Shanghai No. 1 Seafood Village Review - San Gabriel - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Shanghai No. 1 Seafood is on the fancier side - prices are higher and the whole place looks and feels like an upscale Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. While the space is quirky (yes, that’s red velvet covering the walls), the menu is filled with crowd-pleasers and everything is served family-style, making it ideal for big groups." - Brant Cox

22 Romantic LA Restaurants Doing Takeout & Delivery

"Shanghai No. 1 Seafood Village is a popular Chinese restaurant in San Gabriel, and though prices are a bit higher than what you’d find elsewhere in the neighborhood, the food is so good you don’t care. The menu is massive, so we recommend coming in with a tight game plan of ordering the Shanghai pork dumplings, any of their fried rice options, and braised pork in brown sauce. That said, if something else also catches your eye, it’s probably going to be good, too. Available for both takeout and delivery." - brant cox

Google
Food is excellent here at Shanghai No1 Restaurant! From morning Dim Sum dishes to authentic Shanghai style meats and seafood. Atmosphere and ambiance is wonderful. However, service is mediocre at best! Wait time is a bit long too! Still, overall, it was an enjoyable dinning experience! You just cannot be in a hurry....

Google
It's hard to find authentic Shanghai cuisine in the Los Angeles area, but after tasting it today, I found there is no difference with what I had in Shanghai. In fact, the quality of the ingredients might even better that of Shanghai, making the flavors even more delicious. I also really like the decor here and the service staff, which all strongly reflect the essence of Shanghai.-腔调!

Google
The food here is absolutely delicious!!! We celebrated our friends’ baby’s birthday in a private room and it was fantastic. From the cold appetizers to the main entrees and everything in between, plus the hot chrysanthemum tea, everything was great, and also 100% approved by a Shanghainese friend. I would recommend and come back.

Google
I came here for the weekday special—all small, medium, and large dimsum are $4.99 each. I honestly was surprised by the quality of the food and can say this is some of the best dim sum I’ve had in the 626. I really enjoyed the egg tarts and the black pepper ribs. There’s a ton of seating inside the restaurant. The outside might look a little janky but the food is good. It’s located on the second floor, in the same plaza as boiling point! Service was good too.

Google
Fancy dining room, but the food was the star! Very tasty dimsum staples (siu mai, har gow, phoenix claws). Well made and steamed perfectly. The pan fried pork buns were also quite good. Where they fell short was the lack of sufficient flavor in their Singapore Rice Noodle. It lacked the right color and "wok hei" and peppers needed to make it stellar. Good. But not great. Tea was refilled often and parking, as usual was abysmal.

Angel Pan

Google
The most authentic Shanghainese food you are going to get in the Los Angeles area. I strongly suggest their braised fish, stir fry eels, pork belly, and white woodear and taro dessert. The atmosphere is representative of the authentic cuisine, great for booking out for private parties and group dinners.

Haven’t been here for ages, guess nothing much changed. The service still excellent. And food still considered good and I am just surprised they haven’t raise the price much. The decorations may need a bit of renewal. Overall, is a good place to have some decent Chinese food.

Google
I wouldn’t say this is the #1 Shanghai restaurant in LA despite of its name, but there are some dishes that are worth trying: Shanghai smoked fish is crispy and tender at the same time with the right amount of sweetness and sourness; pickled mustard and cuttlefish brought back childhood memories; signature rice soup is a great new creation of an old tradition; pickled mustard shredded pork noddle is just how I remembered it. The only dish we didn’t like is the braised pork belly - feels stale, not tender, many of my friends make better version than this: a bit disappointed at this signature dish on the very first page of the menu. High caliber service! Many party rooms with various sizes for private gathering.

Yelp
Probably one of my go to places to get dim sum and some higher end Shanghai food! The dim sum is good! Probably some of my favs are the pork bean curd roll and the French cha siu baos. I really like the variety of other dishes you can order as well. I really like the lobster noodles hehe. Other good choices are the salted meat vegetables rice and the marinated wheat gluten with peanuts and black fungus. (no pictures)

