California’s First Drive-Thru Shake Shack Opens This Week in Torrance | Eater LA

"I note that Danny Meyer’s burger chain behemoth, which has opened nearly two dozen Los Angeles locations over the past eight years, will open its first Southern California drive-thru on Thursday, August 15 in a purpose-built structure at 1875 West 190th Street in Torrance. It’s fitting for SoCal’s drive-thru culture: the Torrance site will be Shake Shack’s 36th drive-thru operation in the United States and the chain’s 49th outlet overall in California. Begun as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in 2001, the menu remains focused on burgers, milkshakes, and crinkle-cut fries. To fete the opening, Shake Shack will host a food drive on August 14–15 for New Challenge Ministries (dining on August 14 is reserved for friends and family), and on opening day it will donate $1 from every sandwich sold to that food bank." - Mona Holmes

Sure, this is a chain restaurant, but I had a delicious burger served by friendly staff, and the dining room was spotless. Can’t go wrong with a classic double cheeseburger.

I first visited around grand opening week! Since then, I've dined in multiple times and tried their drive through once. There were a few hiccups the first month, but this is natural as their staff were getting acclimated. I could sense they were genuinely apologetic and wanted to deliver the best service. During one visit, they forgot to add avocados in my burger (it was an avocado burger too!) but they gave me a free shake and fries voucher to make up for that. It was hilarious, but I appreciate the gesture! 4 months later, after finally redeeming both vouchers, the service and consistency of the food has improved a lot. I look forward to great things and hope the consistency continues throughout the years! I highly recommend this location if you're around the area. It's located around the 405 in a brand new plaza with other newly opened fast food chains. This Shake Shack also comes with a drive through (which I believe, is unique to this location)!

Google
I will never go to a shake shack ever again. The bugers we spent almost 14.00 on 3 burgers were not even cooked all the way. The fries tasted like old oil, and we paid for a small order of fries $6.00. I'm good off this place is will never come back here again the food is not worth it at all. Wish everyone the best.

We came in about 159pm on this beautiful Monday. Adrian was the cashier / team member that took our order. Not only was he patient but also polite and quick. He seemed very knowledgeable at suggesting items as it was our first time in the restaurant. He also took the time to let us actually dig in and then come check on how we were doing and ask us what we thought of the food. Definitely will be back. I got the shake stack burger and it was amazing! Beautiful presentation along with delicious crunch into the fried portobello. Shout out to the team behind the grill as well. Topped it off with a thirst quenching berry pomegranate lemonade.

I could not pass up the opportunity to post on a business. doing good deeds 💯 I was at this location and this is during the Los Angeles fires. there is a fire truck parked out front. they were inside getting their food and the manager decided to comp their meal. i am humbled by this gesture of kindness so I figured I might as well pay it forward this location is the spot to go if you want to be treated with respect. my hat is off you you Mr manager you got 5 stars with ease.

Google
Typical smashed burger, good flavor, but kind of smallish single patty for the money. Fries were super crispy and size was shareable. Strawberry shake was excellent.

Google
I walked into a nice large dining area. The menu is large enough to read, though rather high. The menu list is large with a plethora of choices. The staff is nice and seems happy to be working there. I got the "smoked shack" burger. The cherry peppers were new to me and they taste incredible. The cheese was melted on the patty, which also was large and nice to taste.

My server Adrian made my meal a pleasant experience. Good customer service is becoming a rare commodity and Adrian delivered 100%

Yelp
Shake Shack in Torrance hits the spot, especially as a late-night option when everything else is closed. We got the double cheeseburger and spicy cheese fries. The burger was juicy and flavorful, classic Shake Shack quality. As for the fries, they honestly don't need the cheese or the spice. The fries on their own are already really good. The "spicy" part just comes from a sprinkle of Cajun seasoning, which feels like a bit of a gimmick to charge a little extra. It's not bad, but definitely not necessary. Overall, still a solid choice. Shake Shack rarely disappoints.

Yelp
what happaend to shake shack. not what they used to be. food here is horrible, overpriced and employees definitely need more training with customer service! won't be going back!

