"Once a Buckman food cart, Sherpa Kitchen has quietly been steaming up Nepalese momos since November 2017, neatly wrapping dumplings filled with pork, beef, or a vegetarian mix. These days, you can find them within the Zed, the Lents complex home to Zoiglhaus Brewing Company and Pah! Dumplings arrive with a traditional spicy dipping sauce called achar; for an extra warming combination, add a cup of daal." - Thom Hilton, Seiji Nanbu, Eater Staff

"Previously found next to inner Southeast’s sadly departed Base Camp Brewing, Sherpa Kitchen has found a new home in Lents’s premier food hall, The Zed. The venue may have changed, but the momos have not. Visitors won’t regret skipping the thukpa noodle dishes in favor of delicate steamed momos or nuanced dal bhat. Imbibers will find momos pair nicely with brews from Zoiglhaus or cocktails from the Zephyr Lounge, both conveniently housed within the food hall." - Nathan Williams

Ok first experience, maybe I should've ordered differently. I got the veggie Momo's, which were good but not earth shattering. I think my expectations were too high, and/or ordered beef or chicken instead. I had been snacking/drinking all day so was wanting something light and easy. The sauce was good and has me excited about their other dishes. The salad was well dressed too. It took me awhile to find it in this maze of a beer hall.

Google
Vegetarian Food review. Been there twice and loved it both times. The vegetarian moms are delicious. Also try the vegetarian rice bowl with stir fry veggies and lentils. Last time I also got the vegetarian noodles but the top 2 are my fav. Their Chilli sauce is delicious beyond belief and they sell it by the bottle. So if spice is your jam you are in for a treat with that sauce. Tell me what you think. Tsomo and her husband truly cook from their heart and it reflects in the food. Can’t wait to go back.

Google
I ordered 6 pieces of chicken momo. The dumplings were not to the expectation. The outer skin layer was a little too thick and was not chewy or soft . The momo filling was okay-ish and lacked flavor.

Google
This place has hands down the best tasting Nepalese food I've had in PDX. The portions are generous, the price is great. I always bring friends and family from out of town to experience Sherpa Kitchen and the Zed. The staff/owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely would recommend the momos and the chili chicken.

Google
Visited for dumpling week. In addition to dumpling also ordered chicken rice bowl. Dumplings were filled with the filling, well cooked, and the sauce they were served in with delicious. Chicken rice bowl was a good size portion and delicious. Friendly staff. Order at counter and beeper let's you know when to pick up. Parking lot next door but also street parking available. Plenty of indoor seating available.

Google
One of best momo spot in Portland. Great customer service. They have proper plates and bowl for momo and Choumein. Choumein is rich in vegitables and meat, while momo is big as well as juicy. The sauce that comes with momo is beautiful gold color with hints of traditional Nepalese spices. The hot sauce is even better, with its smell overpowering the hotness. You can take food inside the pub and tent. Space is pet friendly and has supply of cold water. I would highly recommend this place for anyome wanting to taste good momo in portland. For me 1 plate is enough. As momo comes with green salad, it looks healthy as well. Both beef and veg momo are good.

Google
Super flavorful and generous portions. Super friendly and sweet owners! We talked about Nepal because I studied there and they were delighted. Small menu but they’ll customize things for you easily.

I have been waiting so long to try some great Nepali/Tibetan cuisine! And this hits the SPOT!!! My comfort place!! Gotta try chips chilly!! And my fav Chilly MoMo

Mangala G.

Yelp
It's a really nice food spot. Loads of place for kids and adults to unkind. The chutney that come with their momos are amazing. They even made my mom drool.

Jason E.

Yelp
Oh my goodness this was so good. I ordered the eight piece momo, half pork and half chicken. Dear lord it was all so good. I'll definitely be back!

Natalee M.

Yelp
I was able to try their dumpling week special this last week and boy was that DELICIOUS!!! The momos were so flavorful and tender in this beautiful sauce. The only thing I could have asked for was more of that fabulous sauce!! I will definitely be back to try more of their dishes

Yelp
Sherpa Kitchen was stop number four for us on our dumpling week 2020 crawl. $7 got us a plate of 6 fresh hot beef momos, accompanied by a sauce and green salad. They're very similar to Chinese jiao zi or Japanese boiled gyoza I used to make at home with family. Since Sherpa Kitchen is a truck outside of Base Camp, they gave us a buzzer so that we could sit inside and wait with a beer. We got a lager to go with our momos, which was the perfect combination. The dumplings had a nice thick chewy skin, with very juicy meat/soup inside. It kind of reminded me of Xiao long bao but less greasy. We basically inhaled our dumplings and decided we'd need to come back.

