It was nice. Better than ok, but not the best it could be. This place has so much potential, it just didn't completely mesh. Warm authentic welcoming and seating staff and servers are a must for a fine dining experience, but they were ok, overall. The deviled eggs were ok, the crab cakes were delicious, the calamari was a little too salty; but would've been very good without the extra salt, the steak was perfectlt made and delicious, the veggies were well seasoned but undercooked, and the potatoes hurt our feelings 😔. The lavender lemon drop was the hit of the night, though. I may go back specifically for that drink! Soooo good! Lol. I loved the restaurant itself, the layout is different and curious and had an inviting ambiance.

This eatery was on my Wanna Go list and now I've checked ✔️ that box. My experience was mixed. I enjoyed the ambience, the service and the crab cakes. The cocktails were on par. The food tasted a little bland. Needed some umph. We chose the dinner special and returned our plates mostly full.

Our wedding day was the most beautiful and special day of our lives. Yesenia and everyone at the Sheldon Inn went above and beyond to make our day the best day ever. We were so fortunate to have toured the Sheldon Inn during one of the bridal showcases, where you can also get connected to fantastic vendors, like our incredible DJ Larry from Just Fresh Entertainment! The venue is picturesque, giving a modern rustic look mixed with a classic vineyard feel. The food and drinks are hands down some of our favorite things about this place but it’s truly the staff and everyone at Sheldon Inn that makes it the perfect wedding venue! Thank you Yesenia and Sheldon Inn for making our day so special!

A quiet anniversary dinner was very pleasant. A reservation is highly recommended on a Friday evening. My wife booked it, and when we arrived on time, we were seated within 5 minutes. Off to the eastern end of the building there is a bar, and it was packed and lively that night, but the noise wasn't overbearing. We were seated at a small booth, and the menus were personalized with an anniversary greeting! Very nice touch! The wait staff were very polite. There are demo bottles of the house wines at every table. The server explained that there's a vineyard at the back of the restaurant and the wine is made onsite. I had a glass of the house Cabernet Sauvignon, and it was delicious. My wife ordered a steak dish and I ordered something involving a quarter chicken. Tasty, both of them. I've had better and worse, but they were both good. We had desserts as well. The most memorable part of the experience, truth be told, was the price. Two of everything: appetizers, a glass of wine and a cocktail, entrees, and desserts, with great wait service, in a well appointed but unpretentious dining room, set us back $155, not counting the tip, which was deservedly 25%. Very, very nice.

Went for an intimate celebration and our first time dinning. I’m not sure how I feel but I won’t be returning or recommending. Staff all around to manager was amazing from the hostess and manager. Yes, the bread and house butter were amazing! The appetizers were better than the entree’s. The spicy pasta was high praised but it came to me very soft and broken which the chef confirmed. I unfortunately returned it for a special of the night. I was offered soup while waiting and desert on the house. Bar was great. The best service and food of the night. Atmosphere, was great. Casual attire but always best to dress up then dress down.

Google
Overall disappointing. Service was great, nice location and ambience. Food was a letdown. Calamari to start with was very heavily coated to the point where all you tasted was deep fried batter. We had the mains of chicken and the special mahi mahi, both were cooked fine but under seasoned and bland.

Google
This was a beautiful restaurant. The weather was perfect so we sat outside. The food was quite delicious as well! We had brunch and you really couldn’t go wrong. Everything that we all ordered was delicious! It was that type of restaurant where you want to try everybody else’s food because it was so amazing!

Google
The service was very good once we were seated. We had to wait 20 minutes be seated even though they were empty tables Not sure if they just didn't have servers or what the problem was. The hostess wasn't very informative of what was going on .We ended up eating in the bar. Where there were servers. We only chose that after the 20-minute wait and then finally being offered a table and a dining room. Our food took a while to come but when it came it was what we ordered It was okay. Nothing special We don't plan on going back anytime soon.

Yelp
Made Reservations for a New Year's Eve dinner and was NOT disappointed!! The atmosphere was amazing as was the energy of our server Mia and staff. They were quick, friendly, and seemed happy to see us. We were seated on the second floor which we did ask for and it was very clean and welcoming. They had a 3 course dinner with some great options. The food tasted Delicious but one side really stood out. This was the Broccolini. I'm not a huge broccoli fan but this was so good! We will definitely be back for their Holiday Dinners if they continue to offer them. I'm so Grateful for all the employees who took the time away from their families to show up and make this a beautiful experience for everyone.

