The best dinner we had during our entire stay at Mammoth! Food and drink were so, so good here and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite. I am happy we decided to go out to dinner in the Village area on our last night of the trip.
We walked into Shelter Distilling on a recommendation from a friend, and it was packed. We got super lucky snagging high top seats for 4 as a group just walked out as we walked in (perfect)! It is somewhat small plates style, great for sharing. There are self serve water stations.
My husband and I shared:
- Poblano Artichoke Dip; So warm and melty and cheesy and rich. Comes with pita bread triangles for piling onto.
- Caesar Salad, add Ahi Tuna; Not a combination I would have thought of necessarily, but this was great! And much, much larger than I was expecting. I liked that this had a variety of greens, as opposed to just one lettuce.
- Crispy Confit Pork Belly Taco; Amazing!! Great light char on the pork belly and so tender and flavorful.
- Harissa Shrimp Taco; Loved this one's corn tortilla! And the sriracha lime aioli
- Spicy Chicken Fresco Taco; The fresh pico on this one added a nice tang and brightness.
- Philly Gordito Steak Taco; This one kind of tasted like a cheeseburger in taco form!
Every single thing was delicious. But of the tacos, I'd say the pork belly one was the standout. I also tried the Guava Sour drink with tequila, lime, and egg white, and it was beautifully presented, refreshing, tasty, and decently boozy! It was more lime forward than guava forward though.
It is expensive though, so just be aware of that! Two drinks, four tacos, a salad, and a dip ran us ~$120. Still worth it! (And vacation money is different than regular money right?!)
Ambiance feels casual upscale (if that makes any sense at all). It's approachable but has a sophisticated (and dimly lit) vibe at the same time. The dimmer lights explains my terrible food pics :).
