California’s First Drive-Thru Shake Shack Opens This Week in Torrance | Eater LA

"I note that Danny Meyer’s burger chain behemoth, which has opened nearly two dozen Los Angeles locations over the past eight years, will open its first Southern California drive-thru on Thursday, August 15 in a purpose-built structure at 1875 West 190th Street in Torrance. It’s fitting for SoCal’s drive-thru culture: the Torrance site will be Shake Shack’s 36th drive-thru operation in the United States and the chain’s 49th outlet overall in California. Begun as a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in 2001, the menu remains focused on burgers, milkshakes, and crinkle-cut fries. To fete the opening, Shake Shack will host a food drive on August 14–15 for New Challenge Ministries (dining on August 14 is reserved for friends and family), and on opening day it will donate $1 from every sandwich sold to that food bank." - Mona Holmes

First time in my life at the shake shake shack shack! My mom loves this place and wants to go all the time but this is the first time I was allowed to get anything. My brother but didn't because some people say he has to diet but I honestly don't agree. Anyway, got the limited edition French onion burger which is good. I like adding the shack sauce and ranch. Onion rings and fries are good but not special. I did like the lettuce wrapped chicken sandwich though. Staff was also great and thr actual store was exquisitely orderly.

Google
Shake Shack is amazing. Its somewhere in between fast food and full blown restaurant. I suppose that's where the term fast casual comes from and is supposed to represent. Their shakes are my favorite shakes I've ever had. I love to get the seasonal ones. They're very creative with their flavors. They're also creative with their seasonal burgers as well. One word of caution before going to Shake Shack though; their food is very expensive.

Cami W.

Google
Sure, this is a chain restaurant, but I had a delicious burger served by friendly staff, and the dining room was spotless. Can’t go wrong with a classic double cheeseburger.

John P.

Google
Did the drive through to get a quick burger. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the Shackburger was very small and smashed together in a haphazard way with a crumpled bun. It was almost $9 for a burger half the size of a Famous Star or Whopper. The taste was OK, better than McDonald's, but I probably won't go there again.

Paul

Google
tried the smokeshack for the first time today thinking it would have some bbq sauce in it. but it was just chili peppers and mayo sauce. almost didn’t finish it cause it was pretty bad. better stick to the double patty shackburger if you want your money’s worth. tables are a little sticky/dirty sometimes. staff in front look like they are being held hostage and being just polite enough not to get executed.

Google
I got the Big Shack for free as part of the Veterans Day freebie. It was so big and delicious. It is Shake Shack's answer to McDonald's Big Mac

Google
Got there and the guy helped us sign up for a free sandwich! Very helpful very accommodating and very good! The food was also tasty. Can't say nothing but good things about this place

Jeremy E.

Google
The order process was very impersonal felt like they did not want me to buy food there and at the window the order was incomplete so I had to return to complete the order and no one really cared that anything happened there was no I’m sorry so we took the food home to enjoy it, and I would say the chicken sandwich tasted like a burnt piece of material. I could not describe the cheeseburger. Had a 1 inch white onion sliced in it that was very overpowering. I would not recommend spending $47 for two meals that are not that great.

Yelp
Love this shake shack. It's right off the 405 exit/entrance & they're open until 11pm. This location always gets their shakes right & the food comes out super hot.

Yelp
My son picked up dinner for the family so I requested a regular double cheeseburger, plain fries, a chocolate shake. I really prefer a solid basic burger to all of these designer burgers with the latest fancy sauce or newfangled trendy topping. Shake Shake serves a perfectly acceptable basic burger, if a tad overpriced. The crinkle cut fries are good but on the meager side. Why are burger joints so miserly with fries when potatoes are so cheap? The basic shake for $5 is a good value. I'm not sure why, but Shake Shack isn't as impressive as it was a few years ago when the chain began expanding. The food at the outdoor mall in Las Vegas was mind blowing when they first opened. Lately, it's become just another burger joint. It's sad that expansion usually marks the end of what made a company great in the first place.

