Haven't been to Shorty's in years. Happy to report it's still great! Lots of affordable lunch specials. We got two half racks for $29 with sides included (baked potato, corn bread, cole slaw & corn). Safe to say it was a LOT of food. BBQ sauce was on point. Ribs were good but was hoping for more fall off the bone action. Friendly service. Recommend you try it out if you haven't already & come hungry! 😀🍖

This is hands down one of my favorite spots for ribs. Whenever someone mentions ribs, this is the first place that comes to mind. I came earlier this week to celebrate my dad’s birthday, and as always, it didn’t disappoint. We ordered the family meal (meant for 4), and even with 5 of us, we had plenty of food and leftovers to take home. Our server, Nadia, was kind and attentive throughout the meal. Great food, great service, and a great time overall!

I have eaten here a few times over the years. Good bbq, pretty good ribs, even good chicken & fish. It’s rustic looking, but plenty of tv’s to watch sports. They also have frozen bananas covered in chocolate whether just the chocolate, or other options like peanuts, rainbow sprinkles, coconut, & strawberries. Pepsi products, as well as tea, lemonade, & fruit punch.

Shorty's BBQ in Davie is a local staple that delivers classic, smoky barbecue in a laid-back, family-friendly setting. Their baby back ribs are char-grilled with their signature sweet BBQ sauce. The combo platters are generous, pairing favorites like brisket, pulled pork, and hickory-smoked chicken with sides such as coleslaw and golden fries. The atmosphere is nostalgic and welcoming, and the service is friendly. Instagram - @thesofloduo

Good dish options I recommend the corn bread and ribs racks. Could improved green food as vegetable, not only salads.

Google
It was hard to focus on the food because I was too annoyed with the pointless restrictions on what what combos you could order. You can only add chicken to another bbq dish. Did you want brisket and baby back ribs? Forget it. Pulled pork and spare ribs? Dream on. You could change the sides, thankfully, but for an up charge. Food was mediocre. Corn bread was dry, and the bbq beans were trash. Baby back ribs and brisket were so-so. Not exactly dry (the meat fell off the bone, after all) but not juicy like other places I've been. You have to drowning everything in sauce to enjoy it. My daughter's hamburger was like leather. Lastly, they're famous corn is only good because they use a whole stick of melted butter. The corn itself was nothing special. I didn't bother with dessert, I had lost any desire to try it. On the plus side, service was nice. Only 2 servers for the whole restaurant but they did their best.

Google
I posted my review based on my better half food, since I didn't order anything after the hostess told me I couldn't drink my own beverage in the restaurant (I'm allergic, and I'm bringing my natural juice to any restaurant, because even the water makes me feel bad). Well, big portions (he asked for a box for the half of the meat. Bfast) french fries without flavor, the meat was tender, tasty and juicy, coleslaw was fresh. Funny to see the bbq sauce in a salt/pepper container, a little gross to be honest. If you like to eat in a darker atmosphere, this is your place. He paid $21.18 including tip.

Google
We absolutely love shorty’s BBQ. Every time we are in the area we have to stop by and enjoy the food. This time they were running a special: baby back ribs for 2 with all the fixings for $25.99. It was delicious as always. Ribs are so juicy, tender, flavorful, and fall off the bone. The key lime pie is the best.

Yelp
"Shorty's Barbecue is hands-down one of my favorite spots--not just for the amazing food, but also for their top-notch rewards program. Their burger is seriously one of the best I've ever had: juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection every time. If you haven't signed up for their rewards yet, you're missing out on great deals and exclusive offers. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the food always hits the spot. Whether you're a regular or visiting for the first time, Shorty's never disappoints!" Less than $20 for the burger fries and a large Arnold Palmer

Yelp
This is the 3rd time in as many moths that ate at Shorty's. First time ordered BBQ 1/2 chicken. Brett was as dry as burnt wood. I let it slide. On second visit I mentioned my last visit to waitress and asked her to make sure breast wasn't dry. They served me and was worse than first time. I asked waitress to change breast for a thigh. Today on my last visit was ground hog day again. Breast was overcooked and couldn't even chew it. I used to enjoy Shorty's but that's no more. Will not be coming back here again. you're out!

