"Shack Shake brings Danny Meyer’s fast casual homage to the all-American burger to Canal Place and it’s good stuff. Meyer is an epic hospitality figure and this concept, which went public in 2014, as a hot dog cart in Central Park in 2001. SS now sells $455 million in burgers, fries and shakes annually — and Kelly Field is in the house too — her chocolate chip cookies from Willa Jean are for dessert." - Beth D'Addono

"The 3,411-square-foot Shack is on the ground floor of the Shops at Canal Place rather than in the food court, a space that took over part of the Brooks Brothers store. There’s also an entrance from the street at its location at the corner of Canal and North Peters streets. Known for its hormone-and-antibiotic-free burgers, chicken, and hot dogs, the local locations will also serve wine and local beers from Abita Brewery, Nola Brewing Company, Dixie Beer and Second Line Brewing." - Clair Lorell

First shake shack experience and its far better than expected. The burgers are worth the price. The service staff were very helpful. As a traveller from the Uk i was unable to use the self service kiosks as you needed a us phone number. The till staff quickly helped out. I would come back, would also look at trying other Shake Shacks in the US.

Shake Shack has become big quickly coming New York and also very popular who enjoy burgers very much. This is my first time at Shake Shack also my wife,we went into Shake Shake first we people ordering at these Kiosk. We went to one of this kiosk machine order our food. We pay there we went find a table and wait for our number. They our number I pick our order then our food looks good but how it taste. I order the Shake Shack burger with cheese fries and a no way Shake it's a coffee mocha Shake. I took a bite of it but it good but it was average burger but the Shake was too much coffee flavor. The cheese fries were good.

Came here during my visit this past weekend for lunch. One word. Fantastic. I got a burger and fries with a sweet tea. Had great covid guidelines. Really nice place in a convenient location. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely be back and recommend this place to anyone in the area.

Fast food with upscale prices - the burgers are small, the prices are big. Glad to see that they have at least 1 veg option namely the Shroom Burger and crinkle cut fries. Self-service is a breeze and they pay kind attention to any allergy requests! The server made sure about our allergy preferences which is critical for us and that’s why they will get a 5 star review (else they would have a 4-star review) We got the Shroom Burger, fries, shake, chicken tenders/nuggets and the strawberry flavored drink. Food tasted good but maybe a bit pricier than I expected. We spent as much as a proper sit-down lunch restaurant so not sure the value is as much. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being best… Food - 8 Location - 9 Service - 9 Atmosphere - 8 Value - 7 Overall - 8

Fancy hamburgers and shakes… and some spicy food to boot. This is a chain restaurant that started out as a hotdog stand in Madison Square Park in NEW YORK CITY. And… it does have the look and feel of NYC. Not sure why it is here… not very NOLA, but I guess people like what people like. This is upscale and a really nice place to eat. You can eat “here” all over the US. Just saying.

It’s good to have Shake Shack nearby. However it was crowded and less clean compared to other Shake Shacks. Staffs were passionate but lack of dine in rooms and floors. It can be better.

Don’t expect conversation with the staff. A quick order from the ipad while get your food. The fries were so cripsy and fresh. The hamburger was very good. Tasted like a regular hamburger.

Stopped for a late afternoon meal. Our first time eating here, we were on vacation in New Orleans. What great food!! We had their burgers and hotdogs and shakes. All were so very good. The people were friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I don't typically go to Shake shack because of the price, but it's actually not as bad as I had thought. Thanks to T-Mobile Tuesday deal I was able to get a free shake shack burger with a purchase. The quantity of fries was better than I remembered too. Burger: Quality was fresh and the potato buns were soft. The patty is made with Angus beef. It comes with lettuce, tomato sauce, cheese, and a patty on a potato bun. Crinkle cut fries: crispy on the side potato in the middle. Since I took it to go and had to wait until I got home it got a little bit cold, but they are great fresh. I ordered through the app and my order was ready 10 minutes before I could even get there. I was able to walk in tell them my name and pick it up immediately I like that the paper bag it comes in has reinforced handles and is open so that the steam doesn't make the fries soggy. They also included three packs of ketchup in the bag. Parking: difficult. Luckily, I ordered pick up and was able to street park temporarily. There are some premium lots nearby because it is next to the mall. Great for tourists who are taking public transit or staying at the hotels nearby. This location is on a busy street so can be more difficult to get to by car.

