The 7 Best Dim Sum Restaurants In Austin

"There was a time when you could head to Shanghai Chinese Restaurant in Highland and order off big metal carts roaming the dining room, packed full of dim sum specialties every weekend. The cart days are gone, but the full menu is still available a la carte. And we’ve found that you can recreate part of the experience by ordering three to four more items than you need—all at once—and then play a game of plate Tetris to fit everything onto your table. It’s also one of the more reasonably priced spots on this list, meaning it won’t be long until this is in your weekly rotation." - nicolai mccrary

Shanghai Chinese Restaurant Review - Highland - Austin - The Infatuation

"There aren’t too many spots with dim sum brunch in Austin—options include , , and the two locations of Wu Chow ( and )—but they all require making reservations way in advance anyway. Conveniently, Shanghai—the casual Chinese restaurant in Highland that’s been around since 2008—is walk-in-only on Sundays. So show up, elbow your way to the front desk, and put your name on the list. The wait is never too bad, and the handmade dumplings are more than worth the effort. Every other day of the week, Shanghai does take reservations. You can get dim sum all day, alongside peking duck, bbq pork, and other Chinese American classics. " - Raphael Brion

A pretty solid dim sum restaurant. I liked the variety and price wise, it was pretty decent. My personal favorites that I always get are the Black Bean Ribs, Har Gow (Shrimp Dumplings), Shu Mai, and Shrimp Rice Noodle Rolls. This place also does a really good Salt & Pepper Tofu. They managed to keep the inside soft, but the outside has a nice crisp. Will keep this in mind whenever we’re back in town.

I’m not a fan of having to order on the phone but it is what it is. Be careful tho, they say the tip is already included but when you go to check out you must enter in something in the tip section to be able to order. Food came out really quick but probably because we were the only ones in the restaurant. Dim sum was good. Peking duck was decent. The sauce for the Chinese broccoli was way too salty.

First time dining here for lunch and have only good things to say about it. Great attentive service and good tasting food. Forgot to take pictures before eating so these are after we were done. Portions were huge and this was what’s left remaining. The dim sum is really good too and I enjoyed the Chrysanthemum tea with rock sugar a lot. Highly recommended.

If you haven’t been here in a while, it’s worth trying again! We came here 2 years ago and were pretty unimpressed, but I read on a food forum that they’ve made improvements and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed! We came during a weekday lunch and everything was made fresh to order. Great that it was fresh, but it did take a while for all the dishes to come out. You can tell most items are made in-house, not frozen. Dare I say it was better than New Fortune?? The shumai and shrimp cilantro dumplings were our favorite and had generous servings of shrimp. Spare ribs and chicken feet were tasty as well. Service was good, although the place was fairly empty. I hope more people try it out bc we need more dim sum places here in the city! I can’t be driving 40 min for a dim sum fix.

Google
Not sure why they have only 3.9 star. It was my first time trying their Dim Sum and the food was great, my waitress was nice and active, also the atmosphere is good. I will definitely be back more often.

Went for a big lunch with a large group of co workers on a weekend. It wasn't super crowded but we were able to get a large table with a fun lazy susan. We ordered a bit of everything to try, the dim sum was pretty good and the duck was delicious. They also have soup dumplings ordered with vinegar too that I recommend.

I was seeng 3 Austin Film Festival movies at the Galaxy and decided to try this walkable restaurant. I was greeted with "sit anywhere and order from the app." OK... Then the waiter came with water. Then iced tea. Then, the order of mixed meat noodles and shumai. The noodle dish (combination lo mein) was delicious and WAY too much for one person! The shrimp are impressive in size. Vegetables are not overcooked and beef and chicken tender. Next, the shumai... generously filled with chopped and large pieces of shrimp with delicate steamed noodle. I was taken aback that there was no del I cate shumai sauce! I and the waiter who said there is no shumai sauce. He said I could make some from the condiments on the table. (See pic). When I said no thank you, he brought out the table soy plus some ginger. Better but not it! I took my time while waiting for my next film start. The waiter asked a couple of times if I wanted more water. (Might have been a good time to ask a customer if they wanted dessert?) So, now the order and pay online feeling... couldn't really tell if the "order and pay online 15% Tip/Service Fee included" is 30% added to the bill?? There was no real service except delivery. I will come back for dim sum on Saturdays with cart service! I have missed it since my Boston days. If this review was helpful, please give it a ❤️ or 🙏