Yelp
First let me say I love Shorties and wish there was one in Jensen Beach. My last visit however was not great. The ribs I think should've had a better sear or grill look to them. In addition they were not very meaty at all. My ribs had a little bit of bbq sauce on it- not what I was looking for. The coleslaw is my absolute favorite but I'm thinking they make it at the restaurant because consistency is somewhat hit or miss. What I got had way too much 'sauce'. Big disappointment as I get ribs from this location and drive them 2 hours North. For $50 or so this was a huge disappointment. These ribs have been my alternative to Flanagan's but must say- Flanagans ALWAYS delivers amazing ribs- and Shorties not so much. Btw- the one on Bird Road usually does very well.

Yelp
Stopped in by chance and was not disappointed. Excellent brisket burger and my favorite French fries "crinkle cut". Cooked to perfection.

Yelp
Mediocre bbq that has a taste that is not as good as the other place in town. The sauce tasted like something I could get in a jar at the supermarket. The ribs were very fatty, not meaty. Service was fast and pleasant. It is not a bad restaurant. Just not a really good one.

Autumn H.

Yelp
Dry and bland do not recommend, the staff was nice but the food was not good or seasoned, the atmosphere is also a bit unsettling.

Yelp
Shorty's barbecue has to be one of the worst barbecues that I had and all of my life no seasoning on the barbecue at all it tasted real dry real mid yeah one out of 10 for sure and I won't be back. Service is cool to make sure that I got everything I needed and the ambience why I didn't go inside and after trying the food I don't wanna go outside. I am good that day that stuff bad Taste in my mouth for sure.

Yelp
Anyone who's been in Florida for a while knows we're kind of lacking in the barbecue department. However, I found myself pretty okay with the meal I had at Shorty's. At least by Florida standards, I certainly wasn't mad at it. The baby back ribs were decently tender, although there was a little too much fat in a few spots near the end. I thought the sauce was nice, more Kansas City style. I wish they'd had a smokey char on the outside, but I would be willing to order these again. As for the sides, the cornbread was decent, sweet enough and not too dry. The fries and garlic toast were fine, but the coleslaw was really bland. We tried the key lime pie after seeing a few people praise it online, but it was nowhere near tart enough in my opinion. While the interior was a little kitschy, the food came out quick, and it's really convenient that they're open a little later (10 PM), unlike a lot of places in the area. In truth, I feel like this is more of a 3.5 star, but given the shortage we've got down here, I'll bump it to 4. I'd be willing to give them another try and sample some of their other menu options.

Yelp
The original Shorty's opened in South Miami way back in 1951. In addition to the South Miami Shorty's there is a restaurant in West Miami and this one in Davie which opened in 1988. They also do a lot of catering. I remembered them fondly from my time living in Davie in the early 90's. I was in the area and decided to have a little Oscar's party and I ordered a family pack so I didn't have to cook dinner. I phoned in my order a half hour before I wanted it and was easily able to pick it up outside at the walk up window. I appreciate how fast and convenient it is to get your food here and get back on your way. If you want to dine in, the inside is very rustic with wood tables and all kinds of western decorations that goes well with the Davie theme. For the meal I chose the family baby back platter for two ($52.99) and it was a lot of food. I paid an extra dollar for white meat chicken. You get a aluminum tray filled with beef, chicken, pork, and ribs along with a box filled with fries and four pieces of Texas toast. Rounding out the meal was corn on the cob, beans, coleslaw, and BBQ sauce. The meat was really tender and flavor and there was enough for leftovers. I enjoyed it with their sauce, coleslaw, fries, and toast. We ended up tossing the beans because they had no taste and the corn was really awful as well. It was minor quibble and if I bought a family platter again I would probably just make my own corn and grab some beans from the Publix deli. Shorty's BBQ is a Davie landmark on the northwest corner of University Drive and Stirling Road. This place holds a lot of nostalgia for me and it says a lot for them to have stayed in business as long as they have. They area is starting to change with more development but I hope they stay the same old fashioned, locally loved BBQ joint they have always been.