Yelp
The food was mediocre! Came here to this establishment as a guest of my families and will not be ever going back. Everything was fine until we got towards the end and the waitress made a mistake with the billing. It was a large party and we split the tab between 4 payments. Instead she took one card and charged it, without collecting the rest of the payments. After, making the error she became upset, frustrated, and made inappropriate gestures with her mouth and body. At first, I was going to give her some grace especially me being a mental health therapist and with it being the holidays but she became extremely rude with my sister who was trying to assist her with the error. Instead she went and got her manager, who I saw along with other staff staring at our table as we were leaving. So, I went over and explained to the manager how his employee made the error and was very rude, and unprofessional. The manager apologized but I do believe it had a lot to do with us being African American and already racially profiling. It's so sad that we were so nice and understanding for it to be handled the way it was! People need to reevaluate their choices of working in customer service! Especially, after us spending over a $1000 dollars, please do better!! We will never be back and I will be following up at a higher level! This really ruined our evening of simply celebrating a loved one's 50th Birthday!

Yelp
Wow! The amount of times I have driven past this gem on Grant Line... countless. Came here to celebrate my parent's 30th anniversary. They had their names on a printed menu for our table to recognize their anniversary, took a complementary picture and put it in a cute frame. Nice touch! More of a fancier vibe (they give you warm hand towels at the end of your dinner). The bar area is more causal for sure. Definitely a spot to come if you're celebrating a special occasion. Service was really great overall. Food was amazing. We got the ribeye, the salmon, and the fried chicken (not on the regular menu it's the Tuesday special), calamari to start, and finished with a slice of cheesecake. Everything was flavorful and came out hot. The mashed potatoes had a bacon gravy that was to die for. Ribeye was cooked a perfect medium. The green beans were crunchy and garlicky. If you're looking to treat yourself or loved ones, check out the Sheldon Inn!

Yelp
We enjoyed an excellent Sunday brunch here a couple months ago. Food was delicious! My wife had the crab cakes Benedict, her mother the French toast and fried chicken, and I the chuck burger, substitute real bacon for the bacon jam. Everything was quite tasty and extremely satisfying. Service was good. Ambiance was wonderful, an elegant and stylishly decorated restaurant.

Yelp
I love this place. Still an hidden gem in my eyes, but we love coming here for special occasions. They really go out of their way to acknowledge the special event by personalizing the top of the menu (see photo). We wanted something a little more casual so we reserved the bar. As always, the food was fantastic. burger was nicely done and the steak was delicious and cooked as requested. We also had the calamari & zucchini appetizer which was a great way to start the meal. The service was friendly and Ryan the bartender was attentive and engaging. All in all, one of the great hidden gems in the greater Sacramento area.

Yelp
I recently celebrated my birthday here and can highly recommend it for food, ambiance and events. As I assumed it would be a warm evening i reserved a table for 10 outdoors. Of course a few people weren't able to make it so it ended up being 7 of us. I had dropped off my cake , flowers, candles balloons and brought two bottles of champagne for corkage . Everything looked lovely when we arrived however I wish they had a table cloth on the black iron table. The service was polite and professional and the hostess was super sweet. Most importantly the food was delicious and everyone seemed pleased with their food. I have a tough crowd to please. My chimicurri flank steak was delicious. I am surprised that living in Elk Grove all of these years I am not sure why I had never eaten here before? However after such a grear experience and delicious food I will definitely return.

Yelp
Came here with my family, we sat outside and it was slightly hot, not too bad as they had misters. It was just before sunset and the view was gorgeous. The mosquitoes were unforgiving and so were the flies. The service was subpar. As we ordered there were things forgotten and reminded of more than once. For starters we got crab cakes -- nothing great, I've had better. My father and I ordered prime rib, my son ordered salmon and my sister had gotten the ribeye steak. I asked for au jus as it seemed like there had not been any dressing on the prime rib. The waitress asked if the au jus on my prime rib wasn't enough, so I was surprised there was any at all. When she came back with the au jus, the flavor was not what I expected. Not bad but not great. My father agreed. My son did not like the salmon, but my sister said the steak wasn't bad at all. There was nothing that really amazed us. My father did not like the service and although I did not think it was that bad overall, we will most likely not be coming back. My sister had also left her purse there outside, the next day the restaurant was closed and she still found it outside hanging on the chair.