Google
We have been to this location several times and were very pleased with this experience. We went on Saturday expecting long wait, but we got seated upon arrival. The atmosphere was cool with plenty of seatings. The tables are set with rooms for customers to move around without bumping into the other patrons. There are 2 options for ordering, using an App or directly with the server. We opted to order with the server, Kendra. Kendra was very personable and attentive. The prices are expected for Dim Sum and comparable with other restaurants serving Dim Sum. The Shrimp Shumai was moist. It was filled with ground and whole shrimp pieces. The skin was velvety and melted in the mouth. The same can be said for the Pork Shuma, Har Gow, Fried Shrimp Balls, and Fried Crab Claw. We appreciate they didn’t skimp on the filling and you can actually tasted all the ingredients they used. The Congee was smooth and nicely accented by slightly salty century egg and pieces of pork. Adding a little chili oil brings it to the next level. The Combination Lo Mein has a deep, umami flavor and again we were impressed with the big pieces of chicken, pork, and whole shrimp. The Baked Tart and Sesame balls were divine. The Sesame balls are filled with sweet, red bean paste. The outer skin is tender, with a slight chewy bite which is the sign of a well-made Sesame ball. The tarts were super delicious. The egg custard melts in the mouth and the crust was very flaky. We had an amazing experience at Shanghai Chinese Restaurant and looking forward to our next visit.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Dim sum was great! Best dim sum in Austin tbh. We went on a Sunday evening and everything came out fresh and quick. Definitely excited to come and bring our extended families.

Yelp
Our favorite dim sum place in Austin! If you haven't had the dim sum here... you are missing out! Theirs is the only place I can get authentic dim sum that is made fresh and so good! The chicken feet, pork shumai, pan fried leek shrimp dumplings, shrimp eggplant, and crispy shrimp balls are our favorites! The pork puff and bbq pork steak buns are usually our favorite too but the filling was lacking. The ratio was not balanced. Their new item salt and pepper tofu was super crispy but it was missing seasoning and a sauce to dip the tofu in. The steamed black bean pork is usually my favorite but there were chunks of fat and hardly any meat. We didn't see any black bean in the dish when usually there is. The shrimp eggplant was missing green onion and more sauce but it was still really delicious and came out hot. Shanghai has became a staple for our go to for dim sum! How to order: after seating, scan the QR code and place your order and pay. Every tab automatically add 15% tip but you can add more if you wish. Service is fast and food always comes out fresh and hot! Shoutout to our waitress Amber! She was phenomenal and was friendly and made us felt special. Thank you for providing the best service and being so attentive while running multiple tables. She deserves a raise! Do I recommend this place? YES! Don't walk... RUN to go grab you some dim sum here! Best in town and highly recommended! Don't be worried about the outside, the dim sum will blow you away!

Yelp
I was hoping the Yelp reviews were because people don't appreciate authentic dim sum. I have had my fair share and this was not a place I would return to. Nothing was exceptional enough to have more than one piece but the pork ribs and the beef ribs were just plain bad. All bone and on the pork it was all chewy fat. No meat. On the beef it was just not tasty and it was chewy. I am quite disappointed. Attached is a photo of what we ordered to go. We ate 2 mins away so that didn't affect the integrity of the food. Yelp 2 stars = I've had better. I can't give this meal more stars.

Yelp
After eating here, I expected to see really high reviews for this restaurant and am surprised to see otherwise! The soup dumplings are seriously some of the best I have ever had, without exaggeration. We also had an order of the pan fried leek dumplings and those were also wonderful. Don't let the exterior of the building fool you, the inside was very nice, lots of wood and very clean, music playing quietly. There is a window to see into the kitchen and everything is made to order. The service was great as well, the waitress was very kind and attentive. I overheard the woman eating at the table next to us mention having a food allergy, and the chef personally came out to discuss with her so that he could properly make her a delicious and well received meal.