Yelp
Here in California, as long as In-N-Out Burger exists, a place like Shake Shack cannot succeed with this level of quality and pricing. I visited today and left convinced of that. Sure, people might be initially tempted by the hype--a "famous New York burger"--but once they've tried it, I doubt they'd go back. The burger itself is barely the size of a child's palm, with a patty that rivals ordinary meat in quality. The fries look like half a portion and taste no better. No drink refills either. All of that adds up to around $23. For that price, you could enjoy a gourmet burger at a restaurant in Laguna Beach. Honestly, even In-N-Out delivers far better value. What's more disappointing is the service. The staff offer no warmth--just robotic gestures. They're too focused on completing tasks to engage with customers, and their smiles feel obligatory. This restaurant radiates pretentiousness without substance.

Yelp
My first time, had friend pick up meal for us. Ordered fried pickles and the BLT w/ avocado. My complaint is about the fried pickle order. Coat 4.99 got 10 pieces, 5 of the 10 were whole pieces, the rest were tiny pieces. I work hard for my money, this is a rip off! Let's do the math...$4.99 / 7 pieces = $00.71 each Rip Off!!!

Yelp
We were on our way into town after flying in to visit my daughter and her fiancé, and were looking for lunch. Shake Shack got the nod. This is a nice, new place. The decor is typical Shake Shack, as is the food - made fresh every time. My wife had their Shack Burger Single, and I had the Avocado Bacon Burger. She ordered Iced Tea, and I had the Oreo Funnel Cake Shake. I also ordered a side order of fries to share. Napkins and ketchup and water are available at an island near the entrance. You can order from 3 order stations, or do what we did and talk with someone at the counter who took our order. You pay, they give you a number, and you take it to your table - they bring out the food. Hot, fresh, Tasty - that's how I'd describe Shake Shack. The avocado on the Avocado Burger was generous, and tasted good. The shop was clean. What's not to like?

Yelp
Went through the drive through and the girl taking our order was pretty rude and super impatient trying to rush us to order. It was pretty annoying. The wait in the drive through was about just about ten minutes long with just two cars in front so it wasn't bad. When we got to the window it was the same service. Rude and rushing us. As for the food itself, the truffle fries don't taste like truffle and the fries were flavorless. The chicken sandwiches I think are the best item on the menu. Which is what we got this time. I would only suggest those since the hamburgers are very flavorless, small and expensive for what you get. Shack Shake itself is pretty expensive in general for the portions you are getting and the taste. I wish they had combos you could purchase.

Yelp
Thought we would stop in to have a Frozen Chocolate Custard. We ordered the small for $4.99, with $0.51 tax, for a total of $5.50. We thought it was kind of high-priced. When we saw the cup with two small portions, each smaller than a golf ball of custard, it was way overpriced. Seriously, we know food prices have increased, but holy S#!T!! The custard wasn't even frozen. When it was served to us, it was half-melted. I make it a habit never to return food, especially when kids are working. Do not want spit in our food. The flavor was good, what little there was to taste. We didn't eat any food. But looking at the menu, it seemed high. If the custard was any indication, the food is overpriced. This chain will go down with Five Guys, another bad value for the money!! Will we go back, probably NOT!