Yelp
The food is delicious, the grounds are very pretty, and the service was wonderful. We had a large party for my mom's birthday. They personalized the menu for us, took great care of the kids, and our waitress was awesome about making sure everyone had what they needed. We also love that it's owned by a local family. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Incredible place to celebrate with friends! We had 7:15pm reservation. Seated in the patio. Despite day temp being 97 degrees, it was the perfect setting as sun set and slight breeze came in. You can bring your own wine, corkage $25. The waitress suggested the fried Brussels sprouts appetizer. It was delicious, nice and crispy. One of our friends doesn't usually like Brussels sprouts, but enjoyed this dish. Next we split the heirloom tomatoes salad with baby basil and balsamic reduction. Hard to not choose heirloom tomatoes in the summer. Two of my friends order the special, filet mignon skewers. Two 3oz skewers with mashed potatoes and asparagus. One substituted green beens instead. I had the Nimon Ranch double cut pork chop. It was tender and juicy. Highly recommend. The other entree was beef stroganoff. Noodles had the perfect texture. After dinner, instead of a dessert menu, a beautiful tray of desserts was presented. Love the presentation. Besides the personalized menus, a young lady also came by to take a group picture and printed three copies for each of the birthday guests. At the very end, the waitress brought pomegranate sparking wine to toast. I cannot say enough about the phenomenal service, the food, and the ambiance. We stayed past closing time, but could've stayed longer.

Yelp
Always a go to when I am not sure where I want to go for brunch in Elk Grove. The service is always amazing and food is flavorful and filling. Would highly recommend. Be sure to make a reservation, they do fill up fast!

Yelp
So it has been over four years since my last review and I wanted to provide an update. To be up front, I would consider myself to be a regular at Sheldon Inn so that may bias my opinion a bit. With that said, I'm going to be as honest as I can be about my experiences. When I started going to Sheldon Inn, it had a different vibe about it than I was previously used to, and I wasn't sure if it was going to be a place I'd enjoy hanging out at. However, what I have found after four plus years of going there is that it an all around great place, and here's why I feel that way. 1. Staff: This is where Sheldon Inn in my opinion is different than any other bar/restaurant I've been to. I have found pretty much every single person who works there, past or present, to have been really amazing people. I am treated far better than I have ever deserved, and even after having made some mistakes in judgement there being hitched to a barstool maybe a little too long, I have always been made to feel welcome, appreciated, and respected. Aron, who has been the manager since my first time there is a great guy. I have frequented other restaurants just as much as Sheldon, but never have I been made to feel more appreciated. The bartenders, such as Mia, John, Ryan, and James are all great. Attentive, funny, and dedicated to their craft. I'm often in awe of the juggling and running they need to do, because I certainly couldn't do what they do. The wait staff is always approachable, and friendly towards me. I have become friends with many of the employees there, and that is such a departure from other places I've been that I felt it's worth mentioning. To me, this is the thing that sets Sheldon apart. Even the owners are always cordial towards me, not that I feel I deserve it. 2. Ambiance: I think Sheldon offers a good mix of dining or as of recently, happy hour experiences. You can sit inside for a more formal setting, hang out in the bar area (bar top and tables) for a more casual night, you can sit outside on the patio next to a very nice venue, enjoy live concerts/events, or sit upstairs in a more "club" type atmosphere. They offer a lot of variety, and I think many people who have not been there much don't realize that. If I had a critique, I wish they had a bit more bar top space since that always seems to be jam packed. I must also commend the other patrons - lots of great people go there. I also commend the owners for taking such great care of not only the building, but the entire property. It's truly a very nice place to be, and from my first visit to today, I'm always seeing improvements across the board. I can say that's often not the case with other restaurants, and I commend their dedication to not only preserving such a staple of the community, but for continuing to make it better. It's an old historic building, but it's extremely well maintained. 3. Food/Drinks: Let's face it, we're all going out to a bar/restaurant to indulge a bit, enjoy an evening with friends, relax with a nice cocktail, or celebrate an event. I have found the food at Sheldon to largely be good. The drinks are always great, and the service that comes along with everything for me, has always been top notch. When I say top notch, I mean like it would be hard for any place to be better than what I've experienced. They also have an ever-evolving wine selection, and unfortunately for my wallet, I've become quite a wine snob because of this place. If I had some constructive feedback, it would be this. For us regulars, I do wish there was a bit more variety on the menu, and a little less focus on seafood and steak specials. A nice chicken dish (besides fried) or something like a chicken club sandwich would go a long way for me, and while there's an occasional special that hits the mark, not being a seafood guy, or someone who wants to eat red meat all the time, I can struggle sometimes to find something for a dinner entree. That's not their fault, it's mine, because I'm there too often. :) When it comes to happy hour and apps, I have found their current September 2025 menu to be great. The shishito peppers are amazing. The chicken satay is always very tasty. I really enjoy the seasonal heirloom salad - super fresh tasting and oozes quality. 4. Conclusion: Is Shelson Inn the only place I frequent? No, it is not, but it is by far the #1 on my list of places in the Elk Grove area. It has the perfect combination for me, and based on how many other regulars I see there, I know I am not alone. The ironic thing is, I drove by this place for many, many years, and never tried it until I had a reason to one day. After that, I was hooked. Many thanks to everyone there who makes my every visit there, a memorable one. If you're on the fence, please try it, you might just like it! I've seen many first timers there become frequent fliers, and I truly believe in supporting local businesses over big commercial chains.

