SHIKI Brasserie & Bar

"This minimalist-style brasserie with its large terrace is SHIKI’s less formal eatery. It offers a wider range of dishes from miso soup to tempura and sushi – the latter prepared before you as you sit at the sushi bar." - Michelin Inspector

SHIKI Japanese Fine Dining

"Shiki translates as "four seasons", and , indeed, this tastefully elegant fine dining restaurant takes its cue from the seasons, serving up both traditional and a modern take on Japanese cuisine – fascinating, expressive and made with top-notch ingredients. There are two set menus in the evening, which are supplemented by the brasserie selection at lunchtime." - Michelin Inspector

The quality of the food its really good, but not sure its up to either the expectations or the price. The highlight the tempura quality of the shrimps. However my dinner at Shiki felt like you fall short of their inside dinner, the ambience its not really welcoming nor upscale, a bit boring and not well designed (feels like tagging along the table of you neighbors all the time, squeezed). Service it feels like its really really busy all the time. My take, unless you are really craving this food, skip or find better uptions, or if you planned it in advance might bee good to try their upscale version inside.

I was craving sushi and found this restaurant in the Michelin guide. The food was ok despite the sushi rice being a bit mushy. Quality of fish/seafood was really great. The miso butterfish was lacklustre and needed more miso flavor especially at that price point. Service you was not very attentive and it took a while to be greeted after being seated and to receive my check.

My partner and I went there to celebrate my birthday. Ambient was nice, food was ok. However, towards the end of the meal, we had the feeling the waiter was annoyed at us for requesting to take a photo for us and did not really cared to do it properly. When asked a second time for another photo because the first one was with bad lighting and had other guests in them staring into the camera, he gave my partner an annoyed look and reaction when he came over. As this is such an expensive fine dining restaurant, one would expect the service staff to be more accommodating of such requests, especially on a celebration dinner where one would like to have photo memories, regardless of whether or not they are busy. I have had amazing experiences at other restaurants where the wait staff made the effort to take great pictures for the guests. The price of the tasting menu per person is rather high for what you get, and for that we expected better food and service.

The food was really good, but the service was not good enough for the price and the fame. I had the sushi plate and the staff did not bother to explain what I was eating. One waitress did with the deserts we ordered.

Background Positioned as one of Vienna's premier Japanese restaurants, Brasserie Shiki attracts a well-heeled crowd with its promise of authentic flavours in a sophisticated setting. But does it deliver beyond the sleek facade? Ambience It is stylish and contemporary, with clean lines and muted tones creating a modern izakaya feel. The outdoor seating offers pleasant people-watching when weather permits, though traffic noise from the main road disrupts the tranquillity. Service It was surprisingly lacklustre for a restaurant of this calibre. While the local regulars received warm welcomes and farewells, our party experienced perfunctory, borderline indifferent service—a stark contrast to Japanese hospitality standards. Food & Drink The maki rolls were forgettable, and the unagi-avocado combination missed the mark with its flavour and mushiness. The black cod was perfectly caramelised with buttery flesh, and the smoky eggplant was flavourful and had texture. I enjoyed the braised shallot sushi, an inventive vegan option that outshone traditional offerings Overall A service that fails to match its premium positioning. It's worth visiting for the cod and creative vegan options.

Google
A very refined and impressive place - elegant outside and inside. The service is sharp, professional, and respectful of tradition. Every dish we tried was something you simply can’t recreate at home - unique in taste, beautifully presented, and full of character. Even the sake is served the right way, with care and ceremony. Of course, it’s not cheap… but let’s be honest: cooking like this takes decades, not minutes. So yes, worth every yen - I mean euro ;)

I had dinner at the Shiki fine dining Food: The dishes were delicious, with a authentic Japanese flavor not common in western cuisine. However, they lacked the wow factor I was hoping for at this price point. Service: The staff was wonderful—kind, friendly, and professional. Ambiance: The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, but perhaps a bit too enclosed for my taste. The lack of windows and dim lighting made the space feel quite dark. Given the high expectations set by the menu prices, I was hoping for a bit more in terms of both food and ambiance. While the quality was good, it didn’t quite match the premium pricing compared to similar restaurants in this category. Overall, I had a good dining experience with delicious food and excellent service, but I felt the price was a bit steep for what was delivered.

