11 Halal-Friendly Restaurants in the Triangle

"It’s rare for any city in America to have a Yemeni restaurant; Raleigh has two. Yemen Arab’s extensive menu runs the gamut from appetizers like sambosas and hummus with lamb to dinner platters piled high with rice, vegetables, and proteins like lamb, beef, and chicken. Close out a meal with a traditional dessert such as masoob (layered flatbread with ghee, honey, bananas, and cream) and sip on a mint lemonade." - Matt Lardie

18 Essential Restaurants in Raleigh, North Carolina

"Yemen Arab Restaurant does an excellent job of introducing diners to flavors they might not be familiar with. There are well-known Middle Eastern offerings like baba ganoush, hummus, and koftas, but also Yemeni specialties like lahem haneeth (roasted lamb in a Yemeni spice blend), zurbian dajaj (a tomatoey chicken saute), and a variety of saltahs, a Yemeni dish of vegetables and a whipped fenugreek and lamb sauce served boiling hot in a clay dish. The restaurant offers varieties with fish, chicken, and shredded lamb, and all come with fresh bread for dipping." - Matt Lardie

I visited Sheeba Restaurant (also known as Yemeni Kitchen) today and had one of the worst dining experiences in recent memory. I ordered the Lamb Mandi with a Cucumber Salad, and to my surprise, the food was completely tasteless—no flavor, no seasoning, just bland and disappointing. I was starving after a 4-hour drive from Virginia for business and drove an extra 50 miles just to try this place based on the positive reviews I found online. Unfortunately, it was absolutely not worth it. To make matters worse, they charged me $53 for this underwhelming meal. For that price, I expected something remotely enjoyable, but it felt like I paid just to be disappointed. The only reason I’m giving this place one star is because of the lady who served me—she was kind and attentive. If it weren’t for her, they wouldn’t even deserve that one star. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend this spot to anyone looking for quality Yemeni food.

My husband and I just had a wonderful experience. We have been searching for quality middle eastern food since moving back from abroad, and we specifically love Yemeni food. The food was SO amazing. I especially liked the fahsa, bread, and the fresh lemonade. The fasiolia, falafel, and masoub dessert were also very tasty. We were given an extra lamb dish to try for free. Wonderful service. We will be back..... 😁😁😁

This authentic Yemeni restaurant was amazing! Our waiter Abbas (also head waiter) went above and beyond for us! The good was so flavorful and delicious!! We ordered the Chicken Agdah and Chicken Galabah. Abbas gave us soup and tea on the house. Both really got the spot!! At the end of our meal our waiter gave us hot towels and candy before we left. Amazing customer service and food! Highly recommend!!

Yumilicious food, exceptional service!! The seltah a root vegetables dish in savory slightly tangy gravy came bubbling hot in a traditional blackened clay pot absolutely mouth watering! The mathlooth a mix of three of their breakfast items was a tad dry on its own but mix it up with the salsa side and the rich aromatic beans with mashed fried egg will warm your heart and tummy. I'd prefer they added more egg in there so the beans doesn't drown out the eggy flavour which I would have liked. Also, the menu says it's served in a clay pot but instead it came in a regular flat plate. The tandoor baked bread was a super generous size and tasted delicious on its own. It doesn't weigh your tummy down like regular pizza dough. Gabriel was absolutely top class in his service. He did everything right. Explained and suggested how we can enjoy the dishes and offered fresh mint lemonade and tea. I also ordered the yoghurt Shanina, a great chilled plain yogurt drink to counter the heat and cool our digestive system. We have been here before the change in management and name to Sheeba. So far the food is as good. Will definitely return to try out other dishes.

This was our first time at Sheeba. The food was incredibly delicious and came out so quickly. The lamb in both dishes was so tender and flavorful. We got the Sheeba sampler for two, and honestly the portion size was so large it could easily feed 4. We really enjoyed the veggie sides that came with the Lamb Haneeth. The bread was very warm and soft. We ended the dinner with tea, which spelled so fragrant and tasted even more delicious. Tea was a little sweet for my husband’s liking, but I enjoyed it. Head waiter Abbas was very kind and checked on us multiple times. Highly recommend this place for some authentic Yemeni cuisine.