Yelp
Thursday night, 8pm. Hungry. We started with an order of onion rings. To my surprise, they were made right. The key to proper onion rings is that they are large rings with just the amount of seasoned breading, gently fried. The end caps or tiny pieces would be used for house made BBQ sauce if the chef knows what he's doing and this guy does. I had the brisket sandwich which came with fries and my friend had the baby back ribs and chicken combo. First the fries that came with the sandwich and my friend's combo were generic, fancy cut frozen fries, but they were generally fried well and honestly can't have too much of it as it's just too filling. The brisket on the sandwich was generally pretty lean which I didn't mind - it would be awesome if pickles were provided. The ribs - moist. Chicken - moist and that's rare for something grilled. No sandbagging here! Service was slightly slow for the night, but the quality, fair value, and ambiance made up for the experience. Only few odd things that happened was providing a sauce that was stored in a parmesan cheese shaker (real messy trying to pour that onto food). Instead of a standard wet nap, a small cup of warm water was provided to wash your hands with the roll of paper towel already on the table.

Yelp
I've been going to this Shorty's for decades and it's usually pretty good but today I had a negative experience. I placed an order (outside). I told the person at the window I wanted a side chicken breast and a 2nd sweet potato. Since I was using my $20 piggy bank rewards I told him I would pay the difference. When I picked up the order I asked if I owed money and he said no. When I got home the extra chicken breast was missing so I called. The guy who took the order said he misunderstood and thought I didn't want the chicken. I was very clear but figured not that big a deal and next time, they could add it to my order. He said he couldn't. I asked for the manager and explained that my order was not filled correctly. He said I didn't pay for the chicken. That is not MY mistake. I clearly said I wanted the chicken and would pay any additional cost. The appropriate thing would have been for him to apologize which he did not and he also said he wouldn't credit me and no point in further discussing. It's not about the money! The attitude was terrible. The rest of the order was okay except the chicken was VERY dry plus I was told there would be fries and there were none. The coleslaw (which should be cold,) was underneath the hot chicken and sweet potatoes. The mistake by the order taker was unintentional but the to go manager made an intentional choice to show no respect for a customer. When you take an order incorrectly and someone is inconvenienced (not enough food) a good manager would make it right. Overall, Shorty's left a bad taste in my mouth...not because of the actual taste....but because of the poor customer service! There are other bbq places nearby with better food and service!

Yelp
I had a great experience here! The food was delicious I ordered the brisket chop sandwich, and it was full of flavor and super tender. I also tried the bacon and cheese fries, and they were the perfect combination of crispy, cheesy, and smoky. My boyfriend got the meat meal, and it came with a generous portion of everything, definitely a good amount of food for the price. Overall, everything was fresh, well-seasoned, and served hot. Great BBQ and very reasonable prices. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
My family and I grabbed dinner at Shorty's and it was wonderful. The food was great. Our waitress, Natalie was very professional and super sweet! Will definitely return.

Yelp
Had not been here in years and oh boy good service but terrible BBQ. Came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch with the family since I was in the mood for BBQ and left disappointed. The service of both the hostess and our server was attentive and friendly. I had the chicken and ribs combo which was about $22 and it was terrible. The chicken was so tiny it looked like a pigeon and had absolutely no taste at all and the 3 ribs on the plate were also bland and needed meat on them for the price paid, The plate itself was very small and not worth the price. My daughter had the wings and said they were pretty good and had some flavor on them. The boys had the Chicken tenders and the cheeseburger which were pretty basic. and so was the little ones' cheeseburger. The ambiance it was of a western feel. I would definitely would not return.
google avatar

Jayne E.

Yelp
Food was horrendous, I got the burnt ends! Soggy, fatty and throw up in your mouth gross. Service, she didn't much care and the ambiance was saying "run"!
google avatar

Greg T.

Yelp
I went in for lunch with a group. I saw that they had Burnt Ends as an appetizer and had to give them a try. I was not disappointed they were excellent.

Gina D.

Yelp
My son got food delivered from here for my birthday . Two of the three meals were disgusting!! The "pulled" pork was sliced , grey meat! The BBQ sauce terrible ! My husband ordered a cheeseburger , the menu said it was the best burger in town. It basically was a cheeseburger and a bun. No lettuce , tomato , onion like the menu said. My son ordered the ribs and Mac & Cheese. Kraft Mac & Cheese would have been better ! The ribs were good. The fries the best thing going. Haven't eaten their food in years . Done ! Will never order again .

