"Some days, you want to pretend you spent the day on a beach in a Hawaii instead of at your desk in a snuggie because there’s an office civil war happening regarding the thermostat. On those days, you should have dinner at Shaka Shack. This little burger place on Ocean Park looks just like a touristy restaurant in Honolulu, which would be annoying if you were actually in Hawaii, but is kind of charming in Santa Monica. The burgers are solid (get the Shaka Royale), the fries are good, and the owners are both grumpy and extremely nice at the same time." - Jess Basser Sanders, Amy Clark

The fries are amazing - cripsy and well spiced. Double Shacka: Juicy with two glorious patty’s. Maui Mushroom Burger: If you like mushrooms, this burger is for you, and the whole wheat bun is so fluffy! The staff is also very accommodating and they use reusable bowls! There are two tables outside, but you can also sit inside. Definitely going back to this place and will try some other burgers.

Great little burger joint, one of the best finds in our stay in L.A. Owners were polite, helpful and so friendly, and they can cook great burgers and the best crispy fries. Loved everything. Not the best photo, because i had already dug into it but i couldn't not.

Shaka shack is great. They opened several years ago when I lived nextdoor in my first apartment in LA, and even though I moved and live about 20 minutes away, I still make it back from time to time. The owners are great and friendly, as well as the employees and the food is fantastic, I really like the fries!

The portions are big, but because of fries. The burgers are smaller than their promo pictures, see my pictures with a sauce cup as a reference. Though they are still good. The main issue that I have is that all their burgers in the menu taste the same. What is the difference between a shaka burger and a shaka royale burger? Does it mean that a shaka burger has no cheese? And what is the difference between a spicy bbq burger and a shaka royale burger? Except that one is spicy and has bacon. The restaurant needs to make menu items clearer instead of making riddles.

This is about a 3.5 for me. It didn’t help that they messed up my order but the burger was soggy either way. I ordered one of their top two most popular: the kahuna burger. I have gotten so used to these minimalize burgers from places like Hiho and The Wall that I didn’t expect the generous size. And I guess it was the juice of the meat that created the soggy result. May just be a burger you’d have to eat there.

Nice family owned restaurant in the santa Monica area. My husband and I ate here while visiting in late September, and enjoyed some tasty burgers. I ordered the salmon burger and it was delicious...very hearty, filling, and fresh. We shared the truffle fries, and they were decent, a little strong for my liking but to be fair, they did warn us to get regular fries to go with our meal when we placed our order. I love it when servers go out of their way to give you honest menu recommendations and feedback-- that's what I call great service!

What terrible experience, and they don’t even suspect it, wasteful, one persons order of fries could feed 4 , the Caesar salad dressing was beyond awful and again the size is insane, I wish they would have some consciousness and look at what they are serving , almost 30 dollars later I left disappointed and wondering why so much waist I could only eat 30% of the food they served me !

Great burgers and large portions. Some good vegetarian options too. Small restaurant but super friendly service. Burgers a little difficult to eat as they tended to slide apart and it's not the cheapest. Well worth a visit though.