Yelp
Fabulous! Great service, everyone hustles but they are quiet and unobtrusive. The food is excellent-- made with fresh, high quality ingredients. It was my friend's birthday. They made it extra special with the customized menu with her name on it, then they took our picture and put it in a little frame with a sweet message on it. This would be a great place for a date night, a celebration or even solo dining.

Yelp
I celebrated my Birthday with some friends in Nov 2021 and had an exceptional experience! The food is consistently delicious, and I've enjoyed multiple brunches and dinners here. For special occasions, reserve ahead and notify staff, they'll create personalized menus with your name on top. Amazing service! Highly recommended for: - Family-friendly atmosphere - Stunning outdoor setting - Elegant indoor dining There's a winery next door too! 5 stars

Yelp
Great friendly service and ambiance!! Food was fantastic as well. Started with the crab cakes then moved on to strawberry burrata salad. Both very tasty Mains consisted of skirt steak and NY steaks. Both cooked to perfection!!! Topped it off with the coconut key lime pie/tart. YUMMY!!! Thanks for a nice Father's Day dinner

Yelp
Whew another great date night! My hubby and I came to dinner with our friends for his birthday. We had the teriyaki lettuce cups as an appetizer. I had the berry bliss as a cocktail and blackened cod for my entree. I shared the bread budding for dessert and it was perfect warmed up. The service was nothing but amazing. I can't wait to come back again.

Yelp
I had known of Sheldon Inn for a while, but never tried it till tonight. The star of the show tonight was the fried calamari with zucchini. The calamari was lightly fried, seasoned well, and you get a pretty good sized portion. I'm glad they used real squid and not cuttlefish, and you can taste the difference. The gem salad was the second star. The candied bacon, dressing, and onions all worked in harmony. For entrees, we got the rib eye and pork chop. Rib eye was fine, nothing really special. I preferred the mashed potatoes over the fingerlings that came with the steak. The pork chop was decent. The sauce was good and not dry. I feel like the seasoning doesn't really penetrate the food. Service was good and staff were friendly. We sat on the second floor. It as pretty dark. I would go back.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times and it has always been on point with service and food. Today's brunch was amazing. I wasn't a huge fan of the deviled eggs because of the mustard but my table partners gobbled them up. The blueberry bread pudding was so yummy. The burger and fries with the bacon jam compote hit the spot. We came here for a birthday and they take a little photo which is nice and print the name on the menu. We ordered these 5 dishes and a couple alcoholic beverages and the price was under 150 which is not bad. Indoor seating is a bit fancier. Outdoor is more chill and pleasant with a beautiful view. I have been upstairs for the velvet martini but that's a separate review.

