Went for lunch. Very busy. Be sure to go early and put your name down! I had to wait for the second turn but it was worth the wait. Food was excellent. The Japanese chef created some omakase nigiris and fish was definitely fresh. I loved the hotate. Not the frozen kind. The real shelled one and he presented three different ways to eat one whole hotate. Each bite size is pretty big compared to average sushi piece. Excellent.

The best Japanese food I ever had! So tasty, so much flavor and it melts in your mouth. Their house special Shibuya rolls are amazing. Crispy rice Spicy tuna to die for, scallops rolls - even a simple cucumber side dish was so tasty. My favorite Black Cod Miso - cooked to perfection! Everything was so fresh - you can feel the difference! The place is small and the wait can be hour long. Plan accordingly but going early for dinner can reduce the wait time. Parking can be difficult but there is plenty of parking off the road. Update: wait this time was longer because of weekend - over 2 hours! We just went to The Commons at Calabasas. The food was still super good! PS: To cut wait time many people plan ahead. Go at 4:00 pm to add reservation at Shibuya, watch a movie and come back!

I took time before posting this review. I visited this restaurant twice and read over 25 reviews prior to forming my opinion. The restaurant is significantly overpriced for the overall experience. The space is extremely small, with very tight seating; tables intended for two are frequently converted into four, which compromises comfort. During our last visit, we were seated in an area with constant foot traffic directly behind me. I was repeatedly bumped by passing guests, my chair was pushed, and a server pulled my hair while clearing plates. The experience felt similar to dining at a crowded tachigui sushi bar in Japan—without the efficiency or value that typically justifies such a setup. The sushi is good, but not exceptional, and certainly not Michelin-level as some reviews suggest. Service favored local regulars and felt dismissive toward visitors. Despite an expected 20% tip, basic service was lacking (napkins, ginger requests, follow-up at the table). Overall, an uncomfortable and disappointing experience. Given the price, space, and service, I would not return nor recommend this restaurant.

I recently visited Shibuya and had a great experience overall. The food was fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The sushi rolls were especially delicious, with a great balance of textures and flavors. The service was good but not perfect; while the staff was friendly and attentive, there were some slight delays. Nothing major, but noticeable. The atmosphere was enjoyable, though it lacked that extra touch to make it a five-star experience. It was lively and well-designed, but perhaps a bit too loud or crowded at times. Overall, a solid 4-star experience, and I’d definitely return for the amazing food!

The wait took about 2.5 hours on a Saturday night but it was still so worth it! It is top 5 best sushi I've ever had- the Shibuya house roll, rainbow roll, spicy tuna crispy cakes and miso soup were out of this world. The spicy yellow tail and miso cod were also very good. The staff were extremely friendly and fast despite being incredibly busy. Would definitely come back if I have time to wait!

The sushi bar is a bit tight but it's fine, it makes you feel like you're eating in Japan. I started off with the Shibuya roll. One of the best sushi rolls I've had in LA. The tempura was so crunchy, the crab was soft, not overly stuffed with rice, and just a perfect roll. Later I also had the salmon onion roll - another amazing roll that is rather simple but executed perfectly and unlike anything you'll find elsewhere. The toro was outstanding, so tender and fresh, while the seared toro just melted in my mouth. The salmon belly topped with the orange glaze and sesame seeds was mind blowing. The unagi was perfect. Thick cut, charred to perfection, not overly sauced. The sweet shrimp had a good bite and fresh, sweet flavor. And of course, the tuna crispy rice. Wow. Nobody else does it like Shibuya. The crispy rice is almost like an arancini, so crunchy on the outside yet soft and fluffy rice inside. The tuna is cut into good size chunks, and not drenched in mayo taking away the fresh delicious flavor of the tuna. Each piece was like eating 3 tuna crispy rice at any other sushi spot. Shibuya is an absolute YES in my book, and it should be for you too.

Great place, the rice cakes were the best. You can't make reservations, so there's usually a wait time that depends on how early you get there. Good food and drinks in a small place. Everything tastes fresh, and you can see them making it if you sit at the bar.

