"I note that Danny Meyer’s burger chain behemoth, which has opened nearly two dozen Los Angeles locations over the past eight years, will open its first Southern California drive-thru on Thursday, August 15 in a purpose-built structure at 1875 West 190th Street in Torrance. It’s fitting for SoCal’s drive-thru culture: the Torrance site will be Shake Shack’s 36th drive-thru operation in the United States and the chain’s 49th outlet overall in California. Begun as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in 2001, the menu remains focused on burgers, milkshakes, and crinkle-cut fries. To fete the opening, Shake Shack will host a food drive on August 14–15 for New Challenge Ministries (dining on August 14 is reserved for friends and family), and on opening day it will donate $1 from every sandwich sold to that food bank." - Mona Holmes
