After a few pretty bad experiences recently with the cleanliness of the store, the bad attitude from the workers in the restaurant and expired foods, after today we are done. Purchased this Lithuanian Rye bread straight from the freezer and it was molded. From the freezer??? I wouldn’t trust any food from their freezers. Here’s the photos

Good Bangladeshi/Indian food in a reasonable price. Their kebab is really yummy. Update (4 January 2022): Now everything is overpriced there and I stopped going to this place. Specially the groceries are too much pricey compared to other Desi store.

Delicious food, great portions, and fast service! Shah's Halal Food is my go-to for flavorful halal meals — especially the chicken over rice. Highly recommend!

Google
Very delicious food. Have mixed cuisine but all are delicious, we've tried Sharma, biriyani and Bangladeshi style food. Tea was good too.

Google
It is a modest Indo-Pak-Bangla grocery with a small cafe. I went there in search of halal meats. They sell a variety of goods, mainly from Bangladesh and Pakistan. There was an excellent selection of fish and meats. Go shop their it will remind you of home

Google
Good location for Indian and Bangladeshi food, produce, meat, and groceries. Food items can have occasional quality issues, have found mold in containers before. Fresh meat and vegetables are of good quality.

Google
This is my favorite restaurant in Austin. I happen to eat two to three meals a week at this establishment. I like that this cafe is attached to a small grocery and butcher shop. The meat is so fresh and grilled when you order it. I like that the food is not too spicy like other restaurants with a similar menu. They have a fantastic lunch buffet from 11am to 4pm for $7.99!! My favorite meat is the chicken tikka kabob lunch special with rice and spinach pakora. Ordering over the phone or online requires a little patience because of the language barrier sometimes, but you will come to appreciate the quality food served here. Their employees are a little shy at first but so pleasant once you get to know them.

I hadn’t bought any groceries at Shahi Foods for years. Tonight I needed 3 last-minute items and decided to skip H‑E‑B. That was a mistake. The man intentionally overcharged me, adding a line item that didn’t exist. When I confronted him with this made-up $4.47 item, acted flustered, tried to justify with some made-up math, and didn’t offer to correct it. In my shock and anger, I walked out and I avoided further confrontation, in consideration of the other patrons in line, but I feel robbed. It’s not the amount, obviously. It’s the blatant disrespect. Dishonesty is especially disappointing this time of year.

Yelp
Title: Hidden Gem for Indo-European Delights: Shahi Foods GREAT FIND! During my drive home from an appointment in North Austin, I stumbled upon Shahi Foods, an Indo-European grocery tucked behind a gas station. The intriguing sign from Parmer caught my attention, and I'm so glad I decided to make a stop in this unfamiliar neighborhood. SAVORY & SWEET TREATS! The small grocery store is a true hidden gem, offering a delightful array of Indian and European groceries. I couldn't resist trying each of the samosa flavors, and I also grabbed a bottle of chutney to complement the treats. To satisfy my sweet tooth, I opted for a mixed dessert tub containing Gulab Jamun, Chom Chom, and Rasgulla, all supplied by Aladdin Astoria Sweets. GOOD SERVICE! The experience was delightful! The operator of Shahi Foods was not only welcoming but also patient with my questions, making my visit all the more enjoyable. The selection of chutneys was impressive, providing ample choices to enhance the flavors of my purchases. CHECK IT OUT if you are in the hood! Shahi Foods is undoubtedly a neighborhood gem and a wonderful surprise for anyone in the area. If you're a fan of Indo-European cuisine or simply looking for something different, make sure to stop by and explore the diverse offerings at Shahi Foods - you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Be aware of quality issues. I got naan. It is expiring in a year. Kept frozen as recommended. After opening the package I found moldy and bad product.

Yelp
They should be shut down. Lack of hygenie, smells very bad specially meat department.

Yelp
Adventures with Mom brought us to this store. Mom asked me to show her how to make lentils. Coincidentally, this store was on the right side of the street when she asked so, I turned into the parking lot. I showed her the produce section, all the different types of lentils, ghee, tea, and spices. I probably even convinced her to buy spices from an Indian store and not the regular grocery store. More quantity and quality for a better price. The reason why I gave it 3 stars, instead of 4.... The cashier was rude. Just downright rude! I have a hard time spending my money where the energy is bad. A better person may not mind.