Dixe S.

Yelp
Authentic and delicious Nepalese food! Love the basmati fried rice and the noodle dishes are amazing. I'm not normally a wing person, but those are pretty spot on as well. Really nice people running this spot; tidy and efficient. The space is fantastic too with lots of options for seating, good ambiance. Both a cocktail bar and the Zoiglehaus brewery. So happy to have this nearby!

Juliet M.

Yelp
I am always so impressed with the deliciousness of this food. Tried something new and loved it even more! If you're not going, you're missing out

Yelp
In the ZED building. Warm, welcoming atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Everything was clean and shiny. Had 3 orders of momos which came with salad and COMPLIMENTARY(alleluia) chai. The dough was a perfect texture and the pork, chicken, or beef fillings were delicious. I've never had momos before, so this place set the bar pretty high for future momo meals. The orange dipping sauce complimented without overpowering the momos. So go take a moment to momo. Don't forget to check out the beautiful illuminated photo of Chomolungma behind the counter.

Laura Y.

Yelp
My daughter is obsessed with the pork momos (dumplings). She asks to come here - no joke - every week! I usually get the noodles and they're delicious. We've ordered almost everything here and love it all.

Dan R.

Yelp
Let's focus on the momos--good flavors, nice fresh dough. Friendly foks behind the counter, but seemed to take a while to get served, though no one else was there. Price of $10.50 a little high, though the side salad was tasty, and the sauce had a little heat to it. Zed is an odd, cavernous place. Nice that Zoiglhaus is there with it's well-crafted beer. But the sherpa kitchen experience a little disappointing. Excellent dumplings & pot stickers can be had just a mile away, made in-house at Chinese Delicacy.

Jon F.

Yelp
Super tasty take out and dine in. REALLY clean nice little kitchen. I especially enjoyed talking with the fantastic friendly owners while I waited less than 5 minutes for my take out order. This place is super double duper awesome. Support small business and leave a good review if you like it . I am telling all my friends how great it is and plan to encourage them to visit. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would.

Tee C.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town. Was craving home cooked Tibetan food. Got vegan momos fried and steamed. It was super yummy with the hot sauce. We also got veggie chow mein made extra spicy and it was very good. The family that owns this is super sweet. Hope to be back one day!

Feng H.

Yelp
This place is great. Me and a friend both ordered a momo plate and a chow mein. The woman working was friendly and patient with us. The food came out quickly, and I was surprised that the chow mein may have been better than the momo. Both were great, but the chow mein had that great wok-hei taste that I love and rarely get. There were also plenty of veggies. It's inside the Zed, which has lots of seating and you can also order alcohol/beer if that's your thing, like an indoor food cart pod.

Kelsi M.

Yelp
Disappointing, honestly. The pork momos had better flavor than the beef. The dumpling part was good, but the dumplings were far bigger than the meat in proportion. Like if you cut the Moro in half, some didn't have meat filling & was just the dumpling shell. Side salad was very small. All in all, decent flavor, but totally not worth the price IMO.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
uh-Mazing dumplings, that is all, nothing else needs to be said! Go there, order them, eat them. You're welcome.

Heather R.

Yelp
So yummy! The beef noodles are where it's at! The beef was a little too salty for me, but overall a delicious dish! The dumplings were also delightful and everything was super filling for the prices

Daren Z.

Yelp
Yummy delicious dumplings and noodles. Different flavors than I have had before. This setup in the z-house is great. I really hope it works out!

Walter L.

Yelp
Great service! Amazing dumplings! And perhaps the best noodles I've ever tried! Will definitely be back!

Jason C.

Yelp
I've seen their menu a few times but had never tried out Sherpa Kitchen. I was at Base Camp and got the pork dumplings. I love that I can just order at the bar and get everything done in one transaction. The pork dumplings were super juicy and tasty. The skins were a little tough for me but still good. I like chewy skins, but these were a little dry. The sauces were all great. I especially like the spicy sauce, and the salad was super fresh. Definitely a high quality salad!