Yelp

Yelp
I can't recommend Shanghai No 1 enough! If you're looking for high-quality dim sum at a great price, this is the place to go. The BBQ pork buns are absolutely amazing--fluffy, slightly sweet, and filled with tender, caramelized pork that has the perfect balance of savory and sweet flavors. Each bite melts in your mouth! The egg tarts are another favorite--the pastry is buttery and flaky, while the custard filling is silky smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. They taste fresh and warm, making them the perfect way to end your meal. Beyond these, everything I've tried has been flavorful and well-prepared including the lobster noodles and other dimsum classics. The portions are generous, and the prices are super reasonable for the quality you're getting. Service is quick, and the atmosphere is casual but welcoming. Definitely a go-to spot for a dim sum fix! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
There is no dim sum cart at this place. You place the order first and the dim sum orders will come out. I like the atmosphere of this place, perfect for a date. Foods were delicious. Loved the pineapple bun dessert and tarts. The deep fried taro balls are the best! Freshly made. There is a $2 fee per person for tea charge.

Yelp
Honestly - $24 per person at dim sum is quite the deal now a days. They charge 2 per person for tea. Dishes range from $4.99, $5.99 and $6.99. But we did get three specialty plates. Rounding up the price below for the sake of ease. This is what we got for a group of 8 which was pretty much a perfect order: Steamed Shrimp Dumpling ($6) - Standard. The skin was doughy. Comes in 4. Pork & Shrimp Shu Mai ($6) - meaty and delicious comes in 4. Funny that they mention roe on the menu, but that's pretty common. We were considering getting another order they were really good. Sticky Rice with Lotus Leaf ($6) - Not the best. Mushy and sticky. Though, some liked it more than others. Pork Bean Curd Roll w. Cordyceps ($7) - For those who like this. It's good Steamed Turnip Cake Preserved Meat ($7) - The group was torn. I liked the consistency. Like a mashed potatoes where you have to scoop it out of the dish, but most would rather have this pan fried. I'd skip this next time because of the price. Steamed BBQ Pork Buns ($6) - Standard and good. Sufficient amount of meat. Shrimp & Yellow Chives Rice Roll ($7) - Cut into 6 pieces. Super basic and a bit over priced. But each bite had a shrimp. Chinese Bread Stick Rice Roll ($5) The Chinese donut was thinner than usual. And more bite sized when cut into 6 pieces. Spring Rolls Stuffed with Three Delicacies ($6) - Good, crispy and HOT. Standard for egg roll lovers. Deep Fried Taro Ball ($5) - Large and simple. Not too oily. French BBQ Pork Buns ($6) - This is odd. There were Frosted Flakes cereal attached to it. Never had anything like this, but general consensus is that it made the buns too sweet. Skip it, they were silly. Portuguese Egg Tart ($6) - Basic and on the sweeter side. Baked Egg Yolk Custard Bun ($7)- Good and hot. More of a dessert Pan-Fried Baozi Stuffed w. Pork (12)- These were meaty, juicy and they GUSH. It was doughy and delicious. Steamed Bun Stuffed w. Pork (13) - I believe these are the XLB. The dumplings got stuck to the paper and the juice oozed out before getting to our plates. They gave us 4 complementary ones on the house which was so great of them. I'd go to a specialty XLB place instead for this dish. Sautéed Snow Pea Leaf w. Garlic (23) Inflation city. This plate of fiber was good, but not worth the price. My eating mate was here 10 years ago and distinctively remembered the tap water tasking funky and metallic. 10 years later, it still tasted a bit off. So I'd stick to the oolong tea that is dank and dark. I'd come back again to try all of the cheaper dishes priced at $5. It's standard, and done well. The chandeliers and the red walls give Titanic. There's a sufficient amount of people that there's good energy at 11:30AM on a Saturday and we didn't have to wait for a nice large table.

Yelp
Great place for dim sum! The place feels very cozy and plenty of seating. My SO and I got our favorite go to dim sum dish and it was super tasty! My favorite was the braised tripe. There was so much flavor. We also got the black sesame buns for dessert which was a little too sweet for me but still delicious. The food came out quickly and the server was very attentive. Will highly recommend if you haven't checked this place out yet!

Yelp
Got sick after going here. Had diarrhea and was throwing up for days and food was expensive to do that to me. Bathroom was disgusting

Yelp
It was an ok experience. Came here for lunch one day and ordered a bunch of dishes and dim sum items to share. This restaurant has been here for many many many years. Lots of locals love this place. The interior probably needs an update and isn't very clean. The food was OK, it says it's a Shanghainese restaurant, but it really doesn't serve any Shanghainese food. Most of the food here is Cantonese. A little bit of false advertising. The dim sum was mediocre at best, very greasy. The portion size is mediocre as well. Service was OK, can be spotty at times. To be honest the meal, and the experience was very mediocre, and not very memorable at all. I would not go out of my way to come here to eat. The food is nothing unique and I feel like I can get better food elsewhere.