Yelp
I have been ordering here quite a few times. What brought me back again and again was the beef chow fun. I am a super fan of hor fun which is easily to be found in Hong-Kong and Singapore where I spent 10 years living there. I just miss the taste and the fragrance. The beef hor fun in Shanghai Restaurant is the best I can find since I relocated to the States so far. Not greasy, full of fragrance, beef is tender and the hor fun is not soggy even several hours away. Decent portion with the pricing. I didn't see any review of this dish, which is the main reason I review here. More ppl should try this and appreciate such a hidden gem. BBQ Pastry is another favorite. A delightful surprise! The pastry was golden and flaky, and inside, the pork filling was savory, and well-seasoned. the flavor was comforting and rich. I definitely will be back.

Yelp
My husband is a big fan of dim sum and I had to plan to get some for him this weekend for his birthday. Shanghai serves dim sum all day -- at least on a Saturday. The restaurant is quite large and spacious. As others have said - service is non existent and they automatically charge 15% service. You order via the QR code and someone brings the food out. Apart from that, there is no human interaction. I was surprised that they did have a handful of vegetarian items on the menu. But we mainly went for the shumai and har gow.

Yelp
Dim sum in Austin!! It's not your traditional cart service, however you can order on the app! When I went they were pretty understaffed so our service was just okay, you do have to try to flag down someone if you need anything. The table in front of me and one person in my party had a service mishap on the app which led to longer wait than usual for food. In terms of food I thought everything was delicious. The chicken feet was amazingggg I'm craving it just thinking about it. I wish they had more selections but I was satisfied either way! Plates ranged from $7-10. Tip- if you need something or it's taking a long time flag down someone vs waiting for someone to check on you

Yelp
This has been our go to which is 17 miles for us to get our dim sum urge. We prefer carts to pick and pace as we go but very hard to find such dim sum places these days since Covid! So here we are. In the past, service has always been good, however the friendliness and communication of waitstaff was always a challenge. In addition to ordering through the toastapp however this last visit was much smoother and waitstaff was on par. Friendly, attentive and we able to get what we asked for without the language barrier and attitude. The food came out within 5-10 minutes after we ordered. It was piping hot, fresh and delicious. The only disappointment is that the duck did not come as a smaller dim sum portion, you have to order 1/2 duck for $30-$32. There were no curry calamari or crispy taro that I am a big fan of. But it didn't break us. We left satisfied. I don't care where you go to dine. How you treat your customers makes a big difference. It makes a much more pleasant dining experience. Thank you for making us feel like our business mattered and worth our drive from northwest Austin to central Texas. We will be back.

Yelp
My favorite place to grab dim sum in Austin. I love the homey feel when you walk in. The owner is always friendly and always asks about my family (we come often and in a very large group). Food always comes out fresh and fast. They don't push carts like your typical dim sum but easy to order a la carte via phone (there is a service fee included) I love the open window to the kitchen, especially on the weekends when they have someone there making dumplings.

nora

Yelp
The dumplings were scrumptious. The texture was really nice and so was the shrimp texture when chewing. We had the beef rice noodles as well, texture was good too. Would come again. Food came in fast, ordering was easy as we just had to pay thru a site. They were very clear about what had pork and what didn't on the menu too, which is different than most usual restaurants

Yelp
I told now Teenage Rooster and the GF they would be having their first Dim Sum experience on a recent weekend. Still sad my favorite DS closed during covid; heard recently it's coming back. So, this was the test to see if they would like/understand what Dim Sum is. Well, there were lots of frowns. I didn't order anything risque like chicken feet! Here's the list for review purposes. Soup Dumplings, Egg Drop Soup, Wonton Soup, Shrimp Dumplings, Shrimp Rice Noodle, Pork BBQ Steamed Buns, and Chicken Egg Rolls. The look in their eyes; WTF did you bring us to eat? OMG, they didn't get it. Here's my seasoned take on the experience. You have to order on Toast so I ordered twice. Each transaction with a 15% service charge. Where is my dedicated server? Random peeps helped us. And those random peeps didn't do a very good job. Tea glasses weren't refilled in a timely manner. No frills dining like plastic table cloths. I'm shocked I got a metal fork! I reminded myself this was the former Mason Jar back in the day. Foodwise? Soup Dumplings were nice; paired well with my choice of vinegar sauce. Egg Drop Soup had an acceptable color and flavor. Corn was actually crunchy which sometimes get lost in a buffet setting. She didn't like the Wonton Soup because it had a shrimp component. I found it acceptable fare. The Pork Buns arrived and they looked at me like I was trying to get them to eat a meteorite. It's bread and meat people; perhaps a little too sweet on the BBQ sauce. It's my opinion they should have left a cauldron of sauce for the Shrimp Rice Noodles as it paired with every dish. Chicken Eggrolls seemed foodservice but could have been made in house. Pork Shumai was the best bites paired with the noodle sauce. Better than ordinary table Soy sauce. Food acceptable but charging a service fee for sub par service ends up in a not so good 2 stars. And the also asked for tip!