Yelp
Meh. Over rated. Over priced. Very underwhelming. Hubbers asked what I might want for lunch. He gave me two choices: In n Out OR Lee's Sandwiches. While I was giving it thought, he threw Shake Shack in the mix. Needless to say: the decision was quick: I decided on this place since I haven't tried it yet. So I skimmed through the menu and decided on something different: black truffle shack stack! (The truffle and the 'shroom reeled me in! I'm a fan of both, what can I say...) Also wanted to try their Thai iced tea shake. All to-go to enjoy at home. Hubbers arrived at the perfect time because I was starving! I got even more excited when I caught that familiar truffle aroma coming out of the bag. Then the disappointment began. Immediately one can see - even with limited vision - that this sandwich was not stacked properly. The mushroom is below the top bun, the burger was above the bottom bun and since the cheese have cooled and sorta solidified by the time it got to me AND strategically placed right in the middle, I couldn't re-stack it without tearing apart either the burger or the mushroom. There was a bit of a challenge eating it the way it was presented. And for some weird reason, the truffle aroma disappeared... what?! It was delish, but eating it in its deformed structure kinda took away a probable better experience. It left a full but unsatisfied feeling, and those are never fun. Thai iced tea shake was alright. FOOD: 3. SERVICE: 1. Hubbers said he was the only one at the drive thru, so that tells me they weren't busy. When another car came up from behind him, they'd asked him to park at one of their assigned spaces to serve the guest behind him (I guess putting our order together required more time.) There is no excuse why my burger looked the way it did since they were given more time to put it together properly. What a let down. VALUE: 1. $60+ for 2 burgers, bacon cheese fries, chicken nuggets and a dog treat?! An even bigger let down. PARKING: Shared with others. I've been through here before (to pick up stuff for the Hubbers) and most people take their orders to go. Shouldn't be an issue. OVERALL: 1.5. My immediate thought was I should have gone with one of the other choices for lunch. One and done?! Leaning toward a resounding YES.

Yelp
I've eaten at Shake Shack a few times, but this was my first time visiting the new location they just opened in Torrance. Inside was bright and clean, as expected of a new restaurant. You can order at the counter or at the kiosk if you want to handle it yourself. I really wanted to try some of their seasonal menu, especially after I heard they had some black truffle items. I got the black truffle burger, parmesan garlic fries with black truffle sauce, and Christmas cookie shake. The black truffle sauce they used in the burger and served on the side with the fries was divine! I just wasn't impressed with the burger patty itself, or with the portion of fries for the price I paid. The shake was sweet and delicious, just like a sugar cookie. Shake Shack's not my favorite burger joint, but I'd go back for the shakes. Also the service because the workers at this location were above and beyond!

Yelp
The good: Shakes are $7. I got a Thai tea shake and was ecstatic about the flavor option. I love that their change their milkshake flavors and keep it interesting. The drive-thru line is very convenient. They have both and indoor and outdoor seating area. The interior is modern with modern art. They have self-ordering tablets inside. The bad: The shake was too sweet and something was off about the flavor. I think they could tone down the sweetness on all of their shakes. I think most of their menu items are very calorie dense (even compared with other fast food stores). The interesting: Despite its name, shakes aren't their primary product. I wish they were and that they offered more shake flavors at one time. Their menu reminds me of Starbucks with the coloring and layout.

Yelp
Rating: 3.5 Came here to get a burger and shake. The shake: Cookies and Cream was amazing But... the meat on the Shackburger needed seasoning--so bad. It tasted SO bland. If it weren't for the ShackSauce this burger would have been an epic fail. I did love the softness of the bread but I NEED MY FOOD TO BE SEASONED, period. They missed the mark... STAFF were super kind and friendly came and grabbed our discard for us. I appreciated the level of customer service... I just really need them to season their meat and then they will be poppin'

Yelp
I could write a whole review about shake shack, but I'm not going to. In general and overall, Shake Shack is way overpriced for ok food. $10 for a burger, $5-6 for fries and I don't even know how a drink is tbh. You leaving paying like $20-25 for just "alright" food. AND THEY DON'T EVEN DO COMBOS! I can go to a mom and pop burger joint and get a way better burger for like $15 WITHOUT fries and a drink! Don't waste your time people. Shake Shack is not it.
google avatar

Taylor U.

Yelp
I love shake shack! And this location has drive thru! This location opened recently which is nice. However there is lots of traffic around the fast food so not super quick to get to. This location is pretty huge. Their food always taste amazing but it's super expensive. I got their Chocolate yule log shake. Over 1000 calories but tasted amazing! I would definitely recommend if you love chocolate and sweets! I ordered ahead through app so I didn't really interact with the employees. It was slow so I just heard the employees talk loud by the register.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick meal and was blown away. I ordered the Smoke Shack burger, and it was perfect. The patty was juicy, topped with the right amount of smoky bacon and spicy cherry peppers, giving it an incredible flavor that kept me coming back for each bite. I paired it with a vanilla shake that was rich, creamy, and smooth, everything you want in a classic shake! And, of course, the crinkle cut fries were on point. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and just the right amount of salt. Service was friendly, and the food came out quickly.
google avatar

Ryna D.