Yelp
Parking: Open, free lot. Underground parking is also available. I came here for breakfast/brunch. Their dim sum was typical and as you would imagine. They have all the basic items and it didn't feel overly indulgent. It was of higher than usual quality... Do I dare say... Lunasia level? Their dim sum didn't stand out more than any other spot, BUT they have Shanghainese fried fish, and that was what stood out in my mind. It was crispy, sweet, and savory. Nothing too fishy, but it just had great texture and flavor. I recommend ordering this if you order anything. Final verdict: I would come back for the fish and if it's convenient with no wait, dim sum.

Yelp
4++ This is one of those places where it would be more ideal to come with a large group in order to order a bunch of items and share (banquet style?) It's a little hard to spot off the busy restaurant street of Valley Blvd in SGV and it's on the second floor of a strip mall. It's obvious they specialize in Shanghai food, but I believe the have other regional stuff on their extensive menu. It has a very classy /woodsy feel to the space with worn hardwood floors, large tables/booths, and chandeliers. Like if you kidnapped me and I woke up in this place and you told me I was in a restaurant in lower east Manhattan, I would believe you. As mentioned above, this place is ideal for larger groups, but wanted to come here to get their pan fried dumplings on a whim. Since I was by myself, I didn't want to just get the dumplings, but couldn't order a lot, so I got a basic staple: the shrimp fried rice. The fried rice was super tasty as expected, but the dumplings were excellent. I got the recommendation off of a food podcast and wasn't disappointed. Juicy and crispy/soft and loaded with sesame. Very very good! Might be some of my favorite dumplings in SGV. Also, either forgot or didn't realize it was on Jonathan Gold's list. This place has received some accolades over the years and I see why. Definitely would love to come back with a bigger group.

Yelp
All dim sum dishes from A to C are $4.99 on weekdays, Great value ! This is my go to dim sum restaurant, and dinner is also a must try. If you like shanghInese food, this is the restaurant.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
As non-locals this was a great experience. I'm in no position to evaluate as I have no points of comparison, but our group had a great experience. The banquet hall was classic - red velvet walls, chandeliers, high backed chairs. The service for our group of Anglos was great. We were the only non-Chinese speakers in the room and the staff were very kind and patient and led us to great choices. A whole duck, whole steamed fish, chicken with crispy noodles, pork dumplings, tofu, beef, bok choy, and sticky rice for dessert. It was a feast. The place was packed but they didn't rush us. It was a great evening!
google avatar

Yelp
Tonight I had a banquet-style dinner at Shanghai No.1. The food was great and the service was top-notch. The appetizers that we ordered were all good and tasty. The smoke fish, 肴肉, and others. It also served dim sum during the morning.
google avatar

Yelp
Service 0 stars The dimsums are 7, 6, and 5 dollars for C, B and A dishes. However the menu says they are all 4.99. We spoke to the manager and asked about the difference, we were told the advertisement at the restaurant entrance said all for 4.99ea on only weekdays. Totally unreasonable expectations for customers to seek out the advertisement. The manager flat out refused to make it right, nor did they say they will correct the menu to make it right for other customers. Consider yourselves warned on this. FOOD This Shanghai restaurant is trying to be Cantonese as well. But it's failing. The lobster noodles, lobster was fresh, but lack the ginger and scallions fragrance. Noodles was basically dry and blend soy sauce lomain. Overall two stars. About the dimsum, it's pretty bad for the price especially. The chicken feet tasted nothing but salty, so was the tofu skin wrap, the hand shui gok did not taste fresh/skin is tough like it's been thrown back in the oil pot after it was out for a while. Only thing that tasted decent was the shrimp rice roll, although I ordered the C version with chives, I found maybe one piece of chive if any. Overall two stars for being lenient, a very disappointing experience. We will not return for cantonese food at least.

