I want to let you know about my experience with the Shake shack app and Canal Street shop so you can avoid dealing with either of them.
I'm an Old. I live alone. I get tired of cooking for myself. Today, Sunday, I decided to take advantage of thrir Chicken Sunday offer to get a second sandwich for free so I could avoid having to cook dinner. At 2:00 PM I placed my order (#29983828346650626) using the Shake Shack app from my home . I ordered two chicken shacks, crispy onions, extra Shack sauce, and fries, to be picked up by me. Their confirmation email arrived at 2:21.
I don't drive, so I walked to the streetcar, bought a round-trip ticket (senior discount) and rode from mid-city New Orleans to the location on Canal and South Peters by the French Quarter.
I arrived s few minutes before 3:00. I bought a lemonade. I told the cashier I had a 3:00 order for Bruce I was waiting for.
I moved to a chair (I use a cane because standing is painful, so I try to sit when I can). As I waited for the staff to bag my order, I thumbed through my email. I found one from Shake Shack time-stamped 14:48 saying there was a problem with my order and it did not go though.
It took thirty minutes for their system to confirm, then deny, my order, so I had made the trip on the streetcar from my home to the location across town for no good effect.
I went back in line to wait for the cashier. When I was finally able to speak to her, I showed her the email about my unsuccessful order. She signaled to a large man wearing a Shack shirt. He said they were having problems with their app so I needed to reorder through the cashier. I started to read off my order. She said there were no onions available, she thought they might have Shack sauce, the wait would be 30 minutes, and they would not honor the chicken Sunday offer. The man said they would not honor the Chicken Sunday offer because it could only be placed through the app.
The app that was not working. They would not honor their own promotion because their app was not working.
At that point, I politely told them to cancel the order and I left. I waited for another streetcar, rode it home, and made a grilled cheese sandwich.
I strongly recommend that potential customers of Shake Shack never use its app, rely on its promotional offers, visit its Canal shop, or deal with its employees in any way. Five Guys in mid-city is a very viable alternative. Ted's Frosttop is even better.
Shake Shack needs to do so very much better.