Yelp
Came in on Friday 8-22. Had a great experience! We were kindly greeted at the door, checked in for our reservation, then headed to the bar. Great knowledgeable bar staff helped my wife pick a great wine. We sat down for dinner with reservations for 4. We let them know ahead of time that we would be using the dinner for 2 special for both couples. Excellent waiter!!! Super nice and helpful. Filets were super tender and flavorful as well as the lobster tails. The sides, soups, salads also were all Excellent. We will definitely return. Thank you for a great evening!

Yelp
Me and my wife went out with some family friends to celebrate my friends birthday. When we arrived to the restaurant we were greeted by staff. I started off with the New York sour drink. The drink was refreshing and very flavorful. We ordered the chicken lettuce wrap. The lettuce wraps were cooked to perfection and the chicken was delicious. I ordered the filet mignon Portuguese beef skewers with kale, mushrooms, black garlic mashed potatoes. The skewers were phenomenal and very tasty and the mashed potatoes were delicious. The customer service was great and the ambiance is customer service friendly.

Yelp
Food: SUPERB. Everything was cooked perfectly and seasoned extremely well. I have no complaints about the appetizers or entrees. The dessert was delicious, however, I think the creme brûlée could've been fresher. Service: Amazing. Our server was attentive and he was kind. (He was an Asian man, I forgot his name!) but he deserves recognition for going above and beyond in his service. He went over specials, made recommendations for things we can switch out, and all in all, added positivity to our experience, which led to the 5 stars. Ambiance: super cute establishment. I absolutely loved the decor and how classy it is inside. What a beautiful place for a date night, celebration, or friends get together. I can't wait to return!

Yelp
Group of four celebrating a retirement. The hostess and our server mentioned it a couple of times, and they gifted us with a picture of the party. Busy Saturday night, but we never felt rushed. Were seated in the bar and because it was the holidays they were packed. The waiter was incredibly attentive. We were there 3 1/2 hours. Started with drinks and everyone was pleased. My lemon drop was on point. We moved onto appetizers - - deviled eggs and the brussels sprouts. The deviled eggs were good. Nothing really special, but good. But the brussels sprouts, terrific!! Next came soup and or salad. Caesar, salad was nothing real inventive, but there's not a whole lot of leeway to be creative with that. But the Portuguese bean soup was outstanding. Wonderful flavor. Then for the main course. Two salmons, steak, and the swordfish. I can't speak for the salmon or beef because I didn't try it, but my swordfish was Truly probably the best I've ever had. And I've lived a very long time and grew up in southern California with a dad who was into deep-sea diving. Grew up with swordfish. This was so good. Perfectly cooked. Moist. I know it sounds weird, but it's actually one of those things that you could be addicted to. Then dessert... one apple pie, kind of thing and the other berry cobbler. I can't speak for the Apple dessert, but the berry cobbler was truly really very tasty. The staff couldn't have been nicer, and even though they were crowded, we never felt rushed. I've been here twice before in my 30 years in Elk Grove and they have been good experiences. But this was so nice and so special. Even sitting in the bar, which has a little less ambience than the main dining room, we had a great time. The other three in the party had never been there, and all mentioned wanting to return. A special place and a special experience. And some incredibly memorable swordfish...

Yelp
A white tablecloth fine dining establishment in Elk Grove? (technically Wilton) Absolutely! Sheldon Inn Restaurant and Bar is located in a beautiful older building, which offers them a variety of venues to provide inspired menu selections, delivered with outstanding service with attention to detail. My wife and I decided to share our anniversary dinner at Sheldon Inn, and their well-deserved reputation did not disappoint. They even provided us with a personalized printed menu for the evening, with an anniversary wish included! My wife had the macadamia nut encrusted halibut and I had the pork chop, and both were outstanding. The bar is also a high point of the dining experience. They have a pretty good cocktail list of signature drinks as well as the classics. I had a top-notch old fashioned, and they put together a sweeter cocktail for my wife, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, can't say enough good things about Sheldon Inn. It's great to have a fine dining option closer to home and we'll definitely be back!