Yelp
Shake Shack! I like this newer one on 190th! (Approximately 1 year+ since opening) Been to the others at Del Amo Mall and in El Segundo. This one is clean and laid out nicely for indoor dining. They also have a drive thru. Kind and helpful order taker at the counter. Bummer that they don't have the plant based shakes anymore. You get a number and someone brings your order to your table. But I did enjoy their hot dog. I tried some of my hubby's crinkle cheese cut fries. His burger looked delish! He finished it and said it was tasty. For dessert, he got their custard. Another good choice! I ate light at this visit due to eating several appetizers at a Halloween party a few hours prior. Would return though and a get the sane items the hubby had!

Yelp
A mixed experience at this famous burger restaurant. I got the chicken burger, nuggets and fries. The fries were well-done, perhaps a tad too much, and not as fresh as I would expect for Shake Shack. The Chicken burger was a bit of a let down, but appropriately seasoned at the least. Nuggets were fair. Overall, a fairly average experience. Service was good though! But a few things could be improved for a truly captivating experience.

Yelp
First time coming here new location first time Came for the deal bigger then the Big Mac lol I didn't get that just the single was very delicious happy coming here great hot fries n crispy thank you soooo much happy camper

Yelp
I want to eat there more often now. I like the char they put on the burger. If you like your burgers cooked rare, this might not be the place for you.

Yelp
Went through the drive through and the girl taking our order was pretty rude and super impatient trying to rush us to order. It was pretty annoying. The wait in the drive through was about just about ten minutes long with just two cars in front so it wasn't bad. When we got to the window it was the same service. Rude and rushing us. As for the food itself, the truffle fries don't taste like truffle and the fries were flavorless. The chicken sandwiches I think are the best item on the menu. Which is what we got this time. I would only suggest those since the hamburgers are very flavorless, small and expensive for what you get. Shack Shake itself is pretty expensive in general for the portions you are getting and the taste. I wish they had combos you could purchase.

Yelp
We were on our way into town after flying in to visit my daughter and her fiancé, and were looking for lunch. Shake Shack got the nod. This is a nice, new place. The decor is typical Shake Shack, as is the food - made fresh every time. My wife had their Shack Burger Single, and I had the Avocado Bacon Burger. She ordered Iced Tea, and I had the Oreo Funnel Cake Shake. I also ordered a side order of fries to share. Napkins and ketchup and water are available at an island near the entrance. You can order from 3 order stations, or do what we did and talk with someone at the counter who took our order. You pay, they give you a number, and you take it to your table - they bring out the food. Hot, fresh, Tasty - that's how I'd describe Shake Shack. The avocado on the Avocado Burger was generous, and tasted good. The shop was clean. What's not to like?

Yelp
That was theeee best burger I've ever had...I love a soft bun & the burger was cooked perfectly...awesome customer service & clean

Yelp
The food was made to order it was so hot I had to wait 15 minutes to eat it it was very good and the customer service was excellent Adrienne (sorry if I misspelled your name you were amazing I appreciate you I will definitely come back

Yelp
Had the Shroom burger (was a bit skeptical since it's a portobello mushroom breaded and fried) and onion rings. It was tasty and delicious! Service from ordering food at the counter to it being brought out to us was great! Customer service was friendly and helpful. I will definitely be returning. The environment was bright and very clean.

Yelp
Meh. Over rated. Over priced. Very underwhelming. Hubbers asked what I might want for lunch. He gave me two choices: In n Out OR Lee's Sandwiches. While I was giving it thought, he threw Shake Shack in the mix. Needless to say: the decision was quick: I decided on this place since I haven't tried it yet. So I skimmed through the menu and decided on something different: black truffle shack stack! (The truffle and the 'shroom reeled me in! I'm a fan of both, what can I say...) Also wanted to try their Thai iced tea shake. All to-go to enjoy at home. Hubbers arrived at the perfect time because I was starving! I got even more excited when I caught that familiar truffle aroma coming out of the bag. Then the disappointment began. Immediately one can see - even with limited vision - that this sandwich was not stacked properly. The mushroom is below the top bun, the burger was above the bottom bun and since the cheese have cooled and sorta solidified by the time it got to me AND strategically placed right in the middle, I couldn't re-stack it without tearing apart either the burger or the mushroom. There was a bit of a challenge eating it the way it was presented. And for some weird reason, the truffle aroma disappeared... what?! It was delish, but eating it in its deformed structure kinda took away a probable better experience. It left a full but unsatisfied feeling, and those are never fun. Thai iced tea shake was alright. FOOD: 3. SERVICE: 1. Hubbers said he was the only one at the drive thru, so that tells me they weren't busy. When another car came up from behind him, they'd asked him to park at one of their assigned spaces to serve the guest behind him (I guess putting our order together required more time.) There is no excuse why my burger looked the way it did since they were given more time to put it together properly. What a let down. VALUE: 1. $60+ for 2 burgers, bacon cheese fries, chicken nuggets and a dog treat?! An even bigger let down. PARKING: Shared with others. I've been through here before (to pick up stuff for the Hubbers) and most people take their orders to go. Shouldn't be an issue. OVERALL: 1.5. My immediate thought was I should have gone with one of the other choices for lunch. One and done?! Leaning toward a resounding YES.