Yelp
Came here on a weekday for dim sum! All dim sum are about $5! But we did order some of their special dishes on their regular menu. The prices are really very reasonable for today's inflation situation. Most of the dim sum are very delicious! Some out stands the others. But everything tastes decent overall! Service was good too. But it was a slow day, not sure how is it different if it gets busy. We would definitely come back again!
google avatar

Yelp
Went to Shanghai No. 1 for a quick dim sum. Overall the food was very cheap and was served pretty fast. I saw that they have a new king crab 3 in 1 ( where you buy a king crab and they cook it in three ways) and had to order it. I have to saw the food was sooooo good. The fried rice was the best I ever had. The service was great. Just the same as a very traditional dim sum restaurant. The place was also very gorgeous. The seats were so cute like a royal palace and they even have historical art pieces on the wall! There was a lot of people waiting in line after we finished eating so you might want to reserve a seat if you are going on a weekend.

Yelp
Shanghai No 1 Seafood Village has been around for years, but they have also had several changes in owners, management and chefs during many difficult years. It looks like they have finally found the right combination post-covid. The gaudi red decor and crystal chandeliers throughout the restaurant are still there, but the food has vastly improved. Except for the morning and afternoon dim sum service, Shanghai No 1 serves predominantly authentic Shanghainese food. Shanghainese food or Benbang cuisine relies on styles of cooking found in the Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, such as steaming, braising, stir-frying, marinating and roasting. And all if executed properly are absolutely delicious. We ordered a nice sampling of Shanghainese food. The braised eel with bamboo shoots had a nice flavor profile. The presentation of the Shanghai Smoked Fish and Whole Braised Fish with Ketchup Pine Nut were both spectacularly visual and tasty. The diced beef was very tender and most likely filet mignon cubes. The only disappointing dish, in my opinion, was the stewed egg with scallop. The steam egg was flavorless and the scallop were hard to find that did not impart any flavor to the egg. My most favorite dessert was the Ginko and White Fungus in Taro Paste of the three that we tried. Service was good overall. It was a bit hectic as the food came out too fast and almost all within 20 minutes. They could have done a better job in pacing the food and in a proper order. The rice cakes or hot stone rice, for example, should have been the last savory dish to be served and the old duck soup should have followed the appetizer. Prices were reasonable post-covid and portions were fair. Overall, I enjoyed the dining experience at Shanghai No 1. We had a private room for our larger party which was comfortable. Corkage fee is $15.00. With the recent ownership and management changes, Shanghai No 1 is finally back!!
google avatar

Yelp
My parents wanted to have dim sum in a new place to them, so Shanghai No. 1 was selected. Glad to have gotten a private room so conversation acoustics can be better. The decor reminds me of a movie smoking room, red velvet and chandeliers! Dim sum was delicious, we mostly ordered some Cantonese favorites but should have ordered more food that has a Shanghai spin to it. My personal favorite, chicken feet had good flavor and texture of the ham sui gok to be just the right crispy on the outside and the soft chewiness on the inside. I would pass on the steamed taro cake and steamed cake, bland and not worth the belly space. The rice of preserved vegetables and salted pork was delicious and light, I liked the crispy rice that stuck to the pot and cooked more. The steamed lava egg yolk buns and fried dumplings coated in sesame were also excellent.
google avatar

Lapson C.

Yelp
They are very sleaky. I go to that restaurant to eat dim sum with my family all the time. I order take out and think that I will be charged the same. I order two rice rolls 蝦腸。They charge me $15.49. I find out that the receipt attached to my take out is $11. including tax. I went back. They say that the take out price is higher. How much higher? 40%. i tell them you don't serve if I take out. Even you charge higher. It should not be that much without service. They show me at the entrance the price is for eat in only. I felt that I am cheated and they show the regular price nowhere noticeable. That is why i say that SLEAKY. The receipt shows $11. They collect $15.49. I wonder how do they report the sales tax and report their revenue to IRS?
google avatar

Yelp
The ambiance is what makes this place stand out. However, there are TVs mounted on the wall so that makes it a little less proper. They have these chandeliers which make the place look elegant and fancy. The wood carvings are also very interesting. It is located upstairs in a 2-story plaza. The plaza was ok, I didn't find many things to look at. Service was good, they were kinda busy so it was somewhat hard to track them down at times. The fish was Shanghai style and tasted pretty good, they were this dry, smoky, sweet-flavored fried fish fillet bites. Their Sheng Jian Bao's are almost authentic (knot was on top, not on the bottom) the taste was just ok. (Comparing to the ones we had in Shanghai) If you are Shanghainese, you could appreciate this place. If you're looking for American/Cantonese-style Chinese food, this place is probably not for you.
google avatar

Charles P.