Yelp
We made reservations for a Friday dinner to check out Sheldon Inn during the Elk Grove Restaurant week. Service was wonderful and the food was great. A few things to note: 1. If you're coming from the west on Grant Line Road, you'll have to make a u-turn at the light to get into the parking lot. Google maps appears to be outdated in that you can't just make a left into the neighboring lot since they are no longer connected. 2. The restaurant week menu on the Sheldon Inn website is also outdated. It's a shame since there were more options for the main meal. But on the plus side, dessert is now included with the soup instead of a starter. We were seated in a random table in the middle of all the booths behind the hostess table. Maybe this isn't normal since there was a large party at the table behind us. It felt weird at first especially since I had to angle my chair to not hit the support beam right behind it, but eventually I got used to it. Would probably request a different table next time, maybe check out seating on the second floor if there are tables up there. We noticed staff bringing food up the elevator. The restaurant week menu had two options for the soup and main entree, and chocolate mousse for dessert for $45 a person. We tried one of each soup and entree. The Portuguese soup is very savory and hearty, full of red beans with a little bit of kale and protein. If you like minestrone, you will like this. The soup of the day was clam chowder. Very rich and creamy. Our favorite of the soups. The risotto was really light but filling at the same time with pleasant notes of citrus. It came topped with some microgreens and contained some small pieces of protein. The braised short rib was more hearty. The beef was tender and well seasoned and it came with roasted carrots and mashed potatoes. This dish slightly beat out the other dish in flavor, but ultimately I think it depends on what you're craving. The dessert was decent. Chocolate mousse, whipped cream, and berries. Nothing too fancy but it was tasty enough. I would definitely come back to try other menu items.

Yelp
Went on a date night/birthday dinner with my wife here over the weekend. The restaurant is designed nicely, staff was awesome and attentive. My only draw back was the food, while it was good, I don't think it was anything special. Calamari was good, wedge salad was a wedge salad, and steak, green beans, and potatoes wedges was meh. Basic steak. The menu overall was basic, they could use some options like lobsters to go with the steak to make it more upscale. Overall good meal, and staff was awesome. The food just bored me. Menu was boring too. Drink menu could use updating as well.

Yelp
I've been to Sheldon Inn multiple times and it's always great!! I tried the fried chicken tonight (Tuesday's special) and it was the best I have ever had!!! Paired with a lavender lemon drop- perfection!!

Yelp
First time visit for our party of 5, arrived early and had a drink at the bar. Personal opinion here....draft beer should be on tap, not beers poured out of the can/bottle. Nice ambiance, wide tall booth on the second floor. Ordered for the first time ever, the cauliflower steak which was very tasty. My appetizer bean soup was also very good. Pork chop was fairly tender and the chuck burger was good but... the meat was 1" thick alone and overall way too thick so it had to be eaten with knife and fork. Personally speaking, a hamburger is meant to be eaten by 'hand' so please chef, thin the patty. Also the tiny thin fries should be much thicker. The service was only average, a little slow to our liking. For these higher priced restaurants, staff ratio to tables should be increased.

Yelp
Went here for brunch last week for my friend's birthday and it was awesome! Service was on point. I got the ribeye steak, and it was very tasty. Loved the outdoor vibes too. They also got a winery but we were way too full to check it out. Definitely recommend this spot for brunch especially if you want sit outside!

Janice M.

Yelp
My husband and I went there Friday 12/12/2025 to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The food was delicious! My husband had the Ribeye steak and I had the grilled Salmon. Both dishes were scrumptious. Our waiter Ron and staff were great! We will definitely go back.