Yelp
Scumbags run this place. If you have no dignity and are happy to buy cheap quality meat, this is the place to go. Overpriced than close by several other better options

Yelp
Limited produce and meat items but go here for spices, rice and oil! We compared the spice prices to Whole Foods, and for the amount we purchased we spent $26 here whereas it would have costed $216 at Whole Foods. We were about to get 7 oz of turmeric here for $2.99. Doesn't get much better than that!

Yelp
OMG,this is a no go store. Most of the products does not have production date nor best due date. The cans have rust of them. We tried to get info from the owner on when the product was produced. His reaction was outrages, he said that I can go to Trum in order to make his market a legal place. Basically he has admitted that he cheats on the customers. This is so sad. As many others here I will add the guy to bbb and call to FDA. Seriously, it can not be the case that this happens openly in a grocery store. Ive attached couple products packaged in 2005, but most of the products are like that.

Yelp
It's a nice size store with varieties ethnic products for this area/neighborhood. They do not have much Persian/Turkish products like Davod's Mediterranean Market if that's what you're looking for. This is more like Indian market with mixture of a little bit of everything.
google avatar

Tatyana V.

Yelp
Wonderful selection of Russian food and many other former Soviet Union countries. In addition, Many unique ethnic food can be found here. We even bought Ethiopian gluten free bread - that was completely unexpected. Great find! We will be back!
google avatar

Ann S.

Yelp
A friend told us about this store. We love Ethiopian food and enjoy cooking it at home. We were impressed with the Ethiopian selection and the fact that they sold Berbere, Shiro wat, Injera, lamb and goat. I read some of the reviews and can honestly say, we have never had anyone be rude or disrespectful. Injera have been soft, moist and fresh, also the spices and shiro wat have never been expired. We are grateful for the stores selection and make cooking our favorite meals at home.

Yelp
This grocery store has been around for quite a while and I continue shopping with them for a reason. Even though Shahi Foods has gained quite a bit of competition (the competitors may be a tad cheaper, but i have caught them being dishonest in prices and quality, and im not down with that)in the last few years, this indo European grocery market gets all the credit. Besides Phoenicia, this is the only place in Austin with such a huuuge variety of spices, teas, pickled vegetables, grains, etc. Honestly, no one in Austin sells imports like Shahi does. Don't forget to check out their new cafe; its super cute and the food is delicious and priced just right.

Yelp
Great unusual selection of Indian and Russian foods. Must be the same distributor as the two culinary traditions have nothing in common. I Jill two birds with one stone here Latvian dark rye bread and salmon roe caviar plus all the delicious Indian goods.

Andy M.

Yelp
Have been a customer for several years, primarily because of limited choices especially for Mutton (Goat) and Fish. Last several months, the quality and service has gone from "they dont care a damn about customers" to "Cheating in quality" Instances: 1. Have witnessed (at least 4-5 times) irate customer yelling/ arguing about sub quality meat and misrepresenting price 2. Personally atleast I have experienced thrice now where they tried to sneak in Lamb for Goat meat ( I had specifically ordered Goat meat - honestly I wouldnt step into this store if they didnt have Goat meat). Maybe its just a lapse of attention, but cheating - I dont think anyone needs to put up with such people!
google avatar

Prajna S.

Yelp
Customer service is terrible. Only reason it has almost 4 stars is because the owners wrote some positive reviews themselves - it's a sham business. Expired products on the shelves... I don't understand how this business is still running. A lot of people keep going back, because they don't know about other similar grocery stores, try KP Indian grocer right across the st (better customer service) or world food and halal market down the st. They are way better than this sham.

Yelp
Up until today this was my go to store for Indian food. I love the Tandori Masala spice mix. I put that isht on just about everything. It is best on fried potatoes. I popped in really quick this am to pick some up. While there I snapped a couple pics and would you know the owner got all in my face. He was like no, no, I don't like pictures! I said hey man, I'm yelping you. It's for your benefit, not mine. He goes "no yelp". Don't take pictures, my competitors will get my prices! I shot a double look and so wanted to explain to this paranoid man that his competitors most likely know his store better than he does. Nonetheless, I apologized and purchased my can of Tandori Masala for $3.99, no tax. I thought the whole experience was strange. Makes me wonder if he's an honest businessman. I will try the store on Lamar and Braker next time.