Yelp
I've eaten at Shake Shack a few times, but this was my first time visiting the new location they just opened in Torrance. Inside was bright and clean, as expected of a new restaurant. You can order at the counter or at the kiosk if you want to handle it yourself. I really wanted to try some of their seasonal menu, especially after I heard they had some black truffle items. I got the black truffle burger, parmesan garlic fries with black truffle sauce, and Christmas cookie shake. The black truffle sauce they used in the burger and served on the side with the fries was divine! I just wasn't impressed with the burger patty itself, or with the portion of fries for the price I paid. The shake was sweet and delicious, just like a sugar cookie. Shake Shack's not my favorite burger joint, but I'd go back for the shakes. Also the service because the workers at this location were above and beyond!

Yelp
I first visited around grand opening week! Since then, I've dined in multiple times and tried their drive through once. There were a few hiccups the first month, but this is natural as their staff were getting acclimated. I could sense they were genuinely apologetic and wanted to deliver the best service. During one visit, they forgot to add avocados in my burger (it was an avocado burger too!) but they gave me a free shake and fries voucher to make up for that. It was hilarious, but I appreciate the gesture! 4 months later, after finally redeeming both vouchers, the service and consistency of the food has improved a lot. I look forward to great things and hope the consistency continues throughout the years! I highly recommend this location if you're around the area. It's located around the 405 in a brand new plaza with other newly opened fast food chains. This Shake Shack also comes with a drive through (which I believe, is unique to this location)!

Yelp
Rating: 3.5 Came here to get a burger and shake. The shake: Cookies and Cream was amazing But... the meat on the Shackburger needed seasoning--so bad. It tasted SO bland. If it weren't for the ShackSauce this burger would have been an epic fail. I did love the softness of the bread but I NEED MY FOOD TO BE SEASONED, period. They missed the mark... STAFF were super kind and friendly came and grabbed our discard for us. I appreciated the level of customer service... I just really need them to season their meat and then they will be poppin'
google avatar

Yelp
I love shake shack! And this location has drive thru! This location opened recently which is nice. However there is lots of traffic around the fast food so not super quick to get to. This location is pretty huge. Their food always taste amazing but it's super expensive. I got their Chocolate yule log shake. Over 1000 calories but tasted amazing! I would definitely recommend if you love chocolate and sweets! I ordered ahead through app so I didn't really interact with the employees. It was slow so I just heard the employees talk loud by the register.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick meal and was blown away. I ordered the Smoke Shack burger, and it was perfect. The patty was juicy, topped with the right amount of smoky bacon and spicy cherry peppers, giving it an incredible flavor that kept me coming back for each bite. I paired it with a vanilla shake that was rich, creamy, and smooth, everything you want in a classic shake! And, of course, the crinkle cut fries were on point. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and just the right amount of salt. Service was friendly, and the food came out quickly.
google avatar

Aina J.

Yelp
The customer service was excellent, except my food was cold to touch and my onion rings were soggy and cold. Bacon cheeseburger onions and a ranch was $18 pretty expensive.

Brandon F.

Yelp
Food is great and staff is always nice and attentive. Will definitely keep coming back.

