"Prince’s, the iconic Houston hamburger chain that closed its last location after Hurricane Harvey, is back. The restaurant, which served Houstonians for more than 80 years before shuttering, has opened a new location inside the clubhouse at the Sharpstown Park Golf Course, ABC13 reports. The location is being run by Prince’s longtime owner John Broussard." - Brittanie Shey

I just started golf last week and it was my first time playing 9 holes. Awesome place for beginners. Everybody was really friendly and will be back another time!

Google
Excellent municipal course. Friendly folks running the place and not too uptight. Price is just right for those wanting to play golf instead of show off their wallet. Pace of play can be slow, but that's fine with me. Clubhouse is on the left side of the brick building that is shared with the community center. Very little water and pretty simple layout, perfect for beginners and intermediate. Excellent care of the course.

Amazing golf course, well maintained and excellent price!

Google
I would consider Sharpstown as my home course. Best muni course in Houston for the price — $27 on the weekday with cart. They really do a great job taking care of the place and Chris at the pro shop is awesome. He has to deal w a lot of nonsense w the rich HS kids that can cause a headache on the course but overall, you should have a great time! Tips - - Don’t go after 3 on Wednesday or Thurs to avoid HS groups - Great food in the area after the round - If it rained the day before, it’s going to be wet

Google
This is a great course for all golf lovers. Fairways are wide and forgiving, greens are well maintained, and the course in all is not over challenging. For the price it’s a great value. Will definitely be coming back after my first time.

Mario Villarreal

Google
Excellent course for all anyone who enjoys golf. Well priced so it can get a little crowded

Google
Course is ok, a bit rough in places but certainly priced right for what it is.

Google
Course itself is easy but the group is either the best people ever or the worst. A guy threaten my daughter because of a shot she didn’t even hit. He threaten to hit her with a ball on purpose and repeated this 3 times. He was an elderly male who got mad and told her to respect golf rules and that she shouldn’t hit until he was off the green( which she did). That was hole 6 and he was on hole 7 which is right next to hole 6. My daughter’s shot went off and rolled to the elderly man’s cart( as so claimed by HIS OWN GROUP PLAYER) never hitting the man. Either way the elderly man’s attitude was unforgivable when earlier on hole 2 he his own shot was awful and horrendous and hit my son. The course itself isn’t bad but since anyone can be let on please stay safe.

Yelp
For the price this is a great value. The best municipal course inside the Houston metropolitan area for the price. The people here are amazing and it is always a great time with great people.

Yelp
The marshal, an older, larger man, was absolutely unhinged at us grabbing beers at the halfway house before we started the back 9. He started yelling at us after we were being polite explaining what happened and belittling us. How this guy still had a job is beyond me. Stay away from this place. The old guy working the pro shop also could not have cared less about people coming in. Judging by the other reviews it seems like this course hates having new customers. Absolutely crazy, I've never had a worse experience at a golf course.

Thierry M.

Yelp
Most affordable course in Houston. They have a driving range and a nice putting green. Nice course to play on. Very forgiving, I almost never lose a golf ball. Nice for groups and they have a burger place on premises, can't beat that!

Yelp
Just paid $24 to play at 4:30pm October 4th, 2020. Due to the courses terrible golfers golf etiquette I was only able to get in 9 holes, playing as a single, in 2.5 hours. I was sitting behind a two-some with no one in front of them while they racked up as many hits as they could. At the turn the sun was gone. I go to the pro shop to see if I could receive a rain check for the back 9 I wasn't able to get in. I was greeted by an old balding guy named Chris stating, "No, if you played 9 you got your moneys worth", "it's the same for 18 as 9". Terrible customer service. The disrespect and lack of enthusiasm to help out was sub par. You have lost my business. -A fellow first responders who protects your territory.