Yelp
Gave 4 stars. Would have been 3 but the receptionist or the girl at the entrance was nice to accommodate my required the night AFTER. Came to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday on Friday. A gf ordered the calamari and it tasted burnt like it was fried in almost old rancid oil. Another gf ordered the Caesar salad. The dressing was tasteless. And we LOVE Caesar salads. My fettuccini pasta was good but overly sour. Perhaps maybe cut down on the amount of capers used? But the scallops was cooked to perfection as well was the prawns. Daughter ordered her first lavender lemon drop and they ran out of martini glasses so it was served in a regular glass. I think drinks should be served in the type of glass meant to be served. I was bummed her first alcoholic drink was not served in its appropriate glass. Daughter ordered the soup of the day...clam chowder which she devoured so that was a plus. Her 6 oz special of the night was ordered medium rare but came out medium well. Waitress stated the old fashions were served on big cube of ice. But they ran out and perhaps was not made aware so the men at my table was served old fashions with a couple pieces of ice. Perhaps the bar needs to communicate with the waitresses because when the waitress is telling us what's on the menu or how the drinks are served, should be consistent with what is being told to us. It was my daughter's 21st and I didn't want to make a stink of something so little...although misleading. I understand Friday nights can be busy but there should be plenty of proper glasses for certain drinks and ice for specific drinks as well. Also, we sat at maybe the largest patio table they had for 9. One lamp isn't enough to illuminate the table. No one wants to eat their food in the dark. We had to take another lamp from a vacant table and asked for another one. So we ended up having three lamps and that was barely enough lighting. As previously stated, I would have given 3 stars but I forgot the menu with my daughter's birthday on it and our group picture. I called the next day and the lady who picked up my call said nothing was turned in and was probably thrown away but said I could come in and she can have the picture reprinted. Which was nice. I spent over $700 on dinner and not sure if I, or any of my gfs who was there that night, would return again.

Yelp
February 22, 2024 Sheldon Inn never disappoints. We always have a good time here, and the food is wonderful. We are club members of the Adkins Winery, and as such, we accrue points that we can use at Sheldon Inn for a pre fixe meal and wine pairing. Always a pleasure. Once seated, we were given a sparkling Viognier, and the Pre Fixe Menu describing our meal for the night. We started with a crab cake with pickled fresno chiles and cajun remoulade that went very well with our Viognier. It was one of the best crab cakes I've ever had. Next, we were served a Caesar salad that was paired with a glass of Chardonnay. The final course was a stuffed chicken breast that was almond crusted and stuffed with cherries and apricots with a port wine cream sauce, served with herbed mashed potatoes, green beans, and a glass of Petite Verdot. The restaurant has a nice cozy atmosphere, and the service is friendly. Love this place.

Yelp
This is a nice little restaurant in the countryside. I have been here a few time's and each time it was very nice. I took off two stars because of the food not because of service. Staff here are very nice and always go far and beyond to provide good service. I recently ordered lamb and it was a very small portion for what I paid for. Not only the portion but the presentation was not too appealing. As you can see in the picture it's two small lamb with a beige color mash potato. I think the mash had some flavoring which made it that color. The asparagus lay flat and seemed a little overcooked. I understand this is an upscale restaurant and typically the portion sizes are small but I think it was too small for a dish that costs $54. The lamb had good flavor and was cooked nicely. I would try other things but wouldn't get the lamb again.

Yelp
Terrible atmosphere and poor food quality. Service and ownership was extremely poor and the owners seem to think they are better than everyone that dines in their restaurant. I would recommend choosing anywhere else to spend your money if you are in the area.

Yelp
Another EG Gem. Didn't expect to find a great spot in this part of Elk Grove but excited nonetheless! We had just visited Adkins Vineyard the day before and this place was highly recommended by some of the other patrons. We had always planned on going but its location on the rural part of EG made it tough. Getting into the lot can be a little bit difficult as it can be confused with the shops next to it but this was definitely a great place for brunch. A nice clean and well appointed interior with a staff that was dressed like we were at a 4 star restaurant. They were extremely professional and atmosphere was really chill. The Chicken and French toast was recommended and it really blew me away. Crispy well seasoned and surpassingly the bone was removed from the breast. Along with it came a French toast fruit and a great side of gravy and syrup. Honestly one of my new favorites. I still consider it under the chicken and waffles category but definitely don't sleep on it. Also tried their version of a screwdriver mule and really enjoyed. Defintely worth checking out, and don't forget to set up a registration!

Yelp
Wow, nestled in the heart of down town Elk Grove, I never would expected such a fine dining experience. We were gifted a gift card to this place, and decided to try it during our anniversary. The accommodation of this place was over the top. Their menus stated "happy anniversary", and they also took a photo for you to remember your special time at their location. Our server Sean was very attentive to our needs, and explained the menu in depth when we had questions. After ordering, their food did that a good minute for it to come out but once it did-everything was delicious. They do not have a paper menu for their dessert, but actually made desserts as their menu. Talk about good marketing, they make you eat with your eyes and entice you more. Sold us, we were suckers for it and ordered dessert. We enjoyed our visit at Sheldon inn! We can't wait to try their brunch.

