Shanghai Fried Siopao

As part of my Binondo food crawl, I bought fried siopao from the viral The Original Shanghai Fried Siopao. You can easily find their shop on Google Maps so you won’t get lost. There is almost always a line, but it moves quickly. The siopao has a soft bun and a meaty, flavorful filling that pairs perfectly with hot beef noodles. It is definitely worth the 'pila'!"

if you only have a few peso coins left in your pocket before you fly home from Manila, stop here for a most excellent pan-fried siopao, doesnt even need extra sauce because the filling is moist and juicy, and needs the sweet bite of the bread enveloping it. Highly worth it. I passed by here several times in Binondo and there was a line of locals and travelers, which tells you something!

Tried Ling Nam’s Fried Siopao (Asado) and wow — solid sarap! I usually order sa katabi na famous store who offered fried siopao. Soft and flavorful on the inside. If you prefer something more classic, they also have it steamed, so you can choose depending on your mood. I also ordered their dumplings, and they did not disappoint — juicy, tasty, and perfect with their dipping sauce. Plus points that they offer Buko Juice in-store — super refreshing and a great match sa hot snacks! Another thing I love: pwede ka rin mag-order ng ready-to-cook items, perfect kung gusto mo i-stock sa bahay or enjoy Ling Nam cravings anytime. Overall, sulit, satisfying, and definitely worth trying!

Its just a take out counter. Fast and easy transaction. we tried their famous fried siopao for 35 pesos each. at first impression I said it was small but when i tried it, I was blown because it tasted good. Value for money. its not literally friend. Still steamed bun but the bottom was toasted in a pan. theyve already packed the siopao in Case where there is a long line and so that customers buying can go fast. there was no line when we purchased because it was early in the morning. they also have packed dumplings that you can take out

Bottomfried only. ♨️ The shop offers alot more snacks and we got the following below for your reference (prices were not listed since it varies depending on the demand): ♨️ Fried Siopao: Had high hopes for this bun since i love crunchness on my food but to my surprise, the bao is only fried on the bottom. Then the filling is just like your typical siopao with ground pork, onions, spices and some peppers. ♨️ Mooncake: We got the diced one and it tastes good. Kinda tastes like the mongo hopia but its definitely a must-try in your Binondo trip ♨️ Prepped Dumpling: Another one that I had a high hopes for because I was expecting it to be like Angkong (USTe dimsum place) type of dumpling but its soggy and the filling was mixed vegetables and spices. Probably better steamed than fried tho. Storage for the dumpling is around 2 weeks. Queue looks long but the service was fast and staff were able to cater the customers very well.

I mean how can you do better than 35 pesos for a freshly fried piece of meat and dough! I met some Australians that recommended I stop here and I'm glad I did. Just get 1 or 2 to try this authentic street food.

Late Post: Continuing the late reviews form my Manila trip. Was brought here by the team. Was super exited to visit Manilas Chinatown in Binondo. It can def be a foodie spot. Shanghai Fried Siapos are def a IYKYK place. Super low key, not fluff just a huge like to get some delicious dumplings. What separates them from the rest besides being delicious, they pan fry to give it a little bit of consistency with synergy deliciousness. A must try spit for touring foodies.

Street food takeout only . Always a crowd at lunch. Not much ambiance on crowded street.

Most of the time, the nondescript and the unremarkable façade of a restaurant could be deceiving. In the case of Shanghai Fried Siopao, the exterior of this truly veritable Ongpin institution is nothing but a dingy sign and a grimy display case filled to the brim with rice cakes, siopao and plates of kikiam - not at all indicative of the deligt of sampling the store's specialty fried siopao -pork and vegetable filled soft buns - that are exploding with flavor. The shop seems to be always abuzz with activity, and the workers in the open kitchen are always seen maneuvering around the giant steamers, transferring baskets of steamed dumplings and siopao onto cooling and packing racks. The smell is amazing, and it could very well make your tummy rumble in anticipation. The famed fried siopao only costs P18 a pop, not bad for a nicely done and not so bready dough encasing a dense and flavorful pork filling that is strongly laced with distinct Chinese seasonings. In a neighborhood where practically every food store or restaurant serves their own version of siopao, the store attracts a steady following because of its unique "fried" siopao recipe. Well , they don't exactly deep fry the entire thing, but they pan-fry the bottom of the siopao, giving it a somewhat crunchy texture and a bit of a bite. I guess the entire siopao will fall apart without the crunchy bottom. This delicacy is so scrumptious, one or two just wouldn't do. However, you can enjoy a steaming hot siopao straight from the pans, or you could take home an entire pack. You can also buy other Chinese delicacies such as leaf-wrapped machang pockets, and kikiam or pork sausage wrapped in a bean curd membrane.

The siopao or mantou bread filled with pork is a favorite snack of many filipinos. Highly influenced by Chinese we have grown accustomed to this delicacy. Surely, to get your siopao fix, a visit to binondo, will curb that. Binondo is a food haven of all things chinese. Almost every restaurant at binondo offers their unique variation of the beloved siopao, but I highly suggest for you to find shanghai fried siopao. Not easily seen but it's worth the hunt. Fried siopao is one of the popular variations of a pork bun/mantou bread filled with pork in sauce steamed until pillowy soft, with its underside fried for that additional flavor profile. The line may get pretty long for the shop but it will be all worth it when you bite into the blissful thing called the fried siopao.

I love my siopao filled to the brim and absolutely bursting with flavor. I love them big and the size of my head. So when I went to the Shangai Fried Siopao stall (not really much of a restaurant when you can't sit anywhere to enjoy your siopao) I cant help but be taken aback at the size of this siopao. It neatly fits in the palm of my hand, and I can swallow it in one bite. Despite it's size, Shanghai Fried's siopao is flavorful and yummy, a steal at 18 pesos. Although I also expected more frying. Or maybe I just arrived late that day, because they were no longer freshly made? The normally hot, slightly crunchy bottom is already chewy. Though apart from their siopao, they also sell a wide variety of things like hopia, kikiam and siomai-- I'm quite sure that they're from other, smaller establishments, though!

Despite it's hole in the wall ambiance, Shanghai Fried Siopao is still something that Filipinos patronize non-stop. For only Php 18 per piece, the famed Fried Siopao has been a staple snack of the people from the area. My boyfriend who used to study in UBelt would usually drop by at Shanghai Fried Siopao to grab some grub and enjoy a hefty meal for a cheap price. What made their siopaos special is, undeniably, their flavorful pork stuffing, paired with a delectable sauce that perfectly complements the sweet and salty flavor of the inside.