Af R.

Yelp
Yum!! Hadn't been inside this 'dining hall' location, which is a good space with plenty of seating. Pork momos were great as was the chicken noodle dish. Hubs preferred the beef to the pork momos, but I don't eat beef. The only thing I can think of to make this place better is adding chicken momos and the option to pan fry as I like a bit of a crispy outside. So happy to have this spot in Lents now!

Anna L.

Yelp
We had veggie momo with tender green salad, thukpa [noodle soup] and a meat-rice dish which were all delicious and fresh. The Nepali sweet clove-spice tea was divine. The owners, Mingmar Sherpa and his cheerful wife, cook everything from scratch. Quality is great. You can see the kitchen fully from the order counter, and it is super clean. The big indoor seating area is shared with other food-drink shops, in a high-ceiling converted factory with comfortable wooden tables and chairs. They said that the building is being developed to include a new farmer's market and music performance space, likely by summer-2022. We'll certainly be back!

Abhimanyu V.

Yelp
The best momos in portland. I used to do to this place called The Peacock Window to have them, but I went to Sherpa Kitchen today and it blew me away. I ordered the veggie momos , pork momos and the dal tarkari. The staff is very very nice. They offered us some India chai on the house and also gave us some very very spicy sauce for the momos. The very very spicy sauce can be requested and is a must try with the momos. The daal tarkari veggie plate was also really nice, but being an Indian we have it at home all the time. It might be a novelty for people who have never tried boiled lentils

Shaun M.

Yelp
Excellent find! I came to this area for Gracie's new cart, and stumbled upon this place, and I'm glad I did. Got the Beef Momo's and the Beef noodles, the Beef Momo's were extremely good and flavorful. The Beef noodles I ended up heating up the next day, and they were still very flavorful and tasty. There is a tent next door that you can eat in as well, which is a nice perk. I'll definitely be back.

Chloe Y.

Yelp
Wow! This was delicious. We got the chicken momos and the chicken rice bowl. SO tasty!! The owners were super friendly and the beer from Zoigl Brewery was awesome too. All in all a great experience. We will be back soon for more!!!

Krista I.

Yelp
I got the beef dumplings and beef noodles and it was amazing. So much flavor! I will be back!

Namitha S.

Yelp
If you have momo craving, this is your go-to place. Best momos I have eaten around Portland area! The veg momo is stuffed with tofu, peas, onions. The sauce on the side adds to the taste! The noodles was okay. Ordered 3 plates of momos and 2 noodles for 4 people. It came to around $8 per person. Cheap in cost, not the taste. You can choose to sit in a covered brightly lit tent or in the brewery. They bring food to the table. Definitely would visit again for momos and tent ambience!

Dada P.

Yelp
Located inside a dining hall. Came for dumpling week and they did not disappoint! Friendless staff and great food!

Dee M.

Yelp
I got the veggie momos and the veggie dal tarkari. The food was very homely and the produce was all fresh. The owners are extremely sweet and nice. They even play Bollywood songs inside their food truck. Unfortunately I'm too used to the westernized version of the food and need the salt and spices. The food here is made very healthy and you should head there on the days you are craving just that.

That Jalepeno G.

Yelp
Ohh my the stir fry is so bomb! Super nice people even better location! Hole in the wall food bomb!

Morgan T.

Yelp
Pretty sure we'll be back. We got the pork and veggie momo with beef noodles. The beef noodles were really tasty and I would absolutely be back to eat them. Good amount of vegetables in mixed in and the sauce is really tasty. Reminiscent of the Maruchan fresh yakisoba spice packets (which I'm totally fine with!). The veggie momo were tasty and well flavored, but I found the pork ones a bit bland. Like another reviewer said, the skins seemed like they could have been cooked a tad bit longer as they were a bit dry. Other than that the ambiance is great. Grab a couple beers from Base Camp Brewery and the super nice guys who work at Sherpa Kitchen will bring your food out to you.

Matt S.

Yelp
This was great Nepali food. We had Momo's and chicken dal-bhat-tarkari. You can also enjoy beer from local brewery inside. There is nice outdoor seating as well. We would definitely stop by again in this place if we are in the area.

Bhargav S.

Yelp
Vege Momo's were thick and not flavorful. The vegetable noodles were drab ! The hot sauce was excellent though, just not enough to make up for the actual food.