Yelp
We don't normally stop at fast food chain restaurants especially when visiting such an amazing food centric city like New Orleans, but we were very hungry and fried chicken looked like it might be a good place to stop for something quick. We were pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of ingredients in our orders. I got the Chicken Stack - a crispy chicken breast with lettuce tomato and mayo on a bun. My husband got the Chicken Bites. Both were good and came out piping hot. They definitely filled in the empty spots. Ordering can be done online, or on pads at the restaurant. Meals can be ordered for eat-in or take-out. Pretty straightforward for fast food. The dining area was moderately clean. Typical fast-food ambiance - well lit and hard surfaces.

Yelp
The smash-style burgers here are amazing. So much so that Shake Shack has fast become my new favorite spot. The fries (Crinkle-cut style) are always crispy and perfectly salted. The Shakes are good but their Burgers steal the show. I wouldn't recommend the chicken or portobello mushroom options. Service is fast and easy, which starts by ordering at the Kiosk. You can order at a register, too. Finding a table isn't usually a problem, and your order is brought out to you. The location of this franchise is conveniently located in the heart of the city, with an open view of busy Canal Street and Decatur Street.

Yelp
We ordered this food to go; my boyfriend is a fan of Shake Shack due to his home state and we decided to fit some of our hungry cravings as we hadn't eaten in awhile that day. We both went for the avocado chicken sandwich with a side of fries & he had the hot dog as well. It was all very good!

Gregg N.

Yelp
This was my first time eating at Shake Shack! I wasn't disappointed! I ordered the BaconStack or whatever it was called (and fries)! The fries were so good that I ordered more! Why not!? It's my birthday! Don't forget the shack sauce on the side!

Rocky Mark J.

Yelp
I've been to various Shake Shack locations throughout the country - a Double Scoop Frozen Custard means the cup is FULL! (see the photo for a double scoop - it's disappointing) I approached the counter and verified that they indeed gave me a double scoop, and they said - YES!

Yelp
I want to let you know about my experience with the Shake shack app and Canal Street shop so you can avoid dealing with either of them. I'm an Old. I live alone. I get tired of cooking for myself. Today, Sunday, I decided to take advantage of thrir Chicken Sunday offer to get a second sandwich for free so I could avoid having to cook dinner. At 2:00 PM I placed my order (#29983828346650626) using the Shake Shack app from my home . I ordered two chicken shacks, crispy onions, extra Shack sauce, and fries, to be picked up by me. Their confirmation email arrived at 2:21. I don't drive, so I walked to the streetcar, bought a round-trip ticket (senior discount) and rode from mid-city New Orleans to the location on Canal and South Peters by the French Quarter. I arrived s few minutes before 3:00. I bought a lemonade. I told the cashier I had a 3:00 order for Bruce I was waiting for. I moved to a chair (I use a cane because standing is painful, so I try to sit when I can). As I waited for the staff to bag my order, I thumbed through my email. I found one from Shake Shack time-stamped 14:48 saying there was a problem with my order and it did not go though. It took thirty minutes for their system to confirm, then deny, my order, so I had made the trip on the streetcar from my home to the location across town for no good effect. I went back in line to wait for the cashier. When I was finally able to speak to her, I showed her the email about my unsuccessful order. She signaled to a large man wearing a Shack shirt. He said they were having problems with their app so I needed to reorder through the cashier. I started to read off my order. She said there were no onions available, she thought they might have Shack sauce, the wait would be 30 minutes, and they would not honor the chicken Sunday offer. The man said they would not honor the Chicken Sunday offer because it could only be placed through the app. The app that was not working. They would not honor their own promotion because their app was not working. At that point, I politely told them to cancel the order and I left. I waited for another streetcar, rode it home, and made a grilled cheese sandwich. I strongly recommend that potential customers of Shake Shack never use its app, rely on its promotional offers, visit its Canal shop, or deal with its employees in any way. Five Guys in mid-city is a very viable alternative. Ted's Frosttop is even better. Shake Shack needs to do so very much better.

Victor T.

Yelp
Food was great, really good hamburger to satisfy my craving. Service prompt and efficient. Ambiance was sufficient enough to get me in and out quickly with my order

Peter S.

Yelp
The food was good. Plus, I don't object to non gener toilets. But if you put a code lock on the bathrooms. Give the code to the lock to the customers. So we can wash up before our food arrives.

Jean K.

Yelp
Having a delicious and reliable place to eat while we were in New Orleans was appreciated. Seems like everything here is a bit disorganized and disorienting (Shake Shack isn't immune), but at the management has the ability to see beyond the chaos. Glad to be able to get good eats in NOLA.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Surprisingly one of my fav meals in Nola. So good I ate here twice when i got tired of crawfish and Cajun everything. I love how they cook the meat and smash it down to get it crispy on the flat top and the fresh ingredients and amazing soft fluffy bun. Run, don't walk here. 4 stars, fries were just ok, the place was super busy and not super organized. Pro tip: order online ahead of time and schedule for pickup.

