I've been to a lot of Shipley's, but this location puts all others to shame. Hands down -the- best kolaches of any Shipley's. Every donut (and their kolaches, of course) I've had has been shockingly fresh, even when stopping by after noon. Whatever they are doing at this location, the rest of franchise needs to take note.

Went in for a half dozen at 5 pm and ask for a fresh half dozen. And they made them for me. The North Main location is the original I believe and it's the best location in town.

Mama Janie is so helpful especially as early as we go at 6 in the morning. She's always greeted us with good attitude and we always look forward to seeing her keep up the good Ms Janie love longtime shipley's customers ❤️

Always get the apple fritters, this time tried the ham kolache, which wasn’t to me, and we tried the bold jalapeno sausage kolache and it was quite tasty. We tried delivery and none of the costs were reasonable. Much better to go in person.

Was going to purchase until I saw the guy picking up donuts and dressing them with various frostings. Then dipping them in toppings all with his bare hands (see pic). It's unsanitary to not wear gloves. Yuck!!

Your run of the mill Shipley. Had some homeless people around but didn't bother anyone and it isnt the establishments fault. They had every flavor of donut i needed and coffee was hot! They heated everything up for me!

I have been a customer of this location for years. As of recently, the most loved items(chocolate donut holes) of mine have been unavailable. In the winter months, it used to be every 4 hrs a new batch of glazed, would be fresh, hot and ready. Now, it's whenever which is NOT the same at all. Some things should stay the same.

New ownership has ruined my childhood place I loved so dearly!!! I been coming here since i was a baby everyone that use to work here were amazing kind woman and men even the owner he was always smiling, hands on with his crew. It has broke my heart learning that ALL the woman that I grew up Seeing everyday have left because the manager was unfair with them.. I was told "JORGE" is his name and I just want to say "you lost a lot of great woman!!!" Also sir pick up the pace your morning shift is SLOW SLOW SLOW!!!

I love my Shipley's on N. Main. I've been going there for over a decade, and the kolaches and donuts are always fresh & delicious. The real secret sauce is the people. All of the women at the counter have been there for a long time and they love their customers. It's nice to walk in & be greeted by friends. They're why it's MY Shipley's.

l use to love love coming here but since it has recently changed owners now it's not even worth it.The kolaches are so TINY for $2.79 like come on at least lower the price if I'm going to finish in two bites.I also went this past Saturday evening for hot donuts and as I was ordering the young lady there was just staring at me as I was ordering obviously did not understand me due to "not knowing English"she said so a older woman came to help and as I was leaving her and another young lady were just laughing, I did not see what was funny. Shipley's Do-Nuts have many, many locations however, they don't have locations like N. Main does! This staple of the community has been here since as long as I can remember. The Kolache's here are extremely unique from the other chains of locations. They are almost like eating a warm fresh bread roll with whatever your choice of filling on the inside. I typically get the sausage & cheese. Super hot melty cheese when you bite into them and since they're small I usually order 2-3. The donut holes here are HUMUNGOUS! Super huge and fulfilling. The best donut on the menu is the classic glaze because they serve them hot & fresh they literally melt in your mouth. You can even watch them make the food in front of you. I enjoy the staff it's always the same people when I go, they've just recently added a new drive thru menu on the outside. Try this location in particular you will not regret it! Love this location forever!

theft report! over charged me for kolaches and refused to give me a refund. terrible service! dont come! they have new ownership and have been terrible since. go to the shipley's on ella blvd.

customer service is terrible I went there two time at 7:50 and the lobby is close n they want me to walk to the drive up. I'm on a Bus and there is no way I could do that.

Avoid this location at all cost ! I use to be a regular here but ever since they were bought out a few months ago & new ownership has taken over THIS IS NO LONGER THE BEST SHIPLEY's !!! Better off spending your money at the ELLA location ! They have raised the prices, the kolaches are no longer hot (they now make large batches & keep them in the "warmer" but that makes them dry, the cheese hard & the bread chewy ) ! I also went there on 5/25/24 & walked out because there was a large fly on the kolaches they were prepping on a tray they left on the counter. I hate the new owners ruined a Houston staple ! Trust me when I say, don't waste your money at this location ! The new ownership has literally made this location from a 5 star to 1 star in a matter of months !

I love their kolaches but they are always out of ham and cheese and sausage and cheese. This is the 3rd time in 2 months I couldn't get this. It's 8:15am on a Thursday. I know they get a lot of large orders but don't forget about the stay at home moms that want them too.

Ive been coming here since my children were small and now they are 30 & 25. Now i bring my seven year old grand daughter. The staff and service excellent. The family air in the building is awesome. The absolute best shipley in Houston.