Yelp
Here in California, as long as In-N-Out Burger exists, a place like Shake Shack cannot succeed with this level of quality and pricing. I visited today and left convinced of that. Sure, people might be initially tempted by the hype--a "famous New York burger"--but once they've tried it, I doubt they'd go back. The burger itself is barely the size of a child's palm, with a patty that rivals ordinary meat in quality. The fries look like half a portion and taste no better. No drink refills either. All of that adds up to around $23. For that price, you could enjoy a gourmet burger at a restaurant in Laguna Beach. Honestly, even In-N-Out delivers far better value. What's more disappointing is the service. The staff offer no warmth--just robotic gestures. They're too focused on completing tasks to engage with customers, and their smiles feel obligatory. This restaurant radiates pretentiousness without substance.

Yelp
The good: Shakes are $7. I got a Thai tea shake and was ecstatic about the flavor option. I love that their change their milkshake flavors and keep it interesting. The drive-thru line is very convenient. They have both and indoor and outdoor seating area. The interior is modern with modern art. They have self-ordering tablets inside. The bad: The shake was too sweet and something was off about the flavor. I think they could tone down the sweetness on all of their shakes. I think most of their menu items are very calorie dense (even compared with other fast food stores). The interesting: Despite its name, shakes aren't their primary product. I wish they were and that they offered more shake flavors at one time. Their menu reminds me of Starbucks with the coloring and layout.

Derrick C.

Yelp
I could write a whole review about shake shack, but I'm not going to. In general and overall, Shake Shack is way overpriced for ok food. $10 for a burger, $5-6 for fries and I don't even know how a drink is tbh. You leaving paying like $20-25 for just "alright" food. AND THEY DON'T EVEN DO COMBOS! I can go to a mom and pop burger joint and get a way better burger for like $15 WITHOUT fries and a drink! Don't waste your time people. Shake Shack is not it.

Amelia M.

Yelp
Very good customer service--especially from Milton! I truly appreciate the kindness, patience, and welcoming attitude he showed throughout my visit. Milton went above and beyond to make sure I felt comfortable and taken care of, and his positive energy made the entire experience so much better. Thank you so much, Milton, for being incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional. Your excellent service did not go unnoticed, and it genuinely made my day!
google avatar

Ryna D.

Yelp
We're really happy this location opened as it's much more convenient for us than the one at Del Amo. I'm a little puzzled by the reviews as the quality here is consistent with all other Shake Shack locations I've been to. The SmokeShack, Shack Stack, and the truffle burger are my all time favorites.
google avatar

Wan L.

Yelp
New location with plenty of parking and a drive thru! Visited during the F&F soft opening and service was great! The only hiccup was the missing chicken in the chicken sandwiches... Luckily we dined in. Was sad they ran out of my favorite burger the Shack Stack :( I guess it's everyone's favorite too! The shackburger, bacon cheese fries and mango passionfruit lemonade were good. Skip the peach shake unless you like artificial peach flavoring.
google avatar

Yelp
Shake Shack's first ever drive thru in LA County is here and it's located in Torrance! This South Bay girl is so excited! I got to check out this new Shake Shack tonight for a Friends and Family event and I can definitely say it is awesome! The drive thru has two lanes; making it very efficient. The employees were quick to take orders and orders were given out promptly. Service was definitely on point. My friend and I got the Veggie Shack, the Avocado Bacon Chicken, Cheese Fries, Cookies and Crème Shake and Peaches and Crème Shake. The sandwiches were delicious. I especially enjoyed the crispness of the Avocado Bacon Chicken. The shakes were sweet and refreshing; making them the perfect summer treat. This location with a drive thru is the perfect location as it's right by the 405 freeway. It's where the old Millies restaurant used to be. (Those who grew up in the South Bay should know where this is ;) but if you are not OG South Bay person; this is right at the corner of 190th and Western!) This location is definitely going to make busy folks always on the go happy! I know I for one am super happy to see the new Shake Shack here with its cool drive thru! I look forward to coming back soon.
google avatar

Noba N.