Yelp
I was skeptical about coming here because of the average Yelp review, but still attempted to come eat here especially if it's for my friends birthday. As you drive into the shopping plaza, it's best to park at the P2 lower level near the elevators since the weekends it's extremely packed. As you enter the restaurant the interior reminds me of a high end luxury western 1930s hotel in China. We asked to sit inside a private room to eat a wide variety of meals which range from jelly fish, preserved fish, fried fish, Sauted Pork, Snow Pea Veggies, dumplings and of course the 3 course King Crab!! We ordered one of the most expensive dishes on the meal costing over $700 for a 10+ pound crab which in turn made a salt, pepper fried crab dish, Egg cran dish and the best the garlic crab leg dish. The customer service was great and the restaurant manager took great care of us. It was truly a great place to eat and you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
We came for lunch and were seated at a nice round table, The decor was nice with red accents and the silver chairs were confortable : an extra star for the ambiance. As for the food, it was a complete debacle. The steamed bao were gelatinous, the duck was average , the chicken was drowned with soy sauce. The shanghai smoked fish was ok but the pork dishes were not very good: The pork belly was tough. The chicken in a spicy sauce was also not very good ( served cold?) and had little meat. The mango pudding was average at best. I really did not enjoy this place !!
google avatar

Yelp
It's arguably in the top-5 best Dim Sum restaurants in California. It's a la carte (no rolling carts auctioning food here), and the menu has shrank considerably post pandemic. And we suspect they've hired a new head chef as well. But the place is worth trying for all of you dim sum enthusiasts out there. Their Shanghainese and Cantonese seafood dinner menu is equally impressive. The ambience has the typical old British colonial antique furniture style to it. It's pretty impressive actually. Highly recommend!

Yelp
google avatar

Yelp
Great affordable dim-sum in a large, upscale, clean environment. Service was excellent, and the teapots are large! We were about to feed 7 hungry people for less than $100. Some favorites: -shrimp dumpling (har gow) -egg yolk custard bun -beef rice crepe roll -shrimp rice crepe roll - chive rice crepe roll -chicken feet

Yelp
Went here because haven't been here for long time. Foods were delicious but the service wasn't that good. Asking for a glass of water so I can take my medicine. Have to ask a few times for the server to bring a pot of hot water. Still would come and try other dishes, especially Smoked Fish.

Yelp
Located on the 2nd floor at the same plaza as Boiling Point. The front entrance doesn't look like much but the inside looks much more elegant and luxury like back in the days. They also have different sectioned dining areas. Parking: more parking available underground garage We came for dim sum and most of the dishes are $4.99. With some special dishes at 5.99+ Quality of the food is pretty good and most popular item is their steamed BBQ pork bun. I personally don't find anything too special about it. But I do like their steamed preserved salty egg yolk bun. I also like that they make their rice noodle skin thin and soft, such as the streamed rice rolls and steamed shrimp dumplings.

Yelp
We had the $500 set menu, since there were 12 of us. All dishes were good but in a bit small portions side except the pork stew. My son and I hardly eat at all. By the time the food made its round to us, there's not much left or barely anything left. My son and I were hungry when we came home. Service is good. Will I go back? Yes, just our little family and try the food we wanted to order, instead of premade set menu or with that much people.

Yelp
12/17/2022 The restaurant was closed during the Covid-19 and reopened on April 1, 2022 with a new owner. The original chef who worked at the Shanghai No. 1 JinAn in Shanghai was called back to work here. As a result, some signature dishes are still available like Jellyfish with Vinegar (老醋海蜇), Drunken Crabs (上海炝蟹), Sliced Boiled Chicken (三黄鸡) and etc. The ambience is still one of the top Chinese restaurants in Los Angeles.