Wilson L.

Yelp
Great Shake Shack location in New Orleans here. The burgers are great and the service is friendly and fast. Definitely a great spot to check out.

Corey K.

Yelp
Great burgers and fries. Good custard. Only "complaint" is that it's pretty pricey for burgers and fries. Still I'm sure we will go at least once every time we are in the vicinity of a shake shack (there are none where we live). Place was clean, with limited space to sit inside, but we found space and enjoyed our meal. (It was cold outside, at least by New Orleans weather standards).

Courtney O.

Yelp
This one never let's me down. The food always comes out really fast and the people are polite for fast food standards (not quite Chick-fil-A standards, but close enough).

Kevin G.

Yelp
Shake Shack is one of the few places that gives that cooked in the kitchen burger taste. Always clean and service provided with hospitality. Although a bit pricey but I feel it is worth it. Even with the food options available in the Big Easy you can always do a good burger.

Yelp
Burgers and shakes are excellent. However, the so-called portobello mushroom burger leaves a lot to be desired. The latter is the only reason I don't give it 5 stars.

Scott K.

Yelp
Computer system crashed while we were ordering. They kept telling us it would be back up and running in 10 minutes so we kept waiting. It was well over 40 minutes that we waited. At that point you would think they would just take orders by hand and give those of us that waited that long a free meal. It was ridiculous.

George J.

Yelp
Cold burger. Cold fries. Watered down ice tea with little ice. Total waste of Money and not like the one where we live. I guess they think they can get away with subpar food since this location is all tourists. Thumbs down.

Tiffany F.

Yelp
It was super busy so it took a while to get our food, but their veggie burger is amazing! I think next time I will get it without the shack sauce because I didn't love that, but it's nice that you can customize your order on the tablet very easily.

Heather B.

Yelp
Okay I love shake shack. It's my favorite fast food burger place and I was really excited this was underneath the hotel I stayed in. I ordered on the little tablet because I like to make changes to my burger and I don't want to bother someone with adjustments or have them accidentally get it wrong. My meal came up in a reasonable amount of time. But here's the bad thing. I ordered cheese fries. And did I get cheese fries? No. Was I 23 floors up by the time I realized that. Yes. Made me want to cry. Order accuracy could be better.

Frank W.

Yelp
I had never been to a Shake Shack before so this was a new experience for me. I liked being able to order from a kiosk which allowed me the time needed to make a decision without the pressure. The options were limited but I landed on a vanilla shake (after all it is the Shake Shack), fries, and a Bourbon Bacon Cheddar Chicken Sandwich. The fries and shake were as expected, not exceptional but not bad either. I was pleased that the chicken was a legitimate chicken breast rather than a processed, reconstituted chicken patty. I didn't care for the flavor of the bacon bourbon relish but that didn't stop me from finishing off the chicken itself. The shake was initially so thick It was hard to suck through a straw but that problem resolved itself as the ice cream melted. I likely won't return to Shake Shack in the future (I am not a huge fan of this type of food) but I was grateful to have escaped my hotel room and satisfied my hunger.

Trina K.

Yelp
Delicious burgers, excellent customer service, but the worst dine in environment of any place I've ever encountered in my life! It is entirely TOO smoky in there! There's ZERO ventilation, so you see clouds (thick haze and a strong aroma) when you enter the restaurant and can glide on their floor - in rubber soles! It felt more toxic than the days of dining in a restaurant filled with cigarette smoke if you're a non-smoker. I asked a worker (and so did others if they burned something). We were told it's a known vent issue. In the 5-6 minutes that I waited for my order, my eyes watered and I left smelling like I had a shift as a member of the kitchen staff. To make matters worse, there are no windows to open nor fans in the dining areas. IMO, it's was also odd that there's a lockbox on the front door of the restaurant. Another first. As for the food, I ordered a smoke burger (the air quality fit its name) , fries and a cran citrus punch. All 5/5 with the cran citrus punch being a tart lovers dream. They seriously struck gold with that one. The crinkle fries were hot, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The chopped cherry peppers on the burger made for a great combination. I'd definitely order them all again. In sum, delicious offerings - strong fry & juice game, reasonable pricing and great service, Poor ventilation. It's only a matter of time before the health department shuts this location down or someone sues them over it. They've likely gotten away with it attached to the only upscale shopping mall (Louis Vuitton, Sak's Fifth, etc) in Nola because their entrance is separate, meaning you cannot enter from the mall. All I want for the city's Shake Shack location in 2022 is clean air so I can actually dine in!

