SHIKI SUSHI

Great food and service! This place has a nice variety of sushi. The sushi tasted fresh and had good flavor. Oysters were okay. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The parking does get full closer to the restaurant for deliveries sometimes people park in ways that makes it hard to leave the parking spot. I recommend parking a bit down from the restaurant and walk there. Overall great place decent prices.

The cucumber and seaweed salad is a must. It's fresh and the portion is large. Edamame you can't go wrong with and it's so flavourful. I can't remember what the rolls were called but they were both really good. Service is impeccable as they are consistently checking up on you.

Excellent experience overall! Will be coming here again. Waiters were attentive and polite, and food was delicious. We did go around 7-7:30pm

This place is awesome! When I first went into this restaurant, they had a large menu. There were many items. Sushi, Miso soup, and a lot more stuff! I don’t really like fish, so, I just got a sushi roll with avocado, cucumber, and rice! I also got a miso soup. There were chefs cooking and it smelled really good! But it was a little cold in the seats that I was sitting at. I recommend this place to eat some Sushi and more stuff!

No wait, excellent food. Good service. Lovely atmosphere. Kind staff. Many sushi chefs. Found street parking because of busy nightlife next door... probably reducing the wait time for a last minute table on a Saturday night. Would recommend.

Shiki Sushi is awesome! The fish is fresh and the service is good. I like to sit at the sushi bar. Ask the chefs what’s fresh today and they’ll tell you what to try. I lived in Japan for 2 years and this place reminds me of places I loved in Japan. The omakase sushi dishes are really wonderful.

Do you love Sushi? I love Shiki. Great food. Great service. Great drinks. Reasonable prices. I go here at least once a month for fresh fish. What's a fish without an eye? FSH. The servers here did not get this joke, but they still laughed. Good enough for me. Just had 101 roll and tuna Popeye, which were delicious! Tuna melted in my mouth. 101 roll was well balanced. Nice.

This review is a long time coming, since I have been going to Shiki Sushi since they opened. I think they have been open for at least 15 years. I know this extensive menu from front to back. Their sushi is always fresh with nice sized cuts of fish. Their fusion rolls are so delicious and creative. Try the caterpillar roll, rolls royce, and the Ventura roll. Even though this is a sushi joint, their cooked Japanese food is just as amazing! I love their curry, yakisoba noodles (with beef or chicken), broiled collars (salmon or yellowtail), tempura, shrimp shu mai, calamari, teriyaki, hot stone options, literally everything is great. I eat or order take out here at least twice a week and never hesitate to take a guest or 20 when the occasion arrives. Big shout out to Riski and staff who always extend top notch service! The ambience is nice with semi outdoor space, sushi bar, or tables. The ambiance is nice for a dinner date or a business lunch. Major props to Shiki Sushi!

Shiki is the OG spot for the people in this community. I've been coming here to eat for over 20 years. Unfortunately, as the years went by, the roll sizes gradually got smaller, the real fun energetic vibe died off and the prices have increased. I've always been a fan of their Rolls Rolls cut roll and I ordered it today and it too, got like 25% smaller than 10 years ago. As customary to me, I replaced the California roll filling with spicy tuna filling. On top, you get tuna chunks with diced tomatoes mixed with their delicious thousand island-esque sauce. The roll withstood the time, the slight shrinkage and the price increase to actually still stay a very delicious roll. Each bite was truly yummy, with a lot of flavors hitting your taste buds for a home-run. The service there was okay, but the ambiance though requires improvement. Its 1 pm and the place inside is pretty dark. Also, didn't love the $31 price tag of the roll after spicy tuna upgrade and after tax and tip. Way too much. For that money, I'd consider something like Katsuya sushi for next time. Rolls Roys Roll though solely as a food item--definitely solid and kicks butt!