Yelp
It's decent but nothing spectacular. I'm a native Floridian, so I'm an old Sonny's BBQ person. I like tender, slow, low. Well the meals we had were good just for lunch. Pulled pork was good. Beans, fries. We would back. It's old school, picnic style. Jeans, shorts vibe. Good service. Sweet tea was weak, not strong. Go for decent but not 'slap ya mama' food. Nice lunch! Left overs heated up ok. For $50 3 people could eat well. Now the sauce is just blah! They should switch to Baby Ray, a better jar sauce. Then the brought some homemade vingear based sauce. Horrible lol. My mom from GA, it's an old fashion way to make sauce, I had it at mom's, hated it then lol. I like a thick, rich brown or yellow gold sauce! Whats better and near but more $: I like MISSION even though it's a chain, its better and consistent and maybe $2 more for everything. They have great corn casserole, good deserts, tender meats but it's easily $50 for 2. Bring back Sonny's! Go enjoy, it's a nice quick lunch that won't make you cry or break the bank!

Yelp
Great service, terrible Bbq. Came in on a Sunday afternoon for a family lunch and left disappointed. I haven't been in this location in YEARS , but we wanted bbq so we went for it. The service was great both the hostess and our server were attentive and friendly. We had the chicken and ribs combo which was about $22 was terrible. Chicken was so tiny and had absolutely no seasoning at all and the ribs were also bland. The plate itself was very small and not worth the price. The wings were pretty good and some flavor to it. Chicken tenders were pretty basic and so was the little ones cheeseburger. Overall I wouldn't be back.

Yelp
I've been eating here over 50 years and they're always consistent with their quality and taste of the food and service is always polite and timely.
google avatar

Janell M.

Yelp
The one word to use for Shorty's is consistent. Always good flavor, quick and good service. Today we ordered the Baby back rib platter and the pulled pork platter. Both came with fries, garlic bread and Cole slaw. We also ordered a side of BBQ beans. The ribs were fall off the bone and the pulled pork was delicious! The beans were fair, not a huge punch of flavor. The beer selection was minimal. Overall the food and service were great!

Fredericka S.

Yelp
Taste of food, you can tell it wasn't fresh Needs ambience Better service especially compared to other Shorty's Not worth the money

Robert M.

Yelp
Consistent quality for 50 years. Great, friendly service I appreciate their specials and promotions
google avatar

Marqus R.

Yelp
I didn't go to Shorty's BBQ, I only ordered a home delivery of Shorty's baby back ribs along with some of their cole slaw and BBQ beans. To order for delivery there is a .99 cent charge plus a delivery fee. My order arrived quickly and exactly as ordered. The baby back ribs were delicious; perfectly done and super tasty as also were the bean and cole slaw.

Yelp
After debating on where to eat we came across Shortys BBQ. When arriving the hostess was very welcoming and led us to our table. The decor was cute as there were little clay figurines and taxidermy animals on the walls. Very Texan BBQ-esque. We had the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer, they were good and the cheese pill was perfect. Nothing out of this world but definitely hit the spot. Once the entree arrived I had the half rack baby back ribs with fries. The entree includes a garlic toast and coleslaw as well. When the meal arrives they bring a house made BBQ sauce served warm, it's made of a vinegar base. Personally wasn't the best but the sweet and tangy sauce they have on the table in the squirt bottle was soooo good. Overall the food was good, good portions for the price and the staff was very accommodating.

Victor C.

Yelp
They need to improve in everything. The food is terrible and the manager is even worse. Should not call themselves a bbq place.

Jackie T.

Yelp
We had a company picnic sponsored by Rick Case Hyundai on Weston Road at Vista View Park Shorty's BBQ catered our event The food was fantastic so good the BBQ Chicken was flavorful and moist and cooked to professional the Ribs were to die for so good and BBQ was awesome We also had baked beans and corn on the cob and dinner rolls They supplied plenty of napkins and set ups and tangy BBQ sauce and regular BBQ sauce set it all up with the hot burner bins and racks What a feast it was Shorty's is the Number 1 pick if you are planning on catering an event You will get rave compliments Go for it

Manuel E.