Yelp
First drive through shake shack in Torrance! I never had their burgers so I was excited! Fries SUPER crunchy and light. I feel a little too salty for some people but I was okay with it. Their single burger is super small but perfect amount for me. They allowed dogs in the place to order and we ate outside. I ordered a doggie biscuit and they accidentally made a pup icecream so ended up giving it to us for free. Our dog was so caught up in the cup we were able to eat our burger in peace so I may do this again in the future lol The only thing I wouldn't order again is their peach tea. It was completely flavorless. I felt the peach as a slight aftertaste which is a bummer. Maybe I just had the end of a batch? Hard to tell. Regardless staff were super kind. Place super clean. Fast service. Next to the fwy A great place to go!

Yelp
Came in to this Shake Shack location during their soft opening and was not disappointed. Initially came in thinking that I would get their bacon avocado burger and a shroom burger, but unfortunately on that day they did not have their shroom burger, which is okay. Ordering is super easy, can do it via the self service kiosks but you can also order from the register as well. What's really great is that this location does have a drive thru as well if the craving ever hits on the way home! Once we ordered it was about a 10 minute wait before our food was brought over for us. We ordered the avocado bacon burger and the chicken shack. We also ordered the cheese fries and a couple of shakes as well (Chocolate and a black and white). The chicken shack was really crispy and juicy, and the avocado bacon burger was also really good (just needed a dash more salt). Overall our meal was really delicious, everyone there was so friendly, very attentive. Was really impressed by the service here too. Location is brand new and as expected was very clean as well. Would recommend for anyone having a shake shack craving.

Yelp
Love Shake Shack, but so disappointed in the service today. I ordered a hot dog and when they called my name I asked for mustard. He told me they were out. Another person came and told me that they have been asking for mustard for a while and they haven't sent it. What? How do you even sell hot dogs and not have mustard? The manager should go to Ralph's and spend $4 and support the business. Not sure what's happing at this location. I wasn't offered my money back or anything. They didn't care. Sad.

Josephine D.

Yelp
My first time, had friend pick up meal for us. Ordered fried pickles and the BLT w/ avocado. My complaint is about the fried pickle order. Coat 4.99 got 10 pieces, 5 of the 10 were whole pieces, the rest were tiny pieces. I work hard for my money, this is a rip off! Let's do the math...$4.99 / 7 pieces = $00.71 each Rip Off!!!
google avatar

Cheyenne L.

Yelp
Everyone here is so nice and polite! Love the vegan burger, definitely give it try. Every time I come here I am instantly greeted and handled with kindness and great customer service!!
google avatar

Nima A.

Yelp
Best fast food burger buns in the game; they are so fluffy, soft and fresh. The fries were really good too, you can tell they use fresh oil. My only critique is the burger sauce was lacking flavor. Next time I'll sub the sauce for ketchup and mayo. The service was friendly and fast.
google avatar

Craig Y.

Yelp
Located off 190th St in Torrance. This little area recently opened with three eating places Chick Fil A, Panera and Shake Shack the parking is shared so it may fill up fast at peak hours they all have drive thrus as well. I can see why the drive thru backs up since they make the burgers fresh to order so it can take a little while. I have yet to dine inside that will be next time but the drive thru process was pretty smooth I advise you look at a menu previously before going thru cause the menu has a lot to choose from. Overall not a bad experience granted it was 11pm lol. I'll be back again.
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
Shake Shack in Torrance hits the spot, especially as a late-night option when everything else is closed. We got the double cheeseburger and spicy cheese fries. The burger was juicy and flavorful, classic Shake Shack quality. As for the fries, they honestly don't need the cheese or the spice. The fries on their own are already really good. The "spicy" part just comes from a sprinkle of Cajun seasoning, which feels like a bit of a gimmick to charge a little extra. It's not bad, but definitely not necessary. Overall, still a solid choice. Shake Shack rarely disappoints.
google avatar

Julie H.

Yelp
Tried the viral Dubai chocolate pistachio shake. It was fun to try but pretty thin and pricey. Won't go back.

Yelp
We love the service here of the staff named Tt. She is very kind and she seems to love her job. I can see it by the way she serves the customer. She is attentive and makes us feel welcome in the place. She made sure that we have everything that we need and that we are enjoying the food that we ordered. I hope to encounter more server like her. She is serving people with smile and beyond expectations. Kudos Tt! You are an asset to Shake Shack. Keep it up. We appreciate you. The ambiance is also nice and the food is good. I love the Mango Lemonade.
google avatar

Veronica W.

