So so disappointing. Waited two years for this place to make it, and a few days till some of the furore of new opening had died down. The shakes were good, but the burgers were... no other way to put it, inedible.
Their "Golden State Double" burger was literally just a pile of unseasoned steamed ground beef (with some raw bits at the edges), actually worse than it sounds. How do you manage to remove flavor from beef? Well they did it. Their specials were slightly better, only because the sauce and bits of boxed toppings covered up the terrible patties flavor and texture.
The people were friendly enough, though far too many in that tiny Kitchen, then some random guy wandering around, standing at the counter futzing with every order handling the food in order to appear to be doing something and glaring at the customers, making it feel less than sanitary.
Even McD's is better than this, and a darn sight cheaper too. There is no comparison to the better chains like In'n'Out or 5-Guys let alone real burger joints like Phylis, Ozzy's, Vineburger or heaven forbid you compare it to a smashburger from Lunchbox.
Shake-shack need to learn how to make just a basic burger before adding sauces to cover the bad cook/bad ingredients. Get the basics right.
I can excuse some of this as teething problems, but this is a national chain. They should have it down to an art-form. If they're a victim of their own success don't just hire more people, getting under each others feet and crowding the grill. Instead work up some sliders on the side or give out out some small lemonades, just anything to keep the punters in the queue happy while they wait, and then take your time to deliver a product that's worth the price.