Yelp
We're really happy this location opened as it's much more convenient for us than the one at Del Amo. I'm a little puzzled by the reviews as the quality here is consistent with all other Shake Shack locations I've been to. The SmokeShack, Shack Stack, and the truffle burger are my all time favorites.

Yelp
Amazing burger Patty's and very clean place. Fast easy self service. Great flover nice thick Patty's.

Yelp
New location with plenty of parking and a drive thru! Visited during the F&F soft opening and service was great! The only hiccup was the missing chicken in the chicken sandwiches... Luckily we dined in. Was sad they ran out of my favorite burger the Shack Stack :( I guess it's everyone's favorite too! The shackburger, bacon cheese fries and mango passionfruit lemonade were good. Skip the peach shake unless you like artificial peach flavoring.

Yelp
Shake Shack's first ever drive thru in LA County is here and it's located in Torrance! This South Bay girl is so excited! I got to check out this new Shake Shack tonight for a Friends and Family event and I can definitely say it is awesome! The drive thru has two lanes; making it very efficient. The employees were quick to take orders and orders were given out promptly. Service was definitely on point. My friend and I got the Veggie Shack, the Avocado Bacon Chicken, Cheese Fries, Cookies and Crème Shake and Peaches and Crème Shake. The sandwiches were delicious. I especially enjoyed the crispness of the Avocado Bacon Chicken. The shakes were sweet and refreshing; making them the perfect summer treat. This location with a drive thru is the perfect location as it's right by the 405 freeway. It's where the old Millies restaurant used to be. (Those who grew up in the South Bay should know where this is ;) but if you are not OG South Bay person; this is right at the corner of 190th and Western!) This location is definitely going to make busy folks always on the go happy! I know I for one am super happy to see the new Shake Shack here with its cool drive thru! I look forward to coming back soon.
google avatar

Yelp
Shake shack is a nice change to have in our area. It is a little pricey for a burger and fries (separate purchase--but gotta have fries with a burger!) Love the choices of food and drinks! Service is decent. There are kiosks that take your order, you take a number, then you wait and a server brings your food to where you're seated.
google avatar

Noba N.

Yelp
First drive through shake shack in Torrance! I never had their burgers so I was excited! Fries SUPER crunchy and light. I feel a little too salty for some people but I was okay with it. Their single burger is super small but perfect amount for me. They allowed dogs in the place to order and we ate outside. I ordered a doggie biscuit and they accidentally made a pup icecream so ended up giving it to us for free. Our dog was so caught up in the cup we were able to eat our burger in peace so I may do this again in the future lol The only thing I wouldn't order again is their peach tea. It was completely flavorless. I felt the peach as a slight aftertaste which is a bummer. Maybe I just had the end of a batch? Hard to tell. Regardless staff were super kind. Place super clean. Fast service. Next to the fwy A great place to go!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered avocado bacon burger but there was no bacon or avocado...The saddest looking burnt burger
google avatar

Roberto G.

Yelp
Came in to this Shake Shack location during their soft opening and was not disappointed. Initially came in thinking that I would get their bacon avocado burger and a shroom burger, but unfortunately on that day they did not have their shroom burger, which is okay. Ordering is super easy, can do it via the self service kiosks but you can also order from the register as well. What's really great is that this location does have a drive thru as well if the craving ever hits on the way home! Once we ordered it was about a 10 minute wait before our food was brought over for us. We ordered the avocado bacon burger and the chicken shack. We also ordered the cheese fries and a couple of shakes as well (Chocolate and a black and white). The chicken shack was really crispy and juicy, and the avocado bacon burger was also really good (just needed a dash more salt). Overall our meal was really delicious, everyone there was so friendly, very attentive. Was really impressed by the service here too. Location is brand new and as expected was very clean as well. Would recommend for anyone having a shake shack craving.
google avatar

Veronica W.