This is a unique place. The colacheese are unlike other Shipley's. The staff here is very friendly with everyone that arrives. The doughnuts are always freshly made. I would definitely recommend to anyone who's looking for good fresh doughnuts or colacheese.

If you are a fan of good donuts then you know shipleys is the best in town. The absolute best! I was also told that this is the location that started it all. The original founding location. They are open 24 hours. How cool is that ! When I was a kid growing up in the area I would always see cops there. I guess cops really do like donuts lol. The glaze Donut is one of the best donuts you wilL ever eat. They are so much better than dunkIn and Krispy Kreme. This is a houston classic. Every time my sister comes home from California this is one of her Many must stops. Houston simply put has the best food in Houston. If you have people from out of town this is a must try for them. You will get them hooked. Great job guys! I will continue to visit all of your locations in the southern region.

So traveling to this location is like 25-30 minutes from the house but honestly it's well worth it! I grew up coming to this Shipleys when I stayed closer. Very familiar with the family that runs this location. Now I've tried other locations, tasting to see if their kolaches could match to the one-off main street and honestly none of them can even get the bread as mouth watering as they do. So today I ordered two sausage and cheese kholaches, donut holes, two grape juices and two plain cake donuts. Everything was fresh as always and made to perfection. I plan to keep coming to only this location! Also customer service is amazing! They have made all walk in customers feel comfortable with the measures taken due to covid -19. I appreciate the hard work and diligence to make me feel welcome since I was baby until now! Thank You!

Doughnuts are not any good hardly any glaze. My kids just ate the tops off the strawberry ones.

We are visiting Houston for the weekend and saw this place on our way to a BBQ place and decided to stop. We got a glazed, filled Bavarian chocolate bar, chocolate with sprinkles and chocolate glazed and all were great. Super fluffy and airy with the perfect amount of sweetness. The original glazed was warm and the prices were great! Defiantly worth the stop!

Every time I come here they've taken Apple Pay and the ladies have been so nice. Neither of us to other ladies there that very unhappy and very much like they're lying to me they said they no longer take Apple Pay and I don't know any place on earth but stopping Apple Pay almost every place is starting to use it . With crossed arms they both looked through the window and then l could feel there eyes go up and down me in the most filthy of ways leaving me with this feeling of having no right to come to this shipleys. I've got to say a polar opposite experience And every single other time I've been to this place otherwise it would be a one star rating.

Stay away from this place from 8-830am. I have gone more than five times in different weeks and they never have kolaches. Either they are in the oven with a 10 min wait or sometimes they just say we ran out.

I love Shipley donuts when they are hot! My only criticism of this business is that they don't have a sign in front like Krispy Kreme letting customers know when hot donuts are out. Nevertheless, you can see the cook bringing out hot donuts from the front of the storefront. Not as good, but it works. My favorite donut is the apple fritter. I have never tasted a better one anywhere else. They also sell warm kolaches in the morning. And, the coffee is always hot and fresh. The downside is that their employees can be unfriendly.

The lady who works drive thru window is always in a rush and never lets you finish saying your order before closing the window !

Bought 3 donuts found a roach in one cooked into donut called to let them know and employe gave me attitude horrible service

Stopped in to get a donut for myself and ended up taking a dozen home. The service was quick and easy. A plethora of donuts. I ordered the cinnamon roll and man was it warm and tasty. I recommend giving it a chance.

Cons: hubby was not impressed. He got the jalapeño Kolache. Thought there was too much dough. I had to agree. This Kolache was more doughy than usual. Pros: I told him to get the hot glaze. Shipley's has the best hot glazed.

Their glazed donut with strawberry jam filling was so good! Not too sweet and just the way I like it. Their boudin kolaches were okay, I would prefer if the sausage was wrapped with a flaky croissant-like dough more. But I do recommend getting the jalapeño sausage with cheese, if you like spicy.

What's the deal with this location? Their donuts and kolaches are the best, WHEN THEY HAVE THEM, which is never. Want a kolache on a weekend after 9am? It will not happen. And they will not tell you that they're out until you've already stood in line for 10 minutes. Want to hit up the drive thru on the way to work so you can surprise you coworkers with a dozen glazed? It probably won't happen because they'll run out of every single donut. And if you're as unlucky as I have been on more than one occasion, you'll get stuck in the drive thru and be completely unable to get out because the cars in front are willing to wait 20 minutes for the donuts to be available again and then you're late for work. What I truly can't understand is WHY management hasn't come here and read 30 identical complaints and decided to do something about it? Why can't they keep up with customer demand? Maybe it's because hoards of people, like myself, are willing to return and suffer through the ineptitude because the donuts and kolaches are really the best... When we can get them, that is.