Joani O.

Yelp
We have Shake Shacks in Chicago but I came all the way to NOLA to try one for the first time. They are your typical griddle burger patties with your choice of toppings. I liked the contactless ordering system. It was very efficient and fast. My meal was good. Liked the crinkle cut fries. I didn't care for the pomegranate basil drink that I got, so I know not to order that again.

Danica M.

Yelp
I stopped in with my kids on the way back from the ghost tour tonight. the food was hot fresh and worth it! I ordered a double cheeseburger with bacon, 10 piece nuggets, and fries . I hate fast food but I have kids who love Mc D's and I'm from out of town (Texas) staying across the street at the double Tree (Hilton). We rushed in at 8:45pm and used the kiosk just in time because they close at 930pm. Both my kids (6 and 8 yrs old) said the nuggets were awesome. Such a Win for this momma. Plus, I suspect there hours are flexible? As I saw others walking in and ordering? Great to see businesses who will post hours but are flexible if crowds are coming.

David B.

Yelp
25 minute wait for a $9 burger that was nothing special at all. Oh and somebody got shot outside which is not the restaurants fault. I'd vote for McDonald's any day over this place - better burgers faster and cheaper.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Had my first Shake Shack experience today and can say that I was pleasantly surprised!! The Black Truffle Burger was amazing!! Hubby ordered it but I ate most of it (LOL). I went with the ShackBurger as a test to see if the Shake Shack classic lived up to the hype. It was good and I would definitely get it again but that truffle burger is what will make me go back. The Milk Bar shake partnership was also a pleasant surprise since I'm kind of obsessed with Christina Tosi and her bakery creations. Hubby and I split a Cornflake Chocolate Drizzle milk shake. Definitely plenty enough to split and share. First few bites were amazing but by the end the sweetness built up and became a bit rich for me so was glad to have hubby take the second half of it. I am a cheese fry aficionado and was so excited to see them on the menu. I don't know if it was an off day but the cheese sauce didn't taste very cheesy...it was quite thick so I wonder if maybe they use flour and someone maybe added a little too much. I will likely just go with plain crinkle fries next time. Finally, if you are looking for a beer with your burger, the draft beer set up is not working...staff said lines weren't connected. So you'll have to pick up a beer somewhere else in the French Quarter if you're craving a beer with your burger. We picked the lemonade and it was delicious!

Wayne H.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late night snack. Enjoyed the self service POS . Had very little interaction with the staff. The food was ok, small portions.

Eric G.

Yelp
The service was extremely slow and part of our order was missing. I'm not sure why it's so hard to put 3 items in a bag. If you do takeout, I recommend checking the bag before you leave.

Alice L.

Yelp
I've been to other Shake Shacks before and this one definitely didn't disappoint. If you haven't been to a Shake Shack before, it's your standard burger joint although maybe slightly pricier (I tend to compare it to In-N-Out since I'm from CA and their Shackburger is like $1-2 more than In-N-Out's cheeseburger). I decided to get the Shroom burger ($7.99) since I love mushrooms. FYI, it's a vegetarian burger, not a burger with mushrooms, but it tasted great. I would definitely get it again. I also got an order of fries ($3.09). Their fries are crinkle cut, which I'm a fan of. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and would return to this location.

Danielle B.

Yelp
I finally got to try shake shack for the first time. I've heard great things about it. I ordered the basic cheeseburger and cheese fries. The burger is 6.50 and it's the size a regular McDonald's cheeseburger. It was much smaller that I thought it would be, it looked like a kids meal. The meat on the burger was delicious though. The cheese fries were ok. At least I can say I've tried it.

Stefini R.

Yelp
We don't have Shake Shack in KY so I was curious. It was pretty good for a fast food chain. The cheese on the cheese fries wasn't your typical nacho cheese, I couldn't stop eating them. The hotdog and hamburger my friend had didn't disappoint. Space was open and modern and clean.

Steve M.

Yelp
Although the food tastes good. It would be better if they would put the meal in the bag and not forget the burger. The young lady appeared stoned and more interested in other young people loitering at the door.

Eronini D.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late night snack. The place is clean. Service seems pretty face. You must place your own order on the screen, they have 3 available. Had a cheese burger and a strawberry shake. Not bad

Nelly M.

Yelp
So I work nearby shake and shack and I've never tried them before, so today I said "why not order from them?" It was the worst mistake ever!!! Like an hour later after eating the burger I felt nauseous. Ended up having to go home early due to vomiting and how sick I felt. And I know it was the food since all I had prior to that was some pistachio nuts. I hope I don't end up at the hospital due to food poisoning!!