Though previous recent reviews were a sign, a friend wanted sushi for dinner somewhere other than our usual. Had been here in the past before the change of ownership. Yes it is loud when busy. Conversations just overpower the jazz in the room. Servers nevertheless made their best attempt to communicate as efficiently possible. The menu feels like your average roll house that has one or the other same topping, filling, or sauce, only to a new extreme. Spicy Tuna on crispy cakes was not bad. Not too spicy, not bland. The Baked mussels were ok. In addition to mayo and probably white wine, they have melted cheese which was not horrible but unnecessary. The seafood parts in general just did not taste great. Baby scallops and langostino were chewy and rubbery. Rolls come fat with filling to rice ratio but loosely rolled thus falling apart upon pick up is easy. Rice seasoning tasted ok. The one saving grace of the meal (that the servers either forgot to order from chefs or left waiting at the bar) got a proper tasting order of octopus, the main pieces topped with a strong dab of Yuzu hotsauce on each. Could do with less or none at all when the octopus flavor is good as is. Hot tea was served in large sized handle mugs, my only other positive note. Sadly to sum it up as others mentioned. Great photos on menu. Not great portions or taste compared to price.

Leaves a lot to be desired. If you're ordering through GrubHub they have serious Wow factor, but dining in feels very... after the kids holiday performance. It's not great service (a lot of chefs standing around, one waitress was literally on the phone talking about her plans for the night, two other waiters were literally laughing at their phones while take out orders piled up). Speaking of take out, if I place an order and it says ready in 30-50min and I show up at min 50 to see it sitting there while everyone else is just screwing off, yeah, I'm gonna ask you to bag it up. So when some 19 yr old tells me I should go back to wait in the lobby and "someone will be right with me" and then goes back to laughing at his phone, you'd better believe I'll start bagging it myself. All in all, LaLa's is better for a reason and right around the corner, but they don't open til 5 so that was my bad for compromising.

Sorry, but food is not good low-medium quality and I'm generous. No need weird sauce on the rolls, please cut it thinner & nicer, and bring out the appetizer before the main course. Overall a bit sad and disappointing, but it is what it is. Good luck guy's, wishing to sit here again but with brighter experience.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Shiki Sushi! Our favorites were the Philadelphia roll, the baked scallop roll, and the shishito pepper. The service was impeccable. The only downside was the Nigori Cloudy Strawberry sake - the bottle looked pretty, but the taste was disappointing, tasting more like watered down sugar than sake. Regardless, the quality of the food and service were excellent, making this a place we will definitely return to for more!

I am battling with whether or not I want to give Shiki Shiki a great review because I don't want anything to change. I don't crowds, I dont' want it to become Insta-famous. Sushi in Studio City, a parking lot (no need to valet) and great food and service. You'll find it all here at Shiki. Ask for recommendations, order blind from the menu, it's all that good.

Kind of hidden / tucked away, good ambiance inside. Sat at the bar and ordered directly from the chefs. All of the nigiri tasted fresh and delicious. Most of the rolls were solid, one was a bit bland. Yelp advertises this place provides free miso soup, though that was not my experience, perhaps because we were at the bar? Not sure. Parking was super easy, on a Friday night of all things, which I appreciated. Best thing was that this place was open later than other spots (til 11:30pm). Would definitely come back.

I am a fan. I ordered udon tempura, which is not a dish I often have. It was a big steaming bowl with a load of noodles and a full plate of vegetables and one shrimp. Yes, that would've been enough, but greedy me also ordered the beef gyoza. I usually have pork, but this one was exceptionally flavorful and crispy. A thoroughly enjoyable event, and my partner had an equally pleasant experience with his garlic edamame and a sushi roll that our waiter suggested but I was too busy eating to hear the name. It looked great though!

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in the valley. Always smacks! Unique menu, but they also have the greatest hits. Super inviting staff too. Always happy to be here!!