I have been going to the Shipley's on bissonnet for many years now. And I have really enjoyed your donuts. Only the 2 to 3 times I have been the donuts have been not baked well, and the filling tastes different from usual like the bevarian cream which had a slightly different taste to it. It was dissapointing. They should really keep up with management and their employees training and baking supplies, and do their best to keep that great donut taste they have had for many years. I also received a donut with a hole in one side and that was also upsetting. The glazed donut needed to be better and have also had a taste like it had been licked on before it was given to me or were wet with some kind of liquid or water.. I did not appreciate it. Also the packaging for my glazed donuts was prepared wrong and I again did not like the presentation. Again I am hoping for a better baker and cashier. Thank you for your time.

Went through drive thru and lady working window was very rude and couldn't wait for our complete order and then got our very complicated order ( 3 items ) wrong. Wrong order, no napkins , no thank you. Will go to Ella Blvd Shipley's from now on. This one needs staff retrained.

Listen up, people! This is still a FAMILY OWNED Shipley's, NOT a franchise. So, they do things a bit differently here. On Saturdays and Sundays, this Shipley's makes BOUDIN KOLACHES. Really. Hand rolled kolaches stuffed with a boudin sausage stuffing. Sure, the kolaches are fried and not baked, but in this case, it results in a rich, sometimes crispy exterior. The boudin could also be a bit spicer, which would be better to my tastes. However, a rich, delicious flavour and intensity that one does not usually associate with a donut shop. Check it out on your way to The Farmer's Market or as an appetizer before you go to Asia Market for some Papaya Salad. A worthy nosh! And only $.95. Saturday and Sunday only.

One of the outstanding donut stores in Houston. Sat and Sun they sell the amazing Boudain kolachies. Get there before 10am and you can pick them up. Gotta ASK for them at the counter. They used to be cash only , but are now accepting credit card transactions, but only when it's over $5. Also the glazed donuts are amazing, they usually pull the hottest freshest ones straight outta the cooling trays. Delish! Definitely not a place to miss. Go and check out. Enjoy!

Hygiene hygiene hygiene , the basis of the food industry . I have never seen any other place not use gloves . Unfortunately I was starving and ate all my donuts before seeing this . The only form of sanitation I saw( not) was them yawning a dirty white towel to wipe their hands . This is so disgusting

Came here to try the boudin kolaches as several friends have mentioned them. They allowed me to call in an order for pickup, thus I didn't have to worry about a dwindling supply. I don't know why people say their service is bad - I thought they were cordial and efficient. The line moved quickly and I was in, out, and on my way. The boudin kolaches are truly legitimate. Just the right amount of spiciness to go with the subtle sweetness of the kolache dough. I recommend that everyone try them at least once. Again, only served on weekends, and only while supplies last.

This is the worst Shipley's I have been to. We came around a late hour probably midnight on a Thursday. I wasn't expecting there to be a plethora of choices but have been to another location that usually is able to serve what I order. When we arrived they had no kolaches and no cakes donuts. I couldn't understand the clerk clearly because she was mumbling and what my friend and I both heard her say was blueberry fields donut. I asked her what a "blueberry fields" donut was and she snapped at me and told my friend to explain to me what she was saying like I was mentally challenged. When she clearly annunciated blueberry FILING I was able to understand. In conclusion, customer service is very poor and they didn't have anything I actually wanted to order.

I went pretty many times there, but at the last time they were worse and I think won't go here soon. I was there last time on Monday and ordered like usually donuts, but I had to be to hang on 30 minutes. It was terrible! If you ready a long time to wait and to get not enough tasty food I advice to visit it. But if you want to get a really good impression, you must find other a place. Only 3 stars for a past experience, and nothing more!

My husband has talked about this place since I met him. He always compares every donut place we e have visited to Shipleys - this is his barometer. And now that I have visited, I understand why. We are glazed donut eaters, not the other fancy donut types. These were heaven. He also LOVES the kolaches here. They dont serve many kolaches in Atlanta and while I am not the biggest fan, they are really good here!! Will make this a must stop by on my next visit!!

This is the worst Shipley's I've ever been to. They are always out of kolache unless you want boudin. The lines are super long and they seem to always give you the stale donuts from the day before. I can't wait for that new Shipley's to open so I can enjoy kolaches again. Not worth your time to go to this location.

