The 34 Best Athens Restaurants - Eater

"You’ll find great food at Shedia, but it’s the great people who will keep bringing you back. The cafe-bar-restaurant occupies the ground floor of Shedia Home, an initiative that helps people struggling with homelessness. The famous Greek chef Lefteris Lazarou created the menu, but the kitchen is staffed with relative newbies (the only cooking expertise required for hire is knowing how to boil an egg). The seasonal menu utilizes organic ingredients while remaining affordable, with offerings like almond and pistachio-crusted salmon filet or marjoram-scented spaghetti with red peppers, singlino (salted pork), and minced pork. Where great coffee meets meaningful impact Shedia Home is not just a beautiful café—it’s a social project with heart. Every cup of coffee, every delicious bite supports the life-changing work of Shedia, offering dignity, employment, and opportunity to people facing homelessness. The atmosphere is warm, inclusive, and thoughtfully designed, reflecting the values of community and social responsibility. The staff are welcoming and the service is exceptional—it feels like you’re part of something bigger the moment you walk in. Whether you’re stopping by for coffee or joining a cultural event, Shedia Home is a must-visit spot in Athens where social change is brewed daily. ☕❤️ Best regards from Moldova!

Afternoon Aperol Spitz - inside seating was comfortable and a perfect escape from the heat- busy corner and nice just to chill out and watch the works go by

This place was our GO-TO breakfast in Athens! Located in a lovely corner at the city center, this is a nice cafe with kind service. We came here twice for its good coffee and delicious Greek yogurt a with granola. All the products are organic and the yogurt is full and creamy, served with muesli, bananas, pears and honey. Highly recommended!

The food is so so good and the coffee as well! I asked for a flat white with soy milk and lots of water and the staff made it just perfectly! The tabuleh salad was accurately made and the Halloumi sandwich was incredible! It was a rainy morning and the sandwich was warmed up just in the right way! So glad we took a wrong turn and bumped into this place! Thank you!

Amazing breakfast at Shedia Home! One of the best breakfasts I’ve had in Athens. The organic eggs were perfectly cooked, the Greek yogurt with fruit and granola was fresh and delicious, and the smoothies were absolutely fantastic – fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor. If you prefer something sweet in the morning, don’t miss the αυγόφετες (Greek caramelised French toast) – they’re a must-try and simply unforgettable! Great food, warm atmosphere, and a place that truly cares about quality. Highly recommended!

I stopped by with my mother for breakfast, drawn in from the street by the welcoming vibes and nice decor. I had some delicious scrambled eggs and my mother had a yogurt bowl, which she also loved. We were also invited to learn about the establishment, and were surprised and happy to learn that the Shedia is built around a social impact mission to support unhoused people in Athens. We had a lovely and enlightened conversation Antonios and Giorgos, who not only explained the mission, but made us feel very welcomed. It is clear that the staff are all passionate about the work of Shedia and the evidence of thier impact is aparent - symbolized by the art displayed around the restaurant. I am so glad to have stumbled in and absolutely love that a place creating solidarity with the unhoused exists in the city!