Brooklyn P.

Yelp
Their food is great....their food is always so fresh and tbh I'm a huge fan... it willl definitely filll you up!!!!!

Erika A.

Yelp
I was craving a shake so I decided to give Shake Shack a go! I was not disappointed at all! I ordered the cookies and cream and was glad I did. The shake was creamy and rich in flavor. Reminded me of my favorite childhood snack, the cookies and cream ice cream sandwich. Will def visit again!

Liza S.

Yelp
I had never visited shake shack before coming to this location when it first opened. I came for the media opening and wasn't expecting any or many options since I'm a vegetarian but was wrong! I enjoyed the 'shroom burger (crispy friend portobello mushroom filled with melted Muenster and cheddar cheese and topped with lettuce, tomato, and shacksauce). Boy oh boy this was good! Perfectly crispy and gooey. I also had the crinkle cut fries (how could I not?!) and they were great. With these, I dipped them in the concretes I tried. I honestly don't remember all the flavors I tried - I believe they were all featured flavors. One of the best parts is they serve alcohol!! Yay yay yay. The best of everything here.

Jeremy T.

Yelp
This is not fast food. This is slow food. Very slow food. The appeal of fast food isn't that it's healthy, or even necessarily delicious. It's that it's fast. But this isn't fast. It's SLOW, y'all. That said, they have really great fries. Crispy on the outside, soft and mushy on the inside. Are they worth a thirty minute wait of standing around with tourists and kids? I dunno. ‍

Tyriyell B.

Yelp
Great customer service great food the fries hit me so hard definitely the best burgers downtown!!

Jessica W.

Yelp
What do you eat when you are sick of searching for a place in the crowds. Here. Fast and cheap. Food was standard shake shack fare. A little dirty, but I'm not going to judge considering the crowds would be impossible to keep Up with

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Traveled to New Orleans for a conference and while not authentic NO food it was closest to my hotel and we don't have them near where I live back home. You place your order at a kiosk so not a whole lot of "service" to recommend. The wait was a little long given it was early in the week and post dinner rush. I got the regular cheeseburger, fries with cheese on the side, and a cookies and cream shake. Relatively small place, seating for under two dozen but I was taking it back to my hotel anyway. I know now why they call it "Shake Shack" and not "Burger Shack". The burger was just "ok". Not bad but not the life altering experience. The fried were crispy and well salted. The cheese sauce was a solid blob by the time I opened it even though it didn't take me long to get to it. The shake tho?? Delicious! Lots of cookie pieces and cream filling bits. I'd go back just for the shake. So save your money and for a good burger go elsewhere. Go for the shakes!

Maria M.

Yelp
It was recently my friends birthday and even though we are social distancing, I wanted them to feel special and I know that they love Shake Shack so I had it delivered to them. They were very pleased with the meal and said it was all hot, fresh and delicious. As you probably know, there is always a risk when you order delivery. So many things can go wrong, but Shake Shack was on point! I'm thankful that I was able to make my friend feel special with their comfort food on their day.

Jorge P.

Yelp
Just like many other shake shack. Food was on point and quickly made. Great location in Canal St.

Fred C.

Yelp
This is my first time ever eating at a shake shack. This was the best hamburger and hotdog that I had on my vacation in New Orleans. I had to keep going back. Friendly and prompt service. Clean restrooms.

Chassidy S.

Yelp
Shake Shack is my favorite burger restaurant. The quality and taste of the food at Shake Shack is always consistent and fresh no matter which store you visit. The store on Canal didn't disappoint. They've taken tons of precautions in response to the COVID crisis. There was hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes readily available for customers. They have kiosks which made ordering fast and easy. The staff was friendly, they made the guests feel welcomed.

Ivy N.

Yelp
The food was amazing!the fries were awesome!the service was good too!they made our food in a few seconds!the decorations were nice and pretty for Halloween!!the decorations were

Tomas R.

Yelp
I may be biased but when it comes to national fast/casual dining spot chains but I heavily lean towards Shake Shack and Whataburger. Shake Shack knocks it out of the park each and every time with my order. I really enjoy their menu. I love their burgers and those cheese fries are the reason I'll never be a 30 in jeans again. But eh I'm not complaining. Team is always friendly and I love the Luna Botanicals wall they feature! I'll be back when I'm craving their fries or an open faced dog.

Anu R.

Yelp
Mushroom burger was yummy! Fast service and clean restrooms. Will definitely be back!
