Review: Shake Shack’s New Korean Fried Chicken Sandwiches and Nuggets | Eater NY

"When Shake Shack tried its hand at Korean-style fried chicken, I found the execution deeply flawed: the chain’s version uses skinless white meat instead of the dark, bone-in pieces I prefer, the gochujang glaze on the patty tasted indistinct and murky, and the kimchi slaw was pallid rather than vibrant — overall I wouldn’t order the sandwich again. The nuggets grew on me because they are actual morsels of chicken rather than a pureed amalgam and tasted pleasantly salty, but their gochujang-mayo was oily to the point of reminding me of vaseline and I often preferred the nuggets without sauce. The fries were a disappointment too — frozen, rippled, chalky — and the gochujang sauce only improved them by comparison. Taken together, I view the gochujang fried chicken sandwich as one of the most poorly conceived and horribly executed things the chain has sold, and I worry that Shake Shack’s ubiquity could mislead diners about what Korean fried chicken truly is." - Robert Sietsema

OK, if you’re lowball rating an airport Shake Shack… news flash: it’s an airport freshly made sorta fast food burger place. You’re gonna have to wait a little. It’s fresh. Burger was good, fries were fries. It was all hot and fresh. Bun was soft but grilled crisp. What more do you want? You all probably ordered the hot dog or chicken sandwiches. Go home. It’s a grilled burger and fries. Not filet mignon.

Shake shack is located near concourse A just after TSA security with a few other food options sharing the same dining area. This was convenient as you csn order before you have the option to head down to your particular gate, and there are electrical outlets so you can charge your device while eating. Shake shack staff were very pleasant and the operation appeared to be clean and staffed sufficiently to ensure quick food preparation, which was exactly what I experienced. Hamburger was fairly small but tasty so I can recommend that, however I was surprised that cheese fries simply came with a side of pasty cheese sauce. Not exactly what I was expecting, won't do that again... make sure you use the name 'Kip' or 'LaFawnduh" when you order, moay staff can't help but crack up laughing - but one guy will not be broken and yells out the order name with a straight face each time. Absolutely Epic.

Ordered the Shack Burger (loved the shack sauce), the Chicken Shack and Fries! The food was either really really good or I was really hungry! Either way we enjoyed the food. The service was amazing! Eric took our order and he was very friendly with each and every customer! The line was super long but the wait time wasn’t! The prices weren’t even high which is rare in airports! Bravo Shake Shack!!

She was trying to charge me extra for the water that I didnt get from there! and when i told her its my water she didn’t care to apologize or anything instead that just ignorant and on the phone texting all the whole time while talking to customers. It would be nice if you put someone seem to care the job and customer need at the front. Also shroom very hard over cook i can tell the oil was old. Ps. I was there around 7.35-8am 9/17

If you order a cheeseburger it comes literally with nothing else. No lettuce no sauce no nothing. You pay 1.99 excl tax for each addition eg avo or bacon. Staff is friendly but very very slow. Atmosphere is similar to other food court airport places.

We ordered two smoke shack burgers. They’re a little small so if you’re really hungry get the double. Fries were nice and warm and fresh. The cheese fries comes with cheese in the side the cheese is mediocre. The cookies and cream shake was good but I’ve had better. Overall pretty good for a quick bite in the airport.

This place is shady. Their prices are extremely high which is expected in an airport. My problem lies with them pricing their grab and go items incorrectly and charging double their listed prices for water. I grabbed a water bottle that stated the price was $3.29 and they charged me $5.99 when I looked at the receipt. They made no attempt to fix it when I pointed it out and virtually ignored me to go to the next customer.

Let me start with the service wasnt bad and the time it took was fine. The burgers were okay but nothing great. I've had Shake Shack before at another location and really enjoyed it. This time was just trash, perhaps I shouldn't have expected much from airport food but the shake just tasted like chocolate syrup that all pooled at the bottom but the worst was the cheese fries. The advertising on the menu in the airport shows the cheese melted over the fries, we got cold fries with a side of cold hard cheese that wouldn't even come out of the container. I flipped it directly over the fries and the cheese did not move. I tried dipping them instead and it just wasn't happening. Super disappointing but oh well. Don't get the cheese fries.