First of all, service was so slow on the day we visited. So that's a bummer especially when you were hungry for some Yemeni food. Once the food is out, my whole mood change. Food looks so good and fulfilling. Everything is freshly made and the taste, you just have to try it. Even scrambled eggs are different and better than your favorite brunch spot in my opinion. Because of the spices they use, the aroma just fill up your taste buds. The restaurant is weird looking and dirty though, I don't know what it is supposed to be before, maybe a seafood boil place. Still a 3 star because I have to wait so long.15 mins to order and another 30 mins for food.

Was there with family looking to dine in but no table available to seat 5 because it was full so, we decided to take out instead. We ordered Lahem Haneeth, Mix grilled, Kofta kebab, Dajaj kabsa & Zurbian dajaj for a total of $119 which was kind of expensive. Food tasted fine with generous portions my favorite was Lahem Haneeth and Kofta kebab… where as lamb chops in mix grilled plate were burnt and tasteless also, salad boxes came with the food were almost empty for some reason. Overall it’s an average restaurant with decent food and friendly customer service.

Had the Lamb Haneeth from the Entrees. It was just decent. Typical Arabic food. That lamb with rice cost me a whopping $33. Everything is high nowadays so cannot complain that much. Did not have room temperature water. You can go there if you want. Experience was just medium.

Yelp
The food is expensive, and they have a limited menu. We came because we did not realize that this place was under new management. The Mediterranean restaurant that used to be at this location had lamb kabobs; not anymore. No taziki sauce, really? But I must say, the service was very good! The restaurant is still in its infancy, so perhaps improvements will be made. The interior is quite clean, but does not have a warm or intimate atmosphere.

Yelp
Delicious food and amazing service!! it felt like I was enjoying a home-cooked meal in Yemen! The lamb was delicate, fall off the bone with a balance of flavors, yet not overly spiced. The lentil soup was the perfect appetizer. We also enjoyed the appetizer Sharfot which was very refreshing. The Yemeni tea was the perfect way to end the meal. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We will definitely return to try other things in the menu including their home made bread.

Yelp
Don't be deceived by sign that says "opening soon". This family run restaurant is open! Parking was easy. Service was quick. Place was quiet. We ordered lamb fattah, lamb Zorbain for eating in. They each came with salad and cinnamon tea. We ordered a Seltah and tanoor bread for takeout for someone. Total was $84.72 +tip. The portions were huge. Each plate would be easily Sharable. The salad was so flavorful with the dressing and red onions and vegetables . The cinnamon tea was a nice touch after. Each of our dishes was thoughtfully constructed and spiced. No flavor issues here. The lamb Zorbain came with rice, lamb and vegetables. I like that structure and the flavor was good. There is a yemini "salsa" comprised of tomatoes and garlic that is a must do. Comes with the meal. I liked the spicing on the lamb fattah better. But I am not as into lamb and cooked bread. But the flavor was excellent. My portion alone was large it will be dinner for 2 or 3 more days. Great value. Great flavor. Love it when a restaurant is serious and focused on spicing and flavor. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We have dined twice at This very relaxed casual sit down restaurant which offers delicious food and very friendly and attentive table service! We have had great food and great service both times. Most recently our very friendly and attentive service was provided by an excellent server named Aleah!

Yelp
My husband and I go to Sheeba frequently. The food is always AMAZING/fresh and you get a lot for your money! We love when Abbas waits our table - he always has the best recommendations and friendly service. The whole experience is always very lovely. We couldn't recommend more!

Yelp
Two of us went for dinner and we got the Sheeba for Two and Hummus. Everything was absolutely delicious. I got the Adeni tea, which was also amazing! The service was truly, truly excellent. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and helpful to us first-timers at the restaurant. The hot towels and tea at the end of the meal were a lovely treat. We will be back!