Yelp
If you are searching for a place in North-Central Austin that sells European, Asian and Middle-Eastern ingredients, well, you found it. This hole in the wall grocery store carries Bulgarian Feta (yummy), Persian Yoghurt Drinks, German Milka chocolate, Italian Kinder chocolate, Bounty Coconut bars, Sodjuk dry salame, and a whole series of the famous with true foodies "Zergut" brand (baked peper spreads, marinated eggplant, Avjar spreads, Grape & Sauerkraut leaves for "sarmi", etc. etc.). All this is in addition to the Indian / Pakistani ingredients, and some grocery items like fruits & veggies... This shop needs quite some work in order to bring it up to the expected standards of a normal US grocery store. Especially as far as getting some stench out (I recommend mopping the floors every once in a while, with strong chlorox bleach hopefully... cus now it feels like they have never been washed before). But hey, other than that, it is good to have you in the neighborhood, Shahi Foods. All the best- and please expand + grow your selection.

Yelp
I come here to buy shisha / hookah tobacco, coals, and hoses- all which are far below the prices you'd find at a smoke shop... they have several Al Fakher tobacco flavors, Coconaras, and some disposable hoses. They've got a lot of great southeast Asian necessities and are conveniently located. Cashiers are always grumpy and rude, though.

Moh A.

Yelp
The management is super disrespectful. Some of there products have no expiration date. I found couple of expired products. The store most of the time is dirty.
google avatar

Anjali K.

Yelp
1) always check date of manufacture of products sold here .. never ever forget.. generally they are expired 2-3 yrs ago 2) always check your bill amount and printed rates on products.. its their habit to make errors in bill amounts.. they always will charge 1-2-3$ extra to you

Yelp
We went here only to get goat meat and fish that we usually get in India. The man at the meat counter helped me with the goat meat and chopped the meat according to my instructions however, he was totally clueless about the fish. He simply asked me to open the freezers near the meat counter and check the fish. The frozen fish is brought in from New Jersey and the owner said, the shipments come in every other week or sometimes monthly. I got the king fish steaks and a pomfret. I asked for ice but the owner refused and said, I would have to get it at the nearby gas station. I'm not sure how much a little ice would've cost him. The fish are frozen solid so should last a drive of 30-40 minutes so I didn't care much. The store's ambiance is not exactly pleasant and there were several empty shelves. The Whole Foods samosas are better than the ones you get here at the counter although this place is supposed to be a Bangladeshi/Bangla speciality. Anyway, if you want to go in straight to the meat counter and the freezers containing the fish, you should be fine. I wish someone would help out with identifying the fish for someone who wouldn't otherwise know. The fish and the meat turned out good. I wouldn't recommend anything else there. PS. You have to pay cash if you buy stuff less than $5, which is strange for a grocery store. Surely, your margins are high enough to make up for credit card fees.

Yelp
I am never go to shahi again he the owner is the rudest person on earth. Also check the food he is selling old expired food.and when we try to take it back he was so rude and telling us no refund. I rather drive out of my way to get my product I need

Yelp
I am somewhat ignorant as to what everything in the grocery section was. Not everything was perfectly clear on the label, but the employees are more than happy to provide an explanation. My main reason for stopping in was the cafe'. I got 3 plates, lamb, beef, and chicken. All of which were so good, as a family we decided to share a little bit of each with each other. I am a tabouli lover and this, the tabouli was by far the best I've ever had. Generous portions were provided as well. I will most certainly be back in again.

Kate J.

Yelp
empty shelves, old meat with molds. Not a returning customer.

Palaniganesh R.

Yelp
Very bad customer service. I go there only for buying goat meat. The 2 guys processing and packing the meat watch videos in their phone or talking to someone in their phone and don't listen to what you are saying or asking. Last time when I bought meat, they weighed the meat and then removed a big chunk of meat because the meat had seal ink on it. I asked them to weigh the meat after removing the seal ink in the first place. They were rude in their reply. I complained to the owner and his response was harsh as well. I decided not to go there any more. Basically I felt like their attitude is as if they are giving the meat for free.

Gregory A.

Yelp
This place has the best Indo European food I have ever had. It is all cooked from scratch and tastes delicious. If you choose their buffet you can try so many exotic foods all at once. My family and I have lunch here often.
google avatar

Sai T.

Yelp
Decent indian/middle-eastern grocery store. The meat is pre-packaged, which I am not a fan of. Overall appearance and neatness is fine.
google avatar

Nathaniel C.

Yelp
Great samosa, good prices and section on grocery items. Will have to come back again before j give 5 stars, but it's off to a great start.

Butter F.

