Tried Shipley today for the first time. The cashier greeted me immediately and asked what I wanted. I told her I just needed a few minutes. I proceeded to order a cherry donut, a cinnamon roll, a breakfast kolache, a small iced coffee to-go, and a small hot coffee to-go.
The cashier got my pastries and kolache, and she proceeded to get the coffees. The hot coffee came from a basic drip coffee pot that you'd find in most diners. The cold coffee came from an iced tea cistern that you'd find in most chain restaurants.
I will say that I felt that the price was reasonable for the quantity of items (I paid 11 something including tip).
As I bit into the breakfast kolache (which includes only sausage and cheese), I immediately noticed that the sausage was basically a link still within its sausage casing. The cheese was a small squirt of artificial cheddar. The only bearable part was the bread, but it was nothing to write home about.
The cherry donut? Just red icing on a basic donut. No cherry flavor whatsoever.
The hot coffee? Never have I had coffee so burnt to a crisp. I couldn't even pretend to enjoy it.
My girlfriend said the iced coffee also tasted burnt; however, the cinnamon roll was fairly good.
I personally won't be returning to Shipley's Do-nuts. There are simply enough local restaurants to purchase a tastier breakfast with REAL coffee. Seriously, how does Shipley open, serve sub-par coffee in a coffee town, serve sub-par pastries in a city with a sweet tooth, and expect to stay open? Ship on out, Shipley. You're outshined by District Donuts, Baker's Dozen, Station Coffee, etc.
