We ordered 2 Pita Shawarmas and one Chicken Shawarma fries. One Pita Shawarma was the Wagyu Beef and the other was the Chicken Shawarma.
The Wagyu was dry, overcooked and the only flavor we experienced was Cumin. Perhaps this Wagyu beef had sat in a warmer for a very long time after having been cooked, and then reheated causing it to be even worse, before placing it into the pita and served. For Wagyu, a beef with a high fat ratio to be dry, means that it had sat cooked for a very long time, and then over cooked by reheating it prior to serving. It was overly flavored with Cumin, a spice that I love, but in this case the amount overwhelmed the delicacy of the Wagyu, providing no taste other than the texture of dry overcooked meat and that of Cumin.
The chicken was even worse. It was so overcooked and dry, that it actually had both a chewy and crumbling texture at the same time, in various parts of a bite, and had little to no taste other than that of sulfur that comes from either low quality chicken and/or overcooking same. It was so dry that we couldn't even finish eating the first half of it.
Therefore, both of our Pita Shawarmas were terrible and less than edible, and certainly not anywhere near the quality or taste of the other raving reviews. Also, please note, we are middle-eastern and have eaten Shawarma, all of our lives.
One positive note was the Chicken Shawarma fries. They had the same dry, over-cooked and crumbly chicken as a topping, but the fries themselves and the Toum sauce saved the day, helping hide the flaws and making it possible to consume the less-than-edible chicken, which without the fries and the Toum sauce, remained inedible.
We placed our order at 2pm, and it appears that instead of receiving freshly slicked and cooked shawarma meats, we got the left over, dried out remnants of lunch. This isn't acceptable as we didn't buy "discounted" Shawarma, and we were expecting what other reviewers had experienced.
Unfortunately, we would not recommend Shawarma Guys to anyone, let alone anyone that is middle-eastern and knows what Shawarma is relative to quality and taste. I understand the owner is proud of his food and business, and am confident this is not the quality he wishes to serve. But, nevertheless, our review is what we experienced -- to our great disappointment.
We paid around $50, and that was a waste.