Yelp
Two stars counts as "Meh. I've experienced better." which is pretty accurate for Sharpstown Golf Course. This place isn't a complete dumpster fire but there are plenty of better courses in Houston if you start getting choosy. That being said, they're one of the cheapest in town and you'll have little issue scheduling a tee time, but be prepared to get what you paid for. There isn't a full driving range, just a cage to warm up your swing. Good to know ahead of time. Tee boxes and fairways were hard as rock. We couldn't get the tees in the grass to tee up and finally ended up using old tee holes. Fairways gave us an extra 20 yards on the drives since they were so hard packed. Rules are pretty lax on the course. If you're a cooler stuffed with beer and radio jamming the tunes kind of golfer, you'll be fine here. Also, not kidding, saw a guy smoking a joint on one of the greens, so there's that. Hey, whatever gets your swing loose. The course itself isn't terribly challenging as far as hazards and makes for a fast round if you're not held up behind a slow group. I've heard it gets packed on peak days/times but didn't have that problem when we went on a weekend round, but maybe best to schedule online rather than walk on. If you're looking to get some practice rounds in and don't want to pay an arm and a leg doing so, Sharpstown might be a good option. Looking for manicured greens, little pyramids of golf balls on the driving range and a country club atmosphere? May be better checking elsewhere.

Dave T.

Yelp
This is a completely average Public course. It's hard to find the clubhouse if you don't know where it is. The attendant was super grumpy prices are reasonable. The driving range sucks - you are hitting into a net. You get what you pay for. If you want to just go out and shoot a cheap round of golf this is not a bad option.

Ronald C.

Yelp
In a unique spot in Houston. Tends to be packed most of the time. Especially during twilight hours; starter definitely has its work cut out for him everytime ive went. A healthy mix of walking and riding players. Need to be more alert with your game due to spacing between fairways along with the number of players on the course. Biggest thing is there is a driving "cage" vs. range. Its maybe 6-8 mats in a separate gated area. Casual place to golf if you dont mind playing in between. Greens are pretty ok. Not as many hazards.

Benny Z.

Yelp
Bunch of old sticklers , was out to travel and only had one bag for 2 people . Wouldn't let us play , pretty rude to be honest . Seemed like a nice course though ‍ . Wouldn't go here if your trying to learn , no driving range to warm up and too strict on rules .

Jeff T.

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday early afternoon in February and was partied with 3 other people. The starter was nice, and the course was in good shape. Wide open fairways and not too much water. It's reasonably priced.

Prive M.

Yelp
Great beginners golf course, although it could you use a face lift. Served its purpose

Art D.

Yelp
Sharpstown is a better course than what people give it credit. I play it all the time, great price on the weekend and during the week. The greens are some of the best in Houston the fairways are in good shape and they do a good job in getting walk on out timely. It is wide open so difficult to hit a bad shot and not be able to recover, but it can happen. Overall great course, great people and a good time.

Richard C.

Yelp
Chop Chop Choppa style! If that song describes your golf game, then this might be the place for you. You don't have to be pro to come here, although I do see a lot of scratch golfers play here as well. It's a very decent course for the price. I have been coming here since the mid 90's and this course is has not been in better condition. I played a full 18 here last Friday and was pleasantly surprised by the excellent condition the course was in. The marshall's here are very friendly and they will try their best to maintain the rate of play, if there are a group of choppers holding everyone up. If you read my review of Melrose and feel that you are ready for the next level, then Sharpstown is the next level. We ordered beer at the cafeteria and they gave us a travel cooler with ice, which I thought was a nice touch. In the past they would just give you the beer in a black trashbag. We decided to get a snack before we played the back 9 and I must say, their chili hot dogs are really good. They use real chili, not the wolf hot dog chili. The hot dogs were thick and beefy as well. Definitely worth the $3 i paid, and chili was only $.25 more than a regular hot dog. No brainer there. Tip: If you get an entertainment coupon book, they have a coupon for buy 1 green fee, get one free. Those books can be had for as little as $5 mid-way through the year, so it will pay for iteself very quickly. If you have not been here in a while or you are a new golfer that wants to try a real course, then definitely give this place a try. And if you are new and a group is coming up fast on you, then let them play through.