Yelp
This place actually exceeded my expectations. I came here on a Friday night and it was quick and easy to get seated. We could sit anywhere and order using the QR code provided at the table. Chicken feet were great. Also loved the turnip cake and the pork rice noodle roll. The sweet soy sauce really brought out more flavor to the pork. Didn't like the soup dumplings so much, was a bit bland and nothing special but everything else was very good! Our server was very sweet and attentive although she was working all by herself on a Friday night. Low-key and chill vibe, nothing fancy. Decent prices.

Yelp
Dim sum has been an annual Christmas and occasional birthday tradition for my family for the 17 years we have lived in Austin and Shanghai is our current go to place. We;d been to Shanghai during a few of the early years of our tradition when I worked nearby but we'd stopped coming in favor of a location closer to our home. We rediscovered Shanghai last summer when the dim sum restaurant closer to our home closed down. On our visit in the summer of 2023 we were a bit sad to find they no longer brought carts around during dim sum, we'd hoped they might bring them back for Christmas but both times ordering was all done through an app. As we had a large group both times and they prefer orders all be placed by one person, it made coordinating things a bit more complicated but we worked with it and were delighted to get everything we wanted all served fresh and hot and timely. The one downside was that we didn't remember everything we ordered or recognize what was what and when we asked back in June if they could tell us what was in each dumpling we were told no, lol. We sorted it out but as we had a mix of ominvores and vegetarians it was a bit annoying. When we went for Christmas this year we were at least prepared and paid closer attention to what the things we ordered looked like so we didn't have to depend on the staff to help. The restaurant is clean and large and open. They don't take reservations for dim sum on the weekends but when we went in June we had no problem getting a nice large table without a wait. We lucked out that Christmas was on a weekday and their website allowed for reservations although they weren't as busy as expected when we went bright and early at 10 am so we'd have been gotten a table easily even without it. Although I do wish they would bring the carts back, this is likely to remain our go to dim sum place and we have been very pleased with the food and service.

Yelp
Underrated!!! An old dim sum strong hold, this place has gotten a lot better since COVID. The service is great, a common complaint in past reviews. Some of the best combo fried rice I've ever had - soooo much flavor and sooo much meat! We almost can't go anywhere else for fried rice, luckily this is in the neighborhood. A little pricey unless you go with a big group and share, so I'd recommend that. Lots of leftovers if you go as a couple or one person. I highly recommend the pan fried pork dumplings, the leek shrimp dumplings, flat rice noodles with beef, and shumai. Oh, and the green beans? HUGE quantity, fantastic flavor.
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
The dim sum is great-especially pork siu mai, beef cheong fun. Very fresh, and the wrapping looks fantastic! However, the service was not very good. You can order by scanning the QR code on the table, but when the dim sum arrived, we didn't have any plates or utensils. It is not easy to call a server over to refill tea. 15% tip is already included and when you order, you are billed right away. Not a traditional dim sum place that I'm used to-no carts and we didn't have a Lazy Susan table. Still an enjoyable place to eat good food at a leisurely pace.

Moises J.

Yelp
We went about an hour before closing and dined in. We ordered a little bit of everything. The food was great. The meats we ordered were very well seasoned and everything had great flavor. We will definitely be going back. I do recommend dinning in and enjoying the food while it's piping hot and fresh out because although the food still a had good taste while I was snacking on my drive home down 35, it was just 1000 times better piping hot
google avatar

Ed S.

