I had dinner at Sherkaan with my husband and some friends over the Fourth of July weekend when we were doing a bit of roadtrip through Connecticut and stopped in New Haven for a night. With its street food concept and large menu, it was a really fun meal for sharing with friends!
We shared a bunch of dishes: chili gobi (marinated cauliflower, onion, sweet chili soy sauce, red bell pepper); pani puri (puri shells, chickpeas, spiced potato, onion, cilantro, sev, and chili mint water - or you can ask for tamarind water); okra fries (fried matchstick okra, chaat masala, lemon, and maggi ketchup); pav bhaji (toasted pav buns, vegetable curry, onion, and lime); chicken curry (marinated and braised chicken thigh, caramelized onion gravy, tomato, and basmati rice); paneer tikka (thick-sliced paneer marinated in spiced yogurt and tandoor roasted, red bell pepper, onion, lime, and green chutney); garlic and cheese naan; and gulab jamun (with grapefruit, rose syrup, and crushed pistachios). Overall, the food was very good - I enjoyed every dish!
They also have a great variety of drinks - cocktails, mocktails, beer, and wine! I had their Count to Ten (tequila blanco, passionfruit, mango and rosemary shrub, dry curacao, and lime), which I really enjoyed. Then I had another cocktail (can't remember the name) - another great cocktail.
We sat outside - they have a great patio that is a little quiet - it feels like you're right in the heart of campus, just by the campus bookstore. But the inside of the restaurant is very cool, too. Fun vibes inside and outside. The service was good as well.
Overall, it was a delicious and fun dinner. I'd happily eat there again.