I’ve never felt so ignored at a restaurant. The wait time was completely misleading. What was supposed to be 30 minutes turned into hours, while other guests who arrived later were seated ahead of us. There was zero accountability and zero apology from the staff. The lack of communication and basic respect was shocking. Even other diners were pointing out how wrong the situation was. I eventually had to leave because it was going nowhere.

I have an updated order for 2 people: - Spicy tuna crispy rice - Salmon onion roll - Spicy yellowtail roll - Albacore belly sashimi crispy onions - Albacore higashi 3 sauce - Toro nigiri - Seabass hand roll I definitely want to try the spicy salmon crispy rice next time around. The salmon onion roll is my husbands favorite thing here! The Albacore higashi 3 sauce is new for us, second time having it and it's definitely a must moving forward! You can almost never go wrong with toro :). Idk why it took me this long to realize that my albacore sashimi with crispy onions could be albacore BELLY sashimi with crispy onions (even better!!). The seabass handroll is my husbands second favorite thing here. I'm obsessed with it all. Enjoy!

What an awful, unpleasent experience! As many others have noted, the entire "waiting for a table" process is profoundly (deliberately?) broken. We waited two and a half hours for a table and watched, astonished, as for the last hour we were told, "Just another few minutes." Then a regular would roll in, get greeted by name and a meaningful nod, and then be given the next available table 5 or 10 minutes later. Others in line told me they'd arrived at 4:30 to put their names on the list, only to see that the clipboard was already filled with pages of names. Names aren't crossed out after being seated, so it's impossible to tell where things stand. It seems like intentional chaos. It's 2025 -- an iPad and peoples' phone numbers would automate the system, create some transparency, and assure people about to spend $100/person that it's all above board. As a restaurateur, you'd have to decide *not* to do this -- which seems to be the case at Shibuya. Oh yeah: the food? Good, not great. I've had sushi all over L.A and N.Y. and lived in Japan for three years. Some things here were excellent, others were well below average (albacore with a little smear of garlic from a jar? Jar-lic? Really? Disgusting). Bottom line: there's lots better to be had. Go elsewhere.

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. The fish is great, the rolls are delicious - but the wait, the sitting on top of other people, the very mediocre service if you are not a celebrity or a daily regular - makes me not want to return. If you can, show up during the week at lunch time. There still may be a wait (albeit shorter than at dinner), but it will be worth it. The spicy tuna on crispy rice is famous here for good reason. When my absolute favorite sushi spot closed in Tarzana - Ichiban Kan, this was the closest I could get to the same types of rolls, flavors, and freshness. I do hate the hierarchy here though. You could have waited 2 hours for a table, and some D list celebrity will just walk right up and ask how long the wait is to be seated immediately. Once you do finally get seated - they'll smush you between people - adding chairs to an already full sushi bar so you are sitting awkwardly angled towards your party playing an arm dance with the person sitting next to you OR it'll be musical chairs and everyone in the whole restaurant has to stand up and move around so that you can physically reach your table. I know the whole shtick is being exclusive but most of the time the allure is not strong enough to get me to come back - there's better fish elsewhere. That being said it IS good food once you finally get the chance to eat it. Also - parking can be a nightmare in their lot

Exceptional sushi, with albacore crispy onion sashimi just melting in your mouth. The cut rolls are good size and the house roll with crab meat, as well as the spicy tuna roll with albacore on top, were especially good. You can truly taste the freshness in every bite! I also tried their spicy tuna handroll. The tuna was just overflowing the seaweed handroll cone and I heard it whisper to me "Eat me"! I did.... and I wanted more! Absolutely amazing food! As far as the service, I thought that the staff could have been more attentive. I needed to get up to ask for extra napkins and the empty plates would chill on the table for 20 minutes before anyone would pick them up. They were really busy attending to other guests, but they kinda left us out. Regardless, I will come back to Shibuya again, as the quality of the fish was superb!