Yelp
Took my parents to dimsum this morning and of course they would suggest ShangHai#1. This is their usual spot, they come here at least once a week. I was very impressed with today's quality, Wow everything was spectacular and delicious! Each dish was piping hot and fresh! I was surprised since today is Labor Day, they were super busy but still able to maintained good quality food and service. Service is always attentive and great. The owner knows my dad by his first name, that's how frequent he visit this place. My dad is a food critic since he's a chef himself so he's extra selective in food but he would always compliment this place but today was extraordinary. We ordered 12 dishes for 4 people. Each dish was only $4.99 (wow!!) except the 生煎包 was $5.99. This is the cheapest dimsum place with great quality in 626, since most places charge $7+ for a Small dish. We ordeded: 1. Steamed Shrimp dumpling (har gow) 2. Chicken feet with black bean sauce 3. Peanut pork & chicken celery dumpling 4. Sticky rice with lotus leaf 5. Pork bean curd roll with cordyceps 6. Shrimp & yellow chives rice roll 7. Cilantro with beef rice roll 8. Baked BBQ pork bun 9. Deep fried dumpling with shrimp filling 10. Baked egg yolk custard bun 11. Hoisan hom gai lung 12. Pan fried baozi I highly recommend ShangHai #1 for dimsum!! If you're in 626 for dimsum, think no further this is the spot for you. (:

Yelp
Took my Shanghai fam to check this place out. Also I think I ate at this brand of restaurant in Shanghai in the 90s. Really good selection of authentic Shanghainese restaurant food, including all the tasty and aesthetically pleasing dishes you'd get at family gatherings. The managers also speak Shanghainese! Some memorable details: 1. My family got hyped when we had the drunken crabs. Beyond salty, spicy, sour, sweet, bitter, fat, and umami, for Shanghainese people, alcohol flavor is its own flavor (no joke lol). It's like a sweet rice alcohol flavor I've been eating some I was little (no drinking age limit or restrictions in 90s China). 2. My wife got hyped at all the crab yolk flavored food. I guess for shnanghainese ppl, crab yolk is its own iconic flavor too. 3. The braised pork was soooooo tender that, when they present the cooked meat, they will shake the plate to show off the bouncy texture of the pork fat/skin. Just look my pictures. Highly recommends

Yelp
The food was delicious and well-portioned. The service was attentive and quick. All wait staff had a sense of urgency to get things done without making it seem rushed. :)

Yelp
Its on the second floor of life plaza center. Ample parking outside and also underground From the outside it may look not that nice, but inside is quite spacious and has multiple sections that allows you to have large parties! Food has been consistently great, and price is surprisingly affordable. I highly recommend: 1. 101 braised pork in brown sauce ($19) 2. 203 fungi with wasabi ($10) 3. 206 vegeterian duck w sauce ($14) 4. 807 fried cabbage w pork ($15) 5. Shanghai roasted ducks

Yelp
Shanghai No. 1 Seafood Village is on a prime stretch of Valley Boulevard in San Gabriel. It has a large space not lacking in chandeliers on the second floor. It serves classic Shanghainese dishes while also offering Cantonese dim sum at lunchtime. Bring a large group so you can sample more dishes. Braised Eels and Bamboo Shoots: The thinly sliced eel meat is stir fried in dark soy sauce with ginger, garlic, ham, and bamboo shoots. Then, it is topped with hot sizzling oil. The strands of brown snakelike fish are nicely cooked, slick, and soft. Tofu Skin with Snow Cabbage and Soy Beans: This classic dish is a study in textures. The tofu skins are thin sheets of dried soy milk. They are thin, delicate, and noodle-like. The green soy beans are firm and chewy. Snow cabbage, or mustard greens, are shredded, savory, and coat the other ingredients. Shredded Pork and Preserved Vegetables Noodle Soup: The noodles are firm and slightly chewy. Mustard greens and strips of pork pair well together. The broth is clear and sticky flavored. Hot Stone Rice: The rice is cooked in a stone vessel with slices of ham and bok choy. Shen Jian Bao: These giant pan fried dumplings are crunchy on the bottom and doughy on the top. White sesame seeds cover the base while a sprinkling of fragrant black sesame seeds garnish the top. Take care not to squirt any juice while voting the dumpling. Parking: Head straight to the underground lot where you'll find plenty of spots in the shade.

Yelp
The food is not impressive as I thought because I was raised in Shanghai. The food is ok, but for most people who never tried Southern China food, they will feel the food is special. I will comment on the customer service instead of food this time. The front desk skinny guy and the boss are not friendly. They made me think that I should appreciate them bringing the food up. Overall, I feel that don't enjoy the food nor service at all.