I haven't been here in a while and i have missed this place! Very relaxed ambiance, all the staff are friendly and help you (you don't have a specific waiter that does everything for you, it's more of a team effort). Food was delicious! There were so many options that looked amazing, it was hard to not over order. Shiki has such amazing rolls that for the first time I didn't get any sashimi, nigiri, or hand rolls. Side note* this is also a great place for large parties, they have a lot of seating.

Did not have a great experience here. Sushi was pretty bad, definitely not fresh. The whole baby octopus was like chewing gum. The sushi didn't have much flavor. The rolls had very poorly cooked rice and were overpriced for the quality. I would not go back here due to the lack of quality and flavor of the food. We sat at the sushi bar and the chef at the bar stared at us the entire lunch looking for satisfaction that was not there. Once we finished we abruptly left as it was very awkward having him stare at us the entire time.

I have been coming here for years and never had a bad meal - it is consistently good. There are many choices of rolls. The sushi chefs are very friendly and knowledgeable and well trained. Had the best tuna tartare I've ever had in LA here.

The main problem here was the loudness... People bring in their kids and wow was it an uncomfortable and uncontrollable situation. Yes - it's because the parenting was absent and the kids unruly - just selfishness at its core. There were multiple families with lots of kids. If you're childless, single, looking for a quiet dinner, peaceful and respectful this is no place for you. Honestly the waiter was not very attentive either. Maybe because he had to deal with constant kids spilling and throwing things... So - the food took a long time to arrive. The waiter didn't really come and check on us after we got our meal. But...when it was time to pay he was very attentive!

I've been coming here since I was a child in the 90s. Owners and management have changed many a time but waiter Rizki ("ruski") is still there, cracking us up with the Russian lingo he's acquired here from patrons throughout the years. The menu is large, lots of rolls to choose from if that's what you like. Some old some new. The Rolls Royce is a classic (no pun intended). This may or not be the first sushi roll I ever tried, and it still hits the spot. Under old ownership, it was definitely saucier and larger; I miss the Shiki with larger portions and lower prices, but I guess times have changed since then. Regardless, Shiki will always have a place in my heart.

Delicious sushi with an amazing variety of options. Service was super quick and our waiter helped with great recommendations. They do play music so if you are looking for a very quiet place that is one note I'd like to mention, it's not too loud but important to share. There is a large parking lot with free parking as well.

One of my fave sushi spots in the Valley! The amount of rolls and options they have is insane. Not to mention the free miso soup and little edamame they hand you when you sit down is so yummy ALWAYS get the spicy edamame!!!! This is the best appetizer to get- it's not too spicy for me but it's so delicious and better than regular. We always get the Crunch Roll, Spicy Rose, and Volcano but all the options are the best! The restaurant is usually very busy after 5pm but during the day it's calm! The japanese aesthetic inside is also cute and dark which I enjoy. The servers are all also very sweet and are helpful with anything. Shiki is def one of my top sushi places to go!

Place has changed ownership and chefs...used to be my favorite hood neighborhood spot but has completely gone downhill. Oil for tempura is old and rancid. You can taste it. Then the sashimi and nigiri sushi is not fresh. You can tell it's been frozen and thawed. Lost it's color and turning gray...Smelled like it's going bad and definitely mealy and texture was completely off and grainy doesn't melt in ya mouth like butter if ya know high end quality sushi. Nothing looked like in the menu photos. Went yesterday on Tuesday and got the tail end of fish about to go bad. Should've known better. So disappointed as I took colleagues there for first time for a quick lunch. My advice and to myself from now on...order one piece of nigiri to test the quality of fish if not good then leave.

Came here with my cousins and this was a great sushi place to eat! The ambiance is so cute with the Japanese decor and lighting. I ordered the bento box and it was definitely tasty, had great portions, and reasonably priced. The spicy garlic edamame and sushi tasted delicious and fresh! Excellent customer service. Would come back here again!