Dinner Valentine evening-they always hit a home runs at at the bar and was served by Tom. We relaxed before ordering. The first thing we had was there amazing seafood salad which featured Al lol of there amazing fish a delicious greens and a scrumptious dressing. We then ordered there famous signature dish Spivey tuna on crispy rice cake amazing! Then we ordered a special called wrapped in various fish and stuffed with crab and topped with sinful crispy onion strips. We left satisfied and can't wait to come back. March 20th 2022. A day I think about a lot. The day I tried shibuya. A mission it is, trying to drive to Calabasas from but frick nowhere, to get to the restaurant before it opens and not knowing who else is also doing the same thing. We spontaneously one day decided to send it and arrived around 4:20pm. We were confused and worried about how to be added to the waitlist because the door was closed but we eventually saw people go inside and a clipboard to write our names down. Finally at 5pm, we were one of the first people to get a table and boy was my mouf waterin. After seeing all the hype from Mr. Rick Lox himself I was dying to try everything he had suggested. Everything was bomb.com. Melted in your mouth oh my goodness still taste it and crave it to this day. Place definitely met expectations! Food was the highlight of the show. The albacore with crispy onions was buttery, the baked crab hand roll was amazing, and salmon with white onion roll was good as well. The crispy rice tuna was hyped up, but I thought it was alright. The shibuya roll is basically a glorified california roll, still all good though. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is the wait for 2 hours and the very little space I had sitting. Also, many of the customers seemed to be regulars there, and were pretty loud and demanding, though not the restaurants fault of course. If you do come and want to be seated quick, check in at 3 as that's when people put their name on the list. I had to be very proactive in doing this and waiting for a spot. Overall though, very good sushi!

I love eating at Shibuya. There's always a wait, it's best to go right when they open to put your name down. The sushi here is so fresh and melts in your mouth. Their spicy tuna on rice cakes is delicious and HUGE- this is the only place I know of that makes it this size. They also make a spicy scallop on rice cake (it's not printed on the menu, but just write it on there). You can't go wrong with anything you order here. Parking- small parking lot

Came in and got seated quickly at the bar around 1pm, party of 2. Some highlights of the meal was the torro, bluefin, and uni with caviar sushi. Everything else tasted good and service was excellent. It was a bonus coming in and seeing an old high-school friend (class of 2005 and 2002) and an aquaintenance from the last time we came in. Love the local spots that bring food and people together.

Shibuya is absolutely worth the hype! Even though we waited about an hour on a Thursday evening, it was so worth it. The portions were very generous, and the fish was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The wait only added to the anticipation, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere and friendly staff (especially our chef) made the experience even better. We will definitely be coming back--this is our new go-to spot for sushi in Calabasas! Oh and, even though I forgot to take a picture, their spicy miso was the best miso soup we have ever had! *chef's kiss*

Sushi is pretty good but it is not worth the wait. Usually around 3 hours for a Saturday night. Also the inside is cramped crowded and not very nice. Great sushi if you have the time and are in the area so still giving 5 stars

Hi, it's me...I'm the problem it's me! Just visited Shubuya for dinner and it did not blow my mind in the ways it does for others. The service was great and attentive but the food was missing the greatness I was expecting. We ordered a variety of the nigiri, two of the rolls, and two orders of the tuna crispy rice. Nothing stood out to me. It has me wondering if I just don't like this style of sushi or it is just over hyped. I much rather have Sugar Fish across the street. Since it is so popular, I may be the problem. I just wanted to share my personal experience.

Had some of the best sushi! Great hospitality and service. I really enjoyed the fresh cucumber salad in the beginning along with the ginger and wasabi. I was so excited to try the spicy tune or spicy salmon rice cake! We got the spicy tuna rice cake and so delicious! We also ordered yellowtail belly, albacore belly and salmon belly...all good! My favorite was probably the albacore. We got the Shibuya special roll and it did not disappoint! What I love is the sushi is bigger than your average piece so very filling. It is pretty small inside and there's always a long wait. But I found parking easily in the parking lot.