Yelp
Was a bit concerned that I was the only one here at 5:45. Granted a second party came in shortly after but empty on a Thursday night. A bit sterile - from the plastic tablecloths to the ordering. Ordered shrimp dim sum. It was good but not quite great. Then on to the soup dumplings. Disappointing. I've had them a few places in Dallas and New Jersey so I do know how good they can be...these fell short. Bathroom with hole in ceiling not great. Looks like the place needs some TLC

Yelp
My friend and I stopped in here after going to a film at the Galaxy Theater. First walking in was off. There was a book to sign in but no person to seat us. I put our names down and time along with previous names. The restaurant was sparsely occupied. Finally a woman came up and just said come. So we followed her to a table and she said click here for menu and walked off. We were able to order and pay online and a 15% tip was added with an option to add 5,10 15 and 20% more. This was even before we knew who I server was. Apparently they charge 10$ to make a reservation. No option to leave it at 15%, the preassigned percentage. So shortly after ordering, a man appeared and dropped off my soup. It was lukewarm and tasted like beef with the egg texture. So that was disappointing. Asking to send it back seemed as though it wasn't an option since nobody asked how our food was or even spoke to us. Then a woman came up and brought the tea and walked away with no words. Then a bit later same man brought our entrees, setting them down on the opposite side of table and didn't ask who ordered what. So we reached across the table to get our appropriate food. It was bland and on the same level as a fast food restaurant but with just under 20$ per entree. Nobody ever came back to ask about refills or how our food was or anything. We wanted more water at least and nobody ever came back. I got up to get a take away container and finally a woman who was eating at a table got up and got the containers. Our whole experience there was less than stellar. It was an odd experience all around.

Yelp
This a self ordering restaurant, once you are seated you just scan their QR code at the table to order. Their system does require for you to pay in advance in order to order with a 15% service fee. Food came out pretty quick and there is a sever that brings you plates and refills your drink. Their dim sum are large and tasted good. I enjoyed my food.
google avatar

Carrie M.

Yelp
This is a solid but overpriced dimsum restaurant in Austin. My family is used to ordering dimsum off a menu, and we did not like the QR code ordering system as it is very difficult for a whole family to use one small phone screen to order food. Paying in advance in a sit-down restaurant is very strange, especially for a Chinese restaurant. When I asked a server if they could confirm that my order went through, they weren't sure how to check. Otherwise, the food was good! It was unexpectedly expensive since the restaurant doesn't appear to be upscale.
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
Honestly best dim sum in Austin without paying an arm and a leg. You scan the qr code to order and pay online. They bring out the food whatever is ready first. Fried stuff usually takes the longest. I recommend coming with a group of at least 4 so you can try a variety of items. DIM SUM is family style sharing where you order a bunch and everyone shares.
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
My wife and I hadn't had dim sum in a while and tried Shanghai Restaurant for the first time today. Everything was good. We had steamed bbq pork buns, steamed custard buns, sesame balls, shrimp shumai, baked egg tarts, pork ribs, shrimp stuffed eggplant (my favorite, very good), bbq pork rice noodle rolls, congee, sticky rice with chicken, zhaliang/fried two, and oolong tea. Portions/sizes were good to generous, everything was fresh. The service was good. Absolutely worth a try if you're in the mood for dim sum.
google avatar

Julia D.

Yelp
Really easy to order and the food is quite good. I do have a shrimp allergy and something came with shrimp but it hadn't said it in the menu, not a huge deal but if you have allergies then make sure to check!
google avatar

Deborah L.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday evening, which I'm told is the best time to go as it can be very packed during weekend lunch. My FIL is from Shanghai and says this is the best place for dim sum in Austin. The egg tarts, sesame balls, shrimp dumplings, and turnip cake are just a few star dishes if you're looking for dim sum. Eat any savory dim sum with their house made chili sauce and it elevates it even more. No soy sauce needed! My favorite dish to share was the beef and broccoli - which reminded me of Vietnamese shaken beef by the way it was cut. It was juicy and easy to chew that my toddler loved it and kept asking for more! I also LOVED the fried garlic shrimp. It was battered nicely and had good salty flavor. The Cantonese style chicken and roasted duck are just as good. This was the best Chinese food I've had in awhile!
google avatar

Ahren I.