Yelp
We visited this premises for my son's birthday since he wanted barbecue we ordered several plates. The food was good. The waiter was nice and fast. The restaurant was in great conditions not that many people will come again.

Yelp
Always great, BBQ, fried green tomatoes, okra, onion rings and slaw spot on!! great friendly staff and cute decor

Yelp
My nostalgia for Sonny's BBQ, and a pretty good visit to Shorty's in Miami years ago, led me here. It serves for the nostalgia fix, as they do have jumbo beef or pork sandwiches that you can get on garlic bread, along with crinkle cut fries. Aside from the nostalgia, the quality didn't quite measure up to Sonny's or the other Shorty's. The place does have a cool western decor, along with some of the friendliest staff and that makes up for a lot. The Brunswick stew, fries, and garlic bread were all very good. The sliced beef was good, but didn't leave me wanting to rush back. The reviews and pictures of the Cole slaw on Yelp had me anticipating trying it, but it fell flat on flavor and creaminess. Just for the service, and very reasonable prices, I will be back. I want to try the fried green tomatoes, along with the pulled pork and baby back ribs. Seems like they are some of the most popular items.
google avatar

M D.

Yelp
It was pretty good. I got the BBQ pulled pork which was a great big portion and garlic toast was good. The fries were cold and the pork was very stringy, needs to be finer (prefer Scrubbys pulled pork, much finer and smaller pieces). The bathroom while pretty clean had a faucet that belonged in a Circle K (yes I said Circle K because a Wawa or Racetrack is too generous). And the toilet seat was about 10 years past it's due date. Come on, go to Home Depot grab a $40 faucet and a $15 seat how hard is it?? Again not bad but compared to Mission BBQ it's not in the same league.
google avatar

Yelp
It's been years since I've had Shorty's so I wanted to come back and give it another try. We stopped by for lunch soon after it opened. We were seated immediately by very friendly staff. I ordered a sweet tea and pulled pork sandwich, which came with fries and coleslaw. They also brought a house made bbq sauce out with the meal, which is served warm. I did not prefer it, but loved the sweet sauce that was already bottled on the table. The portions were huge, but I did expect a larger lunch menu than the 4 items listed (pulled pork was not on the lunch menu). Our waitress also gave me a to-go cup for my sweet tea, which is the best part of bbq spots.
google avatar

Paul H.

Yelp
Shortys is my go to ribs place. I haven't been there in a long time so i decided to try it for lunch. The spare ribs were made to perfection. Fall off the bone and juicy. I love their homemade bbq sauce too. Comes with a side of delicious coleslaw and potato or fries. I had the baked potato. Great ambience with the western motif. But I was caught by surprise that they cut down on their lunch special. In the past they would serve a half rack of ribs but now they give less. So instead of 5 stars I give them a 4 stars. Next time I will just order a half rack.
google avatar

Veronica V.

Yelp
Shortys has been around Miami for over 20 years ! Indoor the restaurant is decorated very southern with wood picnic tables . I ordered the corn on the cob as an appetizer and ribs platter as my meal . Very good!
google avatar

Jenn C.

Yelp
Food was great, service was even better ! We went when they first opened and was greeted immediately by host and sat, server was very attentive and food was out quickly. Hot and tasty

Michelle R.

Yelp
We have gone here for over 25 years. Recently it seems there was a change in ownership because the food is delicious! We have always been happy with the service and that remains. The ambiance is very cohesive with the food, I only wish the lights would turn up so it isn't so dark inside. Definitely recommend.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
They say Florida is the only state that the further north you go the more Southern you get. Well I used to follow up a river bank and Land in Alabama on memorial Day I wanted some barbecue!! The food was delicious!!! huge portions!! I spent $20 I had a giant pulled pork sandwich fries coleslaw and I even have fried Green tomatoes as an appetizer! My server was working so hard she was amazing she knew everything I needed before I needed it. Her name is Kim y'all goil on in and ask for her! The only downside of my experience was the hostess she needs to be trained how to talk to the staff members.

Patricia H.

Yelp
I joined the most recent in a long line of reward programs (with rewards that don;t transfer to the new one) because it gave me $10 towards my order. I was surprised when the email popped up immediately. However when I went to place my order online the next day, the reward was visible but locked. I called and was told it was a glitch, and if i paid full price for the order today, It "might" unlock tomorrow. As I did not see anything about a prior purchase, just immediate reward, I felt that this was deceptive and chose to go elsewhere.