F***. I mean really, f*** man. I did not think sushi could blow me away this much. The crispy rice is the epitome of contrast - the rice is airy and light then the salmon sitting on top is rich and smooth. I think about this place at least once a month, and now understand why my very respected foodie couple friends go out of their way to come here

My brother has been talking about coming to Shibuya for years, but my biggest hesitation? They don't take reservations, and let's be real--your boy does not like waiting, especially when I'm hungry! But I finally caved and joined my brothers for a meal here. First off, the staff? Super friendly and accommodating. We sat at the bar, and the chefs had a great sense of humor. Getting to the bar was an adventure--you're packed in like sardines in a can (lol), but once that first plate of sushi hits the table, you forget all about it. Suddenly, you don't even care about the sardine vibes or the possibility of an earthquake, because your belly is getting treated to some next-level sushi. No photos, sorry! I didn't even have time to snap a pic--I was too busy enjoying the food and trying to decide if this place lived up to the years of hype from my brother. (Spoiler alert: it does.) Pro tip: order the spicy ponzu sauce. It's spicy but absolutely worth it. Conclusion? This place is finger-licking good, and I'm already planning my next visit. Cheers--see you there!

Hard to not give this place a 5/5 with how good the food was- arguably some of the best sushi I have ever had. Will say service is slow, the actual ambiance is a bit chaotic due to the loud music and small venue but I think that speaks even higher to how this place gets a 5/5 because it is THAT good. The crispy rice with tuna is a must order- best i've ever had. Salmon and onion was also a classic. The shibuya roll and spicy tuna were great but may try others next time just to try more of the menu. Get there early as there is always a wait but you won't be disappointed with the quality.

I think we got lucky and got there at exactly 5 pm, so no wait at all and we were seated at the bar immediately. The chefs were so nice, very attentive and recommending us different pieces from their menus. The fishes were extremely fresh and tasty. The crispy rice pieces were huge but were made so amazingly. The wagyu sashimi was so tasty and cooked perfectly. The seared eggplant in my opinion was the only one lacking some taste. The scallop and mushroom were also really good, however I'd have preferred if the scallop was less cocked. The Shibuya roll was so good, definitely recommend it to anyone visiting. The restaurant itself is very small but clean and everyone is super friendly and fast.

I came here on a Tuesday for lunch and it was still packed. The stuffed squid and albacore crispy onion were amazing and so unique. The tuna and salmon sushi pieces were so fresh and melted in your mouth. I also think this is the best crispy rice I've had but one order (3 pieces) is enough because they are pretty big. If I came back, I would get more sushi pieces.

Excited to finally explore Shibuya! The sushi bar was packed with a busy ambience. the incredibly fresh and delicious fish made the wait worthwhile. Make sure you arrive early to secure a spot on the list. The servers were attentive and polite. My top picks were the stuffed squid appetizer, blue fin sushi with caviar, salmon sushi, and the spicy tuna rice cake. I'm definitely planning a return visit!

Stopped by for dinner & realized this place is difficult to get into. There's limited seating, but a friendly atmosphere. Delicious & fresh fish if you can handle the wait time. Only took one photo because everything else got devoured on sight!

Rick Lox knows what's up. Rick has been raving about Shibuya, and I finally went to try it. We arrived at 6:30 PM and waited about 40 minutes to be seated. The place was packed, and the waitlist was very long. They brought water, ginger, and a small cucumber salad right away. The cucumber salad was good. The truffle edamame was delicious. The albacore sashimi with fried onion was unreal; we added fried onion for $2.50. The yellowtail sashimi with scallions was amazing too. The seared eggplant was solid, 6.5/10. The spicy tuna crispy rice was the best thing we ordered. The spicy salmon crispy rice was good, but the spicy tuna was better, in my opinion. We ordered three nigiris: yellowtail, salmon, and toro. All were 10/10. If I could only pick one, it would have to be the yellowtail, but I highly recommend ordering all three. Friendly service and a neighborhood staple. HIGHLY recommend.

We always make it a point to come here anytime we are in SoCal. This was our 4th time here and this place never disappoints us. The amazing quality of the sushi and fish here makes it very difficult for any other sushi place to compare. We always get the Crispy Tuna Rice, Ama Ebi, Live Scallop, and Salmon Belly. From there, we try to order a variety of other things. The workers here are so kind and hardworking. It never goes unnoticed when we come here. They definitely know what they are doing because this place functions great even though there is constantly a wait of people and it is non stop for serving, taking orders, seating, and closing guests out. The inside is small, so we got there at 330 to put our name down to hopefully get first seating. They'll come out at around 5 during opening to seat the first round. Food gets out very quickly too!

