place are awful. Creates a terrible culture

Yelp
I went to shack 15 recently with my father, and I encountered a lady by the name of Jordana. Not only was she rude and disrespectful to my father and I she was completely in appropriate with her co workers. I noticed her calling one of her bartenders/servers babe and being very touchy in-front of guests that obviously made the coworker uncomfortable. However what bothered me most was she was absolutely disrespectful and rude to another coworker snapping her fingers at him and belittling him in-front of guests when they attempted to tip him for his great service. On top of that she kept twitching and rubbing her nose as if she was on drugs. It made me feel so uncomfortable and upset for everyone involved. I hope they consider finding new management because my father and I refuse to return until the matter is dealt with. Service from anyone besides her was great.

Yelp
Great food. Really a pleasure to come and indulge in fine cookery with chef coming from top notch restaurants around the world.

Yelp
Cool space but the staff here are unrelentingly rude and treat members like they are the enemy. I've experienced this myself but I've observed this even more between staff and other members. I have heard several members complain that they, too, have been subjected to hostile behavior from the management to the cafe staff. It's almost like they have an Us against Them attitude. The roving wine guy is the exception. This is a shocking difference from similar caliber places like The Battery, where the staff and managers act as true professionals and can't do enough for you, always have a genuine positivity and make members feel welcome. I have no allegiance to anywhere and want to love SHACK15 but find it incredibly unprofsessional, leaving many members saying they feel unwelcome in their own club. Seems like it has gone downhill compared to when it started.

It is a beautiful social club. The view, customer service and ambience are amazing. I like to visit this place.

Yelp
Had to throw a work event here. 5 stars for beautiful location. It does get pricy here and had to send a couple of follow up emails to get a response throughout the entire research and planning process, which made us nervous. Everyone had a nice time though!

Yelp
This place is a great multi-purpose space. It features office space, events, and a cafe in a beautifully renovated historic corner of the ferry building. A hidden SF jewel! Check them out on Eventbrite.

Yelp
I love this place. It is such a beautiful space and the people who work there are really really nice. I like the professional atmosphere as well as the setting. A huge step up from the Battery!

Yelp
Incredible membership club in San Francisco. The space is beautiful with great views from the bay bridge in the incredibly iconic Ferry Building. The coffee shop serves the best cold brew I've ever had making my days working from there that much better. They have amazing events and an incredible staff that really cares about every single member. This is my favorite place to work and network in the city! I cannot wait for what this place will become after the yoga studio, event space, and the Michael Mina restaurant opens in the upcoming months. It's one of San Francisco's best hidden gems! Could not recommend enough

Yelp
beautiful private club for meetings, relaxing, light bites and drinks. gorgeous setting on the second floor of the Ferry Building with huge windows overlooking the bay and Bay Bridge. comfortable seating, well spaced out with private rooms for booking meetings. it's managed by the Michael Mina group so you know the attention to detail will be top-notch. considering the location, amenities and how comfortable and beautiful the space it is, the membership fee is (IMHO) well worth it.

Yelp
SHACK15 is an awesome coworking/ hangout space in downtown SF that beats a Wework any time! It's technically a membership model but it's super affordable for a year. The views and ambiance are incredible - Bay Bridge, Coit Tower, the Bay. You can have up to 3 guests at a time so it's perfect for a work meeting, coffee, or drinks - basically a flex space that's way nicer than a coffee shop. Lots of natural light and high ceilings, plus conference and phone rooms if you need them. And location is amazing in the Ferry Building for food, drinks, etc. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great food and drinks. The atmosphere was a little bit too dim for my liking but overall a nice experience!

Yelp
Amazing place for networking and meeting cool people. Very well setup. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I needed a flexible workspace for a few days per week + space for customer meetings and more. This is the perfect spot for that. Beautiful design, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food. I've tried some of the other companies doing the same and this is absolutely the best.

Mike L.

Yelp
Nice venue, but for rich people. Had one beer, cost me $16. That's the type of place it is. Great for a private party for those who have a lot of scratch.