Megan C.

Yelp
Great scenery, and plenty of green! The reason this location only gets 2 stars is due to the area. It is extremely unsafe to play on this golf course unless you go early in the morning. There is a lot of gang activity in the apartments that surround every side of this golf course, so unfortunately, it is used as a travel space for some unruly individuals. Don't even think about coming here at night: gunshots everywhere!

Yelp
Ahhhhhh...... A home for the truest hack and embarrassed golfer. I take pride in calling Sharpstown Golf Course "The Country Club" to the growls and sneers of my golfing friends. Only because at one point a long time ago this short Par 70 course was a private Country Club and hosted the PGA Tour stop, The Houston Open. "Awesome Courses Affordable Prices" The Sharpstown Golf Course was acquired by the City of Houston in 1981 and since then has been a great spot to play golf for many years. The course has had a lot of great things done in the last 3 years such as new golf carts in 2008 and a new golf cart garage in 2009. Let me be blunt with everyone i am terrible at golf i have no illusions. I have only been playing for 5 months now and know this game takes a day to learn and a lifetime to master. But to my demise i have fallen in love with the challenge it has brought to my life, that being said The PROS: It is less than 20 min away from my home in downtown. I can always get a tee time unless its peak hours by simply walking on. I rarely rarely lose balls on this course unless I completely mishit the ball (which i am capable of doing!) This course is close to where I work which is great. The course is short so during cool days it can be walked with no problem. When i use on-line coupons i never spend more than $22 for 18 holes of golf with cart included on the weekends. During twilight, weekday golf is $14 with cart and it is very very laid back. The CONS: Some of my more experienced golfing friends wont even play with me here because they feel its beneath them. The greens aren't very fast at all. You may get hit by a ball due to the fact that so many inexperienced golfers are playing here and there are a lot of mishits. Also golf balls are sometimes going into other fairways which can be lined up next to each other. The Snack bar is the void of any real food except bottled drinks and candy all other foods STAY AWAY. Overall I am particularly biased to this course because it was the first course i ever played a round of golf at but i think the value is here for anyone who is looking for a fun round of golf with a buddy and doesn't want to drop over $40 per person.

Yelp
Didn't really expect a lot out of this course.....however it was a pretty decent track. Good course to walk and I have met some great people out here. Greens were in decent condition and fairways were ok. Nice course but beware of playing at peak times it can be brutally slow! if you pull up and the parking lot looks full just leave....unless you like 6 hour rounds. I think it was only $14-$16 to play in afternoon.

Tim J.

Yelp
Fantastic new greens are now fast and smooth. Now we got a slightly challenging course with a PGA'ish quality putting surface. This course is moving up on my Htown golf course list!

Christopher W.

Yelp
I definitely like finding and trying golf courses that cost me less than $30 to get on. I went on a random Sunday arriving at 1:30pm thinking that no one would be there, to my surprise it was absolutely PACKED. I think it was due to the weather since it was such a nice day but it was crazy the amount of people and unorganized chaos occurring around the first tee. I was able to finally tee off at 2:30pm. It took us 3 hours just to finish 9 holes due to having to wait at each tee box for the group in-front of us to tee off and get far enough away for us to hit. The fairways are a little close to each other with only trees to stop incoming balls, a lot of times we had to wait for other players to hit off our fairway back on to their own. I almost got hit by flying balls like 3 times in 9 holes. Overall the amount of people on the course and the disorganized tee person created a lot of problems on the first 9 holes. As far as the condition of the course: The greens were extremely fast and dried up. The fairways were straight for the most part. There was little difference between the fairway and the rough. There were local kids on the course screaming and shouting at the group infront of us. I will not be going back to this course.

Chrystel A.

Yelp
This is a great find in Houston. Nice greens, friendly staff and great location. Great place to play golf at affordable prices.