Yelp
Hit the spot at 11 pm! Fries crispy. Slightly over cooked but they were free :) chicken bites good. Really great customer service.

scott m.

Yelp
Lots on tiny flies throughout the lobby dining area. Likely due to the fact that the staff don't clean the tables and floor enough. Pretty gross! I hope someone at Shake Shack reads this and works on removing knats and flies from the dining experience. If so, I may return.
google avatar

Ti V.

Yelp
Ordered avocado bacon burger but there was no bacon or avocado...The saddest looking burnt burger
google avatar

Jacqueline N.

Yelp
Supposed to be the avocado bacon burger. Quality seems to be okay. Avocado was hard. Wait was long. Bread was soft. Meat was dry. Not really worth the price

Jonathan Z.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Shake Shack. The burger had great flavor and I really enjoyed it overall. The only issue was that in a few bites, there were little pieces that were chewy or hard, which took away from the experience a bit. Other than that, everything was good. Otherwise it would've been 5 stars.
google avatar

Father F.

Yelp
You're charging over 20 bucks for a fast food burger, fries and drink and then you go with the tip shaming move. Pay your employees for Christ sake. Sick or it. I'll be going to In-n-Out for now on.
google avatar

Shecrise J.

Yelp
I enjoyed it, and I'm so happy this here now I enjoyed the flavor of the food, I'm happy it was well salted, the service was good. I didn't go inside, but I will next time with kids and check it out! So far so good!

Janet M.

Yelp
This was the worst $28.00 I have ever spent!!! The food was horrible, my Granddaughter ordered a Cookies and cream shake she couldn't even taste the Cookies ans cream. Why do they put my car on the recipient ??? The Worse Place I Ever !!! People are out here on a budgit.Trying to make ends meet! And I thought I would treat my Granddaughter to try something new!! I'm So really upset! And then they want you to add a star!! Why they don't deserve a Star!!

Satoru S.

Yelp
Thought we would stop in to have a Frozen Chocolate Custard. We ordered the small for $4.99, with $0.51 tax, for a total of $5.50. We thought it was kind of high-priced. When we saw the cup with two small portions, each smaller than a golf ball of custard, it was way overpriced. Seriously, we know food prices have increased, but holy S#!T!! The custard wasn't even frozen. When it was served to us, it was half-melted. I make it a habit never to return food, especially when kids are working. Do not want spit in our food. The flavor was good, what little there was to taste. We didn't eat any food. But looking at the menu, it seemed high. If the custard was any indication, the food is overpriced. This chain will go down with Five Guys, another bad value for the money!! Will we go back, probably NOT!
google avatar

Al N.

Yelp
Shake shack is good! Yes, it is kinda pricey for a burger but you can taste the quality of the ingredients. My coworker and I both ordered their truffle burger, cheese fries, and shakes, which came out to $60 with tip. I will have to say that's pricy for a lunch but it is a treat once in a while. We loved the burgers and shakes! The burger was the perfect size for us. We don't like those huge burgers which fall apart when you eat it or you need a life and fork to eat it. She even wanted to order a burger to go for dinner. I'll definitely come back if I am craving a burger. The service here was mixed. Some staff seemed to be very helpful while others just stood around and didn't offer help, even when I made eye contact...weird. Knocking off a star for value and mixed service.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
what happaend to shake shack. not what they used to be. food here is horrible, overpriced and employees definitely need more training with customer service! won't be going back!
google avatar

Joni B.

Yelp
Shake shack is a nice change to have in our area. It is a little pricey for a burger and fries (separate purchase--but gotta have fries with a burger!) Love the choices of food and drinks! Service is decent. There are kiosks that take your order, you take a number, then you wait and a server brings your food to where you're seated.

Yelp
Amazing SERVICE!! Friendly server was so helpful. She made sure our table was clean and brought out all of our food quickly . The food is good but over priced. Super small portions. The place was packed on a late Saturday night , but we had seating and food served quickly . The employees had good attitudes and that is what really makes the difference for me and my over all experience.