Good doughnuts and it's open 24hours and they are nice one time they gave me a free donut and they give me donuts when it hallowing and all you have to do is say trick or treat and they give you something good to eat there nice so now but there sasages could be better

What 24/7 breakfast place stops making kolaches on sundays? I come here at least 3x a month, and every time I have to wait for kolaches because they never have enough. Normally I wait 10 min or so, but today my boyfriend just got attitude from an employee that says they don't make them on sundays after a certain time. I hate that your kolaches are so addicting and great bc your customer service is deplorable. Staying away for a while.

Rude as all hell. Came here on a Sunday night and asked for a dozen mixed donuts. This was met with a rude tone by the woman behind the counter who looked annoyed and asked "but which ones, you have to tell me which ones, I need the names." Uh, when I ask for a dozen mixed I mean MIX them up with whatever. I was so taken aback I named six and said I changed my mind about wanting a dozen. At that point I just wanted to leave. She may have sensed I was pissed off because she tried to be fake nice which is even more awful but at that point I really couldn't muster a "have a good night" as she had totally ruined mine. Never again.

I have been going to this location since i was about 4 years old, and i'm 20 now. The employees at this location that i have known my whole life are some of the SWEET, MOST GENUINE, KIND HEARTED people that i know. They are not RACIST, or RUDE to anyone. When i was younger they made going to school so much better by giving me those few minutes of love when i would stop to get breakfast. Not only are they amazing people but they also make some damn good do nuts. I have never gone to any other shipleys for kolaches because they can't top this locations. I only got on here because i saw some negative comments about the location and thought i would set the record straight for some of yall. The people at this store are my family and i'm gonna drive over now to see them. Y'all should too.

Some urban legends exist to serve as warnings against things like picking up strangers or answering the phone while babysitting and some serve to remind you that your neighbors are enjoying a delightful treat without you. The Boudin Kolaches have been the talk of the neighborhood since I moved to the area. Served only on the weekend and only served until they run out they simply had to be myth. So when my husband said he was going to hop on his bike and head over to the best Shipley's in town at 7am on a Saturday I knew it was now or never. Well my friends the myth is true. The kolaches are amazingly delicious with the right amount of spice and a soft pillow of baked goodness surrounding the sausage. So worth it to get up early and make the trek. You can use a card if you order over $5, which at a Shipley's is actually a challenge. The drive thru is often slow so it is best to head inside, early, to get you some of those boudin kolaches!

The best Shipley in town if you ask me, and for one reason only: the boudin kolaches are fantastic. Their kolache bread is a little lighter and sweeter than other locations in town, and the boudin is spicy, but not so much that you wouldn't wnat to have it at 9:30 AM. This is my favorite Shipley's (just east of he Heights)! No long rant about Shipley's history in Houston, or Shipley's versus Krispy Kreme. Just Hot fresh donuts all the time and great service from the smiling staff. Minus one star for not taking credit cards (but I'm just picky that way).

[CASH ONLY] A local food critic recently named the boudin kolaches at this Shipley's Donuts as one of his top 100 dishes of food to eat in Houston. Skimming the list, seeing that I had tried only five of these dishes, and looking for something to bring with me to a Saturday at St. Arnold's Brewery, I decided I would try said kolaches. But be forewarned: as I came to learn, the boudin kolaches are only sold on weekends, and they sell out quick. In fact, I bought the last seven this past Saturday, and, if I hadn't been paranoid that I'd see them again, I would have directed a maniacal, mad-scientist laugh at all the people waiting in line behind me. I also bought an apple fritter because, like Prometheus giving man fire, I have loved apple fritters since my mom gave me my first one. I could only eat part of the apple fritter because it was big. Unlike the cheaper apple fritters that you get at grocery stores, there was no too-gooey, from-the-can apple filling inside. This Shipley's fritter provided a nice balance between apple and pastry. Had I not had a box of kolaches in the back of my car and my doctor's voice warning me about diabetes in my head, I would have eaten the whole thing. The boudin kolaches were AMAZING. The boudin inside was spicy and melted in my mouth. And it was surrounded by a buttery and flaky breading. It's hearsay, but my friend claimed after her first bite that these were the best kolaches she's ever had in her life. Other things I noticed that I liked about this Shipley's: they have a drivethru, you can actually see them making the food, and everyone working there was really friendly. [/CASH ONLY]

This is probably the worst Shipley's I've ever been to in Houston. They donuts are always hard, dark colored looking and not fresh at all. This is the only Shipley's that taste different their kolaches aren't like most Shipley's here they're very sweet and small at the other locations the kolaches are twice as big with a different kind of bread. My total was $5 the girl charged my card $50 lol who gets $50 worth of donuts at Shipley's? Had to wait a week to get my money back. My all time favorite Shipley's is off Ella and 610 they make your donuts when you order them it's always fresh and hot and I highly recommend them.