Yelp
I went there for my first time today and I thought I'd give it a try. I regret not driving the extra 10 minutes to get to MISSION BBQ instead. MISSION IS WAY BETTER! SHORTYS BBQ I paid $44.00 and got 2 plates with PAPER THIN BRISKET. And the grilled chicken pieces were tiny!!! Save your money and go to MISSION BBQ
google avatar

Vietnam V.

Yelp
Ordered from the take out window about $30.00 worth of food after our day at the beach. Well, ordering at take out we got what they had left, since we would only discover the terrible food they packed for us. The meat was completely dry had had no taste, the French fries were limp, cold, the beans were cold, the meal was a waste of $$. Lesson learned do not order from the takeout window, apparently you get what eat in customers rejected.

Robyn M.

Yelp
We haven't been to Shortys in years and we decided to order takeout yesterday. We had the brisket platter and pulled pork platter. Both we dried out and very chewy. Very disappointing meals. We won't be going back again sorry to say.
google avatar

Mary Ann C.

Yelp
This was my son's favorite BBQ place growing up. Every birthday we took him here. Today in stopped in for lunch. Service was prompt and they made sure that we were taken care of. The Jumbo beef sandwich was huge! Shaved slices is BBQ beef between a fresh bun with French fries and chills slaw. The Jumbo pork was even more tender than the beef. I finished all of the cole slaw first, had a few fries and went to town on the sandwich. I was only able to eat half. You won't leave here hungry. Next time I've got to have their ribs. That's what we always enjoyed when at Shorty's.
google avatar

Delilah B.

Yelp
My first time at here, I loved chicken and brisket combo, the server was great, I loved the dining room there was so much to look at. Lots of conversation pieces.
google avatar

Javier M.

Yelp
Worst brisket in Florida. Looked like it was boiled in water or baked in oven. Zero bark, no smoke ring, nothing. I could have taken my sandal off and chewed on that and it would have been better and more tender. Absolutely terrible meal and probably will never return. Save yourself the mistake I made and go somewhere else.
google avatar

Doug R.

Yelp
We have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed in the food or service. 05/25/2020 ,today we ordered the Family for 8 meal to go and it was tons of food, we even had leftovers for the next day . The chicken was moist and so flavorful and the baby back ribs fell off the bone and the rest of the food was so good . We also ordered 2 sides of their onion rings which are so so good . If you haven't eaten here you gotta try at least once .
google avatar

Vicente D.

Yelp
I had not been to shortys, I had heard of it. So I decided to give it a shot. Loved the ribs so much I wanna go back asap lol. The service was amazing ( Dania ) helped us, she was friendly, ready every time, ( drinks were full) she was super nice! Anyhow I loved the place and will be bringing more people over. We had the full baby back ribs and mix of spare ribs and baby back ribs.

margaret p.

Yelp
Excellent service, food right on...always excellent!...thank you! Ambiance is southern style!
google avatar

Daniel F.

Yelp
We got chicken, pulled pork, brisket, and a rack of ribs. All were tasty and well cooked, and the warm sauces served with the meals made them even better. Fresh coleslaw, garlic bread, fries, and the macaroni and cheese...uff...not enough space for the homemade key lime pie... next time.

Yelp
We have been going to Shorty's in Davie for decades. There are other BBQ restaurants in this community that have better food but this is convenient for dining and take-out. The food is generally good (not great) and the staff is friendly and attentive. The ribs are usually delicious and tender and the other entrees, including chicken, burgers and brisket are also decent. The sides are typical of bbq restaurants and pretty standard although the onion rings are a cut above and the coleslaw is particularly good. On this occasion, I ordered the chicken breast plate and while the flavor was good, the chicken breasts were very thin and dry. I ate the fries and had only a few pieces of chicken since it wasn't very good. I didn't mention it to the server, Kim, or I'm sure she would have been happy to exchange the dish. She was pleasant and attentive and and clearly wanted to provide a good dining experience. To sum it up, the food at Shorty's is generally average to good and the service is typically excellent. I'm glad this Shorty's is still around.
