The Best Jewish Bakeries in NYC | Eater NY

"In Borough Park, a group of innovative kosher Jewish bakeries — all located within a few blocks of each other around 13th Avenue and 51st Street —are bringing quality ingredients and baking techniques to traditional Jewish dessert forms. Notably, while all bakeries provide classic treats like the rugelach, each brings a distinct perspective to their menu. Shloimy’s Heimishe Bakery, one of the more established businesses in the group, is a great representative. Bite through one of their rugelach and their stamp is clear: The neat and tightly rolled dough is dense, chewy, and very subtly sweetened, unlike some of the more traditional rugelach." - John Tsung

Nice sourdough bread and pastries. Challah bread and rugullah. Coffe is good...The staff and customers are respectful. 6/14/25. I always go back for great coffee and wonderful bakes. Bagel and cream cheese was delicious.

Great addition to the neighborhood! Ice coffee for $1.50 is unbeatable. $3 made to order sandwiches, and cheap freshly baked pastries, make this place the perfect breakfast/lunch place.

Google
Helpful staff, a great variety of baked goods and the best cheesecake. My only complaint is that they used to make a small round personal sized cheesecake that they have stopped making for some reason. It was the size of a large cupcake i guess. They were so perfect for grabbing on the way home to have after supper. PLEASE BRING BACK THE BABY CHEESECAKES!!!

Yelp
After searching for years, I've finally found the bakery that fills the air with chocolate pastries while I waited for the train every morning. Literally... my nose lead the way. The bakery was bright, clean, and very organized. Two ladies behind the counter greet you as you enter chocolate heaven. They sell everything from rugelach (many flavors) to challah bread. All of their baked goods are fresh! They definitely use high quality ingredients. I could taste it. I could imagine biting into their chocolate rugelach as I type this review. Yes, my mouth is watering. I'm definitely going to try their challah bread next time I visit. If you're in the neighborhood, definitely check this bakery out! You will love!

Yelp
The baked goods were nothing special. But the most alarming thing was that bread products were for customers to grab themselves, with no handles available. When asked how to take it, I was told to use paper. At which point I saw a customer grab the rolls with his bare hands. That's just plain gross.

Yelp
Great challah amazing rugelach and their light fluffy chiffons (chocolate or marble ) are not to be missed ! Also don't miss out on the onion and olive rolls ; sheer perfection.

Yelp
I have been a very long and faithful customer of Shlomys, for years. Not only personal but business, charitable events and my schools. Shlomys has donated to the community over and over. Even in his times of need, you can always count on Shlomy! Until DAISY. This nasty Goyta whose Anti-semitism cannot be masked. If she doesn't like Yidden and makes fun of our Yiddish, than why work in a Jewish Bakery in the Heart of the Jewish community? Yes, I understand your Spanish. There are many of us that speak and UNDERSTAND Spanish. Even your co-workers are discouraged with your lack of work ethic. I am a loyal customer. However I will not accept the constant abuse from DAISY! Sadly to say, I have taken my personal and professional business elsewhere. All the best Shlomy.

Yelp
The place in Brooklyn NY for Kosher baked goods. Pardon the spelling....this is going to be a butcher job. I have had several different items. The place is extremely clean, very impressed. The ruggelah is great, very fresh several varieties The mandel bread is outstanding. Fresh..perfect level if crunch. The wide variety of cakes makes this bakery very special. I have purchased, strawberry shortcake, tiramisu, and black and white. All were excellent. The bagels werent as good as I had hoped, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside....one criticism is that I think the dough needs salt. They have a few different types of cream cheese (no butter) tuna and egg salad for a nice sandwich. They have a large variety of breads and rolls. 4 stars instead of 5 for the employees who by their attitude would love to be somewhere else.

Yelp
The best bakery in the area and I'm really honest now this is by far the best out there. There coffee is also really fresh, the manager is really nice guy and always trys to go a extra step for the customers. Try their best rugelach, napoleons, cheese ring, challah and many more delicious baked goods! Yum! I think I'm heading there now... Thanks shlomies! We by here every week!

Yelp
I met the owner and his family on the streets of Williamsburg on Purim. I was looking for hamentashen, but all of the bakeries around me were closed. I walked up to this couple and asked where I could find hamentashen, and he told me he owned a bakery and had hamentashen upstairs. His family prepared a bag for me and treated me with such kindness that is so special and rare! Please treat this business well - great treats with even greater people making them! Thank you for your kindness, sir. A true mensch!

Yelp
Shlomie's is a great Kosher Bakery that's conveniently located off the 50th Street stop on the D train. They have water and egg Challas that are always light and fluffy. They make the best Hamentachen in Brooklyn and make a good Rugelach too. One caveat. If you're going for Challah, go early on a Friday. It's a mob scene the closer you get to sundown!

Yelp
If u are looking for authentic baked goods, baked on the premises this is the place to be. They are not cheap but u get such amazing tasty treats. Thur is a day they make challah, which is the best ever. U can't find better challah except for a home from s mom in Boro park:) I love this place n have been going there for years.