Absolutely incredible as always. Something as basic as spicy tuna roll is completely different at Shibuya. The reason is the spicy tuna is not pre-made it's made fresh, mixed etc for each roll. While the ambiance is tight at the sushi counter, who cares. The service and sushi is worth the wait and the cramped counter. Epic sushi, no where else even compares.

It's shibuya you can expect the best crispy rice spicy tuna in the world and melt in your mouth fish. Probably my death row meal. Go for lunch and get there 11:45 latest or you won't get in.

The signage outside the restaurant says sign-up sheet opens at 4:30PM with the store opening at 5PM. A couple cars were already waiting outside ready to sign. When 4:30PM came by, everyoune found out that sign-ups opened at 3PM per the staff. Request from the customers to remove the inaccurate sign were met with shrugs and dismissal. "Oh well, it opened at 3 PM so..." We wrote our names down at 4:23 PM and we were already #28. No food is worth this hassle and rude dismissive service.

This place is low-key Michelin Star. The sushi rice was perfectly cooked and served at precise temperature. I waited for two hours to get a seat because they were busy that Friday night. Once I sat down it was a great experience.

I loved everything we had here. I was only able to capture a few pics of the oyster and quail egg we had. We tried the toro / mackerel - yellow tail (mainly sashimi )and it was all amazing. Great service as always (except for the wait but that's expected )

My first time here and my last! Came here with a group of friends at 6pm and waited 2hr+. The sushi was good but my review is based on the customer service and how unethical their waiting list system works. 1. Your party is not acknowledge on the waitlist even if you're next to be seated! They will skip you if they're annoyed with you for asking how long the wait is. 2. You either need to be a regular, "celebrity", or slip them a tip to be seated right away. Unfair, for other patrons that have been waiting but hey money talks so be prepared to slip them a tip if you plan to go here.

Such a great experience despite being cramped at the bar as a solo diner. Their AC is cold on hot days and their staff is top notch especially the two guys hustling bringing you water and clearing plates. Highly highly recommended the spicy salmon with onion on soy paper, tuna on crispy rice & the kanpachi tostadas. If I could eat here once a week I absolutely would. Come right when they open at noon and put your name down for a decreased wait time.

Outstanding sushi -- maybe my favorite ever. My favs are the 911 roll, the spicy tuna crispy rice, and the shibuya house roll. Lots of ppl modify the shibuya house roll to be served with soy paper, but i think the standard seaweed wrap is way better! Only downsides 1) are the super long wait: one hour minimum even if you arrive at opening. No buzzer or texting system so you can't really leave and come back. And 2) the ambiance is terrible lol. The tables are super squished together. If you are unlucky enough to be seated by the door, you'll have a hoard of people crammed into the entryway staring you down as you eat. Still giving Shibuya 5 stars because the food is so damn good.

Spicy salmon on crispy rice 9.36/10- the salmon was incredibly fresh- kind of had like a poke feel to it? I really like how they put avocado and massage on top it makes for A1 presentation. The crispy rice wasn't as good as last time tbh I think it was a bit too crispy and it didn't melt in my mouth. However, I still really enjoyed this Bluefin Tuna handroll 9.89/10- absolutely delicious, really enjoyed this. The fish was so fresh and also had such a rich flavor. Had a buttery flavor and slight watermelon taste. They gave a very good portion of toro for the handroll Spicy lobster roll 3.00/10- just didn't really like this, it didn't really taste like anything and lacked flavor especially as it markets itself to be spicy. The lobster was definitely very fresh and good quality- however the roll itself had no flavor to it. Albacore Sashimi w/ Fried Onions 10/10- freshest albacore I've had. A bit buttery and dressed in ponzu sauce. Hint of citrus, pretty light. The fried onions also adds to as well as brings out a lot of the flavor of the albacore. Nigiri 9.78/10- I cannot remember the names of what we tried however I really enjoyed both: The only thing I didn't like about this was they sandwiched wasabi underneath the sashimi on top of the rice which I was not expecting. Did not anticipate a wasabi head tingle. Sashimi itself was fresh as per usual Battered? Shrimp 8.31/10- I can't remember the actual name of this dish however it was pretty good. I'd say that the shrimp was perfectly battered and I liked how each shrimp was pretty big and had lots of flavorful. I wish it was more saucy tho, kind of like bang bang shrimp. They could have definitely added more spicy mayo to the dish for more flavor Baked snow crab hand roll 100/10- this was the fantastic end to the meal and my favorite out of everything we ordered. It was incredibly fresh and also so creamy and tender. Honestly very comforting while also being delicate. Highly recommend this. Had a salty taste with a buttery and sweet after taste, completely melts in your mouth. Melt-in-your-mouth. So good. Went for lunch. Got there at 11:30 to put our name on the list and barely made the cut for the first round of seating when they opened at 12pm. Definitely go early to put your name on the list. The sushi was phenomenal. Seabass roll was just ok. Same with the stuffed squid. Wouldn't order either again. The Shibuya roll was good. The crispy rice was delicious! Very pricey though. $110 for lunch for 2 people and easily could have spent more.