S N.

Yelp
If I could give it zero stars I would!!! The fairways are hard as a rock! I saw someone get shot by an assault rifle on the par three number 15. do I need to say anymore!!? 'cause I have more dirt on this course...

George L.

Yelp
This is your typical municipal course, filled with weekend warriors and hackers in blue jeans. But if you can get past this, you'll find that this course is a terrific value. Weekend green fees + cart will run you around $35, and the fairways for the most part are nice and wide, so you'd be hard pressed to lose a ball. The greens are surprisingly firm and responsive all year round. Just be sure to keep your head on a swivel, b/c the golfers here tend to be inexperienced, and will drive blindly onto your fairway looking for their balls, and may pick up yours by accident. The cart girls are few and far between, so be sure to stock up on goodies before your round or at the turn. Hit 'em good!

Nick R.

Yelp
We played here Saturday morning, three of us. Not the fanciest course but if you want to work on your game this is a solid course for that. The greens are pretty true some are a bit tricky but nothing to write home to Mom about. The bunkers have sand and be ready to hit out of them. Keep the ball on the fairway and you will be fine, end up in the rough and you will have to deal with the roots on some of the trees near by. Water does come into play on some of the holes but for the most part its pretty safe. The pace of play is pretty decent unless you get behind some slow twosome, then you will have to see when you can pass them up - if they let you play though..... some old buzzards on this course are pretty difficult. No cart girl so stock up before you get to the course. The bad thing, if you can call it that is the driving range on this course is shortened - you hit into a net. The putting green is ok, typical green. We would play here again.

Ehsan K.

Yelp
Okay place if you are on a budget. Usually it's pretty packed and slow. I would look elsewhere if you want to have an enjoyable round. This is best for a someone trying to improve their game.

Jason W.

Yelp
As only a decent golfer, I like this courses prices and wide fairways. Since it is a municipal course, you get a better price, but you also get more beginners. So just be careful out there. This is far from being a 'great' golfing course, but it is exactly what you want from a public course. You can BYOB, dress however you like, not pay a lot of money, and the staff is nice and friendly. It also helps that it is close to a cheap meal in Chinatown afterwards.

Richard W.

Yelp
Course is relatively well-kept, CHEAP, and they work you in even without tee times. Not a very difficult course, which encourages the novice golfers like myself.

Vinh N.

Yelp
It's hard being tough on a Municipal course but if you're not, they'll never learn. Course quality is probably close to a 3 star as it was definitely playable without too many bare spots. Greens were playable as well, with most being decently kept. There are definitely some dead spots and additional grooming that could be done but quality matches the price. The reduction in stars is due to the way they run the joint. Tee times basically mean nothing. Good if you don't have one cause they'll just put you on and even throw out 5 somes without hesitation. Bad if you're trying to have a relaxing day with your friends. We might have just come on a bad day. There is no real driving range but a practice area much like a batting cage. Good place to practice if you have a lot of time on your hands cause everyone seemed nice and not too serious about their game. Can't say I'll be going back any time soon cause of the organization but wouldn't totally discard them.

Trenton B.

Yelp
Terrible! It's not worth playing here at all until the greens are finished! They have basically let this course go to waste. Don't waste your time going here!

Paul S.

Yelp
My son played a 9 hole tournament there. I wasn't expecting much but came away impressed with the course. The greens were nice and the layout was good, especially for kids. The super told me the greens would be much better in 2 weeks but they were already in solid condition. The range is like a batting cage but it does serve the purpose of allowing you to get loose and not much more. Lots of nice trees as well.

frank l.

Yelp
Great for twilight.. I love coming here when sometimes the range is just not enough! Great place in the 'hood to get away from everyone and play a solo round on the course! People are friendly.. green fees is cheap and not to many hazards to loose the balls! Also great place to start golfing for the ones hesitant about playing at other places like Memorial, Sweetwater etc...