Yelp
My Mum and I go to Shanghai Restaurant for the Dim Sum on the regular. You can also enjoy any of it's wonderful selection of cantonese style noodle plates. Mr. Ho is a passionate Asian chef to cuisine and his plates do all the talking for him. I recommend and welcome everyone to come try this amazing food. Download the Toast app to get points and order ahead for an easy, quick and enjoyable dining experience.

Yelp
I hate leaving negative reviews but... Shanghai used to be a solid four but now I'm having a hard time justifying even the two stars. TLDR; $150 for three people to eat mediocre dim sum. Someone help open something new in Austin, please! RIP New Fortune Things are weird "post Covid," aren't they? Service is non-existant, food quality is meh. Food ordering through toast isn't great. If I wanted to get takeout, I would have gotten take out. First, Food Quality: Almost everything was not as hot as it should have been. One item was actually cold. The only thing that came out hot-hot was the deep fried shrimp balls. Everything tasted okay but items not coming out hot (steamer baskets, hello!) poured cold water on pretty much everything. Prices -- Everything was crazy expensive. Saying that "everything has gone up in price" doesn't justify what they're charging for Dim Sum plates. I could believe the prices if they were on the gourmet side of things in Houston with a class c celebrity chef, but they're not. Also a 15% tip is mandated and then an additional 15% is suggested. There is literally no service past food being plunked down and don't try to get anyone's attention to ask for waters or something that's off menu (like napkins) Food quantity: (maybe see prices) $6 for two sesame balls? $13 for 4 chicken gyoza? $13 for any of the pan fried items? Someone at another table speculated loudly that because they don't have staff anymore, they price anything that takes more effort than putting frozen/cold items in a steamer basket at a 100% premium. The chili crisp was oddly Szechuan style which was unexpected. Not horrible but also not traditional. All in all a very below-average experience.

Yelp
service at Shanghai is a complete kluster-disaster. ordering via the app is mega sub-par, as is paying as you go. Our order took over an hour and came out one dish at a time over about 30 min, when askd for a coke a 'server' said 'go to app' as she flew by. No management, no system, no fun and when we asked bout our order flustered servers were defensive, not helpful. One said 'look see how busy we are, we are serving food' Dim Sum is very expensive. food was good, not great, but NOT coming back. Owners need to change their system

Yelp
The search for good dim sum in Austin continues... And this is place is not it. We were a party of 3 on a Saturday and the place was pretty full but we didn't have to wait long for a table or for food. We ordered 13 dishes and paid $125 including tip. The food was not bad but also not great. Definitely could taste the lack of quality in ingredients. In the end, if you're craving dim sum this place *might* satisfy you, but you're probably better off paying slightly more/waiting for a table at Lin, which is still not the best but at least higher quality.

Yelp
This is my favorite dim sum in Austin. I've been here several times and will continue to come back because the food is always delicious. The restaurant isn't overly decorated but it cleans and the servers are usually friendly. You order from your phone so the service to get other things kind of varies but it's never too bad.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch touring around Austin since I'll be moving here towards the end of the month from Houston. So happy to say I have a new go to Chinese spot

Sandra D.

Yelp
Visited for the first time and was impressed at how delicious the dim sum was. The green beans were amazing, easily some of the best I've ever had. The egg drop soup and shrimp rice noodle were fantastic as well, so so flavorful. The restaurant was very spacious and definitely fits large parties. Will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Ate here a few times but not impressed. Most recent visit the salt and pepper shrimp was inedible, just WAY over salted. Their Dim Sun is average, and takes forever to arrive, and all ordering is done on an app which sucks. No carts. Spotty table service. And EXPENSIVE!! There were 5 of us and the bill was about $200. Holy cow! We miss New Fortune! Austin needs and deserves a good Dim Sum joint. I can't believe this is one of the only options. If you NEED dim sum, Shanghai will do, but just barely.