Super fresh, delicious, buttery fish. This place is top notch. We got sweet shrimp with the fried heads, a spider roll and several other nigiri. The toro nigiri is served with real wasabi - such a treat. The eel was melt in your mouth amazing. The only thing was that we didn't taste / see a big difference between the salmon and salmon belly cuts that we got - both tasted great but one was not more fatty than the other it seemed. The place is very busy so come early to put your name down. We came on a Wednesday night at 6:45pm and our wait was about an hour. Worth it for the quality of fish. Will definitely be back!

Amazing food, the best sushi spot in Los Angeles hands down! Everything feels so fresh and the quality is just superb. I recommend everyone to try this spot. You do have a bit of wait time but it's worth it!

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Southern California. The quality of the sushi is so fresh! I always order the Shibuya roll and the salmon onion cut rolls. The tuna on crispy rice is amazing. The tuna hand roll is so delicious too. The only downside is the very long wait! It takes forever to be seated here because they don't take reservations. It's a very small hole in the wall kind of place but the food is absolutely worth a visit.

I've avoided reviewing this restaurant for so long because, as the waitlist on any given weeknight would attest, Shibuya needs no further endorsement. However, this is my favorite restaurant, bare none, and as they approach 1000 reviews, the cat is out of the bag. The restaurant itself is immaculately clean, intimate (read: tiny), and unassuming, a hole in the wall in the best sense of the word. The staff are wonderful, the heart and soul of this establishment. Hard working, kind, efficient, yet incredibly poised in the face of the daily onslaught of their demanding, and at times very pushy customers (kindly don't hassle them, waiting for your table civilly is part of the experience). The food, exquisite. Standouts are the Shibuya house roll, three sauce tuna, and teriyaki sea bass appetizer, but that only scratches the surface and there are many more gems I don't wish advertise this publicly lest they run out more frequently. If you're on the fence, do yourself a favor and try Shibuya

Located near US post office. Get there early for dinner to put your name on their list; seating is limited! All their selections are good! Worth the wait! Ambiance...you might see a celebrity! (Keep payment to one payer, they don't like splitting the bill)

Definitely one of the best sushi spot i have been to !! Friend recommended but it didn't disappoint, bad side is that you have to wait 1hr to seat down if are not there for the first seating early, service can be a little bit more friendly, ambience was good !!

Finally getting the chance to experience Shibuya was well worth the wait. Despite its cozy interior and no-reservation policy, the service was impressively efficient. We dove into an array of dishes, including the Shibuya roll, tuna rice cakes, toro, albacore, and salmon. Each bite was a testament to their commitment to quality and generous portions. The only note would be to pace yourself, as even the rice cakes, while tasty, can quickly fill you up. Overall, Shibuya exceeded expectations, leaving us eager to return for more. Can't beat the price and quality AND portion size. Even though the service may not be the friendliest at time when it comes to seating, I'd say it's worth it for the food alone.

Shibuya is always worth the wait. The fish is fresh, delicious, and well-presented. Yes, you have to post your name and wait, and there's no good place inside to do so. It's California--sitting outside and talking to your dinner date is part of the vibe. Go with patience in mind, and make up for the wait by ordering copious amounts of top-notch seafood. Love this place!

Epic lunch. Chefs are on point and the fish is as fresh as can be. Get there at least as hour before they open if you don't want to wait.