Yelp
Hit the spot at 11 pm! Fries crispy. Slightly over cooked but they were free :) chicken bites good. Really great customer service.
google avatar

Nima A.

Yelp
Best fast food burger buns in the game; they are so fluffy, soft and fresh. The fries were really good too, you can tell they use fresh oil. My only critique is the burger sauce was lacking flavor. Next time I'll sub the sauce for ketchup and mayo. The service was friendly and fast.
google avatar

Craig Y.

Yelp
Located off 190th St in Torrance. This little area recently opened with three eating places Chick Fil A, Panera and Shake Shack the parking is shared so it may fill up fast at peak hours they all have drive thrus as well. I can see why the drive thru backs up since they make the burgers fresh to order so it can take a little while. I have yet to dine inside that will be next time but the drive thru process was pretty smooth I advise you look at a menu previously before going thru cause the menu has a lot to choose from. Overall not a bad experience granted it was 11pm lol. I'll be back again.
google avatar

Jacqueline N.

Yelp
Supposed to be the avocado bacon burger. Quality seems to be okay. Avocado was hard. Wait was long. Bread was soft. Meat was dry. Not really worth the price

YT Y.

Yelp
I ordered the triple cheese shack, shack stack, and a chocolate shake. The triple cheese shack was decent, but the patty was a bit dry since I had it well-done. The shack stack, on the other hand, was delicious! The chocolate shake tasted great, though the portion was smaller than expected. Overall, the meal was enjoyable, but I found it a bit pricey."
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
My boyfriend I've been wanting to try this place we see it sometimes on the way home decided to stop in tonight and try it not too impressed, for a standard house burger, chicken sandwich, a Creamsicle float and at about $30 we were still both hungry afterward. My boyfriend said the burger wasn't that great and my chicken sandwich was average. One thing that irks me about the chicken sandwich was one of my biggest pet peeve's at a burger joint between lettuce, pickles and sauce, making my bun soggy and fall apart for the same price, could've just gone to Black Bear diner, and gotten a good meal with 2 sides and been full
google avatar

Father F.

Yelp
You're charging over 20 bucks for a fast food burger, fries and drink and then you go with the tip shaming move. Pay your employees for Christ sake. Sick or it. I'll be going to In-n-Out for now on.
google avatar

Shecrise J.

Yelp
I enjoyed it, and I'm so happy this here now I enjoyed the flavor of the food, I'm happy it was well salted, the service was good. I didn't go inside, but I will next time with kids and check it out! So far so good!
google avatar

Sepora S.

Yelp
Amazing SERVICE!! Friendly server was so helpful. She made sure our table was clean and brought out all of our food quickly . The food is good but over priced. Super small portions. The place was packed on a late Saturday night , but we had seating and food served quickly . The employees had good attitudes and that is what really makes the difference for me and my over all experience.
google avatar

Al N.

Yelp
Shake shack is good! Yes, it is kinda pricey for a burger but you can taste the quality of the ingredients. My coworker and I both ordered their truffle burger, cheese fries, and shakes, which came out to $60 with tip. I will have to say that's pricy for a lunch but it is a treat once in a while. We loved the burgers and shakes! The burger was the perfect size for us. We don't like those huge burgers which fall apart when you eat it or you need a life and fork to eat it. She even wanted to order a burger to go for dinner. I'll definitely come back if I am craving a burger. The service here was mixed. Some staff seemed to be very helpful while others just stood around and didn't offer help, even when I made eye contact...weird. Knocking off a star for value and mixed service.
google avatar

Desmond B.

Yelp
The Oreo cookie funnel cake milk shake and a single Pattie smoke shack burger were really good, but as small as a McDonalds cheeseburger. paying $18 is way too much.
google avatar

Myisha J.

Yelp
Food is terrible and not worth the price!! Food was sloppily put together. Service was professional but did not make up for the terrible food.

Tony N.