Yelp
Genuinely idk why this place has such low reviews. I think people complain about the service fee but bruh they put it on the lil plaque u scan so idk why it's coming as a surprise?? The food is good, service can be lacking (but who cares?), and there is usually never a wait time. Also it's not that expensive for dim sum .-. I see lots of people comparing to houston prices but honestly i found the prices to be pretty on par. Overall solid dim sum place and i have no complaints

Yelp
2:15 on a Thursday, there were two parties of two finishing up when we arrived. After that the restaurant was empty except for us. First time having dim sum here, so ordered several classics to get a sense of the place. Har gow, pork shumai, xiao long bao (soup dumpling), chicken feet, baked egg custard. They didn't have the egg custard and offered us steamed custard bao instead. The food was just OK. Nothing terrible, nothing amazing. Didn't look or taste completely fresh. The xiao long bao was nicely soupy, but the meatball inside tasted odd with a weird herb/seasoning I don't usually taste. Chicken feet portion was extremely small. Bao dough to custard ratio was too high. As many other reviewers have noted, the prices seem high for what you get, but I understand that's just part of the new post-Covid reality. Our server/host was very nice and efficient. Three big minuses: the noise, the restroom smell, and the included gratuity. Noise: The kitchen is very loud with lots of shouting, and they keep the doors open directly to the dining room. It didn't take help that we were seated directly in front of those doors (in an almost empty restaurant). Also, the server/host's cell phone at the front desk was on and loudly ringing / text message alerting regularly throughout our meal. Restrooms: Just stinky. The whole restroom area really. Gratuity: They automatically added 15% gratuity to the check for a party of two. We would have tipped at least that much anyway, but I think that's tacky. So total was $43 for two people to eat a very small, underwhelming meal. We both left still hungry. Won't be returning.

Yelp
I know I can't complain as this is one of the couple of Dim sum places left in the area and because of Covid, the experience will be different. There isn't really any interaction with the servers at all because you order from your phone. They just bring you what you order and no one really came by and ask if we needed anything, you need to wave them down yourself. Dim sum is not bad but the Cheung Fun was rather disappointing. The rice noodle didn't have the right texture as it seems a bit mush to me. The Shrimp Cheung Fun, the shrimp had no seasoning whatsoever and a bit over cooked. I enjoyed the Pork and Shrimp Shumai and the spareribs. It is pricier, almost $7 per Dim Sum dish, we ordered 5 and the total with tip was almost $60, so yes it will be pricey to eat decent Dim Sum. I will be back to try other menu and update review then. 3 stars~

Yelp
They warn that they're short of staff but since it's a dim sum concept, wait time isn't really an issue once you're seated. You may have to wait to get a table. All the food was good. I especially liked the jasmine tea and the texture of the mixed puff with pork. One weird thing was my ice water seemed to be flavored, but neither of the other two people in my party seemed to notice this

Yelp
The first and last time I came here was over ten years ago. Even to this day, it is the only traditional dim sum place in Austin. The quality is just kind of OK... everything was edible but almost everything was overly salty. The prices are actually kind of comparable to Wu Chow and Wu Chow is much, much better. They variety here is good though! All of the standards are here. But unfortunately they're all just too salty.

Yelp
So good to finally find a good dim sum restaurant out here. Coming from la there is a lot and they are all amazing So finding this place was such a treat it tasted like back home A bit pricy compared to la but the taste exceeds a lot of places Tea is not included tht was different for us But taste is amazing definitely food made with love As well as nice portion size ! Parking : there is plenty Inside: lots of seating !! It is a QR code for the menus and you pay as soon as u order The host doesn't really do much except seat u n bring ur food Everything is done though the QR There is also no traditional carts because of Covid Protocol but u can still see them making dim sum in the window which is a really cool touch Mr He is a sweetheart and u can tell he's proud of this place . We definitely will be back

Yelp
I only wish I had grown up eating dim sum as I wasn't introduced to it until living in Los Angeles in my 20's. I have eaten dim sum at every restaurant that offers it, in Austin, and this is my favorite. I LOVE that I can have it made to order every day, except when the restaurant is closed Tuesdays. My personal favorites are the cheung fun, har gow, shumai and of course the sweet treat of pork bao; I could eat them everyday! I love the owners, the staff and the picture window into the kitchen allowing people to watch the labor of love that goes into each and every delectable bite. It's a special occassions place for us AND when my husband and I can sneak away from the kids and stuff ourselves! As far as ambiance I enjoy the clean and minimalist decor with the plastic table cloth that says "get to eating and enjoy, don't worry about making a mess"! I go for the GREAT food and it delivers every time

Yelp
Went here Saturday morning for their dim sum. You order on your phone through a qr code, so we barely talked to any staff. Everything was pretty good, only thing I would pass on would be the baked bbq pork buns, as they had a flakey pastry surrounding the pork which wasn't as good as just the baked roll. Overall pretty good food and average prices.