Jeanne E.

Yelp
DELICIOUS! That was the best food I had in years! I'm serious. Ist even better than it looks. And it looks incredible. They have a short menu (3 dishes) but you can choose between veggie and different variants of meat. There should be something for everyone! You can drink beer from base camp, order at the truck and the food will be delivered to you! GO FOR IT! And thanks for the great chai!

Catarina M.

Yelp
Awesome authentic food! Beef momos went really great with a few beers from Base Camp Brewery located right next door. You are able to order food inside Base Camp and they bring it right to you. My friend had the beef stir fry and said the flavor was great. I want to try their chicken curry next time.

Sudha S.

Yelp
absolutely the best momos I have had outside of delhi. Lovely women running the place Cant wait to come back. The veggie nomos and veggie chowmein was 5*

Ankush H.

Yelp
Terrific food. Great service. Highly recommend momos and lentil rice. The food is fresh. The menu is really small, but that's what makes this place so good. High quality stuff.

FoodSnot S.

Yelp
Sherpa kitchen did me and my lover mighty fine for a quick stop at lunch time. Order the noodle bowl, both the beef and vegetarian bowl hit the spot. Bombass flavoring and fresh with a hint of heat. The soupy dumplings still make me salivate. Order another bowl to go and have it for lunch the next day. You'll thank yourself for a nice lunch.

Pavel S.

Yelp
Unique home cooked food. However if you are looking for a restaurant cooked food, you will be disappointed. The Momos were ok, skin too thick :(.

Darren J.

Yelp
Awesome friendly fresh a lot food good price highly recommend I had the chicken with noodle/ramen I got spicy but it was just right yummy

Emily C.

Yelp
I've never had Nepalese food before this, but now I want to eat it way more often! So good and all the veggie dishes have a ton of bright, beautiful fresh veggies. Momos make me happy. Service is awesome too! Prices are really reasonable as well. Yay!!!!

Lori P.

Yelp
Incredible food! The staff is lovely and friendly. The Nepali tea is delicious! Momos and the veggie dal haunt my dreams!

Rochak D.

Yelp
The food was only one of the good parts of this restaurant. The chefs were really friendly and ambience of the sit-down space was fantastic in the evening. Definitely would go again. :)

Arka C.

Yelp
Awesome beef momos with choice of really hot chutneys, good chowmein too - and you can wash it down with a selection of beer.

Joyce T.

Yelp
These guys are awesome. Tasty food (suggest the momos and veggie noodles), very friendly and great chai!

Melissa P.

Yelp
Super friendly service and delicious food. The chicken is so tender! Don't miss out on the momo! This was my first time eating Nepalese food and I'm glad I tried. I will be back!

Matthew K.

Yelp
Having worked in Indian restaurants for more than half my adult life, I have developed a great fondness for yellow dal, chicken curry, and basmati rice. They were staple items I would eat almost daily. Sherpa kitchen's Dal But Tarkari brought back my memories of eating this delicious combination. Great food at a great price. I highly recommend giving the dal and dumplings a try. You will be greeted by a very friendly owner, a complimentary cup of hot chai, and the opportunity to enjoy your comforting and healthy meal inside Basecamp brewery. Two thumbs up. P.S. if you like spicy, ask for a side of their chili sauce. It's devilishly hot and pairs nicely without offsetting the flavors.

Adam H.

Yelp
Excellent food truck outside of Base Camp Brewing in Portland. Really delicious food as I had their Chicken Curry dish with lentils and rice.

Trisha B.

Yelp
Lived this place. Food was rich and flavorful. A wonderful explosion in your mouth. We sat in the bar next door and our food was delivered to us. Way to collaborate!

Kendall S.

Yelp
Best dal bhat in Portland by far. Having spent a lot of time in the Himalaya, it really doesn't get more authentic than this. The momo's are also incredible and big enough for a meal if you're a light eater. It's not greasy or heavy like other Indian or Nepalese type food carts in town. All this for a good price. Just go.

Brittany S.

Yelp
Yum! I am not an adventurous eater by any means but I loved this food. We had the edamame and also a noodle dish, not sure of the name as my dad went outside to order the food. Everything was fresh, delicious, and made very quickly! Even my 11 month old loved the noodles which were very flavorful. Nice owners too, very helpful!