I have not been here in years. Parking is still easy, and I regret not getting salmon chunk. I tried a lot of items off the happy hour menu and they were fine but in hindsight, I should have just gotten the chunk roll I went there for. This place isn't the best sushi place on Ventura but it's really good for the price. Vibe is chill. Service was good as well.

Absolutely delicious sushi and very fast service. We were in and out within an hour. We got the amazing salmon roll (very fitting name) and the dragon roll. I'm obsessed with thin lemon slices on rolls, I think they compliment the flavors so well so I was a huge fan of the amazing salmon roll. Also I have to mention that I've never had water so delicious in my life, I know that sounds silly but I drank 3 cups of their water and asked for a to go cup. Not only am I returning for their sushi but definitely for their water too! ;)

Harim was a great server, I would definitely say that this place is on the higher end of 4 stars but the quality of the fish was not quite 5 stars as it wasn't as fresh as the fish at sugar fish, so I conclude that 5 stars would be the best sushi I ever had so I cannot give it 5 stars, the ambience is great, with less light coming into the place which I really like, the plating and cutlery look beautiful together, I highly recommend this spot! The price is amazing at around $21 a person, so I would say that this is the place to go which is why I give it 4.67 stars. This rounds to 5 stars so I am just gonna give them 5 because they deserve it! Also happy hour is practically all day and they stay open late you gotta love this place I'm actually gonna give them 4.8 stars. The sushi also needs more sushi vinegar as the rice is relatively dry, however by adding these things it would make the perfect 5 star attraction! This amazing place is truly one of the best spots on the map. And the service is great!!!!! The price is amazing 10/10. Fish 7/10. Design & Ambience 7.5/10 , the fish has a nice after taste though compared to a lot of other places. Thanks, Esteemed Reviewer

All I can say good about this place is that it's not very expensive, but the fish is always stale. Every other time I went there I got food poisoning.

Quiet disappointing compare to the quality, service, and the cleanliness of the restaurant. The ambiance is not so fancy anymore and more like a spot for family gathering , loud and honestly fish quality not fresh nor sushi grade. It definitely doesn't compare to the pictures you see on their website. It was my last time stepping in that restaurant.

Last minute date night idea, my boyfriend and I were craving sushi and this place popped up. It's a bit hidden within the plaza where it's located but the ambiance is nice and the service was pretty great. It was a slow night so perhaps that helped but the servers were quick and the food was delicious! We had the spicy edamame 10/10, deep friend calamari 4/10 (kind of rubbery), and I had a salmon tempura roll in soy paper (10/10). Overall, I'd come back.

As someone who lived in NY for 21 years, decent sushi is so hard to come by. This is one of my favorite spot in LA by far, amazing prices with really good food can't be beat. Their lunch specials are amazing too with SO much food. The staff is always nice and welcome you in when you sit down and it feels like a at home Japanese style restaurant ( Of course ). Really recommend going here for lunch or dinner.

ALLERGIES! I SPECIFICALLY ordered takeout dishes with NO SHRIMP because I'm DEADLY allergic! Unfortunately I got home to discover that one dish was FILLED with shrimp! Don't know if the orders got switched or it was just plain wrong. I spent 49 minutes reading the selection descriptions to avoid just such a thing. Paid for something that not only had to be thrown away but removed from the house. Well at least I know my epi pen works. Thanks for a super expensive, horrible weekend and a trip to emergency room.

The amount of food for the money paid is not bad, but the fish is never fresh and the parking is very bad. And it's very dark there at night. There is a homeless camp next to them and it is scary to go there.

Nothing much to say other than the sushi is really good. Came with a group of 5 and got the Samurai boat, which got us all full for like $35 each- which we would have spent or more if we ordered individual rolls until we got full. Service was decent. Overall good time, will be returning.