Good foods and great service. Staffs are very friendly and really high quality. I went with my friends and we really enjoying for all. Service staffs realized even small things. Fish was fresh and first time I ate Austrian beef. It was amazing. It was really good moment with my friends in this restaurant.thank you so much for makes us happy. I forgot to take photos, This mean we really enjoyed.

Yelp
Coming from California and having traveled all over Japan i was inspired to hear about this Japanese/Viennese chef having created this experience in Vienna. Shiki was very highly recommended by our concierge who was constantly being challenged by us to find a restaurant that served something other than goulash and snitzel. The rolls we ordered were boring. The sushi was ok. The ambiance was sophisticated and very pleasant. It made me miss Ventura blvd and the myriad of sushi restaurants that dot it for a two mile stretch in the valley. I will never complain about the sushi in Los Angeles ever again!

Yelp
Had wagyu burger, taste was great and better than expected. Service was also great. Thanks

Yelp
Let's just say the fish chef should get some training how to cut fish. Very poor skills. I think the owner should sharpen the knives.

Yelp
Certainly this was the best meal we had in Vienna over our 6 days here. While I loved sampling the food stalls at the various Christmas markets we visited, the Viennese cafes, and the European fine dining, after a few days my body was done with European food and just needed some Asian flavors. Shiki did not disappoint. It was all my Japanese comfort foods, heightened to beautiful new heights. I really loved how there was classic Viennese and European ingredients but done in a very Japanese way. Chef Hattori really shines brightly with desserts. While our entire meal was heavenly, the desserts are what stood out and were absolutely memorable. In a city filled with amazing desserts, I didn't expect for the very best - most enjoyable, artfully presented, and delicious - to come from a Japanese restaurant. They were so good, that it put the Cafe Sachers, Landtmanns, Demels and all the other "classic" Viennese places we tried, to absolute shame. Coming here for our last night in Vienna was a beautiful way to say goodbye to this amazing city. Having dined here makes me less sad that I am missing Osechi-ryoori (traditional Japanese New Years meal) at home with my parents. I highly recommend Shiki for a beautiful meal. I look forward to coming back someday.

Yelp
Do not order the bento box !! They did not make any of it fresh-- tasted like a buffet at best. You can tell it was very old. For the price - very bad value. The service was great though.

Yelp
Nice chic place in the heart of Vienna. They don't have the most authentic Japanese cuisine available in Vienna, but certainly do a very good job in a romantic and well-designed location. Plus the opening hours are very accommodating and not usual in Vienna: They practically open all the way from noon to midnight.

Yelp
Probably one of the worst sushi I've ever had. You might as well have sushi from a grocery store. The sushi is seasoned terribly, the nigri was minuscule, and it was far too expensive for bad sushi. This place should stick to the basics because this weird sushi was bad.

Yelp
A very nice place. The room in the front is beautiful and feels tranquil, lounge-like, maybe like the hip cafeteria of a well-designed modern art museum. The staff is attentive and pleasant without stiffness. The food was of excellent quality with a noticable love for flavor nuances. Many subtle spices and tastes took the food into interesting directions. From the brushed-on soy sauce on the perfectly cut nigiri pieces, to the saffron in the potato cream complimenting the juicy Loup de Mer. Even the Gelber Muskateller was a nice pick with not too much fruit. It was a great experience and I am looking forward to the next time.

Yelp
I visited this place for dinner. Very nice and classy ambience. You wouldnt know that this was a japanese place if not for the sushi chefs at the front of the restaurant. The food and ingredients were fresh and beautifully presented. If you are planning on visiting, dont expect a traditional japanese restaurant. Its a modern take on japanese ingredients, so the flavours are quite different from typical japanee cuisine. The menu items are also very different from a typical japanese restaurant. Slightly pricey in my opinion, but this is definitely a nice place to try if you are into fusion japanese food in a beautiful setting.

Yelp
Brasserie on one side and fine dining on the other (back). Neither fish nor fowl: Somewhat weird, experimental Austrian-Asian (Japanese? It is not! Don't bother trying the sushi!) cuisine. On top of everything quite pricey it is. Service is good but entirely un-Japanese.

Yelp
Stay away as this is the mother of all tourist traps. Even though the target group appears to be the local it is really the rich tourists strolling-by. Food is below average by any standard. The cut of the sushi is poor, only the ingredients (fish and rice) is good. Unfortunately even the service quality is not exactly the best in town either. Most eye-catching is the interior.