Yelp
I went to this place to get some Meat. While I was there, i picked up some vegetables. The guy at the register gave me a bag for meat. I asked another one for vegetables. He said that the bags are prohibited (what a hypocrite!) and he cannot give one for vegetables in a rude tone. I was pissed off and told him that he successfully lost a customer forever. This time it was his turn to get pissed off. He came back to me saying some thing on the lines that "INDIANS" kick so much fuss about bags and implied that he would do well without them. I left the location without speaking a word as I cannot stoop too low over his discriminatory remarks. what a scum bag!!!!

Mary Preethi Reddy S.

Yelp
I used to buy meat from here. Before they used to cut in front of us and give, now they are selling it like over the counter(already cut and ready for pickup). Before when I bought whole meat, I did get whole meat, but when I had to take the prepackaged whole meat one(the guy there told me they will not cut it on the spot from now) and after I came home and started cleaning it, it had 80% bones and only 20% real meat I was just pretty shocked and surprised to see that it was supposed to be whole chicken and not just bones. Just wanted to go and show them, that is how thy would cheat customers ? The weight of the whole chicken was more of the bones rather than any meat being there. The only lesson I learnt I will never go back again and also tell the same to everyone I know.

Yelp
I feel like I'm in bizarro world comparing my experience to the other reviews here, but I had a terrible time here! I'll try to ignore the decrepit appearance of the store and mostly empty shelves because I think they might be in the process of expanding, and focus on the available products instead. The majority of what I saw were dusty packages of junk food. Bags of crunchy snacks, candy, pre-made drink mixes, soda, high-sugar juices. This stuff is a great novelty but I honestly search for quality products rather than imported junk when it comes to ethnic groceries. There is also a small selection of pickles and jarred products. There is a huge lack of fresh produce or even a decent array of vacuum-packed "fresh" foods. I went looking for paneer and most of the available brands were low-quality highly processed styles (akin to Kraft mozzarella-style cheese product). I also failed to find expiry dates on a range of products. I checked four or five different kinds of ghee and none of them had a date on them, which is alarming for a high-fat food that might go rancid. I drove such a long way to get there that I forced myself to buy some Turkish candy and a small package of cheese, but I stopped by MT Supermarket on my way down Lamar instead and had an incredible time there.

Yelp
Wandered in here today on my way home. Always wondered what kinds of ingredients and food I could find in here. Ended up without any groceries, but bought a few delicious vegetarian homemade SAMOSAS as a snack for 99 cents each. The samosas were perfect -- just the right amount of filling and the perfect amount of spicy! Mmmmm a wonderful afternoon snack! Will definitely go back!

Yelp
So for the best Indian, Pakistan & Bangladesh grocery store in Austin. Clean, very organized, variety of items and halal meats....

Review N.

Yelp
We stopped by their new additional to the market; which is now a café within the store. Great authentic Mediterranean dishes and highly recommend to any one looking for something more exciting than just plain boring food. While you're vising the restaurant pick up some spices and grocers for your next Mediterranean , Middle Eastern and South Asian dishes. Excited to live just walking distance from such a great place.

Manzoorul H.

Yelp
I have been shopping at Shahi for years now. We primarily shop there for the Halal meat and spices (ginger / garlic paste and other special spice for our Bangladeshi cuisine). But we also get various cookies (which we call Biscuits) and fish (from Bangladesh) and various other items that are from other parts of the world that I can only find at Shahi. On top of that they have recently expanded and made it even easier to find all sorts of new items.
google avatar

Sveta F.

Yelp
So I've been shopping at Shahi foods for 2 years and I've seen it grow bigger and better, now they have a whole variety of Russian Food and the customer service feels more like friends visit then just a store. I like this place for convenient location great products and excellent service!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This really is the best grocery store in Austin for middle-eastern food!!! I come here about once a month to stock up on ingredients, spice mixes, and frozen meals. The store is very clean and the staff has always answered my dumb questions without making me feel ashamed for being inquisitive. The prices for spices are unbeatable and it's amazing all of the new foods I discover every time I go. Great deals on bulk bags of rice too!

Kathryn V.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came to this place looking to buy halal meat for his restaurant. We stood at the counter for over 20 minutes and were completely and totally ignored. The store looked badly stocked and disorganized on top of that. We will NEVER go back there again.

Neda S.

Yelp
Best place to go for middle eastern needs. The owners here are extremely friendly and kind. Definitely a family business so they will help you find anything you need. Great selection of spices, herbs, and Fresh meats(also have organic chicken)! They are even in the process of building a cafe in store!!!!! :)