Yelp
It's amazing how much they charge for a half ass put together burger and grilled cheese. $40 before tip for two single shack burgers, one grilled cheese, a fry and a drink. The burgers are smaller than my fist, the grilled cheese, I guess what can you expect.
google avatar

Chloe T.

Yelp
Not the best experience. Paid almost $40 for the SMALLEST burgers + cheese fries. Would've complained about the cheese fries but the super friendly cashier gave us extra cheese when she noticed they skimped us. She was the best, super friends! The place is overall clean and renovated since it just opened, but I will not be coming back because the price was just not worth it for the mid food.
google avatar

Kory R.

Yelp
Delicious but super pricey! Really enjoyed the burger! Might like it more than in-n-out!
google avatar

Jessica V.

Yelp
Quicker than most locations with the drive through, and so fresh and delicious! I always love the chicken and the fries!! Husband loves the burger. It hits the spot and it's pricey but it's good quality!

Cheryl T.

Yelp
Yay Shake Shack is finally open and I order 3 burgers, 2 fries and 1 drink for $48 and get a burger looking like this.I could've went to plenty other places but I have been waiting for this to open. I'm so disappointed that the food was not appealing but also it was not very tasty. Customer service through the drive thru was also not friendly and seemed to be in a hurry. Unfortunately we won't be back but wanted to leave feedback and hopefully the food and customer service improves.
google avatar

Big J.

Yelp
Food is decent. Service is Good but for $21 dollars I would expect more. . I only got a single burger with fries and a shake
google avatar

Ira A.

Yelp
I know this is a new location but my first experience here wasn't good at all... I've always had good experiences at Shake Shack, it was shocking to come home to a super burnt hot dog, that I ended up eating anyway cause it I didn't want it to go to waste. It was very unpleasant, and didn't finish it cause it was hard to even bite through, cause even the bun was burnt too! I also had a shake and that was pretty much melted... definitely not coming to this location again.
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
Testing out the new drive thru location. Sat in due to the drive thru being busy...but next time we'll test out the drive thru. Food was great. Service was friendly. Shake shack is a little pricy in my opinion but had an overall great experience.
google avatar

Cassie B.

Yelp
It was a bomb burger .. I got the double shack burger and honestly would've been fine with the single .. the meat is juicy but crispy kind of like a smash burger .. i didn't really care for the cherry peppers they were a bit too tangy .. but other than that no complaints good solid burger .. the service was good for a drive thru quick and easy ! The price is a bit high but I don't mind because the burger was bomb .. got a side of ranch with it which was also super good and they didn't charge for it .. next time I'll try the fries and chicken sandwich which I heard was also really good

Yelp
I placed my order online for pick up. I'm giving them 3 stars because they messed up my order and it wasn't ready on time. I had to wait 10 minutes. Time is critical when you're on your break. I ordered a veggie burger with lettuce and tomato and paid $1.99 for avocado. There were no lettuce, tomato and avocado in the burger. I paid $11.48 + tax for a small plain veggie burger. I called and requested for a refund. Let's see if the'll refund me that $1.99. Food was just okay but overpriced. UPDATE: As of today, 08/26/24 - no refund as promised by the manager for the $1.99 avocado that I did not get. I know it's only $1.99 but it's the principle that counts.

Paul V.

Yelp
The burger is kind of ok, but somehow it is missing something, like flavor! The chicken nuggets are the size of the popcorn version and they are overpriced if portioned this way. The ingredients seem fresh, but the cooking needs work. Feel sorry for the cow when its death turned into an unappetizing burger. Please go back to square one and retrain the staff. And yes, the score is being lenient, because the staff seem to be trying since this is a new location.

Yelp
Great burgers for fast food and good drinks selection but can get pricey when adding more ingredients to your burgers

Yelp
Food isn't very good. 2nd shake shack we have been to. Both pretty bad. I thought the food was terrible.

Christy T.

Yelp
We ordered the Smoke shack burger, Parmesan fries, cheese fries and poochini. Delicious. Poochini is a dog treat. My dog loves it. Service is great. Food was ready when we got there. Ambience is casual.