Yelp
Had an early Valentine's date at this place we found online. I never knew how poppin Grant Line could be! The restaurant itself is cozy and smaller than expected. On the left, it was the Sheldon Restaurant and then on the right was the bar. Our table was right in the middle of the restaurant area, our server James came and greeted us right away and to let us know the specials. We ordered a Caesar salad, NY Special and stuffed chicken. Caesar salad was good, I would say the only thing that bothered me was how the lettuce was so big! It wasn't bite size friendly. The NY special was great! I think they massaged the cow and did everything because it was so tender!! Juicy and delicious, highly recommend. The stuffed chicken was sweet and stuffed with apricots (?) everything was very fulfilling!

Yelp
We had Sunday brunch here. I ordered Frittata and it was so bland and tasteless that I could not eat it. My husband had the crab Benedict and he quickly stopped eating because the crab tasted funny and was slimy. Sure enough he wound up with food poisoning. The service was not so great. We arrived 10 minutes before another customer and they were served their meal before us. When I brought this to the attention of our server she made up an excuse that we had our appetizer which was not true as we ordered the bread pudding which was served before our meal. Very fake platitudes of smiles and service. Nice looking place - sadly poor dining experience.

Yelp
This is our second visit to the Sheldon Inn and much like last time the food was delicious and well executed. I would describe the menu type as elevated, "comfort classics." My husband loved his beef stroganoff and my father-in-law raved about his Niman Ranch pork chop. I found my filet mignon to be perfectly cooked and the onion bordelaise to be on point; however, the fingerling potatoes were quite undercooked and I ended up just leaving them on my plate after taking one bite. I would definitely recommend starting with one of their signature cocktails and the crab cake appetizer. Both were generous portions and the crab cakes may be one of the best I've eaten in recent memory Kudos also go out to our server, Gino, who balanced attentiveness and hospitality without being intrusive or overbearing. The only point of improvement I would suggest is regarding the front end staff. We had one elderly, disabled guest with us. We arrived on time and the table was open (in fact, it was early enough that the restaurant was quite empty), it appeared that the perhaps the server had not arrived yet as the hostess told us she would seat us "shortly." The two hostesses focused on wiping menus and chatting amongst themselves and passerbys; whereas, good form would be to notice that one of our guests was struggling immensely to stand with her cane and wait, and offer to seat her at the table and allow her to wait there. A quick refresher course in observation and hospitality may be needed on this front. Overall, we would recommend the Sheldon Inn for special occasion dining, a date night, or simply a nice meal out. Definitely worth the drive out to Elk Grove.

Yelp
The Sheldon inn is everything you hope for in a dinner house. Always delicious, and seating lends itself to comfortable ambiance. Where to start ? How about our amazing server Nideh! She gave service above the normal high bar which is Sheldon Inn. Very attentive and asked all the right questions. My daughter is vegan, I am not. Nideh confirmed vegan and not vegetarian and with the aid of the chef, put together a delicious vegan plate. We love that we can enjoy a meal together without compromising our individual tastes. Kudos to Sheldon Inn for accommodating with class. As always the plates were delicious, and service was above and beyond most other local restaurants. Dinner was delicious and dessert was boxed to go!

Yelp
Overall disappointing. Service was great, great location and ambience. Food was a letdown. Calamari to start with was very heavily coated to the point where all you tasted was deep fried batter. We had the mains of chicken and the special mahi mahi, both were cooked fine but under seasoned and bland.

Yelp
Dropped into this place for the first time and the food was excellent! We had the lavender martini and berry bliss cocktails. Both were delish. We also ordered the skirt steak, burger and chocolate bomb for dessert. Everything was AMAZING! WE WILL BE BACK!

Yelp
We had a cousins nights and ate outdoor. It was so beautiful outside and the staff were funny and friendly. We really enjoyed ourselves here. I had a shrimp linguine and I have to say it was honestly one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. And love this place for groups. I loved the atmosphere. The drinks were delish as well. Highly recommend for a couples night or a group setting.

Yelp
I have been going to this restaurant for several years. Never been disappointed. You should definitely try it out.