Yelp
"Fotiaoqiang" for delivery at $28.88 by itself, is supposed to be a thick, rich soup which traditionally has expensive ingredients like abalone, shark fin, etc. Instead, got a watery soup with a chicken foot and what appeared to be a tiny blackish block of mushroom (or as the restaurant cashier and manager argued... abalone). This was supposed to be a day-early Mother's Day dinner. Instead of enjoying her nice meal at home, including the fancy bowl of Fotiaoqiang soup, my mom had to drive herself and the soup to the restaurant (restaurant staff refused to admit any mixup or mistake over the phone). Once my mom arrived at the restaurant, the cashier and manager kept arguing how this was totally correct and the menu photo is just a hyped up product photo. Finally, someone seeming to be the owner offered to refund the soup. Yet, the cashier and manager still continued to argue and ruin my mother's night and dinner. What a horrid restaurant that deserves its sad Yelp rating. Three stars and three dollar signs should be a warning to all!

Yelp
We have Dim Sum for lunch on Sunday, the shrimp rice roll is smelly and we ask to change it to beef rice roll and it take more than 20 minutes. We also order sweet potato salted egg ball, it is nice but also take long time to wait. When we check out, the prices are not the the same as mark on the menu, am I mis-understand the written word? ? Bad experience!!

Yelp
Pro: spacious, tea, spicy dumpling. Grow: service My first restaurant of 2023. I initially came to the hotspot across the street but it was closed so we decided to try this spot. The restaurant is spacious and decorated in with chandeliers and nice tables/chairs. Not sure what the decor vibe was exactly but it was cute. There is plenty of parking available which made it a breeze. Almost all the guests seemed local so I knew the food would be bombskies. Food is good but service is lacking. We waited a bit to get our order taken and once again to have the food served. Food rundown: Soup dumpling, spicy shrimp, and shumai were my favorites. All were very flavorful and the spicy shrimp had the Szechuan pepper that I love. The bbq pork buns were out least favorite as the meat was a bit chewy. Unlimited tea hit the spot as it was a chilly LA day. Overall, some goodies here but service makes me want to try a few other spots in the area.

Yelp
This was Teppanyaki Hot Pot for many years before the pandemic closing. It's now a Dim Sum restaurant where the dishes are $4.99 each. It's very easy to get carried away ordering. Not bad but not great either. The waiter was dishonest recommending the Lobster E Fu Noodle Special for $25 claiming the lobster was a 1.5 to 2.0 lb when it was no more than 1.0 lb! I will not be returning any time soon when there are much better places for Dim Sum. I do not like being ripped off!

Yelp
As long as each food looks like black sauce, the taste of the food is similar, sweeter. Normal service, not bad. The price is more expensive than other restaurants

Yelp
There were some good dishes but overall the food seemed pretty oily. The decor is very interesting.

Yelp
We ordered couple dishes and got so disappointed. 1. Crab meat tofu didn't have crab meat nor crab flavor in the sauce. All what we had was a bowl of tofu with yellow sauce but no crab flavor. 2. Special seafood rice this dish didn't have many dish old timing had cucumber but I saw one piece in the whole bowl. 3. Seafood crispy noodle didn't have many seafood. All what I got were noodle and bean sprouts. 4. Braised eels with bamboo shoot had no bamboo shoots at all. The ell was overcooked lost the crispy texture. 5. Pan fried bun used to be very crispy and crunchy but it wasn't this time. Overall the food qualities go down a lot. The services are nice. Environment was ok.

Yelp
Good dim sum. Leans more on buns and dumplings. Try out their egg yolk buns. Very unique! Great ambience especially in a run down mall. Pricier. Order off menu Vice carts. 1 star off because they couldn't get their act together and they kept pushing dishes we didn't want as a group. Did we get overcharged? We never checked but it's a possibility.

Yelp
This place is a scam. I reserved a private room for lunch today with the understanding the minimum expense would be $300 (as the person who took my reservation informed me). As I was placing my order, the manager told me my selections would not meet their minimum requirement of $500. When I corrected him that the minimum was $300, he still insisted I needed to add a few more plates which included 2 orders of lobster rice cake and their signature whole fish. A few minutes later when I had the opportunity to peek at the screen, my total was almost $500. When I asked him and the waiters to cancel some orders, they refused, claiming that all dishes were already being prepared. I managed to cancel a soup though. When the 2 orders of lobster fish cake (about $180) were brought out, there's only one lobster. Of course, they claimed that it's the size of the lobster that made up two orders. Service was also lousy. I had to walk out of the room 8x to chase down a waiter. Don't go there, they lost my business already.