Yelp
This is the first dimsum I've tried in Austin. Got there right at opening and there were people but was seated right away. Not too crowded, no reservation needed. We had to order and pay first on our phone. Food came out very quickly after ordering. We got sesame balls, Chinese broccoli, steamed egg custard buns, bbq pork buns, shrimp har gow, and my favorite shrimp rice roll. Leftovers were good the next day, would come back.

Yelp
First time I came the food was decent but I wasn't aware that they included tip in their total but that was a year or two ago from today. I decided to come again today because I was craving dimsum. Unfortunately the shu mai was undercooked and that was really off putting. I put it in my mouth before noticing but I realized the meat was pink and mushy. Otherwise the food is ok but I will not be coming back. Thankfully the waitress was apologetic and we didn't make a huge scene but the pork being undercooked is completely unacceptable.

Yelp
ample parking. not busy at 6:45, but sign says to sign in and they will call your name only three times once your table is ready, so it must get very busy. staff is very welcoming and extremely friendly---I see others have had a differwnt experience but Mr. Ho was friendly and the young lady who helped me was charming. An open window in to kitchen show team prepping and cooking, looks clean, and staff are friendly with each other. Dining room experience feels a little like assisted living decor. Mint green walls, tables covered in disposable plastic table clothes, jazzy muzak being piped in. Prices seem a little on the high side. but I can see all dim sum is made by hand, so I'm okay with that. 15% service charge added to all orders -- eat in or take out. I was a little taken aback to get that much charged on take out, to be honest. I'm hoping that means staff get a living wage and share in the tips. Last kookie thing. I ordered Baked BBQ Bun expecting a bao. Nope, I got phyllo rectangles stuffed with Char sui. It was good but not what I was expecting. Now, I've said a lot (I was typing while waiting for my food) and you are probably thinking I'm going to leave a bad review. Nope! I ordered hargow, pork suimai, fried pork dumplings (pot stickers), turnip cakes, sesame balls and baked bbq "bun." All of it was well made and tasty...traditional dim sum. Nothing I would rave about but I would happily go back and take my family for a dim sum lunch.

Yelp
Great place for Dim Sum! You have to order and pay through the QR code on the table. I thought it was pretty efficient. The food came out quick and was delicious. Will definitely be back

Yelp
I don't know why there are any reviews other than 5 stars. If you attempt to talk to the people who work at the restaurant they are extremely friendly and welcoming. The food is beyond superb and all the dim sum is filled with flavor and love. Support this restaurant and eat up!!

Yelp
Great food! Think this is the last traditional Dim Sum location in Austin. The food is amazing, fresh, and made when you order. I'm a huge Dim Sum fan, having had it in many locations throughout the US. This place definitely does not disappoint. The only downfall I'd say about this restaurant is it's a bit pricier (About $2 more per dim sum dish than the average price). They also use an ordering app, which has a service charge. But other than that, great restaurant!

Yelp
The food ain't bad at all! In fact, it may be the best dim sum in ATX. What was interesting tho, was the service. The waitress asked my wife to move to another seat to make it easier for her (the waitress) to put dishes on the table...but hey...that was a round table that seats 6 and we only had 4 people. There was plenty of space for the waitress to do her job....it was a questionable ask. Also, she asked for us to tip her in cash while she stood right next to us looking into our wallets...I had to ask her to give us some space...we all find it to be rude and awkward

Yelp
4 stars for the fact they make their dumplings in house so it's super fresh (they have a open window where you can watch them hand make the harcow) 3 stars because majority of the dim sum comes out warm/lukewarm vs steaming hot so recommend ordering a few dishes at at time vs a ton of dim sum at once since food comes out pretty quick Overall 3.5 stars, not the best dim sum ever but better than most in town