Decided to come here for lunch after not having eaten here for more than 9 years. Lunch time was great because there was hardly anyone there. Service was great and extremely fast. I ordered beef gyoza and the spicy tuna crunch which consists, most prominently, of diced tuna and tomatoes atop crispy wonton skins. The beef gyoza was pretty good and include 6 of them. As for the spicy tuna crunch, although it was good, it wasn't great. I don't think their quality is as good as other places. Also, I think I'm just spoiled when it comes to tuna. Katsyu's tuna is so damn good, it has ruined my ability to truly enjoy it anywhere else. However, putting that aside, everyone was very friendly. They have a huge selection of menu items and I would definitely return.

Just had the best Bento box I've ever had. Place is Amazing.. good quality ingredients, generous portions, and just some good Japanese food. Excited to try some different things on the menu next time.

Dun, dun duuun! .. I hate to only give it two star's because we've had so many yummy memories here,... but the last time I ate here I was feeling adventurous and requested one of the rolls with Eel on it to try something new. I was sick with stomach cramps that lasted three weeks.. what happened?

It was my first time here. My boyfriend and I came here for an early lunch. We actually found this place on the top results on Yelp. thought we should try it. The food was really good. Very fresh. We got a variety of items to try. I posted some photos so you can see it. Their service was wonderful. Our waiter was very attentive. We always had somebody checking in on us. The food got to us pretty quickly. When we got there around noon, it wasn't really busy. All the employees are very nice. The place was very nice. I really like the decorations and the design of the restaurant. They do have a couple bathrooms. The restroom could've been cleaned up a little more than it was but it is a nice bathroom. There's two parts to the Restaurant. It is definitely much bigger than it looks. I actually don't eat sushi. Are usually get the cucumber or avocado rolls. Any type of chicken, rice, tempura, or other me. My boyfriend got all the sushi and he really liked it. The only thing I wish, is that they had a little more flavor on the sesame chicken. I expected it to maybe have some type of sauce on it. But it was a dryer type of chicken with a dipping sauce. It wasn't too bad, but I wish it had a little more flavor to it. we also got the teriyaki chicken to go. They gave us a really good portion and it's really good. I felt like the price was pretty fair at this restaurant. For the amount of food that we got, and the good service, it was really reasonable. I will definitely be back to this location. I can't believe I never even realized it was around. I don't even live that far from it. I highly recommend that you try this place. I wish I can give you more information on the actual sushi, but I can always take my boyfriends word for it as he is a huge sushi lover!!

Right across this place while doing a little shopping in the valley. A little difficult to find since it's tucked into the back of a strip mall on Ventura but the parking was not as bad as we were thinking it was gonna be. The place itself is clean, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the Decour was decent. Honestly, when it comes to sushi restaurants in Ventura, they all follow a general aesthetic when it comes to decor. The menu was full of sushi and a number of rules. The idea behind the rules were pretty common with a couple of rules that seem to have their own flare. Decided to try the kings roll, hot knight roll and yellowtail special. Honestly there was nothing special about the rolls. And sadly they all fell apart when you picked them up. The fish was fresh at least. The prices were decent also considering the location. More than likely won't be back.

Food was delicious, service was great. The restaurant was really busy considering the holiday, and everyone was kind and clearly working very hard. Cesar was our server and he was hustling (!!!!!!!) and still managed to take great care of us and give great service despite how busy it was. Will definitely be returning!!!!!

I went here yesterday and got a bad case of food poisoning. I called to let them know, but there was no manager. I gave them my number so that a manager would call me today and no one has. Apparently they aren't too concerned about it, but maybe next time your fridge is out in a heatwave, maybe they should close instead of serving raw fish. Just a thought! *fast forward to Wednesday evening, I had to call and ask to speak to the manager myself and he did not care at all that his food made me violently ill. Unless you want to fully detox, I recommend going elsewhere! Management did nothing to even attempt to make this right.

Always amazing service! They are so on it here! Food is always delicious too. At dinner they serve you complimentary miso soup, edamame & bean Sprouts, super yummy! They don't take reservations and they get pretty busy later at night so I'd suggest if you're a larger party trying to get there a bit earlier.
